Scotties has launched their fourth annual TREES ROCK! Contest. This is a contest that encourages kids to share why they think trees rock. Individuals or groups of kids in grades 3 through 8 can submit a video or essay about the importance of trees. Cool, right? A national vote will determine the winner! That individual will receive $10,000 for their school to use towards a sustainable project! And as if that wasn’t enough, there are $7,000 worth of prizes set aside for finalists too. Score!

Sofie

This is a great way to get kids excited about the environment and doing something sustainable in their community! Wouldn’t this be a great addition to your school and community? And a great accomplishment for school age children. Be sure to get your entries in by November 14, 2014 for the video contest or February 6th, 2015 for the essay contest!  For more information about their annual TREES ROCK! Contest go here or click on the images below.

Disclosure- I received one or more of the product mentioned below in exchange for my post.  All opinions are 100% my own.
animalz animalz pictureCute, lovable and lightweight enough to take anywhere, Animalz by ReTrak headphones are a fun, furry accessory for holiday road trips, airplane rides and casual listening.  Designed for little ears with volume-limiting technology (MY FAVORITE FEATURE TO KEEP LITTLE EARS PROTECTED!) and a retractable cord for tangle-free travel and storage, Animalz are available in six fun fabric animal designs.

Animalz HeadphonesIn addition to being fashion-forward enough for the ladies and cool enough for the gents, parents will be pleased to know that Animalz’ volume limiter sets the maximum volume at 85 decibels – recommended for protecting developing ears.

We picked Biker Bearz and Jam Bunneez and they are SOOOOO adorable!  My girls love them so much.  They’ve been using them in the car to watch movies, using them with their computers so they won’t bother each other, and with my cellphone to listen to music and play games.  My girls said they are very comfortable and they enjoy using them.  Plus it’s like having a plush friend with you wherever you go!  These adorable headphone would make a great gift or stocking stuffer!

Look how cute they’d be peaking out of a stocking:headphones stockingsWatch this video to see how much fun kids have wearing them while enjoying their favorite tunes, shows or learning activities:

Family road trips, casual listening and airplane rides will never be the same. Say goodbye to long, boring hours and squabbles in the backseat and say hello to Animalz headphones for kids!  Whether at home or on-the-go, Animalz by ReTrak retractable headphones are designed for little ears and feature volume-limiting technology in six lovable soft fabric animal designs: Biker Bearz, DJ Panda, Jam Bunneez, Scuba Shark, Skate Monkeez  and Surf Dawgz*. Kids can now enjoy listening to their own music, playing games or watching movies all with their favorite Animalz!

Volume-Limiting Technology

According to the Journal of Pediatrics, more than 10 percent of children ages 9 to 19 have noise-induced hearing loss. Prolonged exposure to sound louder than 85 decibels can damage a child’s ears, causing permanent hearing impairment. With Animalz’s volume-limiting technology parents don’t have to worry about overexposure for developing, sensitive ears.  Animalz volume limiter sets 85 decibels as the maximum volume for optimal ear protection.

Tangle-Free Storage

Animalz headphones offer crystal-clear sound quality and are equipped with a built-in 3.2-foot retractable cable. Designed with children in mind, kids can simply retract the cord once they’re done listening. Parents no longer have to waste time unraveling knotted wires. The convenient, tangle-free headphone storage makes clean up easy.

The cord comes with a gold-plated 3.5 mm connector that is universally compatible and works with most portable devices.Manufactured with high-quality components, Animalz have a soft fuzzy headband and ear pads with a lightweight design that are comfortable to wear. Built for years of fun, Animalz are backed by a lifetime warranty!

Top Tips For Organizing A Kid’s Party

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

“Mommy, I want a birthday party.” The sound of your kids asking for a party for the first time brings sheer horror with it. Twenty other little ones running wild through your house, breaking everything and getting their sticky hands all over the furniture can send shivers down your spine. The food fights, the food allergies, the possible choking incidents, are all scenarios that put pure fear in us.

The reality for a kid’s party isn’t likely to be quite so traumatic. After all, you have raised a perfectly sensible and well-behaved child. Your little one knows right from wrong. He knows how to behave in public and how to respect other people’s homes. Chances are, other parents have been just as successful as you, so give them the benefit of the doubt. Your child will be able to pick her friends. She is undoubtedly as good a judge of character as you are, so will pick all the best kids to come.

As a mother, you are very good at calming situations down, and organizing your kids well enough to get them to places on time and eat right. Use these skills at your party. You know very well it all starts with planning, so grab some paper and a pen, and get scribbling!

A kid’s party needs to look like a kid’s party, so start with streamers and balloons from places like www.balloonsgalore.co.uk or your local party store. You can grab some customized balloons for your child, or buy one for every kid attending as a party gift. You will also need to buy party bags with little gifts as a thank you for each child. They usually contain pots of bubbles and a slice of birthday cake, plus one or two other little cracker-type toys.

Buy some cheap plastic or vinyl table cloths to cover your tables. This will prevent damage from spills and make cleaning up after food so much easier. They can be themed if you are happy to spend a little more money. You will also want to use paper plates. Pick recycled and recyclable plates and cups to reduce the impact on the environment. If you have a good stash of plastic plates and cups, these are even better.

You will also want recycled paper table napkins in abundance. These are great for emergency mop-ups, wiping sticky fingers and wrapping up pieces of cake for the guests to take home. Again, these can be themed or have pictures of favorite kids characters.

Think healthy for food. Fewer sweets and more fresh options are best, but it is a party, and kids are there to have a treat and fun. Home baked pizza, vegetarian samosas and veggie cocktail sausages, often go down a treat. Provide healthy smoothie, milk, or whole fruit juice drinks rather than squash or pop. If you are providing the entertainment yourself, popular games to play include Statues, Pass the Parcel, and Sleeping Lions. You can also try a treasure hunt game if you are ok with the kids rooting around the house or garden.

Top Toys To Get Kids Playing Outside

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

If you asked a child what their favorite things to do include, you might be disappointed to find TV, app games and watching movies are top of their list. All these gadgets to provide media have combined with our natural fears of them being out of our sight to create kids that don’t go out.

Children need to be able to play outdoors, but the world we live in just isn’t safe anymore. At least that’s what we’re told in the press. If you are like the millions of other parents who wished their kids would play out more often, then check out this list of top 5 outdoor toys:

  1. Scooter: These come in a variety of sizes, starting with four wheels or three wheels for children aged 3 and up. You can buy them branded with favorite kids’ characters. Don’t forget the safety wear! Pads, helmets and gloves are all essential to reduce injury should they take a tumble. Scooters are great fun in the yard or the play park, and provide great exercise for children. Most importantly, you get to ride it back home when you’ve dropped them off at school!
  2. Go Kart: Pedal power or battery power? The choice is yours. Battery powered ones that can be remote controlled by you is great for little tots whose legs aren’t quite long or strong enough for pedaling. They vary in price, and they’re not cheap but karts like crazy cart from razor and others are proving to be great motivators for kids to get outdoors.
  3. Swingset: When you’re worried about the possibility of bullying or pedophiles lurking at the local play park, buying a back yard swing set maybe a good idea. They are more expensive nowadays because they are safer. The structure and the paint were always causes for concern, but better regulation of standards means we can buy these things with peace of mind. From a single swing to slides, climbing frames and see-saws, these sets are great for keeping the kids outdoors and active.
  4. Trampolines: Don’t you wish these were around when we were kids? There are trampolines out there for every budget. Smaller ones with a hold-on bar are great for toddlers to learn to bounce and find their balance. Bigger trampolines take 2 or 3 kids or even the weight of an adult. These tend to be better for ages 6 and up, but with close supervision, it’s possible for smaller kids to enjoy the sensation of bouncing. Essential accessories include weather protection, safety net and a ladder. Take the net down in high wind to avoid the trampoline blowing over into the neighbor garden.outside toysImage from Flickr
  5. Soccer ball: A simple and cheap device to get your kids playing out in the yard and is great for parent-child time. Simply kicking a ball to each other burns lots of calories and greatly improves gross motor skills in kids. These balls are light enough to be bounced and thrown too, and the sphere shape is easy for smaller kids to handle.

earth to echo3Look who came to join our family.  It’s Echo from the Earth to Echo movie which is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.  I couldn’t wait for my girls to get home from school to meet our new arrival.  My girls were so excited to come home from school and open up their backpacks to see what was inside.

earth to echo4Echo joined our family and was instantly loved by all.  He is cuddly and unlike our other pets, he doesn’t leave a mess behind!
earth to echo5

My girls filled out Echo’s adoption certificate and careful read the Tips and Tricks for making Echo feel at home with us.  We took him around to see his new home.  He met our pets and quickly settled into our family.
earth to echo7earth to echo8We’ve been taking Echo all over with us.  He loves playing outside in the fresh air and especially loves meeting new people and animals.  Echo loved visiting the local Humane Society with my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and learning all about taking care of pets like cats and dogs.  First he learned the rules of the shelter like no running and using soft voices so you don’t scare the animals.  Once Echo (and the girls) learned the rules of the shelter, we all went downstairs to meet some of the adoptable animals.
earth to echo6Echo had fun checking out all the animals and the animals were certainly curious about him.  One cat even photo-bombed a picture! earth to echo9

Echo really enjoyed going to one of our favorite ice cream parlors, Jaxson’s.  I used to go there when I was a little girl and my girls love going there so we all enjoyed sharing it with Echo.
earth to echo10He enjoyed eating a little of each of our sundae’s and then had fun on the carousel.
earth to echo11 The day wasn’t complete until without taking a picture in the famous Kitchen Sink!
earth to echo12

After a long day, Echo and my girls enjoyed snuggling and falling asleep together.
