What To Do When You’re Unwell & The Cause Is Work Related

They say that if you haven’t got your health, you haven’t got anything – and they’re right. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with a serious health problem, either chronic or fatal, then the chances are that you are struggling to come to terms with what’s happened to you. Often, health problems are caused by biology or simply bad luck, but sometimes they are due to environmental factors, such as where you have worked. The question is, what should you do when you become unwell due to something that happened while you were at work, recently or in the past?

Determine the cause of your illness

lawyers-1000803_640Photo from Pixabay

The first step is to determine the cause of your illness. How easy this is to do will depend on what your illness is. Some illnesses have a range of factors that could have caused them, making it difficult to determine the cause. Whereas other illnesses only have one cause, meaning that it’s easier to work out what’s caused them to occur.

For example, say you have been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a form of asbestos-related cancer. In order to have this type of cancer, you need to have been exposed to asbestos. The chances are that if you have spent time working in the construction industry, at one point or another you may have been exposed to asbestos, as this is the most likely way that exposure happens. Asbestos is now illegal in building but that doesn’t mean that it’s not still present in older buildings, so when renovating an older building you may have been exposed to it. If you have now been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a form of asbestos-related cancer, you may be wanting to seek help with your Mesothelioma case to get justice for what has happened to you.

Seek legal advice

Once you have determined what the cause of your illness is and are able to prove that it is definitely the cause, the next step is to seek legal advice. Get in touch with a local attorney who specializes in medical lawsuits and ask them whether they think that you have a case. If the answer is yes, you can then discuss the next steps with them. If you’re short of money, it’s best to look for an attorney that offers to work on a no-win, no-fee basis. That way, unless you win, you don’t have to pay them anything.

Take those responsible to court

If your lawyer thinks that you have a case, then the next step is to contact those responsible for your illness and take them to court. If you are suffering from an asbestos-related injury, then this will be the company that you were working for at the time. You see, it was your employer’s responsibility to ensure that you and your colleagues were properly protected from asbestos, and clearly they didn’t do that. So they can be held accountable for the fact that you have become unwell as a result of their actions.

Being seriously unwell is never nice, but by taking the people responsible to court, you can make your recovery process easier and less stressful because you won’t need to worry about your finances.

Can Wildlife Ever Become Pets?

Wildlife is one of the greatest joys of living on the planet that we do. We get to see it, enjoy it – but then we have to walk away. If you want to see badgers, foxes, hedgehogs and even deer, then it’s photographs or a huge amount of time spent waiting to see one.

It’s something that popular fiction tries to persuade us doesn’t have to be the case.

Owls act as both pets and messengers in the Harry Potter series; many a Disney film relies on a friendly wild animal sidekick. Yet in our hearts, we know it’s not a reality – that the “wild” is there for a reason.

But does it have to be?

Conservation Matters

It will probably come as no surprise to learn that the natural habitat of many forms of wildlife is under threat. Urbanization sprawls our cities outwards as an increasing human population seeks new land to call its own. The resulting impact on wildlife is cataclysmic, but there is no obvious solution.

If you have ever wanted to own a pet with a traditionally “wild” background, conservation is as good a reason as any to do it. It’s not dissimilar to the function of zoos. While we may balk at animals being kept for humans amusement, most zoos site conservation as their primary concern. Without them, species would go extinct.

If we domesticate more wildlife, then we can help lessen the stress of dwindling resources.

But Is It Possible?

In simple terms: yes.

Beneath that is the more realistic answer: yes, but it’s difficult.

You can’t go and grab the nearest badger and move it in with you – much as you might be tempted to do so. Instead, efforts have to be selective. In general, it is best to select from a reputable breeder who has experience with wild animals and can advise you further before taking the plunge.

The Experience Will Differ

Unfortunately, even with numerous hedgehogs and various types of foxes being brought into private hands – the result is not necessarily a common pet-owning experience. Dogs were once wild, and we now see them as man’s best friend, but that process took thousands of years and resulted in hundreds of different breeds. (Cats, on the other hand, largely domesticated themselves – choosing to be around humans for the abundance of food. They’re not stupid, cats.)

If you commit to owning a wild animal – even one bred in domestic settings – then you have to be aware of the problems it may present. Of course, there will be a huge amount of rewards to be also reaped, not least knowing that one part of the species is protected. You just have to recalibrate your expectations.

Should this put you off? Of course not! Some people are terrified of snakes; others happily share their lives with them as domestic pets. There is a pet out there for everyone. If you think you have got the time and dedication for a unique pet, then do a little research, and who knows where it may lead you?

The Essential Tips For Raising Healthy, Happy Children

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Every parent has the priority of raising healthy, happy children. However, there are a few things that can easily be overlooked. Raising them the way we were raised may work, but now there are far more effective ways of making sure your kids are happy and healthy. Here are the essential tips for raising happy, healthy children:

Choose Your Words Carefully

Choosing your words carefully in front of your children is a must. You don’t realize it, but your kids pick up on words and emotions from a young age. Before they can even talk, they are listening to you and soaking everything up like a sponge. If you speak negatively all the time while they are babies, they may very well develop a pessimistic attitude as they grow up. They learn more from you than you realize. In fact, many of their beliefs, including their limiting beliefs are picked up from you when they are young. These beliefs can be difficult to get rid of, and can stop them from living a full and happy life. Don’t beat yourself up about it, but definitely choose your words carefully around them.

Know How To Praise And Reward Them

Knowing how to praise and reward your children is crucial. Giving them a present every time they clean their room isn’t going to do much good. They will grow up to expect bribes for virtually everything they do, and may even develop a sense of entitlement in different situations. You can praise and reward your kids every so often by setting up a consistent system, for example, a sticker chart. Make sure you use the right words to praise and reward them too. Instead of telling them they are naturally talented, tell them you are happy with the effort they put into something. Don’t forget to ask them how they feel about it too. This is beneficial for so many reasons. For a start, if you tell a child they are naturally talented, they can put too much pressure on themselves to be perfect later on. Putting an emphasis on the effort, and even including your own feelings in the praise statement is the best way to go about it. Better yet, asking them how they feel about it encourages them to stay in touch with their own emotions and do things because it felt good. Not just to be a parent/people pleaser!

Do Your Research Before Buying Anything

Before you buy anything, make sure you do your research. This is especially important with things that can be recalled and deemed faulty, such as car seats. You can look at Baby Seats Reviews to help you. Make sure you do lots of research and compare different items so you know you’re keeping your children as healthy and safe as possible.

Teach Them Moderation When It Comes To Food

When it comes to food, teaching your kids moderation is important. Some people tend to think that one bad meal ruins their whole week, so they go and stuff their faces with more unhealthy food. Some people won’t let a bit of bad food touch their lips, in a ‘moment on the lips lifetime on the hips’ kind of way. Both of these approaches are awful. Your kids need to be taught moderation, and there’s no better way to teach them moderation than to practice it yourself. If you’re always on a diet, eating junk, or living off shakes, they’re going to think this is normal and copy you. It isn’t just about the words you use, but the things you do too. Don’t ever call yourself ‘fat’ in front of a child. Don’t comment on their appearance either, especially not their weight! If you do want to say something, you can say they look healthy and happy. It’s a good idea to let them listen to their natural hunger cues too. They should eat when they’re hungry and stop when they’re full. This is why forcing their dinner down them or even making a big deal about it is a bad idea. If you make them eat when they’re not hungry, this can cause problems later on. If you make a big deal about them and call them a ‘picky eater’, they’ll likely carry this label with them and use it as an excuse to get attention later on.

Get Into Good Routines

Getting into good routines when it comes to food, bedtimes and the time they get up in the morning will help to no end. Kids need at least a rough routine to be happy. Not only can routines help you to make the most of your time together, it can get them into healthy habits, like brushing their teeth. It can also teach them a little about time management!

Let Them Make Choices

Letting your kids make choices can help them to feel happier, as well as trust themselves more. You could let them choose what they want for lunch, within reason. You could give them the choice of two outfits at the start of the day. There are a few different ways you can implement this with success!

Don’t Try To ‘Fix’ Your Child’s Feelings

You must realize that trying to ‘fix’ your child’s feelings is a losing game. If they’re sad, buying them a toy won’t make them feel better really, and it can actually encourage them not to deal with their emotions properly. Imagine how this will impact them when they get older! Instead, encouraging them to talk about their feelings and process them is the best thing to do. Of course you want to help your child feel as good as possible, but it really all boils down to them.

2500097744_45620f6382_zimage

Set A Good Example For Them

If you haven’t realized it yet, you must set a good example for your kids. Your actions say everything to them. This means making sure you nurture your own happiness in front of them, and even your relationships. They look up to you, so make sure you’re doing the right thing!

Give Them Real Responsibilities

Giving kids responsibilities can help them to feel needed, and teach them responsibility for later on in life too. Maybe you could make it their job to top up the dog’s water bowl, or to put the knives and forks out at dinner time. These responsibilities may only be small, but it’ll help them in so many ways. You could even set up a family rota so your kids always know what they should be doing. You can even start them off while they’re young. For example, letting them help you to sweep up. It might take a little longer, and it might not look as good, but you’re showing them that they can do things. It’ll also make them want to help you more later on!

6918640906_7e2fc010a0_zauthor

Make Sure You Eat Dinner Together

Eating dinner together has so many benefits, and many studies even back this up. For example, it gives your family a chance to spend quality time together. This is so beneficial if you don’t have a lot of time to spend together during the day. You can catch up, share stories, and things like that. Studies show that kids who eat dinner as a family are better behaved and happier too. They may even do better in school! What more reason do you need to eat dinner together?

Encourage Them To Get Active Regularly

Encouraging your kids to get active will get them into the exercise habit while they are young. How about suggesting things to them and letting them try out anything that appeals? This could be dancing, playing a sport, or anything like that. Letting them try things until they find something they really like is a great way to keep them active. They’ll likely be healthier later on in life then, too. Just bear in mind that you shouldn’t get attached to them doing one particular thing. It’s natural for them to want to branch out and try different things. It’s healthy for them, in fact! Remember, there’s no better way to encourage them to get active than to get active yourself. You could even do classes together. Many gyms and places offer yoga and similar classes for kids and parents. Don’t let your kids sit for too long in front of the computer, tablet, or phone. Make sure they get out there and actually move!

These are all essential tips to raising healthy, happy children. You want your children to be healthy and happy in all areas of life. This means physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. Make sure you work on yourself as you encourage them. After all, they will look up to you and take the lead from you. They won’t pay any attention if you are telling them one thing and doing another! When you decide to get a pooch, it’s such an exciting time for your family. After all, a furry friend can bring so much joy and love over the years. But you will be surprised how many pet owners say the experience is completely different to what they expected. Therefore, here are some surprising things you learn in the first few months of owning a pooch.

woman-888409_640Pixabay

You will find dog hair all over the carpet

Of course, you know you can expect dog fur to be in your home. After all, it’s normal for dogs to shed fur as they get rid of old and damaged hair. However, for a lot of people they are surprised how much fur they find in their home. As we said before, it can end up in every room! And not only is it unhygienic, but it can also be a nightmare for allergy sufferers. However, it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. For one thing, ensuring your dog is regularly groomed can help to reduce the amount of dog hair in your home. And also you need to make sure they are well and healthy if you want to reduce the volume of hair. And make sure you get a good vac so that you can easily clean the hair.

Your dog might not be able to have every pet food

For a lot of dog owners, they tend to go for the cheapest pet food around. After all, it can be expensive, so you don’t want to break the bank. But you will learn in the first few months of being a pet parent that your dog might not be able to have every food. After all, they might be allergic to some types. Or they might require a particular food such as one which is gluten free! You can talk to your vet if you are concerned about which food to get your pet. And you can always look online for the best dog food ratings. That way, you can be happy to get your dog nutritional food that will keep them healthy.

Your pooch will love you unconditionally

There is no doubt that you will love your dog. Even when you first pick up your pooch from the pound, they are hard to resist! But you don’t realize how much your dog can love you. In fact, your child and the pooch will have an instant bond which will last a lifetime. And they will love you unconditionally. Therefore, it’s worth considering getting a pooch just for the special friendship you will have!

You will spend most of your wage at the vets

A lot of people expect the vets will be expensive. But they don’t realize how much until they take their pooch for their first appointment. Not only will the first boosters cost a small fortune but getting them neutered can also be expensive. And that’s before the annual visits for injections and flea and worming treatment! Therefore, you should ensure you get some pet insurance that will cover your pet. That way, you won’t have to fork out a chunk of your wage on your pooch’s time at the vets.

And you will also learn the importance of house training your pet straight away. After all, it’s never fun throwing away your chewed up pair of shoes!

Finding Your Family’s Normal: Dealing With Special Needs In Your Family

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

These days, more and more children are getting diagnosed with special needs. In many ways, this is great, because kids are getting the help they need to be able to tackle the world around them. It isn’t so much that more kids have special needs – more that now they’re being identified and treated as well as possible. But that doesn’t stop special needs like autism and ADHD from presenting their own challenges within your family unit. Here are some tips to help…

portrait-child-hands-57449Image source

Do Your Research

Make sure you know as much as you can about the additional needs that your child has. That doesn’t mean that you should distrust your doctor and focus on the information on internet forums instead. On the contrary – make sure that you understand everything that your doctor or pediatrician is telling you, and do your own research to expand on those facts when you get home.

pexels-photo-173666Image source

Take What You’re Entitled To

If you’re entitled to money from the government and social security because of the needs that your child has, make sure that you take what you’re entitled to. There’s no point in being too proud – the money is there to help you and your family, and it will help enable your child to live as full a life as they can. If you aren’t getting what you should be and you’re having some problems, talk to a lawyer like David Chermol who specializes in cases like that.

pexels-photo-38471Image source

Educate Other People

Admittedly, explaining your child’s needs to other people might get old very quickly, but nonetheless it can be an important thing to do. If you have an autistic kid who’s having a meltdown in public, explaining quickly that they have autism so they find some parts of ‘normal’ social situations difficult might mean that in the future other parents with kids with special needs might not be judged harshly on first sight. If you can, you could consider working with a charity that helps out other kids with special needs who are in tougher situations than you. Your specialist knowledge will make you an invaluable volunteer.

girl-kids-training-school-159782Image source

Get Tougher

Unfortunately it’s important that you really have it together so that you can best care for your child. People might offer you irritating unsolicited advice and insinuate that you’re not doing everything in your power to help your child, but ultimately you have to remember to stand your ground and stick up for yourself and your family. You may have to push doctors for more suggestions and information, you may have to push the government for more help so you can adapt your home for your kids the best that you can. Now isn’t the time to be softly spoken – fight on behalf of your child. Now isn’t the time to be a mother hen – it’s the time to be a lioness.

pexels-photoImage source

Do What’s Best For Your Family

Remember that ultimately nothing matter except what’s best for you, your child, and the rest of your family. Don’t second guess yourself or listen to people who don’t know what they’re talking about. Trust your instincts and you’ll do the best thing for you.

Guidelines To Shake Off Back Pain Faster

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

If you’ve had a nasty experience with any kind of back pain, then your physician has probably recommended a range of stretches and aerobic exercises to help you on the way to recovery. However, this isn’t the only thing you should be finding time for to make things easier for yourself. If you want to put this terrible experience behind you, here are a few more guidelines for recovering from back pain.

Work with a Professional

3812188391_a8b02138a8_zImage: Flickr

Seen as your back pain has been severe enough for you to click on this post, it’s pretty likely that you’ve already spoken to your personal physician at length about it. While all good doctors will have at least some understanding about the most common forms of back pain, sometimes you need help from someone more specialized. Our spines and the muscle groups forming our backs make up a very complex structure, and a good specialist will work within the latest, most developed protocol for understanding the root cause, and working to help you along with a speedy recovery. Look around at some osteopaths such as http://www.lukerickardsosteopath.net, and find out what kind of services they can offer. The input of a specialist can knock weeks or even months off of the course of your recovery!

Control your Medication Use

pexels-photo-143654Image: Pexels

Your doctor may have prescribed some medication to help with your back pain, and this can certainly play a big part in your overall recovery. However, you should be careful about leaning too much on pills when recovering from chronic pain. For example, using medications that affect your endorphins, as well as muscle relaxants, can cause serious cases of depression over time, and should therefore be used as little as possible. Furthermore, while anti-inflammatory medications can help with short-term pain relief, they haven’t been proven to speed up the healing process, and you shouldn’t be neglecting any exercises or other recommended lifestyle changes just because you’re taking your pills. It can be easy to leave the worrying to your doctors, but make sure you understand what your medication is actually going to do.

Eat Well

soy-whey-protein-dietImage: Wikimedia

Nutrition plays a big part in how quick and easy it is to recover from back pain, just like any other aspect of your health! You may not be in much of a mood for eating right now, but make sure you’re getting enough calories in a balanced manner. If you’re getting all your calories in the form of sugars (sweets, pasta, bread), then all the calories that aren’t being used up straight away will be converted into fat. Piling weight onto your body will put the spine and back muscles under a lot of strain, and slow down the healing process severely. You also need to make sure you’re getting enough protein, as this is hugely beneficial for soft tissue healing. Fresh fruit and vegetables, combined with vitamin supplements if necessary, will also give your body all it needs to heal effectively.

Make these tips part of your lifestyle, and you’ll be well on your way to feeling yourself again!

5 Incredible Renovation Ideas For Your Bathroom

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

When it comes to bathrooms, planning is everything. If you think about remodeling a bathroom, you should not only consider which tiles to use. It is also necessary to think about possible increase or decrease of the room and tearing down the walls.

There are a lot of different combinations. You can opt for a basic approach or for a full-scale redesign. It is all up to you and we hope these 5 ideas will help with your choice.

  1. Planning the space

Sometimes, you simply have to make the necessary adjustment. Tearing down the walls and moving them is a common thing if you have a small bathroom. In fact, it is a necessary improvement. Although some people may say that this will impact other rooms, bathroom is without question one of the most important rooms in the house. It provides us necessary comfort and relaxation in our time of need and this is why we need to make it as comfortable as possible. Another thing that needs to be considered is adding windows (if you have none) or adding more of them. They are the necessary element for ventilation and reduction of mold.

  1. Think about the doors

Most people do not consider this but like every other door in your home, bathroom doors are opened inwards. If you have a small bathroom, this can further limit the available space. As an option, you might consider sliding doors. They are much more chic and also, they provide the necessary solution to your problem.

  1. Using the tiles and colors

Let’s be honest, tiles can be really expensive especially if you wish to buy high quality ones. Due to this fact, most homeowners opt to combine tiles with paint. They might run tiles up to a certain height and then, paint the rest of the room. No matter what you choose, make sure to have a nice combination of colors and designs. If there is one thing you need to ask an architect, this is the one. A lot of people think that they have a great idea only to be disappointed with the final product. Additionally, you should think about the light/dark factor. Smaller bathrooms work well with lighter colors. On the other hand, you can make any type of combination if you have a large space at your disposal.

  1. Use mirror as the focal point

Mirrors are commonly used as the centerpiece of any bathroom. This is only to be expected as most of the people use them to check their face as soon as they enter the room. That being said, they require special attention. Although you can skim on some other things, you definitely shouldn’t save on a mirror. Make sure to get something classy that will at the same time work well with the rest of your interior design.

  1. Adding your own style

As a final tip, I recommend that you try something new. Some of us prefer experimenting and giving the bathroom their own stamp. This is a great approach. By listening to your inner voice, you can create something specific. We are generally taught that bathrooms should be a finished product, similarly to kitchens, where you do not have to change anything. But, these changes are precisely the thing that makes it our own.

Generally, speaking, bathrooms allow you mix things up. There is no correct or wrong way to decorate them. If you wish, you can even add pictures, shelves, jars hanging from the walls. No matter what you choose, make sure you like it because it should create a feeling of comfort and relaxation.

Habits That Can Ruin Your Health

Humanity is a strange race. Humans constantly do things which you know can hurt the body and your health, and nobody seemingly doesn’t even care. There are many things which can hurt a human’s body in a variety of ways. Different things can cause harm to specific parts of our body and sometimes you don’t even know it until it’s too late and you’re in hospital. Here you can see some of the things which can cause your health to deteriorate.

Over Exercising

Of course exercising can be a great way to stay healthy, lose weight and build muscle, but some people get the exercising bug and just can’t stop, it becomes a do or die situation where you exercise on a daily basis and constantly push yourself over and over again. It can be quite damaging. People who over exercise can be prone to injuries, they’re stopping the body from healing and resting, which it needs. You put strain on your tendons and ligaments and put your bones at risk of breaking. You can also lower your immune system because your body is so focused on healing it tends to spread its efforts around, instead of concentrating purely on keeping you from getting ill. There are many downsides to over exercising, the key is to exercise in moderation.

Smoking

It’s an odd one. Everyone knows the downsides and extreme health risks of smoking yet people still seem to want to do it. There are countless ways to help you stop. Recently, vaping has taken to the fore, and is a different way of inhaling nicotine with a wide variety of different flavours. It uses an e juice which disperses into vapour. However, this also has extreme nasty side effects though it is better than smoking. Nicotine patches, tablets and gum are a wholly better way to quit smoking and to protect your body from the innumerable downsides.

Overworking

Workaholics beware. Overworking really is a thing that can damage your health. If you’re not careful you can end up getting into a damaging routine which your supervisor expects of you. This may keep you up late working, resulting in a lack of sleep, or stress you out, leaving you with heart problems. It can affect your relationships, giving you little time to spend with loved ones. You need to assess how much its hurting you and have the conversation with your supervisor. Put your health first, always.

Not Drinking Enough Water

The human body is literally made up of water, so it stands to reason we should be drinking a lot of it. However the majority of people won’t, instead they’ll mistake the feeling for hunger or will be far too busy to take a drink at all. If you don’t drink enough you’ll become dehydrated, your skin will be cracked and unhealthy and you’ll lose vital energy levels which should be maintained. It can help your cells regenerate at faster levels, leaving us without headaches and able to function as we should.

How You Can Expect Your Body to Change After Pregnancy

Your body goes through a lot of changes during pregnancy, so you shouldn’t expect it to return completely to normal after you’ve given birth. There will be certain things about your body that will remain changed even after your baby is born, so continue reading to discover what you should expect.

Vaginal Changes

After giving birth, your vagina may look very different than it did before you got pregnant. The skin may be tender and stretched following delivery, and physical changes in the skin surrounding your vagina could also become apparent. Thankfully, there are many experts, such as David Ghozland, who can perform a vaginoplasty to get your skin to look more youthful and tighter after you’ve had children.

Belly Changes

Your belly grew substantially while you were pregnant, so you should not expect that your belly will go back to its pre-pregnancy size right away. It could take anywhere from six to eight weeks before your uterus returns to its normal size, so your belly will need quite a bit of time to tighten up again. Focus on eating right and exercising, including exercising your core, to help tone up the baby bulge that remains after you have given birth. And, most importantly, be patient.

Leg Changes

Your lower body can also be affected by your pregnancy. Your legs, in particular, may be swollen and puffy during your pregnancy, and that will go away rather quickly after you have given birth. But some women will end up experiencing twitching in the legs after they have their baby. Also, the varicose veins and spider veins that may have developed during your pregnancy may never completely go away.

Urinary and Bowel Changes

When you were pregnant, you had a baby pressing up against your bladder, so you felt the need to urinate more often. Without that pressure, you will not be urinating as often anymore, but the pressure that is put on the urethra while delivering a baby could make post-pregnancy urination harder. You might develop a urinary tract infection or incontinence. Also, constipation may continue being a problem even after you’ve given birth, and hemorrhoids or an episiotomy might make your bowel movements painful.

Breast Changes

While you are pregnant, your breasts will become larger, and they will also be sore and swollen from all of the milk they have produced for a couple of days after you give birth. It will take about four days for the swelling to go down, unless you are breastfeeding. Then what you will likely notice is that your breasts start to sag because their skin has been stretched. Following your pregnancy and breastfeeding, you may even notice that your breasts become smaller by about a cup size.

In addition to the bodily changes listed above, there are other ways in which a woman’s body will transform during and after pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions regarding what you should expect and what is considered normal so that you can put your mind at ease.
