If you are anything like most people in this country, then the arrival of spring and summer weather also heralds the return to the barbecue, a staple of the American diet. In fact, this period also becomes home to many different BBQ festivals. These festivals, or competitions, are not for the faint of heart. By the way, check out the average calories for BBQ meals here to see just how much you will eat: https://www.popsugar.com/fitness/Calories-Barbecue-Foods-Hot-Dogs-Burgers-Chicken-3172594. Expect to eat thousands of calories, but also to have your taste buds pleasured all day long.

If you have never been to such a festival, you may not know that they usually have a ‘People’s Choice’ element to them as well. What this means is that, on showing your ticket, you will be able to taste lots of different dishes and recipes, made on a variety of barbecues and smokers. Speaking of smokers, you will probably come across a good few dishes cooked on the Bradley 4 Rack Digital Smoker, one of the top performing smokers this year. You can read the full review here: https://electricsmokercenter.com/bradley-4-rack-digital-smoker-review/. Once you get to know this smoker, you will probably look forward to trying one yourself!

There is just one problem with these events, and it is a logical problem. What happens when you put great food, hundreds of people, low prices, and beautiful weather together? You get queues, endless lines, and people becoming more and more stressed. In fact, as you can read here, http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/opinion/sunday/why-waiting-in-line-is-torture.html, there are reasons why this always happens. Luckily, however, some proper preparation and planning will make sure that you have a fantastic time.

3 Top Tips for a Perfect BBQ Festival

  1. Arrive early enough to avoid the lines. Seems obvious, but you would be surprised at how many people forget this. Make sure you plan your trip and set off as early as possible. Be there about 15 minutes before the gates open as you can. This means you won’t have to stand in line too long for your tickets, or for your food. The added benefit is that all the food is freshly cooked as well.
  2. The deal of the day may seem tempting, but that’s what everybody else thinks as well. Sure, you might be able to get some very special food at a really special price, but this is where everybody is going. It is common for event organizers to combine admission tickets with the deal of the day tickets, which means you may feel like you’re getting excellent value for money. But try putting a price on your time, because you will waste plenty of it standing in that line with everybody else. And remember that the deal of the day may not be the best food of the day.
  3. Don’t forget that you will get samplers, not a full meal. If you have a barbecue at home, you will probably have a large plate with four or five different types of meat, corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and lots of other things. Not so if you want to take part in the People’s Choice vote. All you will get is small bites – sliders, rather than burgers (here is an explanation of what sliders are http://aht.seriouseats.com/archives/2005/06/oi-yank-whats-a.html, for the uninitiated). Consider, therefore, not participating in the People’s Choice at all, but merely picking a stall and having a huge meal instead.

There you have it, three key tips to have a great time at a BBQ festival. There is an alternative, however, which is to have a family barbecue by following these tips instead: http://coriscozycorner.com/summer-is-coming-heres-how-to-have-the-perfect-family-bbq/. No lines, no small plates, just good old-fashioned fun with your family.

Either way, enjoy the food!

The World of Tomorrow: What the Future Holds For Our Children

The world is living in pretty uncertain times in 2017. The political landscape is a bit of a minefield (to say the least), there’s ever louder alarm bells ringing about the state of climate change, and nobody can be quite too sure which celebrity might be the next to make his or her way onto the afterlife. That being said, scientists do actually know a fair amount of what the future will hold. While this might not affect the people in society who are currently in the prime of their life, it will be the future that is left for future generations. What do they have to look forward to?

Internet of Things

The internet of things is already upon the world, though nowhere near the extent that it one day will be. Put simply, the internet of things is the interconnection between everyday items, such as, say, a refrigerator. While some newer items already have the capacity to send and receive data, home automation experts believe that it could soon transform domestic life. It’ll mean a homeowner will be able to control things like their lights, energy, and more via an online portal or app. For children who grow up in this environment, the possibility for higher productivity and greater security is limitless.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence will one day have an even bigger impact on the world than the internet, smartphones, and cars combined. It will revolutionise society, allowing humans to do more than ever before. In fact, it’s possible that further down the line humans will be integrated with AI, which will bring also superhuman capabilities. In the next decades, it’s also likely that AI will be able to integrated with a human mind, allowing that mind to live on forever. The other artificial thing that will transform society are artificial organs; soon, patients will be able have an organ that is grown in a lab inserted into their body.

Traditional Models Broken Down

The ever increasing amount of innovative ideas will bring on revolutionary ideas the likes of which have never been seen before. It’ll mean the collapse of old institutions; for example, media, which is already facing difficulties, may soon become a bit player on the world stage, with people instead getting their information and entertainment from completely new sources. Gender equality will also be greatly improved throughout the world, which will result in many more positions of power being occupied by women.

Renewable Energy

There are plans being set in motion that will have long lasting impacts on how human consume their energy. It is estimated that by 2050, practically all of our energy will come from renewable sources, making the world a healthier place in the process. This will make air pollution – which is having a massive effect on cities around the world – less of a concern, but it’s also likely that this shift in policy will have been to reaction to the negative effects of climate change, which could affect millions of people in the coming decades.

Beginning Your Mompreneurial Adventure

Starting your adventure as a mompreneur could be the first day of the rest of your life. But if you want to have success and make your fortune you need to plan. These are some of the points you’ll need to think about when beginning your mompreneurial adventure.

student-849819_960_720Photo

Decide What You Want to Do

Clarity and vision are the keys to a successful transition into the business world. You need to make sure you’ve decided what you want to do. This is one of the biggest mistakes business owners make. They don’t have their niche, and they aren’t settled on what they want to achieve as entrepreneurs. Before you part with any money, or commit to anything, you need to be certain you know what you want to do. This makes it easier to achieve your goals and ensure your business is heading in the right direction.

Make Sure You Have a Nest Egg

Many mompreneurs decide they want to run their own business on a whim. The problem with this is that they soon run out of money because they overlook the importance of costing. To start out, you need to try to make sure you have a nest egg before you go about launching a brand. It’s important to have money to support the company and any changes you need to make. But, you also need to have money to live on while the business is still taking off. That’s why you have to make sure you have plenty of money saved up wherever you can. This is an important part of preparing for life as a mompreneur.

Choose Your HQ

If you’re serious about building a brand as a mompreneur, then you need to make sure you choose your business HQ. This is one of the most important elements because it ensures you have a base of operations. These days convenience and efficiency are so important in the business world. And that’s why you need to make sure you go with options from Level Office. These are ready made and furnished offices for rent. They have all the amenities you could possibly need, and they are a much more convenient option than simply renting a space. You need to think about ways to boost your business operations, and this is a good way to do that.

327260700_ae77aa16cb_bFlickr.com

Avoid Basic Mistakes

It’s crucial that you make sure you avoid all the basic mistakes. There are a lot of deadly mistakes that mompreneurs will make in business. A lot of this is down to naivety, so you need to make sure you understand what you’re doing. Some of the most fatal errors come from being underprepared. You need to understand what it entails when you run a business. And then you need to make plans accordingly to deal with it. Make sure you outsource so you don’t become overwhelmed. You also need to make sure you’re not too carefree with money, and that you market yourself properly.

Branching out alone to become a mompreneur is never easy. So you need to make sure you plan and prepare as much as possible. The last thing you want is to be unprepared and see your business flop. The start of tour adventure as a mompreneur should be exciting and fulfilling. And, in order to ensure this, you need to know what to expect.

Christmas might seem like it’s still far away, but it’s less than two months until the big day. But then you factor in the last time you’re going to see some of your friends and colleagues before the holidays. We really don’t have that much time to get ready. I’m still busy celebrating birthdays this month and next. But I’m trying to get ready for Christmas at the same time. I try to be as prepared as I can so I’m not panicking at the last minute. I’m not the sort of person to do a last-minute Christmas Eve shop! But even the most prepared person can feel stuck for ideas. You might feel like you’ve done everything interesting in previous years. If you’re getting yourself in a flap, here are my tips for what to do when you’ve run out of ideas.

Make a List

I love a good list! If you ever need to get organised and inspired, writing things down always helps. When it’s time for me to do my Christmas shopping, I make a list of everyone I need to buy for. Then I separate them into…well, what I’m willing to spend on them really! Close friends and family get something special every year. But colleagues and barely-more-than-acquaintances aren’t so lucky. I still think it’s nice to get them something. But I’m not buying them all designer handbags or West End tickets! This list helps me to get sorted so I don’t feel overwhelmed by what I need to do.

Look in New Places

You might have a few go-to gift shops that you use every Christmas. I know I’m guilty of returning to the same places. But that’s because they usually have just what I’m looking for. But if you feel like you’ll only end up buying the same things as previous years, it’s time to go elsewhere. There are tonnes of shops that sell unique gifts, both online and offline. You could find useful gadgets or entirely useless but funny items. Ask for recommendations from friends and family too because they could have some excellent ideas for where to shop.

Make Something

This one’s for anyone who enjoys doing any sort of craft, or even likes cooking or baking. Some of the best presents I have ever received have been handmade because I know a lot of love and time has gone into them. If you have any crafty skills, you can put them to use to give someone an awesome gift. Make some candles, some Christmas decorations, or some cute notebooks. If you like cooking or baking, you could make put together some jars of preserves or bake some cakes or biscuits. If you’re worried they won’t last long, you can choose something like a Christmas cake or parkin that you can leave in the tin for ages.

Don’t worry if you’re running out of gift ideas – it happens to the best of us! I’m going to start making my list now, so I’ve got plenty of time to do all my shopping.

the town time forgotLooking for a good book to curl up with?  Check out the fascinating tale The Town Time Forgot.  It begins in New York City when a U.S. marshal, Devon McKenzie, and NYC Detective Chris Gates end up transporting a well-known prisoner along the interstate. The two officers have never gotten along and are squabbling when their prisoner is forcefully removed from them en route during a time when the Aurora Borealis is at its brightest. The van they are driving is wrecked and the officers are injured. They spend the next three days surviving in an isolated wilderness area. When they come upon a farmer, he takes them back to his house, where they are shocked to find that they have been transported back in time to 1869 Nebraska. The farmer and his family wrongly assume the two are married, so Devon and Chris play along until they can figure out what happened and how they can get home. Over the next three months, they learn to rely and trust each other. The two become close and fall in love. During the supposedly safer “good old days,” the two suffer violence at the hands of a lawless society. Devon and Chris adjust to an era when corruption dictates the law. They must play the game or suffer. Will they make it as a couple? And more importantly, will they ever make it back to their own time?

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Invitation

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

The wedding invitation is the first glimpse into your wedding day. You want it to be the embodiment of what your big day is all about. With this in mind, choosing the right invitation can strike fear into the hearts of many betrothed couples. With such a vast choice available, it can be a complicated process. After all, you want it to be nothing short of perfect. Your invitations are a key part of your big day. Without them, people won’t be in attendance.

Stop. Relax. Stop panicking. You can find the perfect invitation that leaves a lasting impression on all of your guests. What’s more, it can fit the tone and style of your wedding easily.

Theme

Choosing the theme of your invite, should be a reflection of what your day is all about. Are you having a vintage affair with tea and bunting? Are you going for a glamorous princess inspired theme? Whatever your theme is, your invites should be a reflection of this. Incorporate the flowers that you have chosen for your bouquet into your invitation. This is a sure fire way of ensuring that people are aware of what they should wear to your event. After all, if you are going for bohemian chic, your guests may feel out of place in a tailored suit. The theme of your invite should reflect the theme and colors of your big day.

4791924256_92b0893703_oCreative Commons

Budget

Money matters, when it comes to organizing any aspect of the wedding day. You need to have the perfect theme in place. But, you also need to ensure that you are not blowing the budget with 3D cutouts and tissue lined invitations. Think about the amount of invites that you need. Cost up how much all of these will be overall. You also need to consider save the dates and thank you cards in a matching theme too. It may be best to go for a simpler, flat style invite if your budget does not allow for something fancier. But, invites on a budget don’t have to look dull. In fact, there are some great styles that you can choose from.

Design

There are many designs of wedding invite. Paper Themes have said that the most popular is the flat, postcard style invitation. You can opt for a folding, brochure style of invite. Pocket fold invitations are hugely popular too. Pocket fold style invites are great for couples who have a lot of information for their guests. Including menus, hotel details and so forth is made easier with this style. If you have a set menu and all your friends live in the local vicinity, opting for a classic invitation may be best. A two-fold invitation that’s tied together with a ribbon is nothing short of adorable.

Vendor

Choosing the perfect vendor can be tough. But, there are a plethora of online retailers. Seek out samples of what you like. These may be charged at a nominal fee. Get a feel for the vendor by ordering samples and checking out Google reviews.

o    Entertainer – Gifts for the Dad who aspires to set up the ultimate man cave complete with gaming, sports, movies, listing to music, or just hanging out. This Dad loves to share so it also has everything at the ready for entertaining a crowd.

o    Gizmo Guru: Gifts for the dad that always wants to take his tech to the next level with the latest and greatest – always connected, at home and on the go.

o    Fitness Fanatic: Dad who doesn’t let age slow him down.  He has no fear and loves adventure, but aspires to be/keep healthy as well. Dad uses technology in a wide range of ways in his active life both for himself and the family for instance; Go Pro and Fit Bit to track activity and recording adventures, to portable batteries for on the go fitness, camping while listening to music / watching movies on the smartphone

o    Memory Maker: For the Dad that makes sure that not only all the memories are captured and stored (video/photo) but keeps the family organized and under control. Gifts for him make his life easer; Dad pays the bills with laptop, videos kids, back up storage for pictures, prints out schedules for baseball practices and games, etc.

breville ovenMy father would fall under The Entertainer category.  My parents got divorced about 15 years ago and since then my father has learned to cook and enjoys entertaining.  He’s a little Martha Stewart and a little Emeril (BAM!).  I think he would love the Breville Smart Oven.  It is a great little oven that features Element IQ technology that suggests the ideal cooking temperature and time for each of the 9 menu functions.  It fits a 13″ pizza for easy baking and my father would be able to cook so many different things without heating up his whole house with his regular oven.  Plus I love that the rack automatically ejects halfway out of the oven for the safe removal of hot items.  It also includes a 13″ non-stick pizza pan, 12″ x 12″ enamel baking pan and 12″ x 12″ enamel broil rack for added convenience.

morphieI think my husband is more of a Gizmo Guru so a great gift for him would be the mophie juicepack powerstation XL so he can charge all of his devices on the go.  With a 12,000 mAh capacity and dual micro USB ports, the mophie Juice Pack Powerstation XL 40805BBR charger provides efficient, reliable power to simultaneously charge up to 2 compatible devices. The compact design makes it totally portability and easy to use for any techie on the go.
