If your kids liked Planes, they’ll LOVE Disney’s upcoming movie, Planes: Fire & Rescue!
Check out this fun clip:

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero. Directed by Bobs Gannaway (“Secret of the Wings”), “Planes: Fire & Rescue” hits theaters in 3D on July 18, 2014.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

When world-famous air racer Dusty Crophopper (voice of Dane Cook) returns to hometown Propwash Junction after another victorious racing season, the former crop duster revels in his new career success until a fateful training run changes his course with a career-ending injury.  Forced to shift gears, Dusty decides to train with the Aerial Fire Fighters at Piston Peak Air Attack Base as a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT). The heroic, often life-threatening efforts involved are admirable—but seemingly impossible to master—particularly if you’re a crop duster-turned-racer with an injury that can’t be ignored.

Blade Ranger (voice of Ed Harris), a veteran fire-and-rescue helicopter, heads up the Piston Peak Air Attack team. Haunted by a storied past, he’s a tough and demanding air boss with a wry sense of humor, and he’s not exactly enthusiastic about his new trainee Dusty. But Blade is a pro and does everything he can to bring the new SEAT up to speed.

Outgoing and spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen) is skilled at skimming lakes, scooping up more than 1600 gallons of water and dousing angry fires. A former cargo hauler from Alaska, Dipper is an avid air racing fan with a major crush on headline racer Dusty, so she’s head-over-wheels with excitement when the new SEAT shows up at Piston Peak.

Windlifter (voice of Wes Studi) is a heavy-lift helicopter who can hoist dozens of trees or a huge tank of fire retardant. The American Indian’s wisdom is vast—he’s chock full of fire folklore, and his connection to nature allows him to sense fires before they’re even spotted. The former lumberjack became a firefighter to help others, and no mission is too big for Windlifter.

A jolly old ex-military transport plane, Cabbie (voice of Dale Dye) used to drop airborne utility vehicles behind enemy lines in Korea. Now he drops smokejumpers at Piston Peak—it’s a lot like combat, but nobody’s shootin’ at him. With a payload of 10,000 pounds and a maximum takeoff weight of 74,000 pounds—Cabbie can carry the smokejumpers up to 2,000 miles away.

The Smokejumpers are a fearless team of grounded firefighters, led by the strong and sassy Dynamite (voice of Regina King)—so named because you don’t wanna set her off. Pinecone (voice of Corri English), equipped with a rake tool to clear brush and debris, is an easygoing southern soul. Avalanche (voice of Bryan Callen) earned his name after triggering a massive slide, but the bulldozer—who coincidently lacks an “inside voice”—claims he was nowhere near that snow bank. Tough and over-eager Blackout (voice of Danny Pardo) once accidentally sawed down an electrical line, cutting power to the lodge for weeks and sending shockwaves through his short-term memory—at least he thinks so. Drip (voice of Matt Jones), an outgoing dude who’s always leaking oil, uses a skid-steer claw to clear fallen trees and brush.

The Secretary of the Interior (voice of Fred Willard) has many responsibilities, but none is more important than overseeing the National Parks. This rugged outdoorsman loves being in nature; he spends most of his time away from his office in Washington, visiting the National Forests and Parks and helping to spread his message of conservation.

Harvey (voice of Jerry Stiller) & Winnie (voice of Anne Meara) met many moons ago when Harvey was the manager of an RV tire store and Winnie was his showroom model. The loving couple travel to Piston Peak Park, where they celebrated their honeymoon 50 years ago.

By 1978, Nick “Loop’n” Lopez (voice of Erik Estrada) was America’s favorite helicopter cop, featured on TV’s CHoPs, a show about two California Helicopter Patrol choppers. Nick, the troublemaking macho young officer, got the nickname “Loop’n” from his signature inside loop, which no other helicopter could perform.

PHASE TWO DESCRIPTIONS

image007 (1)
Park superintendent Cad Spinner (voice of John Michael Higgins) is a luxury Sport Utility Vehicle who’s better suited for a country club than the country. Self-centered and passionate about profits, Cad diverts a big chunk of the firefighters’ budget to his lodge restoration project. Though completely turned off by dirt, Cad’s not opposed to playing dirty to get his way.

image008 (1)
Maru (voice of Curtis Armstrong)
is the mechanic tug at the Piston Peak Air Attack base. Friendly with a sarcastic sense of humor, he’s been around a long time and has the cluttered hangar to prove it. With no budget for new parts, Maru’s many shelves of old parts and machinery come in quite handy. The repurposing pro’s motto? “It’s better than new!”

A loyal and trustworthy tour bus at Piston Peak for 72 years, Ol’ Jammer (voice of Barry Corbin) knows every trail, stream, rock and tree. This strong and seasoned bus with a gentle soul is eager to share his vast knowledge of the park’s history with the multitude of admiring daily visitors.

image010
Feisty old Mayday (voice of Hal Holbrook) has been Propwash Junction’s fire and rescue truck for … ever. He’s always rarin’ to go, but he’s lost a little speed over the years. Plus, his hoses are leaky and he can’t see much without his glasses. Propwash Junction is growing fast thanks to resident-turn-big-time-racer Dusty, so Mayday might be in over his headlights.

Ryker (voice of Kevin Richardson), a 17-year veteran of the Transportation Management Safety Team (TMST), not only lives by the book when it comes to airport accident investigations, he wrote the book. Nothing slips by this air safety investigator, so don’t even try.

Pulaski (voice of Patrick Warburton) is Piston Peak’s structural engine, responsible for protecting the buildings and bridges in the park. With a 2000-gallon tank, he can pump water at 1000 gallons per minute, but protecting the renovated Grand Fusel Lodge—considered the largest log structure in the world—may prove impossible, even for Pulaski.

disney planes dvd bluray

Disney’s animated movie, Planes, finally came out on DVD and Blu-ray today to the excitement of children everywhere.   The main character, Dusty, voiced by Dane Cook is a crop-duster plane who wants to be a racer.  He has big dreams of soaring fast and winning races even when everyone tells him that he can’t be a racer.   Dusty wasn’t build for speed and he has an unfortunate fear of heights- ironic for a plane, but with the help and support of his mentor Skipper (Stacy Keach), his mechanic Dottie (Teri Hatcher), and his best friend Chug (Brad Garrett) he enters the big race.

At the big race Dusty meets some new friends including Rochelle (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ishani (Priyanka Chopra), Bulldog (John Cleese), and my absolute favorite, El Chupacabra (Carlos Alazraqui).  Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith) wants to win at any cost so he does everything he can to put Dusty out of commission including enlisting the help of his two sidekicks, Echo (Anthony Edwards) and Bravo (Val Kilmer) to take Dusty down.  Dusty is a great friend to all and helps other planes in need which almost costs him the race.  But in the end, Dusty’s friends rally around him to get him fixed up for the last leg of the race.  Want to know how it ends?  Buy your copy of Planes now.

Planes is a great family movie.  It is rated PG but I personally think it is fine for all audiences.   Both of my girls (almost 8 and 10) loved it.  The animation is breathtaking and the characters are lovable.  I was on the edge of my seat with the amazing flight scenes that make the audiences feel like they are soaring in the skies with the characters.  As a parent, I love the underlying lessons of friendship and while it does have humor for both children and adults, it doesn’t have any of the more adult themed humor that some other movies do.  My older daughter asks LOTS of questions about movies (especially the jokes in them) so it is nice to have a movie where there isn’t anything that is going to make me blush when she asks questions.  While love isn’t a huge theme in the movie, I do love the underlying love story between El Chupacabra and Rochelle as do my daughters.

Disney’s newest 3D animated movie, Planes, soared into theaters today, but I was lucky enough to see it at the official Planes Hollywood Premiere earlier this week.

Ever wonder what it’s like to walk the red carpet at a Hollywood movie premiere?  On Monday I had the amazing opportunity to experience walking the red carpet at a Disney movie Hollywood premiere for the second time.  Last year I went to the Frankenweenie premiere in Hollywood and it was an amazing experience but attending the Disney Planes premiere was even more exciting.  I knew a little of what to expect and I felt a little more prepared.  The street in front of the El Capitan Theater was blocked off for the event.  There were 2 areas of the red carpet, the front, larger area where stars stand and pose and the back, narrower area where the people actually walk across to get to the event.  As we walked across the carpet, I heard shouts of “Teri” from the paparazzi.  I looked to the left and saw Teri Hatcher posing for the TONS of paparazzi and onlookers.

P1160651How adorable is Teri Hatcher kissing her daughter?P1160665Look, my foot ON the red carpet:

We walked across the red carpet and took a few pictures before we entered the fun carnival area that was sponsored by Target. P1160735
I just loved the balloon airplane person balancing on the world!
P1160718
The carnival area had games like skeeball, a few crane game machines, and a fishing game just to name a few.  Everyone was a winner at each game and the prizes were all Disney’s Planes toys that will be sold at Target.  It was AMAZING!  Check out all the great games and food that was at the carnival:

And here are some of the awesome Disney’s Planes toys that were give as prizes and are available at Target:

The carnival was AMAZING enough by itself but what was really the icing on the cake was being in the same place as so many stars.  They weren’t behind the glass or behind a gate.  We were all together at the carnival.  I stood next to Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen from the Twilight movies) and I thought I might faint.  He was there with his children as were so many other stars.  It was great seeing the family side of the stars and realizing that many of them as parents just like the rest of us.

Marissa Winokur had her 2 sons with her and I smiled as she was struggling to hold all the toys that her boys had won.  As a mom I certainly can relate to having to hold a million and one things for my kids.   You can see all of her toys on the ground behind us.

Here is Ashley Simpson checking out the awesome toys with her son and a friend.
P1160798
One of the highlights of the premiere was getting to meet and take a picture with Teri Hatcher.  She was so sweet, funny, gracious, and especially beautiful!  She took the time to pose with quite a few of us.
P1160927
As the mom of 2 girls who LOVE watching the Disney Channel, I was so excited to be able to meet and take pictures with some of the stars of their favorite Disney Channel shows- Dog With a Blog and Jessie.  My girls saw my pictures and think they have a pretty cool mom.
stars of Dog With a Blog and JessieTaking pictures with the stars above put my pretty high on my girls’ cool meter but want to know what really topped it?
BELLA THORNE from Shake It Up!  Ironically last week when I went to Chicago for BlogHer my girls asked if I would be seeing Shake It Up Chicago and meeting Rocky and CeCe.  Who would have known that I would have gone to LA and actually meet Bella Thorne who plays CeCe on Shake It Up?  She was sweet enough to take a picture with me.
P1160908
Taking a picture with so many of my girls’ favorite Disney stars was pretty exciting but that’s not really what put me on the top of the cool mom chart for my girls.  I called and video chatted with them for a bit from the premiere party when Bella Thorne was right behind me and as we chatted Bella waved to them.  One of their favorite stars actually was able to see them on my cell and wave to them.  I don’t think any of us will ever forget that moment.  It was so great to be able to share the excitement with my girls even if they were across the country.

It is amazing just how many stars were at the premiere- Jason Priestly, Ian Ziering, Hillary Duff, Anthony Edwards,  Kevin Nealon,  Brooke Burke-Charvet, Dane Cook, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stacy Keach, Cedric The Entertainer, Alyssa Milano, and so many more!  This was certainly a night I will never forget!  I will be posting my review of the Disney’s Planes movie on Friday so check back then!
