Do you often sit down to watch movies with your family? If so, you should attempt to make this precious quality time that you share with one another as special as it can be. To do that, you’re going to have to attempt to take your viewing sessions to a whole other level.

To find what you must do to take your family movie nights to the next level, be sure to read on.

Optimize your viewing experience

If you and your family are avid movie buffs, then you should indulge in your passion in the best way possible by optimizing your viewing experience.

To do this, you should have a state-of-the-art theater installed in your home by Media Controlled. With this type of professionally engineered audio, video, and control system in your home, you will be able to get lost in the movies that you watch just as you would if you were sitting in the movie theaters.

Choose a theme

Basing your movie nights around a specific theme is a great way to make these events feel a whole lot more special. From the movie that you watch to the mood that you set to the food that you serve, choosing a different theme each time will be sure to help you take your family movie nights to the next level.

Stuck for inspiration in this instance? Here are just a few movie night themes that you should consider embracing:

Pizza movie night

This would entail you and your family creating a pizza of your own before sitting down to watch a movie. A few films that go perfect with any pizza include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mystic Pizza, and Wayne’s World.

Western movie night

To host a true Western movie night, you should cook your food outdoors before bringing it inside to eat while you watch your film of choice. Some classic flicks to consider watching in this instance include True Grit, The Magnificent 7, and Legends of the Fall.

Sea movie night

If you want to host a sea-themed movie night, simply serve up a seafood dish and watch anything from Finding Nemo to Cast Away.

Watch home movies

If you and your family ever find yourself in a position where you cannot decide on what movie to watch, why not make yourselves the stars of the show? Give Margot Robbie, Leo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt the night off for once and watch your own home movies instead. This will allow you and your family to reminisce on times gone by and ultimately strengthen the bond that you share with one another.

The nights in which you and your family sit down to enjoy a movie together should be a memorable occasion each time. Everything about them should be as fun and as relaxing as they can possibly be. To ensure this is the case, you should put all of the advice laid out above into practice the next time you decide to have a family movie night.

Make Summer 2017 The Most Memorable Year For Your Entire Family

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

As we grow, learn and develop alongside our family members, time can slip away faster than we can keep a hold on it. It affects us all, and over time we can lose years that upon first inspection seemed to fly by while we were unaware.

It’s for this very same reason that we have a duty to ourselves to remember the good times, but more importantly to manufacture the good times. Memory is a dead concept when we have nothing of import to remember. Life hurries, things decay, and we’ll all be old before we have chance to think about it. This needn’t be depressing, so long as we fill our lives with joy and wonder while we are lucky enough to be here with the family we love so much.

This summer is a perfect opportunity to craft the memories you’ll remember for a lifetime with your family. It might be the last summer that your children are here before they depart for their formative college years. It might be the summer where your children return home after college, and figure out what they’d like to do with the rest of their lives. Or, it might just be a summer where your children are growing up, and about to enter their first years of schooling altogether.

As a close, tightly knit family unit, every minute you spend together is a minute well spent. Here’s how you can bring some of the familial magic and inflate it during this upcoming summer.

Bring The Magic Home

Home is where to heart is. Spending part of this summer at home with your family will be enjoyed much more during this heatwave-laden summer if you implement:

Garden Upgrades

Now might be the time to upgrade the niceties of your garden space finally. This might include a seating area, developing an outdoor fireplace as a hub for conversation, or simply spending the summer gardening with your youngest child. This is the season where our gardens come to life, so it’s important we make the most of it.

Upgrading your garden will make it a more favorable place to host, unwind and spend hours conversing with your family. In a civilized instance, this might look like implementing new garden furniture that allows you to eat your meals outdoors under the shade of a parasol, or to have a stable platform to host a BBQ meal. In it’s most fun interpretation, this could be purchasing a SaluSpa Lay Z Spa Miami portable hot tub to unwind and cool off with your family and friends, in a way that requires much less maintenance and upfront cost than a static hot tub fixture.

Explore Your Local Geography

Making the most of your summer is in part achieved by making the most of the area that surrounds you. Over the years, it’s easy to fall into forgetting the little pleasures of your local community, and seeing what it offers. Go out of your way to explore nature trails, eat at restaurants you wouldn’t usually do, and travel to the far end of town to visit the shopping centers you never attend. This can lend you a new and insightful view of your town, and give your summer that invigorated feeling that doesn’t require you to stray far from your doorstep.

Rekindle The Adventures From Childhood

In the same vein as re-exploring the town you live in, why not revisit places that you used to enjoy with your kids if they’ve returned home for the summer? Visiting the places that were instrumental in their childhood will help them experience an old wave of nostalgia and positive emotion, and it can be a great way of recollecting and remembering the years gone past. This might be as simple as visiting the lake you used to fish at with your son or daughter, or visiting the local stadium of the sports team your child used to love.

Take The Magic Abroad

Sometimes, you might not feel like spending the summer at home is warranted. Sometimes, you need to go large and book a vacation that will echo through the years of your family history. You might like to:

Go Somewhere New

Taking your family somewhere new is a sure fire way to create a memorable summer. Many families keep holiday destinations close to their hearts and are hesitant to venture elsewhere. Once a country, resort or beach captures your heart, it can be difficult to veer away from it. However, the world is a large place, and there are many such places that might just capture your heart in the same way, and lend you that traveling perspective that will help your family grow together positively.

Why not change this summer up completely? Memories are best made when you have a new stimulus to remember. If your family is usually used to lounging around on a beach, why not try a snow holiday, skiing or snowboarding? It might seem completely out of your comfort zone, but why not try it? There’s nothing to lose, and you might enjoy yourself. When you come to recall the holiday, instead of ‘Hey, remember that time we went to our vacation spot?’ could turn into ‘Hey, remember the time we went completely left-field and experienced that adventure together? It all depends on your attitude going in. Of course, your money is yours to spend, and unwinding time is often coveted all year round. But sometimes, an adventuring spirit is all you need.

Permanent Vacation Homes

If your chosen destination pulls so strongly as to warrant you visiting with your family once more, first of all, congratulations! Not many people find such a magnetic place that their family can repeatedly enjoy so that it becomes a home from home. Why not try and procure a letting agreement for a holiday home there? If you can, get a mortgage on it and purchase it outright.

Owning a vacation home has a plethora of benefits. These are not only limited to having a static and dependable place to stay, but that matters too. What matters is that you have a place you can upgrade over time, potentially purchase land around, and become part of the local community in a much more grounded way than you could have if you didn’t live in the area.

This house can serve as a home that your children can safely visit when it comes to them taking their first vacations abroad. It can also serve as a retirement home for when it comes to selling your original home. By then, you’ll be so embedded in the local culture that moving there will feel like returning home, rather than moving home.

Visit Your Child

If your child is now living in a different city, pursuing the career of their dreams and proceeding successfully, why not visit them? Living in a hotel room for a couple of weeks can be a great way to break up the flow of your daily life, and let your child take the reigns for a change. This way you can comfortably explore a city with them and have them show you the results of their efforts. They’ll no doubt be immensely proud to have you and show you around their new life in the city.

Celebrate The Magic Made

The title of this article stipulates that this is to be your most memorable year. How will you remember it perfectly if you don’t take the time to effectively store your memories? Thankfully, in our modern technologically advanced age, we can all take photographs and videos with stunning detail at a moment’s notice.

But how do you best preserve and present these memories to those you wish to display them to, including your future self? Here’s how:

Get A PhotoBook Made

Getting a professional photo book made of your journeys through the summer can help preserve the original photographs, but also give you a beautiful and ‘official’ bound book to view them in. This can be stored and passed down through your family and pondered over for generations to come. Adding to your family heirlooms in this way can make you feel like you’ve paid the memories the respect they deserve.

Get An Heirloom Crafted

If you’re feeling creative, why not make a testiment to the summer you experienced with your family, that is never to be forgotten thanks to how beautiful it was? A simple plaque might seem too much, but a form of substantial carving that depicts a moment in the time spent with your family can serve as a physical, tangible reminder of the reasons that you started the family in the first place.

Life moves fast, if you don’t pay the attention it deserves to yourself and your family, you could miss it. Be sure to enact a number of these solutions, if not all, to craft a summer that you’d be proud to tell tales of for some time to come. Your children will no doubt remember all about it when it comes to providing their children with the same experiences.

Have Fun With The Family In The Great Outdoors

If you haven’t prepared anything this summer because times are tough and you can’t afford to splash out on cash this year – don’t beat yourself up about it. There are tons of different things that you can do as a family that’s fun, but doesn’t empty out your pockets.

If you’re one that likes adventures, then what’s nicer than exploring the forest with your children? Discover the outdoors and use this as a bonding experience as well as a learning one.

If you’ve never done anything like this before, then you don’t want to get too over ambitious by going any further than you need to. So do some planning beforehand and pick a nice spot that’s safe to go to, and isn’t too far out.

Wear clothes that you don’t mind you and your kids getting dirty. This is your chance to live a little on the wild side, so don’t worry about scuffing your shoes or staining your pants – it’s time to forget about things like that for a while. Let your kids have a run around and feel totally free for a moment or two.

Respect the forest

Before you leave, you should sit down with your family and have a talk about how to be respectful of the area, as well as the creatures that live there. Tell your children that the forest is home to so many other animals, and it’s important to keep it clean and safe for them so that they can live a happy life too.

Activities to do in the forest

If just going for a stroll isn’t enough for your kids (or you for that matter,) then come up with some fun activities that you can all do together as a family.

If you’re not too sure about what you can do, here are some ideas.

Make some art

Bring some sketchbooks and an array of different colored pencils. Have a sit down with everyone and pick out something you each like looking at. This could be a wild flower, an interesting looking leaf or even a pretty butterfly (if it sits still for long enough!)

You can then use the drawing as a memory of your family day out, and hang them in your kid’s bedrooms, or even use them as a card to give to someone.

Take pictures

Get your camera out and start taking photos. If you don’t want to worry about damaging your expensive goods – get some disposable cameras for the day. Because they’re so cheap, everyone could have a camera each to do with what they wish. This a very cool idea as children tend to have a completely different perspective on things, and they may just take some incredible looking photos of things that maybe you never even thought of. It’s exciting because you don’t know what you’re getting until the pictures are printed out!

A picnic

Now, who doesn’t love a good old picnic? And you don’t need much. Get a few blankets (depending on how many of you there is!) And bring some ready made sandwiches, salads and some naughty snacks of course.

After you’ve been walking for a while, find a nice looking tree to sit under, or if there’s water, like a stream or a small lake, cop a squat there and enjoy sharing food with one another under the sun.

Stop, listen and take it in

It’s a wonderful idea to take a moment to really appreciate where you are, so once in awhile, tell everyone to stop what they’re doing, stop talking and just listen. What can you all hear?

Ask your children to tell you what kind of noises there are, and what do they think is making them.

Keep your eyes open

Tell your children to be alert at all times. Examine the floor and the pretty plants, and the big tall trees. Touch them; feel the different textures and look at any wildlife that may be lurking around. See if you can spot buds that are sprouting through the ground, getting ready to blossom into something beautiful.

Another way you can encourage this is by playing a game of ‘I Spy.’

Bird watching

Some kids may not see the ‘fun’ side of this, so it’s your job to make it something a lot more exciting than it’s expected to be. Instead of using the ‘boring’ traditional bird book – print out some of your own pictures off the web and take them out with you. You can also make a checklist with the different breeds on. Then you can make your day out a bird catching quest, where you trek through the forest trying to locate the birds in your photos, crossing them off one by one as you do.

Collect the trash

A wonderful thing that you can do is come equipped with some trash bags and rubber gloves. Sure, the mess wasn’t made by you, but showing your children that you care about the environment and that you are willing to do some of the dirtier jobs in order to make it flourish again, is a very lovely message to put out there. And you could be saving lives for the furry friends that live in the forest too. You would be surprised about how many animals actually get hurt and killed because of litter lying around that they end up getting stuck in and aren’t able to escape.

Go and collect firewood

It may only be the early days of summer, but logs need time to dry out properly, so they are suitable for burning when the winter swings round. So doing this in advance is a great way to prepare for the colder months. Have a look online for the best log splitter for homeowners. You will then be able to cut the wood yourself with ease, and show your kids what it means to be sustainable and use what you have, without wasting what you don’t need.

Play games

Make sure that everyone is having fun and the kids aren’t getting bored. Children have a short attention span at times, and so you will want to keep their energy up and make it an awesome day out for them. If this means taking five minutes out to play tag, or have the best game of hide and seek ever – so be it. (Yes, parents, you can absolutely peek through your fingers when your children go off to hide – we wouldn’t expect otherwise!)

Design a scavenger hunt

Pack some things in your bag and then use them to hide around an area within the forest. Make a list of what you have hidden, and then your kids can cross them off as they go.

If you didn’t want to have to pack more than you needed though, you could use what’s already around you. Have a look for some interesting twigs and rocks, show your kids and let them inspect them for a couple of minutes, and then go and hide them! Even if you aren’t able to remember exactly what you hid, it’ll be a funny game to play.

Do some homework

If you’re feeling extra sneaky, you can even incorporate some of those dreaded maths equations and tricky words to spell along your adventure. If you packed some sweets, these could be given out if the answer is answered correctly. So don’t tell anyone what you’re doing, just shout out a word or a sum and see what happens. If someone gives you the response you were looking – give them some candy.

You could even go as far as coming up with a silly song to help them remember the correct answers.

Walking is great exercise

Not only is walking together and discovering an area a lovely thing to do as a family. But the benefits it has on your health are too good to miss out on.

Walking gets the heart pumping and the blood flowing, so you are essentially improving your circulation while keeping fit. But it isn’t just a physical thing either – getting out in the fresh air and going for a walk can clear the mind and relax any tension you may have. It also releases endorphins within your brain that make you feel good.  And it works exactly the same for your children too. They may not be aware of certain things how you would be, but their bodies will be working the same way.

Make it a family tradition

If this goes down well, and your children really enjoy the day out – make it into a regular thing – a tradition even! Things like this stay with a child forever, and one day when they are older, and they have their own family, they may just carry that tradition on. Family is such an important thing and should be cherished and nurtured, so being able to create memories like this from an early age can have some really positive impacts on your little one’s lives.

ghostbusters-answer-the-call-extended-editionI didn’t get a chance to see GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL EXTENDED EDITION when it was in theaters so I’m excited that it is now on Blu-ray and DVD. My girls and I can’t wait to watch it with our friends this weekend. It stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth (drool!). Even more exciting, the extended edition has more than 15 minutes not seen in theaters plus more than four hours of bonus features, including deleted scenes and gag reels. It’s the perfect movie for Halloween time which is one of my favorite times of the year.

been-boodHalloween is a time for everyone to feel like a kid again. Now that I have my own children I love that I can to share in their excitement as we decorate our house, buy candy, and plan their Halloween costumes. Another fun tradition is to “Boo” one of our friends by surprising them with a bucket full of goodies on their doorstep.

I teamed up with Walmart to surprise one of my daughters’ friends with a special BOO bucket filled with goodies. My girls picked their friend’s favorite treats and left the bucket in front of her door for her to find when she came home from school. She was so surprised and had no idea who gave it to her.  Giving to others without getting anything in return was a great lesson for my girls. I found out from my daughters’ friend that she plans to Boo It Forward to a little boy in our neighborhood who has autism. I’m so proud of my girls for starting the Boo It Forward chain in our neighborhood. Want to start one in yours? Check out to learn more and get free printables to help you #BooItForward. Swashbuckling Fun on the Bluefoot Pirate Family Adventures in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Disclosure- We sailed for free on the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure in exchange for this review. All opinions are 100% our own.20160723_145900

Bluefoot Pirate AdventuresThere are many hidden treasures in South Florida and we recently discovered one. Last weekend my family and I went on a Bluefoot Pirate Family Adventures children’s pirate cruise around the Intercoastal in Fort Lauderdale. When you first pull up to the dock the first thing you’ll notice is the big black and yellow ship flying a pirate flag. Upon arriving at the dock children can get their face painted and don pirate gear. The face painting is included in the price of the cruise and children can borrow a pirate themed vest to wear for the duration of the cruise. Want to get even more dressed for the part of pirate? For $7.50 you can purchase a Junior Pirate Pack which includes a plastic sword, eye patch, and pink or black bandana. They also have other goodies for sale.20160723_145508 My girls are almost 11 and 13 which, in my opinion is a little past the target age range for this adventure so they were too embarrassed to get their faces painted and dress up like pirates. TWEENS! I think the experience is perfect for pirates 10 and under. My girls might not have wanted to become pirates but that didn’t stop my husband form joining in the fun and getting his face painted.

Once we got on the ship the 1st Mate taught the little pirates the parts of the ship and some pirate speak as well as an enchanting tale of stole treasure. Meanwhile the adults got comfortable in the back of the ship while enjoying the cool breezes and the tales told by the captain of the history of many of the gorgeous houses that are passed along the voyage. It was very cloudy when we sailed so I didn’t need to put sunscreen on my girls but the kids do sit in the front of the ship where it is uncovered so make sure to bring sunscreen with you. If you get thirsty they do have water available for sale so bring a little cash with you.

My girls felt that they were too old to participate in all the pirate adventure but they both enjoyed cruising down the Intercoastal and looking at the beautiful houses and other boats along the way. I wish I had taken them on this adventure when they were younger. I know they would have really enjoyed it as much as all the young kids who were on our cruise did.

The expressions on the little faces when the “villain” Barnacle Bill sailed past us were priceless. They all got into character and were so excited to shoot the water cannons at Barnacle Bill to defeat him and get the treasure. My younger daughter stopped being a “too old tween” for a moment and had fun shooting the water cannon, too. 😉

The 1st Mate gives a thumbs up as Barnacle Bill surrenders to the little pirates.20160723_153619Once the special key is discovered, the treasure chest is opened to reveal the booty! Each child gets a baggie of booty (plastic coins and gems) to take home with them and a certificate to remember their adventure.

Even with my girls thinking they were too old, in the end they both admitted to having fun and we all enjoyed the cruise. As an added bonus when you go on the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure you can park by the Bahia Mar hotel for just $5 for the whole day. We took advantage of this and brought our beach gear with us. When we got off the pirate ship we were able to walk across the street and enjoy Ft. Lauderdale beach!
