When your air conditioner breaks down, you’ll want to get it fixed as quickly as possible. But what’s the best way to get it fixed? Well, first you need to know how it works.
How Does an Air Conditioner Work?
There are two main parts to an air conditioner unit. There’s the condenser and the evaporator. The condenser is located outside the home while the evaporator coil is secured in the main duct junction. The air conditioner is connected to the home’s air distribution system. This then pumps the warm or cool air into the home and circulates it. Modern air conditioners are much better at circulating air than older ones though.
Hot air is lighter than cool air, so it will rise to the top of the room quicker. This is why air is often blown in at floor level to make sure that the whole room is exposed to the warm air. This is less of a problem when cool air is being blown into the home during the summer months because it doesn’t rise in the same way.
Using an Expert
Air conditioners are often sealed, making it pretty difficult to gain access to them. This is one of the reasons why it’s such a good idea to use the services of an expert who knows what they’re doing. Your heating and cooling system is a very complicated piece of equipment, so you could make its problem even worse if you start fiddling with it. Many people do this, and they end up having to pay for expensive repairs later on.
One of the most common problems that people face when they have a problem with their air conditioner is that it seems to be working, but the house doesn’t cool down. This normally means that there’s a fault in the air distribution system. To get to the bottom of why the system is failing to distribute the air as it should can take a lot of skills and expertise though. So take the safe option and use a professional service.
Doing it Yourself
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t do things to make sure that your air conditioner is in good condition. Plus, if you have an in-depth knowledge of air conditioning units, it might be possible to carry out your own repairs. But the main thing you should be focused on is making sure that your unit is kept clean, efficient and safe. This can be done through regular maintenance checks and cleaning procedures.
To clean the evaporator, you’ll need to, first of all, remove the insulation. Then clean the underside of it with a brush and remove any debris. You should then clean the tray underneath the evaporator that carries condensation away from the unit. Finally, put everything back as it was when you came to it. You can do the same to the condenser, but you’ll have to pay more attention to removing accumulated dirt from the fins. The coolant lines that connect the evaporator to the condenser should be inspected regularly and insulated too.
