Prepping For The Big Move – From Apartment To First Home

Any move is a big deal. But there’s one kind that most will agree takes a new level of preparation. A lot of city dwellers are used to hopping from apartment to apartment. They might be surprised when they find that moving into a house of their own takes a good deal more work. But that work doesn’t have to become a stressful nightmare. With the right preparation, you can get things a lot more smoothly. The following guide is going to give you some ideas of how to prepare for the move and what you can expect from moving day and beyond.

Prepare early

Moves are a huge hassle. The way to stop that hassle becoming all too much for you is by taking the initiative. You should be preparing things weeks before the move. This starts with getting things like electric bills and the like set up at the new home and changing your address. Starting to donate what you don’t plan on taking and packing what you don’t need right now. You can get in contact to deduct moving costs from your taxes in some places. Most personal tax prep software programs are well-equipped to handle these types of deductions. The earlier you prepare, the less of a nightmare moving day is going to be.

Leave on good terms

One way to stop yourself from getting a nightmare is by respecting the property you’ve been living in and your landlord. Even if you’re not on the best of terms, you want as much of your deposit back as possible. Between your preparation and moving day, start to go over the apartment and clean as best you can. If you’ve done any damage, now’s the time to fix it with a little DIY. It’s recommended you move a little before your moving day. That way you can come back and finish leaving it spotless once your stuff’s gone.

5778659568_a7b22e4d76_zPicture

Moving day

Now it’s time for the day of the move itself. First thing’s first. Whether you’re getting friends to help you or using moving companies, have things packed up by the time they get there. Otherwise you’ll slow the process down and put the pressure on yourself. Coordinate with whoever’s doing the moving by putting color coded post-its on the boxes. That way you can tell them where they have to go without being asked and taking the time to think about it. Keep things that are being moved closest to the door for convenience, too.

Fixing it up

Moving into your own home is great. But when you get there, don’t find yourself surprised by small or even big problems. Every owned home that isn’t brand new will have history and flaws. They don’t have a landlord that’s been tending to them for new tenants, after all. Understand that this is your property and no-one else’s responsibility. Get prepared for DIY. Getting a new house up to your standards might be a lot of work. But at the end of the day, you’ll be a lot more satisfied that you’ve worked for something you actually own.

A few weeks ago when I was in Los Angeles as part of the Captain America Event, 24 other bloggers and I had the opportunity to interview Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) about their roles in the new movie, Captain America: Civil War which will be in theaters May 6th, 2016. On a side note, the movie was AMAZING. I’ll be posting my review soon so keep an eye out for it. I loved it so much I already bought tickets to see it with my family at an early screening on May 5th. I can’t wait!!! So here’s what we learned from Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen.

In the comics, your character is mostly deaf.  How would feel about them introducing that into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

“I keep hearing about that. It isn’t really played out at this point and not unless we say he’s got an amazing hearing aid or something.” -Jeremy Renner

“Or maybe you get into explosion.” -Elizabeth Olsen

“We were focused much more on the alternate sort version of not the big purple mask sort of guy, you know.  He’s more of the utility sort of guy.  So yeah they talked about that, but I don’t think it’s gonna play anytime.” –Jeremy Renner

“Well, I don’t know.  You could always be blown up somewhere and…”-Elizabeth Olsen

“What? What?” –Jeremy Renner (acting like he can’t hear Elizabeth)

hawkeyeYou reprised your role as Hawkeye for this movie.  Did you need to do any extra training for the bow?  Do you bow hunt?

“I don’t. I didn’t do any extra training. Every time there is a different sort of setup with the bow and what’s happening with the tech stuff.  On this one, the quiver’s different.  Sometimes they could snap out and they put a different tip on the bottom.  This one I really do a full extension. It’s the same gear- different tips.”–Jeremy Renner

nullSo there is a lot of action; there’s a lot of humor in the movie.  Did you guys have improv or was that just something they wrote in?

“The Russo brothers were great.  They’d always have alt lines for certain things and these sort of one-liners, and then they just let you kind of run with a bunch of different things. So I have no idea what makes the cut. You still do alt lines. They just want to have options for tone and then pace and that sort of thing.  That was probably the most fun part of the job- improvising- that was fun.”  –Jeremy Renner

Photo Credit- Coralie Seright from Lovebugs and Postcards

Could you guys tell us a little bit about your stunts and how much was you, and how much was, you know, the stuntmen?

“I think we do as many stunts as we can. A lot of times they take a second crew [stunt doubles] out when we’ve already been wrapped from the movie, when they’re in Germany, and they might do stuff then.  But when we’re there, we do everything. I need to get better at wirework, I think, for the next one. And flying.” – Elizabeth Olsen

“It’s almost just practical stuff.  I don’t do the CGI stuff. It happens outside the arrows. I fire an arrow because it’s gotta go somewhere, right?  [LAUGHS] You know, into the cameraman.  [AUDIENCE LAUGHS] But I’ll do ninety-nine percent of the script. This is fun- if I couldn’t, then this would be a boring job. There’s one flip I couldn’t do it, so my stunt double did.”–Jeremy Renner

scarlet witchWhat inspired to do the role of the Scarlet Witch?

“A few things.  I was already a fan of Ironman and Avengers. Then I started reading more about Scarlet Witch’s journey, and I found the fact that her mind is the only thing that limits her and the ever possibility of this kind of insanity and being able to manipulate reality- that it even throws- that she can manipulate her own reality, those kinds of things, to me, really cool. I didn’t know when they would come into play or if they will, and I still hope we play around more with that part of her.  But I just think she’s a really cool character and it’s a lot of opportunity for storytelling.” – Elizabeth Olsen

nullWas ever any real-life tension between the actors?

“No, it’s a lot of laughing. There’s a lot of jokes and a lot of inappropriate humor. Yeah, everyone’s got a good attitude about it when we’re doing. I mean Paul Bettany who is in such an uncomfortable costume and he’s sweating through these prosthetics, and he can’t take them off, and he’s so miserable, and he is still one of the funniest people on set.  I think everyone just has a good attitude.  If we complain, we complain and laugh about it and move on because you can’t complain about it.  It’s a really awesome job.  And I think we all recognize that.”- Elizabeth Olsen

THE CATCH - ABC's "The Catch" stars Elvy Yost as Sophie, Jay Hayden as Danny, Rose Rollins as Valerie, Peter Krause as Benjamin, Mireille Enos as Alice, Jackie Ido as Jules, Alimi Ballard as Reggie and Sonya Walger as Margot. (ABC/Craig Sjodin)

The Catch is one of my favorite shows this season so I was beyond excited when I was invited to Los Angeles with 24 other bloggers to tour the set and meet Costume Designer Peggy Schnitzer(@anitaoctober). If you haven’t seen The Catch you’re missing out. But don’t worry, you can CATCH it on ABC.com. It is deliciously addictive with its exciting game of cat and mouse and a perfect addition to ABC’s Thursday night TGIT lineup at 10 PM EST.

Wondering what the show is about? Check it out:

Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos) is LA’s top private investigator — and the one woman you don’t want to mess with.  But when her fiancé, Benjamin Jones (Peter Krause), cons her out of millions and disappears, Alice goes on a private mission for payback.  No matter where it leads or the secrets she must keep along the way, Alice will stop at nothing to catch her man.

Anderson/Vaughan Investigations is one of the leading private investigation and security firms in the country and was built from the ground up by Alice and her best friend and business partner, Valerie Anderson (Rose Rollins). Their elite team of private investigators includes associates Danny Yoon (Jay Hayden), whose mischievous and irreverent nature allows them to break the law when necessary to solve a case, and their newest member, Sophie Novak (Elvy Yost), who serves as their in-house counsel and brilliant hacker. While their firm continues to investigate some of the most elaborate crimes around the world, Alice is on a personal mission to beat her former fiancé at his own game. However, she is not the only one chasing Ben. FBI Agent Jules Dao (Jacky Ido) has been following his criminal activity across Europe and now is closer than ever to capturing him. Agent Dao hopes to elicit Alice’s help in taking Ben and his team down. Meanwhile, the elusive Ben has slipped back into the dangerous and sexy world of international crime. Alongside his long-time partners, mastermind Margot Bishop (Sonya Walker) and Reggie Lennox (Alimi Ballard), they stealthily move from con to con, targeting only high-end jobs with multi-million dollar payouts. With stakes this high, you can’t make one misstep; but Ben does exactly that when this world-class conman gets too close to his mark, Alice. Undeniably drawn to one another, both Alice and Ben are playing with fire, and as Alice continues to hunt him down, it quickly becomes an intoxicating game of cat and mouse.

12063339_10107968048538674_978075108762470273_nMireille Enos (as Alice Vaughan) and Peter Krause (as Benjamin Jones) have such great chemistry together. I know they shouldn’t be together and yet I secretly hope they end up with each other. And I just have to mention how much I LOVE Mireille’s voice. It is so velvety and seductive. I love how there are several stories going on at one time in each episode. Of course you have the ongoing story of the cat and mouse chase between Alice and Benjamin but you also have the story lines of the various cases that Alice and her team are working on. I just can’t say enough good things about this show. I’m hooked!

clothesWhen we arrived in the wardrobe area of The Catch the first thing I saw was LOTS and LOTS of beautiful clothes. I am fashion challenged but I loved seeing all of the gorgeous dresses, jackets, outfits, and accessories that were in the room. The racks were arranged by character and separated by male actors and female actresses. Plus the costume design department has to outfit every extra actor as well so in a crowd scene they might have to outfit a hundred different extras. That’s a lot of clothes! I watched last Thursday night’s episode and there was a large, elegant party scene and I just kept on thinking how many dresses and suits the wardrobe department had to figure out for that scene.

carlos and peggy

Costume Designer Peggy Schnitzer showed us some of the outfits that the cast had already worn on the show and it was exciting to recognize some of the pieces, especially the elegant wedding dress that Alice tried on in the pilot episode. It is a one of a kind dress that was custom made just for the show by the show’s tailor, Carlos Zepeda. You can see Carlos with the dress pictured above and he’s going to be making a cameo appearance in the season finale so keep an eye out for him.

If only this dress was in my size! It was stunning in person and I just had to get a picture to share with my readers.dress

Curious about what goes behind the scenes in getting all of these characters outfitted? Here are some things we learned.

“I wanted her [Mireille ] to be sleek, she has an amazing body.  Strong but feminine.  I’m very lucky because in a lot of shows they don’t let you use a lot of black clothes.  And here they do because their business AVI is all glass and white.  So it’s great to have darker shapes and people going through so you can see them.  We can’t do like a lot of lights and beiges. We do the occasional white dress but then surround it. It depends on what everyone else is wearing.  But usually I try and do it around what Mireille and Rose are wearing, everyone else around them.  Because it’s usually focusing on them in that environment. I think for each character I just sort of look at them and the written word about the character, I follow suit.

And Margot pretty much wears very sculpted body conscious. She’s a little more playful but still professional. I’ve really tried to make it so it’s feminine but professional not too power suit-y for her.

Peter pretty much wears a uniform. Dark suits mostly white shirts, which were all made for him, you can see his little initials in there (Peggy showed us the initials) or dark shirts.  We just thought that sort of was something that you could identify with him. He pretty much is the consistency in the crazy inconsistency of everything else.  [But] when they do cons, they tend to get dressed for different situations.”~Peggy Schnitzer

When you have to pick out the wardrobe before you even have the script for that episode, how do you do that?

“We do what it’s called closets. In the very beginning when you get the character and you get the pilot or the script, you start buying a lot of clothes like in anyone’s closet.  You would get a certain amount of dresses, certain amount of skirts, jeans, things that they would wear while you’re shooting so I don’t have to fit them every week. I don’t always know what’s happening and hopefully the clothes that you buy, you’re spot on and you can use them. Then sometimes things come up [and] I don’t have a dress for that.  What are we going to do?  And then there’s things that we might never use because it just isn’t going to work.

Their daily clothes, a lot of times I like to reuse clothes. I feel like if you reuse things it’s like, oh yeah, she wore that again, which is a good thing. I think it’s realistic. She is a working woman in this with a business and she can look great and fantastic, but once in a while she’s going to have to go back to her closet and wear the same thing. [Regular people don’t] have thirty thousand jackets.”  ~Peggy Schnitzer

20160411_115748One thing that I found really interesting is just how much attention to detail is given to make sure that the show remains consistent in each take so the final product is seamless. They take a picture of each actor in each outfit to document exactly how they wore it- which buttons were buttoned, were the sleeves rolled, what jewelry did they wear, etc. It is also all written down in a binder so they can refer back to it. They document everything so for example if Ben’s shirt is unbuttoned the top 2 buttons, he won’t accidentally have it only unbuttoned one button in the next scene. Or if Alice walks into her office and puts her jacket on her chair, they write that down so in the next scene the jacket will still be on the chair and she doesn’t accidentally have her jacket on again.

envelopeAfter we checked out the wardrobe department we walked over to the set to check out Alice’s house and then her office. Again great care is taken to make sure every detail is perfect. Notice how the envelope above is addressed to Alice Vaughan.
house1

Alice’s whole house had all sorts of props to make it look real, from sunglasses on the kitchen table to makeup on the vanity.house2 Such a beautiful  house! I love how the backdrop makes it look like a real city in the background.house3

Just past the pretty patio set you could see all the production lights and other hardware they use to make the show and you realize it’s a fake balcony. house4I would LOVE to have Alice’s closet. We noticed that there were men’s clothes in it and asked if that was a clue that Ben would be moving back in but alas we were told that they were just using that closet for storage and it wasn’t a clue. A girl can dream, right?

painting

And then there’s the Maria Kreyn painting that was such a big part of the first episode. So pretty! I had to take a picture with it. Can you see how the wall was open where I was standing and you could walk off the set to a back area. Everything looks so real and then you see the opening and realize it’s just a set.office

The Anderson Vaughan Investigations office was bright and beautiful. Again such attention to detail. The folders all said Anderson Vaughan Investigations and Alice’s notepad had her name on it. I hope she doesn’t mind that I borrowed her desk.

We also got to meet the lovely Rose Rollins who plays Alice’s partner Valerie Anderson.rose rollins

Tonight’s episode is titled “The Benfactor”. Here’s the synopsis for this episode. I can’t wait to watch!

“The  Benefactor”  —  The  AVI  team  takes  on  a  new  client,  a  female  captain  in  the  army,  who  is  being   harassed  by  her  colleagues.  Meanwhile,  Alice  makes  a  play  on  Ben  that  could  put  her  in  some  very   serious  danger,  and  both  Ben  and  Margot  are  shocked  when  an  old  friend  comes  to  town,  on  “The   Catch,”  THURSDAY,  APRIL  28  (10:00-‐‑11:00  p.m.  EDT),  on  the  ABC  Television  Network.

Not only is it a great workout and an effective weight loss program, but martial art classes uses many techniques and skills to help individuals reduce stress and lower tension levels.Stress can result from different events in a person’s life; lack of self confidence, bad day a work, financial worries, fears over personal safety, general health concerns, problems at home and maybe a combination of many more factors . Compared to any other sport, psychologists have found when training in a traditional martial art you will notice lower levels of aggression and higher levels of self-esteem and positivity. With the help of efficient martial art training sessions, we can sharpen our decision-making capacities, overcome our fears by dominating the associated aspects, establish true focus, project self-confidence and enhance self-management skills greatly in order to build your coping mechanisms against stress

When people tell you to breathe while working out, we often forget that it’s actually important to really breathe, and that means inhaling though your nose and then exhaling through the mouth for about 4 seconds each. This is done through breath counting that is a form of meditation because your stress affects the state of the mind. Breathing brings about a connection with the body and mind, and by performing a simple breathing technique allows you to gain control of it. The body connects to the mind when during inhalation and exhalation; there is a form of energy known as “chi” which is being allowed to complete a path of circulation through your whole body.

KEEP CALM AND FOCUS
Reactions in martial arts entail focus to make immediate alert decisions against an opponent. The techniques you learn will improve the blood flow and oxygen around your body which will create a sense of well being physically and mentally. A calm mind is a key factor to manage stress, and learning to control your thoughts when planning your next move in a fight requires 100% focus.

ELIMINATE FEAR
The sense of empowerment driven from starting your first class, to mastering a technique and the possibility of becoming a strong competitor builds self confidence.Martial art training is considered as one of the most effective ways for boosting our confidence level and self-esteem, which means eliminating all fear and anxiety as you learn how to take action sensibly. Over time with endurance and regular practices, you will be able to achieve better posture as well as stronger movements.

THE BOTTOM LINE

5 Improvement to Make Your Home More Comfortable & Functional

photo-1455300324287-740d0beaaf29[Image]

Interior design often focuses on aesthetics. The emphasis is on style and physical appearance. This is, of course, important. However, it is easy to forget function and comfort when making design choices for your home. Have you ever bought a beautiful sofa that you fell in love with at the store, only to find it hard and uncomfortable when it was in your house?

Making the following improvements will update your home in terms of style and function. But above all, they will provide a comfortable environment for the whole family.

1. The Basics – Heat

To create a comfortable home, it is important to get the basics right. This means providing the right environment for your family. Part of this involves controlling the temperature. In the winter months, you need to ensure that everyone is warm enough. And in the summer months, it’s about keeping cool in the heat.

Ensure you have the right heating and air conditioning system in places. For examples, see Harsters Heating & Air Conditioning and other companies.

When choosing your air conditioner consider energy efficiency, size, timer options and easy cleaning. Energy efficiency is also important in your heating system. Ensure that all boilers and units adhere to codes and are serviced regularly.

Other ways to keep your home cool in the summer:

  • Keep your curtains and blinds closed
  • Use cotton sheets and bedding
  • Set your ceiling fan to rotate counter-clockwise
  • Use extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen
  • Open your windows at night if it is safe to do so
  • Cook outside as much as possible

Keeping your home warm in the winter:

  • Close your curtains in the evening to contain the heat
  • Move furniture away from radiators
  • Keep the bathroom door open after a bath or shower to let the heat escape to other rooms
  • Block drafts from doors and windows
  • Place tin foil behind the radiators to reflect heat back into the room
  • Add thicker bedding and layers

2. Light

Light can be another source of comfort or discomfort for your family. Get it right and they won’t even notice it. The aim is to ensure that your house or apartment is adequately lit. If you have smaller rooms, allow in as much natural daylight as possible. Don’t block it with blinds and curtains. Open them fully to let the light in.

Your lighting requirements will vary from room to room, depending on how you spend time there. The bedroom is mainly for sleeping, and so soft lighting is usually preferable. Bedside lamps are great if you read in bed and for if you get up in the night. Ensure your lighting is adequate for getting dressed in the morning.

The light in the bathroom tends to focus on the mirror. You may need this for shaving and putting on makeup. Overhead and side lights will provide you with even coverage.

In the kitchen, many homes install overhead lights and unit lights to enable you to prepare and cook food. While in the den, lighting focused around furniture will allow for comfortable reading.

Don’t forget the exterior of your home. Ensure paving and walkways are adequately lit for when you arrive home after dark. Safety lights are also a good idea and can be set to switch on based on motion.

photo-1422479278902-8cef24992df0[Image]

3. Cleaning

A clean home will provide you with a pleasant and safe environment. Set up a rota and clean your home each week. Deep clean on a regular basis. This will eliminate unpleasant smells and will allow your home to function efficiently.

As you’re cleaning, tidy each room and rid it of clutter. Apart from decorative items, only keep items on surfaces that are regularly used. Put everything else away. When it comes to ornaments and pictures, try not to fill every available space.

Don’t cram items into drawers and cupboards and forget about them. Go through all of your storage and ensure everything is organized neatly. If there’s anything you’re no longer using, throw it away, recycle or give it away. Use storage boxes and drawer dividers to organize your possessions. This will make it easier to locate items when they’re needed. No more dragging out half the drawer to find a rogue sock.

photo-1460533893735-45cea2212645[Image]

4. Furniture and Furnishings

Choose your furniture wisely. Don’t skimp on quality to save a little money. In most cases, you get what you pay for. Cheap furniture is unlikely to last, requiring you to replace it after a short period. It is also likely to be poorly made and provide little comfort

Think about all the places your family sits in the home. This includes the sofa, armchairs, dining room chairs, etc. Think about where they spend the most time and focus on those areas. Think about the comfort value of furniture, as well as their aesthetic appeal. Add cushions to provide more support. When you purchase dining room chairs, think about seat pads. If your family sits through long meals, they will welcome the extra padding.

One of the most important places in terms of comfort and support is the bed. Choosing the right bed for each family member will allow them to get a good night’s sleep and keep them healthy. Sleep impacts on all aspects of our lives, including our physical and mental health.

photo-1460461499329-f6b87a045649[Image]

5. The Little Things

Often it’s the little things you bring to your house or apartment that creates a home. These are the things that are often noticed and commented upon. For examples, cushions and seat pads, as mentioned earlier. Other little touches can also make a difference, such as providing blankets and throws during the winter months.

If a member of the family reads in an armchair, consider providing a lamp that can be adjusted to provide adequate lighting for them.

Make it easy for everyone to locate their possessions. Keys often go astray. Put up hooks for each member of the family. Provide charging stations where everyone can plug in their laptops and phones.

Create an ambient mood by investing in dimmer switches and lighting candles. Provide a radio where the family congregates to provide music. Or set up speakers where you can plug phones and MP3s.

Add color and scent with fresh flowers. Or add oil burners or other room fragrance.

When you get it right, your family won’t even notice these additions. It’s usually when something goes wrong that brings it to their attention. For example, it’s too hot or too cold. Or they can’t see to read etc. Start with the basics and then introduce other improvements. And remember, when making design decisions, focus on function as well as style.

3 Simple Ways To Boost Your Health This Spring

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

When spring arrives, many of us start thinking about ways we can live a healthier lifestyle and get in shape. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here are three easy ways to boost your health and happiness this spring.

  1. Get fit

If you shy away from exercise, or you’re a self-confessed couch potato, spring is an ideal time to embrace your inner gym bunny. Many of us associate exercise with losing weight and toning up, but there are so many other benefits to enjoy. Working out on a regular basis reduces your risk of heart disease, strokes and some forms of cancer. It can also help to decrease stress and improve the quality of your sleep. For many, exercise is also a great way of challenging yourself and meeting new people. If you’re not keen on the idea of joining a gym, there are plenty of other ways you can get a good workout. Join a local team or a running club. Take your dog for a walk twice a day, or sign up for a dance class. Get out into the great outdoors and hike, climb or cycle. You may struggle at first, but your fitness will improve in no time.

2. Follow a healthy eating plan

A healthy, balanced diet is essential for good health. Making a few simple changes and sticking to them can have amazing benefits for your health and wellbeing. Ask your doctor or search online for healthy eating plans. Replace processed, ready-made foods with home-cooked meals, and always aim to hit your 5-a-day target. Try and increase your intake of whole grain foods, such as brown bread, rice, and pasta. Take a look at the way you prepare and cook your food. You can create healthy meals without losing out on taste by swapping frying with oil or butter for air frying, for example. Search for air fryer reviews and simple low-calorie recipes online. Keep an eye on your fat and sugar intake. If you consume too  much sugar, try some simple sugar swaps. Replace fizzy drinks with water or sugar-free cordial. Add honey to your tea instead of sugar lumps, or use berries to sweeten your porridge.

3. Get to bed earlier

How often do you feel tired? If the answer is all the time, it’s a good idea to change your sleep routine and boost your energy levels. Start going to bed earlier and make sure you get enough sleep. At first, you may find that it takes you a little while to drop off. But your body will soon adjust to your new regime. Good quality sleep sets you up for the day and ensures you wake up in the morning with a positive outlook. If you have difficulty sleeping, try addressing potential obstacles, such as noise and light. If you’ve tried every trick in the book and you still struggle with insomnia, seek advice from your doctor.

As you have probably already read, I was invited to be a part of the Captain America: Civil War press event in Los Angeles. While I might have chosen to be on Team Iron Man, I was really excited when I found out that we would be interviewing Captain America himself, Chris Evans. I have lots to tell you about this interview but I’d bet I could just show you all the pictures of Chris Evans and no one would mind if there weren’t any words to go with it. But in all seriousness, our interview with Chris began when he surprised us and came into the room while we were still interviewing Paul Bettany aka The Vision and the voice of Jarvis. We could tell instantly that these two men were excited to see each other as filming has been over for months and it’s been a while since they’ve seen each other.

You could feel the adoration between these two cast mates.

Chris and Paul were so funny and were cracking us up. I have to say that Chris is different from his goody two shoes, “vanilla” Captain America persona. He is hysterical and not as uptight as his character. He left us in stitches but that’s all I can say about that. It’s kind of like Vegas. 😉 LOL

You can see they were cracking each other up, too!

Keep an eye out for my interview post on Paul Bettany next week. Meanwhile, this post is about the most patriotic super hero, Captain America aka Chris Evans. I think he was having a little too much fun playing with the toy versions of himself we had on the table. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have a toy version made of yourself.

Are there lots of pranks on set?

“Everyone wants there to be pranks and it’s not so much pranks as it’s just a camaraderie. When you’re on set, you’re a little tired, to be honest. You really are there to work. Certain movies I’ve done [like] comedies, everyone is a little more loose.  On these movies there are people who are really there to work and so you don’t want to diminish their experience or disrespect their process.  So for the most part on set, you’re tame, but we still have fun. Days when it’s just me and Paul, we’re giggling a lot more. Certain actors really are austere in their approach and you really want to respect that.  Off set is where the real disaster happens.”
Oh how I would love to get into some pranks and camaraderie with the cast. Do you think there could be a part for me?

How does it feel to put the Captain America uniform back on?

“I feel good now. I didn’t in the beginning.  In the beginning it was terrifying. When I began the [first Captain America] movie it was just like [I would think about] all the things that could go wrong and how this could be a mistake. Over the course of five or six movies now, it feels great.  It really does. The Russo Brothers and Marvel and everyone has made it such a wonderful environment. And they’ve proven themselves time and time again to be great filmmakers. Now, it’s like a point of pride when you see the suit, you’re excited to get the suit on and you’re very honored and humbled that you get to have some sort of a connection to it, because it is bigger than you. Captain America will live on, there will be other Captain Americas.  It will live on a lot longer than I will.  So it’s just nice to kind of have a little place in its lineage.”
I agree with you, Chris. The Russo Brothers are great filmmakers. We interviewed them, too, and I’ll be posting about that interview soon.

If you could go back in time and have dinner or a conversation with someone from history, who would it be with?

“Dinner or a conversation with someone from history?  Um, that’s tough.  I might say someone like, Gandhi, I might say someone like Lincoln. I think maybe for me someone like JFK. I really do think politics is an amazing landscape. I think it’s a really tricky thing to try and go into to be a politician, even being an actor.  Imagine being a politician, where you have to back everything you say.

You have to be able to be real, you have to be honest, you can’t be so political.  You have to just be a plain speaking human.  And I think where politics struggles is when politicians become too political.  I think JFK was one of the last guys that felt to me like he’s speaking like a human and it feels like a man talking.  And he was tackling enormous issues of the time.  The country needed so much and he kind of had to marry so many difficult challenges.  To me he is one of the most interesting characters that I can think of. I’ll say JFK.”
I agree! JFK would be a pretty interesting dinner guest!

Growing up who was your favorite superhero?

“I didn’t have one. I had an older sister.  It’s funny like that’s what I want when I have kids. I’d love for my oldest child to be a girl, because I think it softens up the boy. We had a girl, me, and my younger brother.  Whatever Carly wanted to do, we did.  So My Little Pony and Care Bear that was it. Just being in Carly’s room was a big deal. Like just being in Carly room, you’re like don’t mess it up. Just sit here whatever she gives us to play with, that’s what we’re playing with.  And she’d give us the fuzzy My Little Ponies, the plastic ones that gave me willies. You know what I mean.  It was My Little Ponies, Cabbage Patch, Care Bears.  I wasn’t cool enough to…I didn’t have a brother being like, GI Joe. I was a lot softer than that.

So comic books were not on my radar. I liked Star Wars, which was maybe the coolest thing about me, but that was my dad being like please, please like Han Solo and I was like, but Tender Heart Bear. It’s not untrue, it’s really sad.”
Awwww, Chris liked My Little Pony and Care Bears, too!

What were your thoughts when Marvel threatened to boycott Georgia if they passed the Anti-Gay bill?

“It was great. I really I thought that was great.  My younger brother is gay and he was the one sending me these text messages being like good for Disney. It was just a nice thing to read about. Disney spends huge money in Georgia and I’m proud of them.  I was so proud of Disney for standing up to that.  Making a statement and saying listen, this is what we feel, this is what we believe in. It’s a hate bill that they were trying to pass. I was proud of Disney and I was glad it happened. I was glad it worked out.  And there are still some states that are messing up.  But I was proud to be a part of the Disney family during that.”
I couldn’t agree with you more, Chris!

Of all of the pictures of Chris Evans, I think this one is my favorite. It really captures our experience with him.

Disclosure- I was invited by Disney to attend this all expense paid press trip but all opinions are 100% my own. image002 (2) Disney is rebooting the 80’s classic, Adventures in Babysitting, for a new generation. The new 2016 version stars Disney sweethearts Sofia Carson (The Descendants) and Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World). Yes double the babysitters and double the fun. In preparation for this press trip I watched the original Adventures in Babysitting because it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. I started to watch it with my girls but then realized that is was more inappropriate for my girls than I had remembered so I ended up watching it alone. I was so pleased to screen the new version and it is totally family friendly and I know my girls are going to love it. This new movie has good messages for girls about friendship, responsibility, and being yourself. I had the opportunity to interview Sofia Carson and Sabrina Carpenter about the movie and I’ll be sharing all that with you in another post as we get closer to June 24th when The Disney Channel will be airing Adventures in Babysitting.

ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING - "Adventures in Babysitting," inspired by the hugely popular 1980s film of the same name, is an upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie starring Sabrina Carpenter (of Disney Channel's hit comedy series "Girl Meets World") and Sofia Carson (of the hit Disney Channel Original Movie "Descendants"). In "Adventures in Babysitting," a dull evening for two competing babysitters, Jenny (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola (Sofia Carson), turns into an adventure in the big city as they hunt for one of the kids who somehow snuck away. The Disney Channel Original Movie will premiere summer 2016. “Adventures in Babysitting,” unfolds when Jenny Parker (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola Perez (Sofia Carson), two teen girls with distinctly different personalities, each  interview for a coveted photography internship and accidently swap phones.  When the Anderson family calls Jenny’s phone looking for a last-minute babysitter, audacious Lola, in need of some extra cash, picks up and nominates herself.  Meanwhile, dependable Jenny is already set to babysit the Cooper family for the evening. Unfortunately, Lola’s first attempt at babysitting takes an unforeseen turn when one of the Anderson kids sneaks out to go to a concert. Jenny, determined to protect her reputation, and Lola with the remaining kids in tow, head out and have the adventure of a lifetime during one magical night in the big city.

Amazing Places Around The World To Own A Home

When you’re thinking about taking a vacation, you often worry about the cost of the accommodation while you are there. Lots of us try to avoid the big expenses of travel, like luxuries, fancy restaurants, or costly flights. But we would all love a chance to take a few more vacations each year. Did you know that some countries around the world have lower property prices than right here in the States? That means you may be better off buying a holiday home than paying for hotels. Here are 3 of the more interesting places you might invest:

India

India is a vibrant place and offers a cultural experience like no other. There are some truly incredible sights in India. Yet few of us get to see them. One of the most cosmopolitan areas is the city of Bengaluru. It is also known as Bangalore and boasts an amazing nightlife and plenty of green spaces. Properties in Bangalore are becoming more desirable as tourists keep flocking here.

Perhaps the biggest spectacle is the Royal residences in the city. Bengaluru is quite a beautiful city, and caters for many different tastes, not just the Royalty! It’s a lovely place for families as well as those who like to travel a lot. The weather is great most of the time too, so you can all enjoy the outdoors.

Ireland

Ireland really is as green as they say it is. It’s a beautiful place to travel to and explore with the kids. Surprisingly, when you’re outside of Dublin and the other populated areas, property is cheap. And the views from your window can be spectacular. There are mountains, lakes and castles to enjoy. You could buy an entire farm or just a little cottage. It doesn’t matter because all of that beauty is there all the time.

Everybody in Ireland speaks English but there are some places where you may hear a lot more of the local dialect. Local traditions are very important here too, but there’s nothing stopping you and the family getting involved. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, and incredible sights to see while you are here. But having a property of your own means you can enjoy it all as often as you like.

Germany

Germany is one of the cleanest, healthiest and cheapest places to visit in Europe. The houses are quite big and laid out a lot like American ones are. Best of all, Germany is an ideal gateway to many other mainland European countries. This makes it a great place to buy a property for a vacation. With the whole nation being so family oriented, you can be sure of a great time for the kids too.

Our little planet really does have so much more to offer than what is on our doorstep. Travelling can be good fun. And when you have kids, taking a vacation overseas can be enriching as well as exciting. If you have a favorite country in mind, why not take a look to see if you could buy a property there?

The Best Gifts For An Obsessive Traveler

When it comes to birthdays and Christmases, it’s always difficult to figure out what to buy. It’s not easy to buy for the travelers, who always get gifts based on their love of exploring the world. It’s never easy to know what to get them, but there are a few good ideas out there. Here are the best gifts you can buy for an obsessive traveler!

road-sunset-desert-travellingBy Pexels

Travel Journals

A really cheap and good way to keep a traveler happy is to load them with journals and stationery. Travelers relish the idea of creating memories and experiencing amazing things above all else. Journals give them a way of recording their thoughts and memories to look back on in the future. Also, they can use journals as a way of remembering all the places they’ve managed to visit, and give them ideas for where they plan to go in the future.

Books

There’s always downtime when travelling, especially when sitting on a plane or waiting for a bus. Books are a great way of killing time, so buy something travel-related. Go for a fantastic real-life story that will not only motivate them but engage them too. Alternatively, you might just want to buy them a Kindle voucher so they can pick a choice themselves for their device.

Clothing

By now, you probably have a good idea of where they’re planning to visit next. For example, if they’re going to visit a particularly hot country, buy them some clothing to suit! Ask friends and family about what clothing they might be in need of. From a winter jacket to a pair of swim shorts, everything will be greatly received as the financial difficulties of travelling begin to set in.

Activities For An Upcoming Holiday

If you have an even better idea of where they’re about to set off to, you could make their trip even more exciting! It’s possible to buy tickets to famous landmarks and attractions in the area online, which makes for a great present! Also, if they prefer to explore rather than stick in one area, you could buy them a tour. In Australia, you can discover the Great Ocean Road with a tour and similar experiences can be found all over the world.

Days Out

One of the growing attractions for many gift buyers is the idea of gifting days out.  Amazon and Groupon are two of the most famous outlets for selling this sort of thing in the past. They’re fairly cheap, and they often incorporate thrilling experiences. Sometimes, they even include hotel accommodation in the price. If this person seems more interested in visiting the local soccer stadium than touring the world, this is probably your best option.

When you think about it, buying gifts for an obsessed traveller isn’t all that hard. There are all sorts of tailored options out there to make the decision much easier. Try and find out a bit more information in advance from people who know them to give you the best idea of what to buy. Whatever you go for; I’m sure they’ll be very happy with your choice!
