Learn how a trio of lush potted plants will have you saying good-bye to bug spray!
Outdoor entertaining is one of the great joys of spring and summer. Until, of course, the bugs invade. In place of spray and pesticides, try a cluster of mosquito-repelling potted plants. Grouped together near a seating area on your deck or patio, they make a pretty and lush addition to your outdoor landscape while also protecting you and your guests. Check out One Kings Lane’s article Easy Update: Mosquito-Repelling Potagerie for more information about how a trio of lush potted plants will have you saying good-bye to bug spray.

Cori's Cozy Corner

  1. I was a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher before I had my children.  I loved teaching but hated the paperwork and other stuff that went along with teaching.
  2. When I was a toddler I got a fish bone stuck in my throat and I had to have a specialist in the ER remove it.
  3. I have 1 tattoo.  It is on my shoulder and it is a heart with the Japanese symbol for teacher inside.  I want to get another one to symbolize my children but I haven’t decided what or where yet.

  4. It’s a horrible habit but I bite my nails.  Even when I try to stop biting my nails, they are so weak and they break.  I like wearing acrylic nails because I hate the way my chewed nails look.
  5. I still sleep with a bear that I’ve had since childhood.  It’s more about putting my arm around something than the bear itself though so I can use a pillow to hug instead.
  6. I have fibromyalgia so I am tired and achy a lot.  It took a long time to be diagnosed but once I was, it was such a relief to know that I wasn’t crazy!
  7. I love sushi!  One of my goals on my bucket list is to learn how to make it at home.

  8. I was on Judge Judy.  I sued an ex who owed me money.  She shushed me once but I won my case!
  9. I love popcorn.  I could totally pass up a dessert but put popcorn in front of me and it will be gone.

Handy Uses For Contact Lens Cases

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

I LOVE contact lens cases.  They are so inexpensive, you can buy multiples in a package, and there are so many things you can store in them.  One of my favorite things to put into a contact lens case is homemade lip gloss or lip scrub.  I plan on writing up a post with that recipe soon so keep an eye out.
I purchased a package of contact lens cases last week to store essential oils in.  I like to mix essential oils them with a carrier oil to help make the oils last longer and massage in easier.  I didn’t want to use up a lot of each essential oil and carrier oil so I figured mixing a few drops of the essential oil with some carrier oil (olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, etc.) in a contact lens case would be perfect.  It’s just the right amount for a few uses when I am using the oils.  This way I don’t have to dilute too much of the essential oil at one time.  I’ll be posting more on essential oils soon.  I swear by them!
I am going to BlogHer (a blogger convention) this week and I will be gone for 3 nights.  As I began to pack I looked over at the package of contact lens cases that I hadn’t used yet and inspiration hit me.  Instead of traveling with the bottles of each cream, lotion, primer, etc. that I use on my face, why not just put some of each facial lotion, etc. in compartment of a contact lens case?  Genius if I do say so myself!  Of course for body lotion I would need a bigger container but since I just use a little bit of my day cream, night cream, primer, and Aquaphor, this is perfect and takes up so much less space!
contact case lotionsI plan on adding more idea to this post but I wanted to get it up before BlogHer to help anyone else traveling this week.  Have an idea on something to store in a contact lens case?  Comment below!

A few notes:

  • I always wash and dry the cases before I use them.
  • I prefer the cases that have screw-on lids but this batch hubby bought.  I am putting it inside a snack size baggie just in case it leaks because of the style of cap on them but they seem pretty tight.

blog conference tips

Goal For BlogHer13-
Last year I attended my very first Blogger Conference, BlogHer12, in NYC.  I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I am a total Type-A planner and thought I had pretty well planned for everything- the parties, the sessions, what to do if I got a blister (I brought 4 different products to prevent and treat blisters), and much more.  I even brought a luggage scale with me to make sure that my suitcases full of swag weren’t too heavy for the airline limits.  Speaking of swag, I had packed all my clothes, toiletries, etc. in my carry-on bag and checked one big empty suitcase inside another empty suitcase so I would have plenty of room to bring back swag.  I had a great time at BlogHer12, passed out my business cards to tons of PR reps, other bloggers, etc., but I don’t think I really made that many meaningful connections.  That was the main thing that I didn’t plan for.  I rushed from party to party but was too nervous to really talk to many people.  I didn’t know what to say.  I was a newbie and it was all so overwhelming.  I made the mistake of clinging onto whatever friend I happened to have with me at each party.  I will not make the same mistake this year.  I am still shy and nervous, but I do have some questions in mind to ask PR reps, I have my “elevator pitch” ready.  I am going to do my best to start conversations and get out of my comfort zone to make connections.  That is my goal for BlogHer13.  So if you see me, come talk to me!
BlogHer '13

SWAG-
I will admit that I had SWAG on the brain last year.  There was just so much of it.  It was just so easy to get swept up in the excitement of getting things for free.  Heck, there were even free “personal massagers” from Trojan!  I filled both empty suitcases with swag and had to leave a ton of stuff in the Swag Trade Room and in the hotel room for housekeeping.  This year I plan to be much more selective and only take what my family or I will really use.  Free stuff is great, but that is not the point of my trip this year.

Attire-
Last year I bought a bunch of new skirts and dresses (totally not me) and that is what I wore to the evening parties.  I was sweaty and uncomfortable.  Skirts and dresses are not me.  I am a jeans and t-shirts type of girl.  This year I am bringing jeans, pants, t-shirts (for during the day), and nice dressier shirts for at night.  I am going to be comfortable.  (Note~ You will see everything from cocktail dresses to jeans and t-shirts at the same party so be comfortable, be yourself!)
Here are some possible looks that I will be rockin’ at BlogHer.  I won’t be deciding until I start packing but it will be from these outfits:
BlogHer Looks
Comfort-
In addition to bringing comfortable clothes and shoes, I am going to try to not over do it.  I have fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, and plantar fasciitis.  I am exhausted and achy most of the time and I have to remember that I can’t do it all.  Nothing is worth how bad I will feel if I push my body too far.  So I plan on doing what I can and listening to my body.  If my body tells me enough is enough, then goodnight Gracie, it will be time to call it a night.

Tips For Newbies-

  • Check the expiration dates on all the coupons and offers you receive at Expo and the private parties.  Some expired soon after BlogHer last year.
  • Bring a portable charger for your cellphone.  This is the one I bought last year and it was only $29.  I’m bringing TWO this year.  They were a lifesaver last year.
  • Bring a travel surge protector.  If you are sharing a room with roommates, you’ll probably need the extra outlet space and a travel surge protector will protect your important electronics such as your laptop, iPad, etc.
  • Bring a travel scale to weight your suitcases BEFORE you leave the hotel so you will be able to make sure that they are not overweight for your airline.
  • Make sure to bring comfortable shoes that you have already broken in and bring blister block to prevent blisters and moleskin in case you do get blisters.
  • If you plan on bringing home a lot of swag, pack an empty suitcase inside of a suitcase to have extra room.  Just make sure you know how much your airline charges per bag or make arrangements to ship your swag back.
  • Have a holder for your business cards and a separate place to keep business cards you get from others.  Keep a pen with you to take notes on the cards of others to remember who they are, what you talked about, etc.  Try to do that as soon as possible to jog your memory later.

I’ll be adding more tips as I think of them so check back!
Above all, have a great time!

Summer Festivals Around The World

Summer Festivals Around The World
One of the best parts of summer is the excitement and fun of spending time with family—this year, why not take an adventurous trip across the seas and spend time at one of these interesting summer festivals?  Most of us cannot drop everything and travel to foreign countries this summer, but your children can experience these fun places and festivals with a monthly subscription to Little Passports.   My girls love getting mail so they especially love getting their monthly Little Passports package.   Each month we travel to new places together online with Little Passports.  They love learning about new places and I love that they are realizing that the world is much bigger than right outside our door.

• White Nights Festival- Do you love art, music, or theater? How about festivals in Russia? Why not do both and go to the White Nights Festival! This annual arts festival takes place in St. Petersburg, and the name—White Nights—is derived from the fact that the sun doesn’t set during the time of the festival (and the whole city is naturally lit up 24 hours a day). From late May until the end of July, enjoy theater performances, costumes and carnivals, fireworks, live shows, and even a pirate battle on a gigantic ship to cap it all off. This year, the White Nights Festival will take place between the 24th of May until the 28th of July.

• Madrid Water Fight- In the second week of July, the people of Madrid prepare themselves for a gigantic party in the streets of Vallecas, where everyone is invited to join the fun. The best part? It’s a water fight! People take water balloons, water guns, and buckets full of water to splash each other. The 2013 celebration will take place on July 16th, and crowds are estimated to be around 10,000 people.

• Pflasterspektakel- This “pavement spectacle” is a street festival that takes place in Linz, Austria. Over 200,000 people gather to watch acrobats, plays, musical performances, magic tricks, and parades—there’s even a special segment just for kids. This year, it’ll run for three days on July 18,19, and 20.

• Boryeong Mud Festival- Mud has traditionally been used in makeup products to purify and detox the skin. One beauty company took it a little further, however, and started the Boryeong Mud Festival. This celebration takes place in Daecheon Beach, South Korea, and has over 2.2 million people attending each year. The festival includes mud slides, mud wrestling, mud throwing, and even mud sculptures! After sunset, the beach comes alive with music, parades, and even fireworks. This year, the festival is from July 19 to July 28.

So whether its watching daring pirates battle it out in a “sea”-worthy battle or slinging mud at your closest friends, there’s plenty of things to do and see out there this summer!

Cabbage Patch Kids are celebrating their 30th Anniversary in 2013!  Can you believe that?!  I LOVED having a Cabbage Patch Babies when I was little.  They were all so cute and smelled amazing.  I really wish I would have hung on to them.  A Cabbage Patch Baby would be the perfect thing to hand down to my girls!

But because I didn’t think that far into the future I am thankful to have found the NEW Cabbage Patch Kids!  They are still just as cute as they were before with a modern splash. With all of their super hip clothes and accessories how can you say no?

photo 1 copy 2

One of the best parts of the Cabbage Patch Kids is their customizable Birth Certificate.  Kids love things with their name on it and this confirms the baby belongs to them forever.  We were lucky enough to adopt a beautiful baby named Gia Sailor, born on May 19.  On the opposite side you can customize your official adoption papers with your child’s name, address, and date.  How perfect of a keepsake for when they are older!   I can’t wait to show my daughters a piece of their childhood.

When you open your new baby’s birth certificate inside you will find cute little stamped feet and thumb prints along with her family history. Our little baby was born in Cleveland, Georgia at Babyland General Hospital.  I love how much detail goes into making these perfect dolls.

These Cabbage Patch Kids “Fun to Feed” Babies are the perfect size for my youngest daughter. She takes her everywhere!  With her hard, good smelling head and her super soft body she makes the perfect playmate. Plus she came with a disappearing milk bottle. Too cute!
