It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the fishing gear available, and you could end up bringing stuff you won’t need. If you’re new to fishing there’s no need to splurge as you’re better off with the basic stuff. Here are the four pieces of equipment you cannot do without.

Reels and Rods

You need to have the best fishing reels and rods, period.  You don’t need the most expensive, but rather those that match your experience, capability, the location and the type of fish you want to catch.

If you’re a beginner, go with a spincasting reel that is capable of handling fish up to 20 lbs. Rod length matters too, as the longer the rod the longer you’ll be able to cast. For small individuals, a 5’6” rod is ideal, while others may be more comfortable with 6’ 6” rods.

Fishing Hooks

You will need small hooks for live bait as they’re easier to work with. For crappie and panfish, you’ll want to go with hooks size 6. For large fish like catfish and bass, you’ll want size 1 hooks.

These hooks are available in different shapes, but circle is the best as they don’t get stuck in the mouth of the fish. Instead, these stick in the fish’s mouth. This makes it easy for you to remove the hook. Another advantage is the hook doesn’t need to be set as the hooking starts when you reel the fish in.

Fishing Line

Monofilament fishing lines are known for their durability. They are versatile and easier to handle compared to other types of lines. For trout, crappie, panfish and similar fish, a 6 to 8 lb. However, you will need a 10 to 12 lb. test for bigger fish like walleye, catfish, and bass. The word ‘test” by the way, refers to the durability of the line.

Baits

Baits are divided into two types, live and artificial.

There are many types of live baits you can use like shrimp, crab, small fish and other types of crustaceans. But these can be expensive for beginners. Worms are cheaper and they work great for most fish. Hotdog bits, grubs, bread, or corn are also good baits.

You can get worms in your garden or pick up some bugs and use those instead.  Put the worms in a cool container so they won’t die on the way to the fishing area. As for shrimps, crabs and the like, they don’t have to be live bait to be effective. Just make sure they’re still fresh or have been cooled, otherwise, the fish won’t come.

As for artificial lures, there are hundreds to choose from including spinners, jigs, poppers, plugs spoons, crankbaits and so on. Just pick a few and see which ones work best.

Conclusion

There you have it, the four must have items for your fishing gear. These are very easy to obtain and they’re inexpensive too. Just remember that even if you have the best gear, they’re only a means to an end as you must still be patient and choose the right fishing spot.

The joy of being a woman knows no bounds, right? The premenstrual syndrome symptoms of aching, crying uncontrollably, binge eating, and bloating make a few days of the month feel like hell on earth, but there is possible respite. While stopping your periods altogether is possible with the use of hormonal intervention, it’s easier to treat the symptoms rather than the cause. If you’re particularly familiar with the monster that is PMS, here are some great ways to get some release.

Enjoy a balanced diet

Eating well throughout the month can really help when it comes to PMS time, especially as it helps to keep blood sugar balanced, but sometimes supplementing your diet in the lead up can help too. Vitamin E supplements, a fish oil capsule, and a whole load of leafy greens are the real lifesavers, and studies have shown people who increased the presence of these nutrients in their diet saw huge improvements. It’s worth a try, anyway!

Try some gentle exercise

Don’t laugh; it really will help. While exercise might be the last thing on your mind when you’re plotting the death of everyone around you, mild exercise can truly help to relieve symptoms. A bit of a workout releases endorphins that act as pain relief, dopamine to help cheer you up, and serotonin to fight feelings of depression and anxiety. A bit of yoga or regular stretching can help to relieve tension in your lower back and abdomen which helps to fight cramps too.

Treat yourself to a massage

If there’s ever a time for a massage, it’s when your body is conspiring against you. You could go DIY and use massage oil to gently rub the top of your thighs, lower back, and abdomen. It helps to relieve cramps, gets the blood moving, and will cheer you up no end. If you feel like you need a little more TLC, book yourself in for a professional massage – you deserve it.

Get some medical help

Sometimes it’s all just a bit too much to self-medicate successfully. In these cases, a GP will discuss your options with you. One option commonly used is to help balance the body’s hormones artificially by using contraception, such as the Yasmin contraceptive pill. As PMS is caused by a conflicting inbalance in the body’s hormones in the lead up to a period, the hormonal pill can really help to put things back on the straight and narrow. Speak to your GP and see what they suggest.

Top tip: avoid caffeine

While taking mild diuretics during a period of PMS can really help lessen the bloating that tends to accompany it, it’s worth being selective about the choice of diuretic you go for. Calcium, vitamins B and C, and potassium are all great for reducing bloating. Caffeine, although a diuretic, will only contribute to feelings of anxiety, so it’s not great for helping with the other symptoms.

Premenstrual syndrome can be a really difficult time for women, but it is possible to alleviate symptoms. Just remember to go easy on yourself.

Is A Pet Right For Your Family?

For a lot of people, there’s one thing that can really make their family feel complete: a beloved family pet. A pet can provide companionship for you all as well as a playmate for your kids, not to mention an excellent way to teach them some responsibility. Of course, that doesn’t mean that every single family will be perfectly suited to having a pet. To help you figure out if getting a pet is really the right decision for you, here are a few important questions to ask yourself.

Do you have the time?

puppy-1189067_640Picture Taken From Pixabay

A pet might be a fantastic friend and companion, but it’s also a serious commitment. You’ve got to be able to make time for looking after them no matter how busy your life is. Of course, some pets are going to be more time-consuming than others so that should factor into your decision of what kind of pet is right for you. Dogs are obviously going to require more of a time commitment since they need walking and training, whereas a family cat is going to be much more independent.

Can you afford it?

It might not be the thing that you think of most often, but it’s an undeniable fact that a pet costs money. A lot of money. Between food, beds, vets bills and whatever else, they could end up racking up a pretty significant cost over time. You need to make sure that you can actually afford to keep them before making any serious commitment. Far too many people end up having to give their pets up when they realize that they are simply too expensive.

Can you handle saying goodbye?

stroke-247583_640Picture Taken From Pixabay

This is something that the vast majority of people tend to ignore when they’re first thinking about getting a pet, but it is important. Unless you decide to adopt a sea turtle, you’re pretty much guaranteed to outlive your pet. This means that there will come a time when you and your family need to say goodbye to them. Make sure that that’s something you will able be able to deal with. Losing a pet is like losing one of the family and can be a truly awful experience. Luckily, there’s a good chance that it’s a pretty long way off and there are lots of companies like Modern Memorials who can make the whole process much easier.

Do you have space for them?

Even the smallest pet is going to end up taking up space in your home. That’s not even to mention the kind of space that something like a big dog will take up! You should make sure that you’ve actually got enough space in your home so that you, your family, and your new pet can all fit in comfortably. If you have a garden, then that’s a real bonus since it gives your pet somewhere to get out and run around even when you’re at home, keeping them happy and out from under your feet.

Whether you rent or own your house, our interiors say a lot about who we are.  From the photos on our walls to the way we present our fruit in the kitchen, it all represents who we are at heart.

Telling a story throughout your home is really fun.  From the first step into your hallway through to your bathroom.  Gently clues as to what makes you happy, what makes you think, things you are passionate about and what you have done, give your guests a visual journey of who you are.  So let’s take a quick look at how you can include some conversation pieces throughout your home and show your guests who you really are.

The Hallway

hanger-1928225_640Image from Kubiwka

Ok, think of your hallway as an introduction to who you are.  How well does it represent you today?  Is it a cluttered mess or a clinical ordered zone with one purpose?  Depending on the space you have to work with, a hallway should always feel like a welcome and entice your guests in.  Keep it simple and create focal points.  If you have space for a hall unit that can be sat on, add a few touches of colours that represent you, either through textiles such as cushions or through art.  A few well placed books are a great clue about your personality.  If you love travel, popping a couple of photographic books on India or New York are little subtleties that will draw the eye.  If you have a family, the hall is a great place to hang framed photos of your loved ones.  As people take off their coats and shoes they can see how deep your connection is with your children from the offset.

The Living Room.

This is the heart of your home and should be a place for company to understand what your passions are.  Think about what you want to say.  Using famous quotes as art on the wall can help your guests see if you are humorous, serious or thoughtful.  Larger bookshelves can display a wealth of information about you.  From cookbooks to novels and reference books.  It’s your way of saying, this is what I’m about.  Even your furniture tells a story, getting creative and adding drama like these pieces PlumGoose.com/noir-furniture/ will make a strong statement about your style and tastes.

The Bedroom

Probably the most personal room in the home.  We’ve got some inspirational ideas to help you create a fantastic room where you can let your secrets unfold a little.  It’s unlikely anyone is going to enter your bedroom unless you really care about them.  Think about what your walls say about you.  You could show your naughty side through playful exotic black and white photos or show your peaceful side with flowers, candles and beautiful bed linen.  You could even show your techy side with built in sound systems or a TV bed.  Or, your chaotic side! Messy bedrooms tell a story too!

It’s the small touches, the small trinkets, the small words that give people the biggest clues about who you are.  So get thinking and make your home shout “This is me!”

Put some focus back into your skincare

Our skin can take a beating in winter, with the harsh weather drying it out or making us look pale and tired. So now more than ever would be an ideal time to put a bit of focus back on to your skincare routine. Ensuring that you are cleansing your face and getting rid of any makeup when it comes to the end of the day. It would also be a great opportunity to use a thicker moisturiser to add some much-needed moisture back into your dry and flaky skin. Doing this could instantly give your complexion a glow and make you feel better in your own skin. You might also want to consider drinking more water as this is another great way to boost the health of your skin.

Try out a new hairstyle or color

Are you bored of your current style? Have you had the same cut and color done for years? Now is the time to change things up and try something new. Perhaps changing your hair color is enough, or even opting for a shorter style. It could transform the way you look straight away and give you the confidence boost you need. If you have shorter hair why not consider adding extensions to try out a different look? There are plenty of semipermanent and permanent options to consider when ti comes to things like that and hair color.

A great smile could brighten up anyone’s day

Smiling at someone can really lift your spirits, it’s a proven fact that you can feel happier just by putting a smile on your face. So have confidence in your pretty smile and concentrate on those pearly whites. You could consider things like teeth whitening or even porcelain veneers to enhance your smile. Perhaps book in at your dentist to see what options you have when it comes to improving your teeth condition and smile.

Try applying a self-tan for a healthier glow

Just because it is winter, it doesn’t mean you can’t look like you have had two weeks in the sun. Fake tan is a quick and easy way to give your body and face a healthier sun-kissed glow, without the need for a vacation.

Wear bright colored clothing

Finally, just by choosing brighter clothing, you can instantly transform your overall look. We can all have a tendency to stick to darker colors in the winter, but there is no reason to do that.

I hope these tips help you brighten up your appearance.

Almost every family’s number one priority is their safety and security. After all, a man’s home is his castle, so there is no wonder we try to protect our home and all of our belongings inside. Not only that, though, but improving your home’s security will help your family stay safe. There are lots of ways a property’s security could be put at risk, from burglaries and intruders to flooding and fires. To make sure your home is as safe and secure as possible, here are some remarkable security tips and tricks.

Move Your Spare Key

Do you keep your spare key under your door mat or under a large flowerpot in your front garden? Well, this may not be as good an idea as you had originally thought. Sure, it will be useful if one of your kids leaves home without their key and ends up locked out. But there is one major downside. These days, many burglars and intruders are wising up to the tricks that homeowners use to try and keep them away from the property, and this is one that they have sussed out. Lots of burglars now know the common hiding spaces for spare keys. So rather leaving your spare out where it is easy to find, you should consider giving it to a neighbor instead. That way, if someone does end up locking themselves out, they can simply pop around to the neighbor and ask for the spare key to let themselves in.

Utilize Your Loft Space

Worried that you could lose a lot of your valuables and important documents if you were to ever suffer from flooding? If so, it’s a good idea to utilize your loft space as storage, and leave important items and belongings up there. As they will be very high up in your home, there is very little chance that flood water will ever reach them. This is also a great way to protect them from burglars as well. Most burglars won’t spend a lot of time in your home, and will just search for things on the lower floors. They won’t want to risk going so far up a home into the loft. After all, most people simply store all their junk in their attic or loft space! So not only is it the most flood proof area of your home, but it is also one of the safest from burglars.

Fireproof Your Documents

There is another big risk to important documents and contracts – a house fire! If you ever find that your house is on fire, there is only one thing you should do: get everyone outside to a safe area. You can then call your local fire department to come and deal with the blaze. Unfortunately, a lot of your possessions and belongings will be destroyed in the fire. People end up losing important documents, such as birth certificates, home leases, and bank contracts. Losing all this paperwork can be extremely frustrating as replacing it can be time-consuming and expensive. To ensure you don’t lose these documents, even in a fire, it could be worth investing in a fireproof safe. If you aren’t sure which safe is best for you, you can read an online guide to safes.

Get Adequate Insurance

You can insure almost every aspect of your life these days, and your home is no different! Even though getting an insurance policy isn’t going to prevent anything bad from happening, it will help you deal with the aftermath a lot better. That’s because you won’t have to worry about any financial loss caused by a burglary, fire, or flood. An insurance policy that covers your property and belongings from flood or fire damage will payout to help you replace lost belongings and pay for building repairs. You can also insure your home and possessions against theft and burglary. For example, if a burglar takes your TV, your insurance policy should pay out a sum of money that you can use towards replacing it.

Install Burglar Deterrents

There are a few items that you can add to your home’s exterior that will act as deterrents and will put burglars off entering your property. For instance, as soon as a potential intruder spots a burglar alarm on your home, there is very little chance that they will try and break in. That’s because there is too much risk of the alarm going off and attention being drawn to the house. The same goes for CCTV cameras. If there is a visible CCTV camera on your property, no burglar is going to risk getting caught on film! There is one downside to installing CCTV and burglar systems onto your property, though. And that is the huge price tag that they often come with! If you want to save a bit of cash, you can always see about getting some fake alarms and cameras. These are often a lot cheaper than the real deal, and most intruders and burglars won’t be able to tell the difference!

Form A Neighborhood Watch

There is safety in numbers, and you will be able to club together with people in your local area to make your neighborhood a much safer place to live. Lots of neighborhoods are now organizing their very own neighborhood watches. There isn’t much you need to do once you form one. It’s just about being extra vigilant and investigating any suspicious behavior that you may see. This will also help to protect families from floods and fires, as neighbors are often the first people to notice these damaging events. And everyone will be able to team up to help people recover after suffering such a terrible disaster. So, what are you waiting for? Why not call a meeting with your neighbors this week!

You and your family should never have to live in an unsafe home or area. Hopefully, all of the above tips and tricks can help you enjoy a very safe and secure, and ultimately happier,  life!

The World of Tomorrow: What the Future Holds For Our Children

The world is living in pretty uncertain times in 2017. The political landscape is a bit of a minefield (to say the least), there’s ever louder alarm bells ringing about the state of climate change, and nobody can be quite too sure which celebrity might be the next to make his or her way onto the afterlife. That being said, scientists do actually know a fair amount of what the future will hold. While this might not affect the people in society who are currently in the prime of their life, it will be the future that is left for future generations. What do they have to look forward to?

Internet of Things

The internet of things is already upon the world, though nowhere near the extent that it one day will be. Put simply, the internet of things is the interconnection between everyday items, such as, say, a refrigerator. While some newer items already have the capacity to send and receive data, home automation experts believe that it could soon transform domestic life. It’ll mean a homeowner will be able to control things like their lights, energy, and more via an online portal or app. For children who grow up in this environment, the possibility for higher productivity and greater security is limitless.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence will one day have an even bigger impact on the world than the internet, smartphones, and cars combined. It will revolutionise society, allowing humans to do more than ever before. In fact, it’s possible that further down the line humans will be integrated with AI, which will bring also superhuman capabilities. In the next decades, it’s also likely that AI will be able to integrated with a human mind, allowing that mind to live on forever. The other artificial thing that will transform society are artificial organs; soon, patients will be able have an organ that is grown in a lab inserted into their body.

Traditional Models Broken Down

The ever increasing amount of innovative ideas will bring on revolutionary ideas the likes of which have never been seen before. It’ll mean the collapse of old institutions; for example, media, which is already facing difficulties, may soon become a bit player on the world stage, with people instead getting their information and entertainment from completely new sources. Gender equality will also be greatly improved throughout the world, which will result in many more positions of power being occupied by women.

pexels-photo-26265Source: Pexels.com

Renewable Energy

There are plans being set in motion that will have long lasting impacts on how human consume their energy. It is estimated that by 2050, practically all of our energy will come from renewable sources, making the world a healthier place in the process. This will make air pollution – which is having a massive effect on cities around the world – less of a concern, but it’s also likely that this shift in policy will have been to reaction to the negative effects of climate change, which could affect millions of people in the coming decades.

Because You’re Worth It! How To Create A Hotel Boudoir Right In Your Own Home

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Staying in a hotel is a bit of a luxury for many of us. When we are running a household (and that’s a full-time job in itself) most of the time we are happy to fall asleep just about anywhere after another long and tiring day! As a result of this, our bedrooms can tend to fall apart. They become simply a functional place to sleep in and wake up in – there’s nothing all too homely about them, let alone luxurious. But what if you could have that hotel feeling right in the comfort of your own home. No one should ever dread going to their bedroom because it’s either not welcoming, or simply full of mess. Here are a few ways you can bring hotel luxury to your own bedroom, and hence feel renewed and refreshed every single day.

AIMCO_apartment_bedroomImage source

Keep it clean

Yes, so the bedroom is just another room for you to clean in your role as a busy mom, But you may actually be surprised at how good you feel after you have put the effort into looking after your own personal space. You never walk into a hotel room to find mess all over the floor and the surfaces- and if you do, you ask for a refund or an upgrade! So taking five minutes out of your day to put things away in your room can save you a lot of stress. After all, no one wants to come home after work and sit in a messy environment. It really isn’t conducive to relaxation. Invest in some good storage options (under the bed is always useful) and make a mental note that everything has its place.

Take care of your bed

Be honest: how many times do you leave for work in a morning with your bed an absolute mess? A piled-up duvet, scattered pillows and a sheet that’s coming off the mattress… not exactly that premium hotel look! It might seem like a waste of time to some people – after all, we only get back into our beds at the end of the day – but having a freshly made bed can really make a huge difference to the whole room. One way to encourage yourself to do this is to invest in some good quality bedding, such as Plumeria Bay Comforters. You can stop short of the hotel chocolate on the pillow – but there’s no better feeling than climbing into a well-made bed at the end of the day.

heart-1280525_640Image source

Keep the essentials close by

As they are known as a place to de-stress, hotels tend to have all the relaxing essentials close by. It is easy to recreate this aspect in your own room, by simply lighting a few candles and having a few pampering items at the ready. It doesn’t need to be anything extravagant – just some nice hand creams, a facial cleanser or a face mask will do. But having these kind of things nearby will tell you that it’s now time to relax, just as you would when visiting a hotel.

The Most Expensive Times Of The Year: Don’t Be Left Out Of Pocket With This Advice!

Most families are left scrimping in January after having a costly year. After all, events like birthdays and Christmas can leave families struggling to make ends meet. And it’s a recurring sentence as every year the same thing occurs. Therefore, it can be a challenge for families to ever save money. And things, like moving house or getting a new family car, have to be put on the backburner. However, you don’t have to scrimp through this year if you are careful with money. Here is some great advice so that you don’t end up out of pocket after the most expensive times of the year!

Your kid’s birthday

If you ask any parent about their child’s birthday, they are bound to tell you how expensive it can be. In fact, the average parent can spend several hundred dollars on their child’s birthday! And if you have more than one child, it can leave you feeling the pinch for the whole year. For one thing, gifts can cost a small fortune as presents get more extravagant. Kids are asking for high-tech devices like iPads as gifts to keep up with the other children in their class. And as this feature says, a whopping 46% of parents admit to getting into debt by purchasing something their kids wanted! Therefore, when it comes to presents, you need to try and spend less so that you don’t end up out of pocket. Look online to see if the gifts your kids want are on sale anywhere. And search for coupons which will ensure you get the item for half the price. Also, don’t hesitate to look at less well-known brands who do their own version of items like tablets. It will still allow your child to do what they want, but it will cost a fraction of the price. And when it comes to parties, parents are spending a small fortune on huge parties for their child. After all, they try and ensure their child’s birthday stands out from the other kids in the class. But a lot of the time, your child will be happy to have a party at your house! Here are some tips to help you hold a great (and cheap) party for your kid.

Your Easter shopping

You will be surprised that a lot of parents are left feeling the pinch after Easter. After all, Easter eggs can end up costing your family a small fortune. And they tend to get more expensive every year! However, there are some ways you can ensure your family still has a good Easter without spending a fortune. For one thing, you need to cut down on the list of who you are buying eggs for. After all, the other kids in your child’s class are bound to get a ton of Easter eggs from their own family. So it’s not necessary for you to get them eggs too! And then you should consider making your own Easter eggs. There are plenty of recipes online you can follow to make your own chocolate eggs which will still taste just as good to your kids!

Your annual vacation

One of the top things which leaves families in debt is their annual summer vacation. After all, after the flights, hotel, and spending money, it can cost families thousands of dollars. And then they have to scrimp for the rest of the year due to that week in the sun. However, it doesn’t have to cost you a small fortune. For one thing, you should make sure you compare flights online first before you book. There might be a less well-known airline you can go with for a fraction of the cost. Or you might even be prepared to stop to make it cheaper for your family. And instead of staying at an expensive hotel, have a look at self-catering accommodation. It can often work out a lot cheaper for your family if you stay in a flat or a villa during your stay. And you could always consider having a staycation this year instead. You could end up saving so much money which can go into your savings. And your family can still have a good time during the summer. You can just have plenty of days out instead to places like theme parks and museums!

Your car insurance

It can also be a dire time for families when their car insurance bill comes around. If you pay annually, it can leave you feeling the pinch once a year. After all, car insurance can cost up to a thousand dollars. But before you pay out for insurance, you need to make sure you aren’t going to get a better deal elsewhere. After all, you could end up saving a hundred dollars just by switching to someone else. You can also look on sites like forum.DontPayFull.com to find help on getting a special deal on your car insurance. And tips to help you save such as putting someone else on the insurance.

Your back to school shopping

You would be surprised that back to school shopping can end up costing families a small fortune. In fact, http://www.forbes.com/ states that parents can actually end up spending over $1000 on back to school supplies. Everything from new technology to school clothes and supplies can cost a small fortune. But it doesn’t have to be an expensive time for families. For one thing, you should look through things like stationary to see if there is any point in buying new ones. If they are still in good nick, your kids can use it for another year. And ask for clothes, you should make sure you go early to get the best price on school clothing. And look online as you might find a good deal on school clothing for your kids.

And as for Christmas shopping (a lot of us are still suffering from that spend-up last month), it’s best to get items as you see them in the sale. After all, the prices rocket nearer to the time. Therefore, get to the shops early to find items for friends and family. And remember to buy things like cards and wrapping paper now while they are 50% off!

But hold your horses! It’s all good having your head in the clouds thinking of your next destination, but there’s some serious groundwork you have to lay before you can jet off. Not only that, but there is a lot you have to consider.

Firstly, plan your luggage and pack lightly. Don’t be the guy/girl carrying eighteen packs around. Traveling isn’t really about carrying stuff. It’s about enjoying yourself and exploring, and you can’t do that under the strain of heaving loads of luggage. If you can afford to leave something at home, leave it at home. There’s no excuse for bringing a laptop, a tablet, a camera and a smartphone when just the small smartphone will suffice for every job! Having your luggage packed well before your departure will save you a lot of issues.

Plan well for your getaway – this will make your journey so much easier if you know exactly where you are going and when. Have your routes to and from the airport planned out and pre-book your trips to the airport via taxis or transfers if you can. It’s all about putting in the work before it actually becomes a headache!

There are two forms of research you must do – once for fun and once for coping. Fun research involves having a long look at your destination and planning your itinerary – where will you visit, what will you do? This is essential as you’re not going away to stare at a wall for a week! Find some fun activities to take part in and have a look at the restaurants around your hotel. Google Maps can help here as it can recommend the best food and restaurants near your hotel based on reviews. The other form of research here is coping – do you understand the language? What are the local customs? Is there any danger? Do you need to get vaccinated for or protect yourself from diseases like hepatitis c sofosbuvir? This is important to know!

Planning, preparation and research are three things you must do before your next vacation. Yes, it’s work, but performing it in advance is going to make sure you have the getaway of a lifetime!
