WARNING- Oh the things I will do for my readers to show them a product I love.  Even post barefaced pictures of myself right after I gave myself a microdermabrasion treatment, including pictures of the dead skin that was removed.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you! 😉

I’ve never had a facial and truth be told, I used fall asleep before getting a chance to wash my face.  I didn’t really have the best habits or a routine for facial skin care.  And then time and age caught up with me.  I never understood how someone could have skin that was dry and oily at the same time until I was looking on the horizon to 40.  Now my forehead and cheeks are both really dry and yet oily at the same time.  I’ve tried different scrubs, moisturizers, and lotions but nothing has helped.  I didn’t really want to spend the money and the time to go for a professional facial or microdermabrasion so I was excited when Hammacher Schlemmer offered to send me The Pore Cleaning Microdermabrasion System available on their website to review.

 
I love how the entire system is housed in a sleek case so you don’t have to go searching for parts.  The full sized mirror on the inside of the lid makes it easy to see your face as you are doing your treatment.  It includes a year’s supply of 100 replacement filters as well as a cleaning brush, diamond-tip and suction tip.  Unlike microdermabrasion kits that use crystals or peels, this system creates no messy residue and is safe for use all over the face, including the delicate under-eye region.  It is so easy to use.   There are 3 intensity setting so you can choose what is most comfortable to you.  Select the intensity level and then just glide the diamon-tip wand slowly over the area you want to treat making no more than 3 passes over the same area.  The natural diamond-tipped wand exfoliates the epidermis while vacuuming up built-up dirt, makeup, and other impurities- YUCK!  Suggested use is three 10-minute treatments a week to remove dead skin cells while collagen and elastin are replenished.  This makes your skin tone more even and reduces the appearance of enlarged pores, age spots, and wrinkles.   Switch to the suction tip to create gentle suction that is powerful enough to deeply clean pores.  I am amazed how much comes out of my pores using the suction tip.

It is hard to see just how dry my skin was before my treatment so I am not including the pictures but the skin on my forehead and cheeks was extremely dry and oily.  I tried various moisturizers but nothing worked until I used the microdermabrasion machine.  You can see the dead skin it removed and the pictures don’t even do it justice.  It really removed a lot of dead skin and left my skin feeling incredibly smooth.

Above is a picture of the diamond-tip, the filter after 1 treatment, and a comparison of a new filter and the used filter to show how much it really works.  Gross, YES!  But pretty amazing that I am able to get these results at home in just 10 minutes!  I love that I have the choice of selecting an automatic program that target cheeks, lips, forehead, eyes, and nose with one of three levels of intensity or I can manually set the machine to my personal intensity preference.  The LCD panel shows the program selected and elapsed time, too.  It is really a painless, easy way to get the skin you’ve always wanted and I have to say I am hooked.  I love the way it makes my skin feel so much that I’ve made my family and friends touch my face.  It really feels that good- like a baby’s bottom.   (No jokes about my face and a baby’s bottom, ok?)
