These days, we are all aware of the threats and dangers to our natural environment. Whether you believe in global warming or not, it is clear that certain things we do in our day to day lives can severely damage our environment. For example, recent studies showed that on average, Americans use up to 75 percent more water per capita than other nationalities. Helping the environment is all about protecting it for generations to come. Recycling is one of those ways we can easily do that from the comfort of our own homes. It hugely minimises the amount of landfill waste left to rot on our land, which also has a huge impact on the economy. Read on to find out how you and your family can start to become more environmentally friendly.

Invest in glass bottles
Using plastic water bottles or juice bottles can have a terrible effect on the environment.  Many of them ending up in landfill which takes centuries to decompose. Plus, a scary number also end up at the bottom of the ocean – damaging marine life. Avoid buying plastic bottles for the home and instead, switch to glass bottles for cold drinks. As well as helping the environment, you could also be supporting your own health. Studies have shown that drinking water out of a glass bottle could actually be better for you than drinking it out of a plastic one. Plus, drinking out of a glass tends to taste better, too!
Use recycle bins
If you have recycling bins that are provided by your local government, make use of them. It barely takes any time at all to separate different materials such as tins, glass and plastics, and it can have a huge effect on the natural world. If you don’t have any provided, or if that sounds like a little too much hassle, consider buying an indoor recycle bin.

Dump your stuff responsibly

Many household items that we don’t use anymore end up building up in a pile in our garages, and are then sent to landfill. As well as being a pain for us (because, let’s face it, that pile tends to be there for a while), we are potentially damaging our environment by putting these items in a dumpster or landfill. If your pile of junk has built up so much that it’s impossible to tackle on your own, why not visit somewhere such as http://www.baywidehauling.com/berkeley-junk-removal/? Many haulage companies these days pride themselves on being greener than ever, so you can relax knowing that your junk is gone and that it will be recycled.

Composting

It might seem gross to you at first, but composting is one of the easiest ways to make your home a little greener. Invest in a compost bin which you can place outside and dispose of any household kitchen waste in there. It will start to decompose and will become compost. As it is full of vital nutrients, it is ideal for growing flowers or plants in. So if you’re a keen gardener, there’s no excuse not to start composting!

It is safe to say that Summer is on it’s way out and fall is about to start. But with fall and of course winter, you are likely to receive harsher weather. Rain, colder days, and even snow can cause huge problems to your home when advanced preparation hasn’t taken place. Fall is the perfect time to prepare your home for any bad weather to come. With that in mind, here are some essential tips to prepare you home for the harsher winter weather.

14611352085_8c6d56b4be_zImage credit

Make sure you heating system is in good working order

As winter approaches the days will get shorter and colder. So it’s vital to ensure that your whatever heating system your home has in place are in good working order. The last thing anyone wants is for this system to break down on the coldest day of the year. Test out your system and see if it fires up or call in a professional to give your heating system the once over. This could highlight any potential issues giving you plenty of time to resolve them.

Clear out the gutters to ensure good drainage

Bad weather often means rain and a lot of it. So as this rain pours it is essential to ensure it has somewhere to go, otherwise it could potentially cause you further damages. Things like flooding or problems to your foundations. It could even flood any basement area you have causing you to consider a wet basement repair. A great tip is to ensure that all gutters and drains are cleared of any debris or leaves. Often these things are the main culprits when it comes to any blockages. It’s a simple job but could save you a lot of hassle.

Add additional protection to exposed pipework

Exposed pipework is subject to the elements. While this normally doesn’t pose a threat, it can be problematic during the cold and icy days. Those pipes could freeze on the severest of days, and when thawed can burst. Causing leaks and problems you won’t want to be hassled with. A good idea is to add protection to that exposed pipework. Often a foam surround is enough to keep the pipe from freezing inside.

Make sure your garden and pathways are cleared

Snow and rain can cause a lot of problems anyway, but don’t create further problems by having uncleared gardens and pathways. During the fall leaves and debris gather, and during the harsher weather they can become a hazard across your walkways. Give these areas a clean as often as possible. It could be as simple as brushing the pathway or driveway regularly.

Checkout your attic space for any obvious roof issues

Finally, check out your attic and loft space before the bad weather sets in. Any damage may have gone unnoticed during the sunnier months, but a leak could cause you a lot of internal damage like damp and even mould. Being aware of any suspected issues in advance gives you the upper hand to resolve problems before they become serious.

QUEEN OF KATWE opens in theaters in limited release on September 23rd and everywhere on September 30th!

“Queen of Katwe” is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion. Directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler, “Queen of Katwe” is produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher, p.g.a. and John Carls, p.g.a. with Will Weiske and Troy Buder serving as executive producers. The film stars Golden Globe® nominee David Oyelowo, Oscar® winner and Tony Award® nominee Lupita Nyong’o and newcomer Madina Nalwanga.

For 10-year-old Phiona Mutesi (Nalwanga) and her family, life in the impoverished slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda, is a constant struggle. Her mother, Harriet (Nyong’o), is fiercely determined to take care of her family and works tirelessly selling vegetables in the market to make sure her children are fed and have a roof over their heads. When Phiona meets Robert Katende (Oyelowo), a soccer player turned missionary who teaches local children chess, she is captivated. Chess requires a good deal of concentration, strategic thinking and risk taking, all skills which are applicable in everyday life, and Katende hopes to empower youth with the game. Phiona is impressed by the intelligence and wit the game requires and immediately shows potential. Recognizing Phiona’s natural aptitude for chess and the fighting spirit she’s inherited from her mother, Katende begins to mentor her, but Harriet is reluctant to provide any encouragement, not wanting to see her daughter disappointed. As Phiona begins to succeed in local chess competitions, Katende teaches her to read and write in order to pursue schooling. She quickly advances through the ranks in tournaments, but breaks away from her family to focus on her own life. Her mother eventually realizes that Phiona has a chance to excel and teams up with Katende to help her fulfill her extraordinary potential, escape a life of poverty and save her family. Disney’s “Queen of Katwe” will open in U.S. theaters on September 23, 2016.

Keep Your Little Ones Safe In The Car On The Road

If you have kids, safety is probably always on your mind. Whether they are at home, in school, or even on holiday. However, something seems to change when we get on the roads. A lot of parents completely forget the child in the back seat. It’s ironic because many have ‘baby on board’ plastered on the back window. But if you look at the way they are driving, they’re the ones putting the kids at risk. To a certain extent, it’s understandable why some people aren’t the safest drivers. When you get behind the wheel of a car, you’re taking on an enormous amount of power. It’s tempting to throw that power around a little and people do. Particularly when they have bigger cars. But those parents have to remember and consider the littles ones in their back seat. If they think about this now, they can avoid a massive regret later.

Bigger Isn’t Always Safer

car-wrecked-845143_960_720Image

There are parents who feel reassured that their children are safe because they have a larger car. If the children are high up and in a powerful machine, there’s little chance of them being injured in an accident. That’s rarely ever true, and some larger vehicles can be more dangerous. For instance, in the past, a number of SUVs have been tangled in lawsuits because they have rolled during an accident. As such, you shouldn’t assume bigger is better for the safety of your children. It’s not about what you drive but rather, how you drive it.

One Is Always Too Many

drink-driving-808801_640File Credit

You might think that you’re safe having one glass of wine or one lager when you’re on the road. According to new research, this isn’t the case, and one could be just as dangerous as ten. When it comes to drinking and driving, it’s best to keep the number of glasses at zero. You don’t want to take that risk. You may not legally be held responsible if you crash after one beer. But, if you do end up in an accident you will always wonder. Would I have seen that hazard earlier if I hadn’t been drinking? Would I have stopped in time? You don’t want to spend the rest of your life asking yourself those questions. You’ll be able to get a DWI lawyer on your side but everyone else will blame you for the accident.

Never Argue In The Car

8691742996_5053244d52_zCredit Image

Children in the car can be incredibly distracting. They might be arguing with one another. They might be arguing with you. Some children can even be quite aggressive, hitting at one another. Those erratic movements will take your attention away from the road. The danger here is you focus more on your kids and less on the drivers around you. Instead, it’s best to pull over if you see your children start to act up. Make sure that you get them under control before you continue to drive. Or, find a way to calm them down by putting on music or their favorite show in the back. Many people don’t realize that arguing can be just as dangerous as talking on the phone.

Swapping The City For The Countryside: Pros And Cons

This post may contain affiliate links.

For some people, living in a city is incomparable. You’ve got everything you need right on your doorstep. Shops, superstores, your job and entertainment for the kids is all easily accessible. Plus, as it’s always so busy, there’s always someone to talk to! But on the other hand, many people who live a more rural life couldn’t imagine moving back to the city when they’ve got stunning views and fresh air in abundance. If you are considering upping sticks in the hope of enjoying a new lifestyle, here are some things you may need to think about first.

Accessibility
Cities are functional, purpose-built places. You can pick you kids up from school, drop them off at ballet, go to the store and pick them up again all in a matter of hours thanks to the huge road network. As so many people drive on the roads every day in large cities, they also tend to be well maintained by the local authorities. Country roads on the other hand, are a little different. Some aren’t even proper roads – more like dirty tracks or stony pathways. If you have a car that can cope with this, such as a Jeep, you will get along fine. But if you’re moving to the countryside, forget bringing your low-rise sports car. On the downside of city living, the roads can often become overcrowded – especially at rush hour. Road traffic accidents are also the biggest killer of under 25s in the world, so you need to consider your family’s safety.

Space

In a city, it can sometime feel as though we are packed in like sardines. With new developments being built all the time, we are certainly getting more houses – but, the houses are getting smaller. In fact, many families these days now live in apartments, where space is limited. You may find you have to scrimp on certain items that would unfortunately take up too much room in your city pad. Alternatively, living in a huge property in the country can make you something of a hoarder. If you are planning on downsizing and moving to the city, make some time to learn about Town and Country Movers. Getting the right removals company will make things a lot easier for you when it comes to sorting your possessions.

landscape-countryside-way-fieldsImage source

Lifestyle

Consider the kind of life you want for your and your family. Country life can be happy and carefree, and can provide your children with an admiration and respect for nature. It can also significantly lower your stress levels and be healthier for everyone too. After all, many major cities in the US are now heavily polluted, which can cause long term health problems. However, even if you are totally besotted with the country living dream, you may need to think about whether it is practical. Depending on how far out you move, you and your children could end up feeling isolated, especially if you are away from your extended family. It may also be difficult for them to access the local schools and colleges. Make sure you discuss everything with your whole family before making any decisions.

The Secret To An Amicable Divorce

It is one of those things that can happen at just about any time. No-one wants to think that it will happen to them. But the truth is, you never know. If it does happen to you, then there will be a lot of thoughts running through your mind. It might feel deeply unfair or painful to be in this position. However, there are ways of making the process a little easier, even if it will never be entirely stress-free. In this article, we are going to look at some of the key ways that you can ensure your divorce is as amicable as possible. If you are keen for nobody to get unnecessarily hurt, then it would be wise to bear the following in mind.

Communication

Above all, the secret to a healthy breakup is to be as openly communicative as possible. This is something which is often very difficult to properly achieve. Yet, it is a vital part of the whole process. Honest communication is always the best policy, even if it doesn’t always seem like it. As long as both parties are completely straight up about what they think and how they feel, there can be no confusion. If you want your divorce to go as smoothly as possible, it is a good idea to bear this in mind. Try to communicate in a way which shows respect to the other person without being dishonest.

Co-Operation

This might sound like an unlikely quality to champion in this situation, but it is actually essential. For a divorce or any breakup to go well, both parties need to work together. Of course, it is often the case that this is the last thing you really want to do. However, it also happens to be just about the best thing you can do. Co-operation stops a divorce from being a childish fight, and lifts it up into a higher perspective. Although difficult to achieve, it is well worth the effort for the fruits it brings.

people-apple-iphone-writingImage Source

Compassion

Again, for many people, having compassion for the person they are divorcing can seem unlikely. But once again, it is often the best approach to have. If you are able to show at least some compassion to the other person, it is much less likely that it will descend into arguments. This is also something that you should bear in mind when dealing with the legal side of things. An attorney like Matt Skillern can help settle your divorce with a sense of compassion. This makes the whole thing a lot easier on everyone.

Mediation

Ultimately, you need to find a way to healthily communicate with your ex-partner without offending them. If it helps, you might find getting a mediator is beneficial. They can ensure that everyone’s opinion is heard, which in turn makes the whole thing easier. As long as everyone feels valued equally, there is less opportunity for people to feel hurt. This is one of the most important aspects of the whole process.

Are You Getting Your 8 Hours A Night? Why We Really Do Need Our Beauty Sleep

When you hear someone mention beauty sleep, you probably think it’s just a saying that has no scientific backing. But research actually shows that we really do need our beauty sleep. Here are some of the most important benefits of sleep, and some tips and tricks to help you get your 8 hours a night.

The benefits of sleep

Physical appearance

We all know the effects of sleepless nights on our appearance. When you look in the mirror, and you’ve not slept a wink, the reflection staring back at you can be a scary sight. Your eyes may be dull and dazed, and you might have dark circles. Your skin may look dry and drab. Your hair might be lank and limp. When you’ve had a good night’s sleep, it’s a different story. Your eyes and bright and alert, your skin glowing. You feel ready to take on the day, rather than wishing you could hide away from the world. Good quality sleep is proven to help brighten your skin and keep your complexion looking youthful. When you sleep, your skin cells undergo essential processes. New skin cells are formed, and this makes your skin look younger and more radiant. There’s also a lower risk of puffiness around the eyes and dark circles.

eye-1227705_640Image by https://pixabay.com/en/photos/face/?cat=health

Mental health

Most people can cope with a bad night from time to time, but you can usually notice the effects of a disturbed night. The day after, you may struggle to find the energy to get through the day. You may be more irritable and restless than usual, and it’s difficult to concentrate. A lack of sleep can also increase your risk of stress. If you’re tired, even the smallest things can get on top of you. Before you know it, a molehill has become a mountain. If you’re already stressed, sleepless nights can make you feel even worse. You can become trapped in a cycle, as stress can then prevent you from sleeping. Sleep deprivation can also increase the risk of depression and anxiety.

Physical health

Sleep is essential for maintaining good health. When you get enough sleep, your body can recover from the day’s events and prepare for the next day. If you think about everything you do in a 24-hour period, it’s no wonder that your body feels tired sometimes. Taking time out enables it to undergo important healing processes. Your brain takes this time to work out everything that has happened during the day and create memories. The cells in your body can be repaired, and your muscles can rest ready for the physical challenges tomorrow holds.

Getting sufficient sleep is not just important for your energy levels and your mood. It also has a major impact on disease prevention and your ability to fight off illness. Research has linked sleep deprivation to an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. One study, which involved shift workers, found a significant link between sleep and diabetes. After just four days of working shifts, researchers reported shocking results. A third of participants had blood sugar levels representative of pre-diabetes. Sleep can also increase your immunity and decrease the intensity of pain.

Top tips to help you get your 8 hours a night

Making time for sleep

Sleep experts recommend between seven and eight hours of sleep per night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, it’s time to put your health first. It may be a simple matter of going to bed too late or getting up too early. If this is the case, you can adjust your sleep routine to fit in more downtime. Do you fall asleep watching TV and then struggle to get up when your alarm goes off? If so, go to bed earlier. You may find that it takes a while to drop off for the first few nights. But your body will soon adjust to your new regime. If you can get to the stage when you’re going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day, you should find it much easier to get sufficient rest.

Battling stress

Stress is one of the most common causes of sleepless nights. Everyone goes through periods of stress. Often, it’s possible to find solutions and get on with life. But sometimes, stress can be so severe that it takes over and makes you feel like you’re wading through mud. If you are stressed, try and identify triggers, and experiment with coping mechanisms. Popular therapies include massage, aromatherapy, and meditation. Exercise, creative activities and simply taking time to relax can also help. If you’ve tried everything, and you’re still struggling, consult your doctor. You can find more useful information at http://www.helpguide.org/articles/stress/stress-management.htm.

Making sure you’re comfortable

They say you never sleep better than when you’re in your own bed. But what happens when your bed is old, lumpy, and full of broken springs? If this sounds familiar, it’s no wonder you’re not enjoying blissful nights. It’s important to replace your mattress when it starts to lose firmness. Your bed should provide support for your back and neck when you sleep. If you’re waking up with aches and pains, see Mattress-Guides.net for reviews and recommendations. A new bed could help to restore peaceful nights at home.

Identifying what’s keeping you awake

If you have sleep troubles on a regular basis, think about what’s keeping you awake at night? Is it too noisy? Is the dawn light waking you up every morning? Are you worried about work or thinking about paying bills or getting a new job? Are you struggling to switch off or are you suffering from pain? Once you’ve identified the cause, you can try and find solutions. There are may be simple answers out there. You could wear an eye mask or invest in blackout curtains to block out light, for example. In other cases, finding a solution may not be as straightforward. If you can’t manage to do this, don’t hesitate to ask for help.

If you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re probably aware of the short-term effects. You may have noticed the bags under your eyes and your lack of focus. But have you thought about the long-term impact? Sleep is essential for so many reasons. If you can’t sleep, try and adjust your sleep regime and take time to relax. Replace an old mattress, and turn your bedroom into a cozy, calm haven. Try and utilize stress-management methods if you feel under pressure. If self-help techniques don’t help, consider seeing your doctor.

How To Use Food To Bring Your Family Closer Together

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Having a close family can be a joy. However, as kids grow up and develop their own hobbies, it can feel like drifting apart. Parents have important jobs to tend to, kids do their own thing, and before you know it, families don’t know that much about one another at all. Bringing your family closer together will give you a better sense of well-being. One way to bring your family closer together is by using food. It’s a very powerful tool! Here’s how you can use food to bring your family closer together:

Come Up With Family Meals Together

Instead of flying by the seat of your pants and deciding what you’re going to eat on the day you’re going to be eating it, come up with family meals together in advance. You can do this on Sunday ready for the start of the week. If the whole week seems too intimidating to you, try doing just 2 or 3 days in advance. You can let the kids choose something they’d like to eat, and they’ll be more inclined to eat their dinner this way. They’ll be happy you’re getting them involved, and they might even feel a sense of responsibility by deciding what you all have to eat. If you have fussy eaters in your family, allowing them to contribute could even encourage them to break out of their habits.

13920589223_906b58c786_zImage author

Go Shopping Together

Going shopping for food together is another way to instill responsibility into the kids. Write out a list and give them different tasks. It’ll encourage everybody to work together in harmony. One could push the trolley, for example, and the others could collect the items that you need. Don’t turn it into a competition or anything like that, as it could quickly cause arguments between kids. Shopping together can be stressful, but when you give them tasks it can help to make your life easier as well as keep them quiet. You may need to spend a little longer on your food shop, but it will be worth it.

Cook Together

Cooking meals together can help the kids to improve a bunch of different skills. It can also be a wonderful bonding activity for you all. Make sure you give them tasks that are appropriate for their age, and always supervise them if they are using any dangerous equipment. It shouldn’t be too hard for them to use induction pots and pans, but always be cautious when using a knife or something sharp is required. Just some of the benefits of cooking together include:

  • Learning about hygiene, healthy foods and the science of cooking.
  • Improving maths and english skills.
  • Increasing self esteem.
  • Having lots of fun as a family!

3586601297_b41e992b5b_zimage

Set Up Fun Cooking Lessons

If you love cooking together, you could always go one step further and set up fun cooking lessons. This is where you could demonstrate how to cook something to your kids, and then let them use what they’ve learned to make something themselves. It gives them a chance to improve their problem solving skills, learn from their mistakes, and make some decisions for themselves. Cooking is a key skill for just about anybody, and your kids are going to be great at it from a young age if you do fun things like this! It’s a great idea for a rainy day too.

Eat Dinner Together

Families who eat dinner together are closer than those who don’t eat dinner together. There are a ton of benefits to both you and your kids. You’ll all learn more about one another, as you get to spend quality time together without technology getting in the way. Simply chatting about your days can help you all to relieve some stress and get some much needed insight from a different perspective. Not only that, you teach your child better eating habits. They’ll learn to appreciate their food more if you take your time to eat it together. Studies also show that kids who eat dinner as a family are more intelligent, happier, and less likely to get into trouble. Start doing this while your kids are young so that it becomes a habit for you all.

Go On Family Dates

It’s normal for a couple to go on dates together. If you have kids, this might be the only time you get just the two of you. That’s great, you should definitely keep that up. Just make sure you go on family dates together too. Even if you only do this once a month, it’ll help you all to have a great time together and bond over lovely food that somebody else has made. After all, cooking all the time can be stressful, so it’s nice to have a break every so often. Go on family dates to restaurants that you love and you’ll make memories. It might cost you more, but memories are one of the most valuable things that you can have.

Host A Family Cook Off

This is a really fun way to get your whole family together. Giving it the competitive edge can make people take it really seriously and put lots of effort in! You don’t have to limit it to immediate family. Invite your extended family over to join in too. Take hints from a game show or make up your own rules. You could even split the family into two teams by pulling names out of a hat. If you wish you could spend more time together as a family, this could be the perfect opportunity to do it! You could even include prizes to make it even more exciting. Get as creative as you like.

For years people have used food as a way to enjoy one another’s company, have a good time and feel closer to each other. It’s no different today. If you want to feel closer to your family and bring everyone closer together, try using some of these tips to make it happen. If you have ideas of your own, leave them below.

A Garden You Can Enjoy All Year Round- It’s Not as Difficult as You Think

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Do you envy those people that can enjoy their garden all year round? Is it a magical mystery that they are still able to spend time out of doors and be comfortable, even when it’s winter time? Well, you might be in for a positive surprise, because it’s not so difficult to get your garden into a state where you can enjoy it all year round. Read on for some suggestions.

Late Bloomers

Many people expect that gardens to look barren and pretty ugly come winter time. It isn’t surprising we are just taught from an early age that flowers bloom in the spring, and fruit and veg comes in the autumn. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

Experienced gardens know that there are lots of plants that continue to flower during the winter months. You can try Sweet William or the Iceland Poppy to add some much-needed colour, when the weather turns darker and colder.

There are even some fruits and veggies that you can grow to be harvested during the colder weather. Just imagine serving your guest beetroots and artichokes that you have grown yourself in December! They will be marvel at your green fingers!

beetroot-1666117_640Image here

Shelter

Another essential item that you need if you are going to enjoy your garden all year round is some shelter. This will provide you with a warm, dry place to be, even if the weather is inhospitable.

If you live somewhere where you only have to deal with wind and rain then products like Living cafe blinds, can be a good option. They are both waterproof and will keep the off your veranda or patio, allowing you to still get outdoors when the weather is inclement.

If you live somewhere where you get the white stuff, come winter, and the weather is a bit more extreme. A heated conservatory or summer house might be a better option. In that way, you will have full protection for am all the elements and will be able to appreciate the views will still keeping warm.

Keeping Warm

Talking of keeping warm, having some sort of patio heater is a great way of using your garden space more in the colder weather. If it’s fine and dry but just a little chilly, it can be nice to head outside with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket and sit under the patio heater.

Alternatives to the traditional gas patio heater include a chimnea, which runs on wood. Or a built in fire pit. You can choose to fuel these will wood or gas. You can even use beautiful fire glass, so the flames seem to be coming out of these gorgeous crystals.

Keeping That Lawn Mowed

One of the biggest problems with sitting outside in the winter is the lawn. This is because you are not meant to mow the grass when it’s wet. Which it often is in winter. This is because it makes one hell of a mess and can blunt the lawn mower blades.

However you will need to do this sometime if you want to be spending time outdoors in the colder months. Just remember to sharpen the blades before you mow, and lower the mower, so it’s closer to the ground.

Owning a dog can be a great experience for anyone to enjoy. The bond created between dog and owner is something that often can’t be replicated. However, owning a dog full time isn’t just about companionship. You have to ensure that you consider all their needs. With that in mind, here are some of the healthy habits of good dog ownership.

Ensuring they get regular exercise

A dog can have an abundance of energy. So it’s vital to ensure they get regular exercise. Often this may mean at least one walk a day. But some dog owners aim to exercise their dog morning and night. Good training is essential to ensure your dog is good on their lead, and can be let off to run around in open spaces. This is one of the easiest ways to combat the buildup of energy, and it makes sure your dog stays healthy and happy.

Making sure you take care of their habits

Dogs have habits just as humans do. They shed their fur all over the home, they chew things that don’t belong to them. So it’s important to make sure that these habits are taken care of. When it comes to the accumulation of pet fur in the home, regular grooming is just one of the ways that this problem can be combatted. Chewing is something that many dogs do out of boredom, or for health reasons like keeping their teeth clean. If this is something you see a dog regularly doing then investing in some strong dog toys could deter pet dogs away from more personal items. Websites like indestructibledogtoys.org offer great advice.

Feeding your dog the right food and amount

Some people can be guilty of overfeeding their dog as they think they are hungry. But this can lead onto a dog gaining excessive weight and becoming obese. It can be just as much a problem amongst dogs as it can be amongst people today. So it’s essential to research the type of food a breed of dog needs and the amount. Avoid offering treats regularly keeping them as a reward for when a good habit or behaviour has been displayed.

Considering where they sleep

It’s important for a dog to have their own space. So making sure they have beds or areas to sleep in is a great way to encourage a routine. They know that when they are in their bed, it’s the evening and time to relax not play. Websites like http://sivet.com have more information on the importance of it.

Establishing good structure and routine

Dogs need good structure and routine. Just as much as people do. A good schedule will ensure that good behaviour is encouraged. Knowing what is expected of them and when. Routine and structure also help combat one of the most common problems a dog can face, separation anxiety. With a schedule in place, they will know when they are alone, and when they aren’t. A dog may struggle to obey commands and often showcase bad behaviour if a regular routine isn’t adhered to. This way, they won’t be restless when it comes to exercise or the need to relieve themselves.
