Disclosure- I received a shirt in exchange for my honest review but all opinions are 100% my own.

abrupt designThat’s me in my shirt in front of Captain America himself, Chris Evans!

When I received the invite to the Captain America press event in Los Angeles and was told to pick a side- #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan, I knew right away that I was on Team Iron Man and I wanted a cool shirt to wear to the events. I went searching for the perfect shirt and found on on Abrupt Design’s Etsy shop. It was actually a vinyl wall design but owner told me “Anything is possible.” and they could put any wall design onto a shirt. I was so excited and shared the picture with some of my blogger friends and guess what? Some of them wanted to get a shirt like mine. Abrupt Design’s owner, Shawn, was so easy to work with. He sent over mockups for both teams’ shirts in various colors and made all the changes we asked for since we were adding our event hashtags and twitter handles to the shirt. The shirts all came out great. They are great quality shirts that aren’t too thin and they fit well. Abrupt Design made ordering for a large group so easy and the prices were great, too. I will be using Abrupt Design for all my custom T-shirt needs.

Here are some of the mockups Shawn sent over while we were trying to finalize the designs:

The Real O’Neals- “The Real Book Club” airs Tuesday April 19 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network

Tonight’s episode of The Real O’Neals is a really funny one. We had the opportunity to screen it last week when we were in Los Angeles for the #CaptainAmericaEvent and the #ABCTVEvent as well as interview several of the cast members Noah Galvin (“Kenny” – @Noahegalvin), Jay R. Ferguson (“Pat” – @jrfergjr), Matt Shively (“Jimmy” – @MattShively1), Mary Hollis Inboden (“Jodi” – @maryhollis)

Here’s a little synopsis of the episode:

Eileen faces her book club for the first time after her family’s “outing,” but things take a surprising turn when instead of shunning her the ladies begin opening up – way too much – about their own problems. Kenny’s first trip to the “gayborhood” coffee shop is everything he’d hoped for, until Pat tags along with him to a gay dodge ball match.

“Really at its core it’s a family.  It’s a family that is going through the same things that all families go through. We just have a little more color to our family.”  Jay R. Ferguson

Jay’s quote sums up the show so well. While viewers might not experience the same exact problems and situations that the O’Neals do yet it is so relateable. I’m not Catholic, I’m not getting a divorce (thank G-d), yet I can relate to trying to seem like I have it all together like Eileen. I think most people will be able to relate to so much of the show.

Eileen’s friends don’t shun her and instead open up to her which is great at first until they start to share a little too much.

Gay dodge ball. WHAT? Yes, gay dodge ball! So funny! See what happens when Pat hits the court.

One of the first things I noticed about the actors we met from The Real O’Neals was just how well they all got along. Their rapport with each other was captured so well in the pictures below but it’s not just for show. Mary Hollis Inboden and Matt Shively told us how they all have so much fun together that they hang out with each other even off set when they aren’t filming. This is pretty rare for a cast as Mary shared, “We love our show, we feel very fortunate to be working because we’re actors and that’s hard to get jobs. And it’s really hard to get on a show where you really love everybody.  And we really do.” “It’s next to impossible. You should see our text conversations. We have a group text conversation that dates back to when we first started and it’s thousands, thousands of texts.” Matt interjected.

“There are six starring cast members of this show and that’s a huge group for everybody to get along as well as we do, we can’t stop hanging out with each other in our off time,” ~Mary.

None of the cast had met or done a chemistry read or anything before they were hired. They all got their parts and then the first time they ever met each other was at the table read when they were ready to shoot the pilot. Matt told us, “ABC did a really good job at being like ‘well they’re probably work well together’. It was really crazy.”

IMG_2165

How precious is Mary Hollis Inboden?!?!? She was so friendly and funny. It was like talking to an old friend. She’s so sweet she has responded to several of my tweets. She has a background in comedy and has lots of one liners in this episode as Matt pointed out.

IMG_2186

Matt is so cute in real life and his hair is much better than his character Jimmy’s hair. He joked that we should start a twitter campaign to get the show to change his hair. Mary told us that she thinks Matt is the best improviser on the show which is fine with Matt. He loves that the producers let him do his own thing. He goes rogue all the time and it works according to Mary.  In fact Matt’s even helped Noah go a little rogue, too- “When Noah would get like nervous and be like ‘I think I want to say this or I want to do that’ I’m like ‘Just do it. Do it the way they wrote it a couple times and then on the third shot just say whatever you want.  A lot of the times they’ll end up liking it more because it comes from your head and you are your character, so just let it happen’.”

IMG_2247

Noah Galvin and Jay R.Ferguson Photo Credit- Coralie Seright from Lovebugs and Postcards

Noah Galvin and Jay R. Ferguson also have a special bond and rapport with each other. They are so close that Noah rents Jay’s guest house and they carpool to work together. Noah and Jay also reiterated how they all hang out socially when they aren’t working.

IMG_2251

Noah was so adorable. He told us that while he has favorite moments in each episode, his favorite episode is the grandma episode and I have to agree with him. That one is my favorite, too. If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch it online! It is hysterical. We asked Noah what he likes best about his character and he told us. “I like that he’s more book smart and I’m a little more street smart.  He’s like a little naïve. I’d say he’s like a true middle child he has aspects of both his siblings.  He has like Jimmy’s naiveté without being a downright idiot, he has Shannon’s like book smarts without being manipulative like she is.”

IMG_2257

Jay R. Ferguson Photo Credit- Coralie Seright from Lovebugs and Postcards

Jay  was asked what he likes about his character and this is what he said, “One of the main reasons I was so excited about the show selfishly for my character was a dad that didn’t react in what we’ve come to know as kind of the stereotypical way of reacting to these types of situations, namely one of his sons coming out as gay.  He was the antithesis really of what we’ve come to know. He wasn’t angry.  He didn’t try to talk him out of it. I believe is a more contemporary modern version of how fathers do react to that sort of news nowadays  in this world that we’re living in.  To see that represented on television is a real privilege to get to play that.”

Make sure to keep an eye out for my next post on The Real O’Neals where we interview the Executive Producers of the show. Have you seen The Real O’Neals? What is YOUR favorite episode?

The Family Sunday's on ABC 9/8c Tonight’s episode of The Family is a really great one. We had the opportunity to screen it last week when we were in Los Angeles for the #CaptainAmericaEvent and the #ABCTVEvent. It gets even more mysteriously shocking, twisty, and exciting. The pictures below give you a little taste of what it was like being in the room with 3 of it’s stars and 2 of it’s executive producers- Zach Gilford (“Danny”), Alison Pill (“Willa”), Floriana Lima (“Bridey”) and Executive Producers Jenna Bans & Laurie Zaks. It was so surreal to watch this episode sitting in the same room with the actors, watching their expressions as they were watching themselves on screen. They were all so laid back and easy to talk to.

It was so interesting to listen to Jenna Bans share how the show came about:
“I lived in a house and across the street was a sex offender and I freaked out and got really scared.  So part of it sort of came from there.  The other part was ABC had been wanting to do this idea of an imposter and make it into a mystery thriller.  So I married the two ideas.”

We asked if they shoot all the ten years ago scenes and then go into present day and this is what Jenna told us:

“We figure out the present stories we want to tell and then we look at what flashbacks could possibly inform those stories because ideally, they’re always connected together- thematically sort of tied together, where the past story is directly telling you something about the present story. We tried not to be tied to “we must have six flashbacks an episode”. We really only use what we needed to use because we didn’t want it to feel tired and wanted it to feel important when you were watching the past.  There’s a reason we’re telling you the story.”

IMG_1819

Alison Pill Photo Credit- Coralie Seright from Lovebugs and Postcards

Alison Pill was so sweet, and funny, and normal. So different from the uptight, religious, b*tchy character she plays but as the episodes go on we can see what has caused Willa to become the woman that she is. Alison does such a great job portraying her character Willa.

We asked Alison how she gets into character and this is what she said:

“First of all, we have really good writers, and it really makes sense to me.  I think the sort of touchstone for me is the moment when me and Madeline Arthur (young Willa) switch places on the bed in the motel.  She’s fully frozen at thirteen.  She is somebody who will do anything to keep her family together.  Everything else that is built up- all of this armor is only to get to her ultimate goal, which is having her entire family under one roof again. That’s it.  And every- literally, everything else is driven by that, so when anything threatens that, that is like the worst thing that can happen in the world.  So all of the emotion just comes from that thought of being thirteen and trying to keep your family together. I was a very emotional thirteen year old as most are. I also love the fact that she’s written in this way that, it was a slow burn with Willa, of like not understanding her and just being Willa. She hates her brother, she’s too uptight, and she’s really religious and all this stuff and then [we] just slowly get to know her emotional life which is so deep and huge. It’s been fun.”

IMG_1844

Zach Gilford (“Danny”) and Floriana Lima (“Bridey”) Credit- Coralie Seright from Lovebugs and Postcards

Floriana Lima is so down to Earth and sweet. It was so much fun seeing her interact with Zach Gilford almost in a brother/sister way teasing each other. At one point Zach (who doesn’t have a Twitter account- BOOO!) took Floriana’s phone and was tweeting pretending to be Floriana. It was so funny. Hopefully Zach will get his own Twitter account soon.

IMG_1887

Zach Gilford was so adorable and funny, like a playful older brother (although I’m pretty sure he’s younger than I am). He told us how so far in the show he never exchanged dialog with John (who plays his father). So now “it got to the point where if we even [Zach and John] make contact, we’d start laugh- eye contact, we’d start laughing.” There are scenes together where they acknowledged each other’s presence but they haven’t actually had lines together. Crazy, right?

You can tell in the picture above just how much the cast liked each other and had fun with each other and with the 2 Executive Producers. They were cracking each other up the whole time. They told us how not only is Joan Allen a great actress but she is so nice, too. She made a hundred and fifty cookies from her grandmother’s recipe on her day off and brought them in before their holiday break.  “Cakey, amazing cookies with delicious icing”. She also made a potato bar for the cast and crew to enjoy. Sounds like she likes to take care of everyone.

I didn’t realize that tv shows often have different directors on each episode. Andrew McCarthy directed several of the episodes this season and Alison Pill remarked how it was nice to see a familiar face. “It’s really weird going back and forth to different people and having Andrew [McCartney] a familiar face, because he came and did [episode three and then five and six] and having him for all of those you’re just like, oh, at least you’re not a stranger.  Because often the  annoying part is by the time you’re done eight days of shooting, you finally know this person and their vibe, and then they’re gone.” Not only is Andrew McCarthy a great director, but Jenna and Laurie told us how Andrew McCarthy “kinda does that physical transformation when he’s Hank. He walks different as Hank.  He’s so stiff [like when he] when he eats the sandwiches. He’s obsessed with his walk.”

Alison’s cast mates shared with us that even off screen she still puts in a great performance. Even when the camera will be on the other actors she’ll still cry and show emotion so the other actors have something to work off of. Floriana remarked that Alison is “a very giving actress”.

Alison Pill delivers a raw and memorable performance as Willa in tonight’s episode entitled “Sweet Jane” when confronted by her mother, Claire, played by the talented Joan Allen. In this episode Claire struggles with the aftermath of  Willa’s  scheming and how to deal with everyday life with Adam now that she knows the truth. Nina starts to follow Adam as he disappears every night from his home. Can you guess where he’s been going? Meanwhile Clements tries to figure out Jane’s connection to Doug (the pock-marked man). Will Jane find out what Doug is up to? What do you think her reaction will be? The Governor’s wife wants to get Claire out of the governor’s race so she threatens to reveal Claire’s drinking. Willa handles the situation in the media but not really in a way that Claire probably would have chosen. And hold on tight for the last few shocking minutes. I don’t want to give away spoilers so all I’ll saw is DON’T MISS THIS SHOW!!! The Family airs SUNDAY,  APRIL  17  (9:00–10:00  p.m.  EDT)  on  the  ABC  Television  Network.

Make sure to view your favorite ABC shows within 3 days of airing (even on your DVR) for your view to count towards the show’s ratings. Want your shows to be picked up for another season, make sure to tune in!!!

The Jungle Book Review #JungleBook

Disclosure- I was invited by Disney to attend this all expense paid press trip but all opinions are 100% my own.

thejunglebook568ece7e1354bThe Jungle Book is now in theaters and I had the opportunity to screen it earlier this week when I was in Los Angeles on the Captain America: Civil War press trip. I loved this new version that features live action, amazingly realistic CG scenery, and photo-real animal characters all blended seamlessly to create an experience for the senses. We watched it in 3D and it felt like being deep in the jungle with all the animals. The Jungle Book is based on the timeless story by Rudyard Kipling and inspired by Disney’s class animated film.
image002 (1)

“The Jungle Book” is an all-new, live-action epic adventure about Mowgli, a man-cub raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan, who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera, and the freespirited bear Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa, a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie, who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

image006This new version of The Jungle Book has all the same characters and storyline as the animated classic but it is somewhat darker with characters like Kaa, Shere Khan, and King Louie all having sinister intentions.  There were a few intense scenes but nothing my 10 and 12 year old couldn’t handle. I think like with all movies you need to know your own children but none of the children in the theater with us seemed bothered by any scenes. There are times where viewers young and old will be on the edge of their seats rooting for Mowgli and hoping for his safety.  There aren’t any scenes where death is shown on screen but there are some intense fight scenes and chase scenes. The movie takes viewers on a wild ride where they become invested in what happens to this young boy. I loved The Jungle Book and can’t wait to take my girls to see it. It is funny, full of adventure, suspense, and just a fun, heartwarming film. If you have the opportunity to see it in 3D I highly recommend it as it will make the experience even more submersive.

The all-star cast includes Bill Murray (“Lost in Translation”) as the voice of Baloo, Ben Kingsley (“Learning to Drive,” “The Walk”) as Bagheera, Idris Elba (“Star Trek Beyond”) as Shere Khan, and Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) as the voice of mother wolf Raksha. ScarleƩ Johansson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron”) gives life to Kaa, Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”) provides the voice of alpha-male wolf Akela, and Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter”) lends his iconic voice to King Louie. Newcomer Neel Sethi stars as the film’s only human character, Mowgli.

image008

Neel Sethi is adorable as Mowgli. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of him on the big screen.

Some fun quotes from The Jungle Book:

Many strange tales are told of this Jungle. But none so strange as the tale of the cub we called Mowgli … –Bagheera

“That’s the Mowgli way. That’s the Baloo way. That’s our way. That’s how we get things done.” —Baloo

Poor, sweet little cub. What are you doing so deep in the Jungle? —Kaa

The elephants created this Jungle … They made all that belongs. The mountains, the trees, the birds in the trees. But they did not make you. That is why you must go. —Bagheera

Because the Jungle is no longer safe for you. You’re being hunted by a tiger. Only Man can protect you now. —Bagheera

A man-cub becomes Man, and Man is forbidden. —Shere Khan

image004 (1) Here’s a video highlighting the voices in the film including Bill Murray (“Baloo”), Sir Ben Kingsley (“Bagheera”), Lupita Nyong’o (“Raksha”), Scarlett Johansson (“Kaa”), Idris Elba (“Shere Khan”), Christopher Walken (“King Louie”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Akela”) and Neel Sethi who plays Mowgli, the only live action character in the film!

Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongsideApril O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.

Disclosure- I was invited by Disney to attend this all expense paid press trip but all opinions are 100% my own.

As you may have already heard, the world premiere of Captain America: Civil War took place Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Normally I just share the official images with my readers but this time I am excited to share my own personal pictures with you, too, as I had the opportunity to walk the red or should I say red and blue carpet. I’ll be posting all about my experience interviewing several of the cast members and a review of the movie (which was AMAZING) but meanwhile here are some official pictures and then my own personal pictures from the night:

I’ve been on several red carpets covering various Disney movies in the past but this was the craziest, most crowded, and most exciting red carpet experience I’ve had. I love how the carpet was divided into red and blue for each side- #TeamIronMan and #TeamCap. I am totally #TeamIronMan. Here are some of my personal pictures from the event:

While waiting in line I got to take a picture with Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie actors Jason Dolley and Bradley Steven Perry. My girls used to watch their show all the time so they think this picture is pretty cool.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.

Kidney Stones can be extremely unpleasant to deal with. But yet it can be something that many people can suffer with. It is more common amongst adults aged between 30 and 60. You tend to be more at risk of developing kidney stones if you don’t drink enough fluids. Also having a condition that causes certain substances in the body to increase can also cause problems.

So what are they?

The are little crystals that develop within your urine. Sometimes these can pass without even being identified or causing you any pain. Other times they can come together to form a hard larger lump that can block the urinary tract or cause other problems.

You are more likely to suffer from these if you don’t drink enough fluids. Drinking plenty of water can have the effect of flushing your body of substances that can cause these problems. If your body has created one of these kidney stones, then the natural reaction for your body is to pass it. This means it travels through your kidneys, the kidney tubes and your bladder. This is where the pain stems from.

What causes them to appear?

It can be a few different reasons. You may not be drinking enough fluid in the day. Your body needs fluid to rid it of bad toxins and substances. Which are then disposed of out of your body through your urine. You may have a medical condition that also increase certain substance types in your body. Of course, these kinds of things can’t be prevented, but you may be aware from your doctor to look out for the signs. There is some excellent information on the internet to advise on the causes of kidney stones with some useful hints and tips to treat them.

How do you treat them?

Most kidney stones are small enough to pass through your system without causing you too much upset or pain. Sometimes they can be that small that they are completely unnoticed. The symptoms you suffer, such as the pain, can be treated at home. Alternatively, if the kidney stones are fairly large, then they may need to be broken down. This can be done through ultrasound and x-rays. There is a possibility that you will have to have surgery to remove them. Unfortunately, once you have suffered from kidney stones, it’s likely you will get them again. This could occur anywhere in the next five years from originally suffering with them.

The main form of treatment would be self-care and medication from your doctor. They can provide you with a strong painkiller while your body naturally allows the kidney stones to pass.

How do you prevent them occurring?

It would all depend on your diet but keeping your body hydrated is one way of preventing kidney stones. Sometimes kidney stones can be developed by a build up of a particular substance. These can be found in certain foods. The best thing to do is to make sure you have a balanced diet and drink plenty of water.
