Your wedding is probably one of the most important days in your mother’s life. She is as excited as you are. Also, there is a lot of stress that goes in her head while hosting a party or planning for yours and her mother of the bride dresses.

There are some things which you should never say to the mother of bride or groom to maintain that peace and stress-free atmosphere during the wedding. Scroll down to find those.

·       You Should Not Come to the Hen (Bachelorette) Party:

You might have planned for a hen (bachelorette) party with your sexy girls in the most happening clubs of the town. This party can get a little tricky if you have invited male models or stripers too! It is obvious that you will not want your or your mother-in-law to attend this party. But it’s not wise to simply kick them out.

They will feel disrespected; you should never say this to your moms that they can’t attend the hen party. Instead, you can arrange a separate spa session or shopping ride for them so that they can also enjoy and buy their mother of the bride dresses.

·       Do Not Choose This Dress:

Never say your mom that the dress she has chosen is not good or she cannot wear that. A mother also gets excited with the thought of shopping for mother of the bride dresses.

She might select a pretty gown and show you or want suggestions from you. But at this point, if you say that the gown doesn’t go with the overall theme of the wedding or the colors of bridesmaid dresses, you will end up hurting her.

Some of the moms who have heavy weighted body are concerned about plus size mother of the bride dresses. You can help them purchasing one.

·       I Am Not a Child:

A marriage takes along many responsibilities and planning with it. There is so much to plan for, mistakes tend to happen. You may face constant criticisms from your mother in law or your mom. They might not like some things that you do or they may want you to follow some traditions.

If you tell them that you are not a child now, they will feel bad and can get more upset especially at the time when they are already loaded with emotions.

·       It Is My Wedding:

Of course, this is your wedding, everybody knows that. But telling this to your mom is not wise enough. You are lucky enough that you get to plan everything about your wedding; probably your mom did not get this chance.

Every bride gets to plan and take decisions related to her wedding now. But that doesn’t mean you will refuse to take any good suggestions from your moms. You cannot throw them away or keep them aside from planning certain things. Involve them and make them feel good instead!

·       You Look Bulky Now:

This is the worst thing that a daughter would probably say to her mom. Not every woman has time to take care of her fitness and go to the gym daily. As a result, they may look heavy and find it difficult to find a gown that fits them. Plan a shopping trip with them to shop for plus size mother of the bride dresses to show that you care!

5 Things You Never Expected About Japan

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Japan is a thoroughly advanced, post-industrial society that still takes the lead in many key tech areas. However, they’re definitely not like other similarly highly developed countries for a number of reasons. Here are just a few of the surprising things you’d never expect.

1.) Credit cards aren’t used everywhere

The numerous konbini and supermarkets may accept credit cards. But you’re taking your chances at the local izakaya. Credit card acceptance is definitely far higher than it used to be. However, many older establishments (and many are literally centuries old) may not accept credit cards or debit cards.

This issue is more acute in the countryside. Travelers used to using credit cards for everything in their home countries may be well advised to exchange more currency than they expect to use. In any case, there’s not much of a compelling reason to use credit cards in Japan, unless you seriously need to have a record of all your transactions.

2.) There are very few public trash cans

This can perplex visitors, as the streets tend to be spotlessly clean. However, you won’t generally find trash cans out in most public areas. The Japanese are very fastidious about sorting their trash, so most trash is usually held onto, then sorted and disposed of at home.  You will rarely, if ever, find trash cans out in the streets like you would in most other countries.

You will, however, find trash cans in public bathrooms and convenience stores. You will also find receptacles near the ubiquitous vending machines, but it’s strictly for the contents of those machines, and you will be perceived negatively for using them for other types of trash.

It’s also for this reason you don’t see Japanese eat out in the street as often as you would see people in other countries – though for some reason, drinking alcohol in public is fine. In most cases, the Japanese are likely to eat their snacks standing near wherever they bought them so they can use the provided trash receptacles.

3.) There are very few open wifi hotspots

In contrast to most developed countries where free wifi hotspots are virtually everywhere, these are a rarity in Japan. Any open wifi hotspots are also likely to be disappointingly choppy and slow. This often leaves frustrated visitors with high roaming charges whenever they use their service provider’s international roaming services.

To avoid high roaming charges, we recommend renting a pocket wifi device from a company like Japan Wifi Buddy so you can enjoy Japan’s famous high-speed internet infrastructure as soon as you land.

4.) Drinking in public is acceptable

While it may be frowned upon to drink in public, most people will just give it a pass. Unlike in many other countries, drinking in public is completely legal in Japan, and it’s not unusual to see individuals or groups of people enjoying a beer in a park. There are also numerous alcohol vending machines all over the country, where almost anyone can just buy alcohol. Drinking in public is also an accepted part of the many outdoor festivals held throughout the country.

We don’t recommend you do this outside of a group of local friends. However, regardless if you do this alone or in a group, do your best to remain respectful at all times.

5.) Several medicines we take for granted are illegal

Many medicines people in other countries take for granted are illegal in Japan. The list is too long to include, but it covers many popular allergy and asthma medications that contain any stimulant, such as pseudoephedrine. This makes it important to bring your doctor’s prescriptions and a note explaining why you need it when you’re visiting the country.

A Gentleman’s Guide on Wearing a Lapel Pin

When you wear a suit, one way you can up the ante, so to speak, is to add accessories to it to make it look more suave and elegant. One accessory you should consider wearing with your suit is a lapel pin. This small yet essential piece is slowly making a comeback in fashion for men, and while usually worn only during formal occasions, can actually be used to enhance your daily attire.

What exactly is a lapel pin? The name itself is actually pretty self-explanatory. It is a pin that you wear on your coat’s lapel. A lapel is a folded flap on your suit that can be found on both sides of this clothing and is found above the buttons and below the collar. Most lapels come with a buttonhole, which is usually located on the upper-left part of your coat. This buttonhole is where you will wear your lapel pin.

Types of Lapel Pins

Lapel pins come in all shapes, sizes, designs, and colors. These can be used to enhance the look of your outfit and can even be used to distinguish who you are from a group of people wearing similar looking suits. Here are some of the more common lapel pins that people wear in their buttonholes:

  • Boutonniere – you will usually see this worn on lapels in formal events, like weddings, balls, and other similar situations. These are often one or two flowers in a small bouquet-like shape inserted into the buttonhole and held in place with the use of pins.
  • Floral pin – this sometimes takes the place of a boutonniere, and it’s often made out of fabric. The fabrics that can be used to create floral pins include silk, satin, linen, and cotton. Some of the floral pins are even made using satin ribbons crafted to look like flowers.
  • Stick pin – these are usually made using metal, with the more popular choices being gold, silver, platinum, and stainless steel. While it is called a “pin”, it is actually held in place with a long, thin, needle-like stem that you insert into the buttonhole. The top part of the stick pin is where you will find the design of this accessory. This is sometimes called a long-stem pin.
  • Badges – this particular suit accessory is attached to your lapel with the use of a clasp, which can be made using either metal or rubber. These usually come with a small, sharp pin which is then secured to your coat via this clasp. Badges can come in many different designs, some of which are customized to suit a specific purpose. For instance, if you are a member of a club and the members need to distinguish themselves from the rest of the world, getting a bespoke lapel pin that only members can have is usually done.

Where to Place Your Lapel Pin

The most common placement for your lapel pin is in the buttonhole on your left-side. Even when your suit comes with two buttonholes, one on each lapel, the correct placement for a lapel pin is always on the left-hand one. If your suit or coat does not have a buttonhole, you should still wear these on the same approximate spot where a buttonhole should be.

The lapel is not the only place where you can wear a lapel pin however. These days, fashion can let you get away with putting this pin on other parts of your outfit. For example, if you are not wearing a jacket but want to show the world that you are part of a select group of people with your club lapel pin, you can still wear this on your tie or on the left collar of your dress shirt. You can also choose to wear this on your coat alongside other pins that show your affiliation.

When to Wear Your Lapel Pin

These days, you can wear your lapel pin any time you want. Fashion can let you get away with doing what you want and to accessorize whenever you want. With that said, however, if you want to follow the traditional rules of lapel pin use, there are some instances when these should actually be used.

Formal occasions, like weddings, balls, and other similar social events often require you to wear a lapel pin to enhance your look. Boutonnieres are often used with tuxedos while decorative lapel pins are usually chosen for suits worn on other special events. You can also wear a lapel pin with your business suit, particularly if you want to show that you are representing an organization at an event.

Conclusion

A lapel pin these days is more versatile than it was in the olden days. While it can still be used as a badge to show affiliations and achievements, it can also now be worn as a mere accessory that enhances what you wear. It all comes down to your own discretion when you wear it, with what you wear it with, and why you wear it.

Tips On Writing A Great Birth Plan

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

In the distant past, laboring mothers were expected to give birth without any particular preparation and with little help. As time has gone on, the medical world has come to realize that the more preparation a mother does before the birth, the easier it can be. This is why birth plans are such a good idea – they offer mothers (and their partners and friends and family) the chance to really think about the birth itself, and come up with their own ideas of how they will feel happiest when it comes time to go into labor.

Here are some useful tips for you to help you write a great birth plan; you don’t need to follow them all, as each plan is unique, but they should help you have an idea of what to include.

  1. Don’t Use A Pre-Printed Form

You can download a variety of different pre-printed birthing plans from the internet, but these aren’t always such a good idea. They won’t include everything that you want, or there might be sections that are included that simply aren’t necessary, and only go onto confuse rather than assist.

Writing your own plan means that you have a lot more control from the start, and it also means that you won’t be including information or details that aren’t really relevant.

  1. Pain Management Research

You might have an idea in your head that you definitely do or do not want to be given certain types of pain relief. Do these ideas come from proper research? If not, they should do – you might be mistaken in your ideas about what the pain relief does, and how it affects you.

Before making a final decision about the pain relief that may be offered and including your instructions in your birth plan, make sure you look into all the options so that you are completely informed and are making the right choice for you.

  1. Key Names And Numbers

Your birth plan can be a truly useful document for not only you, but the medical team delivering your baby as well. By including all the important names and phone numbers in your plan, they will know who to contact without having to disturb you when you’re resting or in labor. These names could include:

  • Your birthing partner
  • The baby’s father (if different)
  • The baby’s name (if known)
  • Your obstetrician
  • Anyone you don’t want to be informed of the labor or birth

This will help you to stay in control and will allow your midwife to do their job efficiently.

  1. Contingency Plans

It’s important to remember that while many births are absolutely uneventful, some won’t go according to plan, and this is why contingencies are a good idea. You might, for example, need to have a c-section, so it’s important to note down what your wishes are should this be the case. Or perhaps you will require an episiotomy, and you should know whether you want to decline this or not. Speak to your doctor about all the different outcomes and try to have a plan for each one. If you find that you suffer complications during the birth, you may find you need to reach out to a leading solicitor for birth injuries, who can help you claim the compensation you deserve.

A birth plan can help you prepare for what is bound to be an exhilarating, emotional time, that may bring you stress but will inevitably bring you plenty of joy as well. A little preparation is all that is needed to make your birth experience as relaxed and stress-free as possible.

Adding Value To Your Home

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

There are a lot of reasons why you might want to add some considerable value to your home. It could be that you are thinking of selling at some point in the near future – or even the relatively far future – and you want to make sure that you can get as much as possible for your home. Or you might just be thinking about the long-term, and perhaps even something like leaving your home to your children after you have gone. Whatever the underlying impetus, adding value to your home is something that you can always do, and which is always going to be a possibility. If you know what you are doing, it might even be quite a simple thing to achieve. In this post, we are going to look at a few things which might help you to add value to your home much more effectively.Image Source

Get An Initial Value

It’s a great idea to get a value before you even start doing anything to your home. First of all, you want to know where you stand, and what kind of starting point you are at. You will also want to know how much you have actually added, which you can only do by getting it valued first of all before you do anything. What’s more, if you hire professionals like William Pitt to come and value your home, you might find that you also get to hear some pieces of advice as to how you might be able to add as much value as possible to your home. In short, they are likely to know what they are talking about, and as such you will find it gives you a great incentive to carry on as well as a good means of planning out what you are going to do.

One Thing At A Time

You might come away from that meeting with an overwhelming feeling that you need to do a lot of things in order to add some value to your home. However, it is likely to be a bad idea to do too much at once. This will only mean that you can put less effort into each thing, and it is much more likely to be a good idea to take it one thing at a time instead. Start with something relatively small, and work your way up. This trick will also help you save money, as you will know what you are budgeting and what to expect.Image Source

DIY
You can also expect things to be considerably easier if you do as much of it yourself as you possibly can. Any amount of money you can save on the labour is likely to help, so you will want to do things this way as best as you can if you are trying to go for the cheapest means possible. That will also mean you are getting more financially, of course, as you will be spending less but adding more to your property’s value. Do whatever work you can yourself, and it will really help.

It’s finally here! These are always my favorite posts of the year. The 2019 Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Slate is here and it looks SOOOO good!!! There are several live action adaptations of childhood favorites (Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King), two Marvel Studios movies (Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame), Disneynature (Penguins), several sequels (Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, and Star Wars Episode IX) and more! It looks like 2019 is going to be a great year for family movies.

Which one are you most excited about? If I had to pick I would say Avengers: Endgame because I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next. I watched Avengers: Infinity War again this weekend and of course cried at the end so I can’t wait for the sequel. I am also excited for Aladdin as the animated version was always one of my favorites. Of course Toy Story 4 and The Lion King are on my list, too. And Captain Marvel because I’m excited to see a Marvel movie with a female lead.

When you become a parent, your child’s health and happiness becomes your number one priority. It’s our life’s mission to keep them safe, and ensure they have the best start so they’re able to go off into the world and become productive members of society. However, raising kids is never easy, we all make mistakes and with often conflicting information it can be difficult to put advice into practice. This post aims to give you tips that are achievable in the real world, and will all contribute to a healthier family. Read on to find out more!source

Eat together as a family

One of the most beneficial things you can do for your family’s health is to eat together most nights a week. There are lots of reasons for this, the first being that home cooked food tends to be healthier than anything you can order in or convenience food. You can sneak in extra vegetables, you can limit salt and sugar and you know exactly what’s gone into it. When your children see you filling up on delicious, healthy meals they’re likely to mirror your habits in time, and dinner time is a great chance to set an example to them. Another reason that eating together is good for your family is that it’s a chance to spend quality time together. When you and your partner are off at work all day, your youngest is in nursery and older kids are at school it means you’re all going your separate ways for most of the day. Eating dinner together is a chance to catch up, to keep bonds strong. It’s so beneficial that studies have shown that families that eat together regularly tend to have less instances of teenage pregnancies and substance abuse. It’s all down to the fact that this time together means you’re likely to be closer and have a better relationship with your kids. This can mean there’s more of a chance they’ll open up and speak to you about any issues instead of giving straight into peer pressure. We all know that kids and teens can be fussy with food, so it’s worth coming up with a repertoire of meals that you all like. Big, one pot meals like stews, bolognese and chilli are family favourites and can save you on the washing up! Utilise your slow cooker, this can save you both time and money as you can use cheaper cuts of meat which become tender when cooked low and slow. Add some potatoes, veggies and meat to the pot in the morning, and by the evening you have a tasty and healthy home cooked meal that you’ve not had to slave over.

Find ways you can all get active

This day in age, it can be more difficult to encourage kids to be active. Before, pure boredom would have meant they’d be up playing in the garden or out on their bikes, skateboards or roller skates and burning calories. However, these days, kids have access to the world at their fingertips and getting them away from their screens can be a struggle. The best thing you can do is find exercise that’s genuinely fun. If your kids are younger, take them to a trampoline park or take them to events that have bouncy castles- this kind of activity can be incredibly tiring but lots of fun! Parks, games such as frisbee and sports you can play as a family can also be a fun way to get you all active. Even days out where you’re doing a lot of walking counts. You could go on family bike rides or hikes with your dog, have water fights in the summer, make up fun games and combine family bonding time and activity into one. If kids see exercise as boring or a slog they’re not going to want to do it. So find ideas that are genuinely enjoyable and get them up and moving.

Utilize health monitoring technology

There are so many health tracking apps and types of technology these days. Things like fitness trackers are good, they can keep you motivated and give an accurate insight as to just how much you’re doing. Best of all, there are trackers that are designed specifically for kids. As you can all add each other and see your activity, a bit of healthy competition can push you all to do even more. Using gadgets like smart scales that can sync your weight to an app is another way you can keep track of the health of your family. Your aim should be to ensure you’re all within your correct BMI range, and if you’re not, take steps to get there in a healthy way. While health checkups at the doctor are always going to be essential for your young family, there’s plenty you can do at home in between visits to make sure you’re all on track.

Work on a good sleep routine

As parents you’ll be well aware of how tricky bedtime can be when you have kids and teens. We know the importance of a good night’s sleep and how crucial it is for their growing bodies, but getting them to sleep when they should can be an ongoing issue. However, it’s something that you’ll need to continue working on and being firm with. Come up with a regime that works for you as a family, with young children this can involve a bath and story routine before bed. With teens, it can involve cutting off the wifi an hour before bed and encouraging reading instead. Research has well established that looking at screens prior to going to bed can affect the body’s ability to wind down, this is because light is a powerful ‘wake up’ cue to the brain. The light emitted from screens in particular can prevent melatonin (the sleep hormone) from being released properly. Set a time each day to go to bed and stick to it, letting them stay up for the occasional extra half hour means they’ll always try their luck and ask you! If they know it’s simply not an option and bedtime means bedtime, they should eventually get into the habit of going to bed when they’re asked.

Focus on relaxation

It’s easy to think that children don’t have a care in the world, and so relaxation exercises are pointless. But it’s simply not true, the world can actually be very stressful and scary for kids and teens. From pressures at school to friends and budding relationships, undergoing physical changes and much more it can leave them feeling stressed and anxious. Think about it, as adults we’ve settled into a routine, but when you’re young you’re forever learning new things, going to new groups, trying new hobbies, meeting new people and generally undergoing change all the time. As adults we know when we’re getting stressed and have coping techniques to remedy this, but children and teens won’t be aware of this. Teach them relaxation techniques, from breathing and meditation to taking a relaxing bath. Journalling can be useful as well as exercise, and also letting them know they can speak to you and open up about anything bothering them. Recognise the signs of stress, it could be nail biting, going quiet or being over emotional. Help them to understand these signs in themselves and show them ways to deal with these feelings of stress or anxiety.

Take some training or a qualification

Would you know what to do in a medical emergency if one of your family members was hurt, collapsed or was suffering with a serious illness? We’re lucky to live in a part of the world where the emergency services and healthcare is excellent, but in some scenarios it’s worth knowing how to respond instantly until they arrive. In the case of choking or extreme bleeding for example, every second counts. Sign up for a first aid course, these are courses you can take which specify in first aid for children. There are also courses aimed at children and young people which they can undertake themselves, and can give you peace of mind knowing they have some basic knowledge in this area. If you wanted to go a step further you could even study for a formal qualification. Things like online fnp programs can be studied in a flexible way- part time and from home so are ideal for parents. Many people take online courses as a way to improve of change career, but it could be something you do just because you’re interested in it- and because it benefits your family. Studying can also be good for your own mental health, as parents are own goals are often overlooked and we can feel like we’re stagnating. Study helps to build our skills and keep us sharp.

If you think that 2019 might be the year that your family gets a pet, then there are so many reasons why it can be good for families with children. It can help to foster confidence in children, as well as help them to deal with things like anxiety better as well. But did you know that a dog can do wonders for your health too? There are many benefits to getting a dog and it can be so very rewarding. If you need a little more convincing, then here are some of the benefits that come from being a dog owner.image

Heart Health

Having a dog can make your heart feel more full as it is something else in your life to love and care for. But on a practical level, having a dog can actually help to improve the health of your heart. Having a dog companion is related to having low blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels that both play a massive part in your overall health and heart health. When you have lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol, you are at much lower risk of having a heart attack.

Fitness Levels

One piece of advice for dog owners is that you should get out and about and play with your dog as much as possible. So with that in mind, it shows that keeping active and improving your fitness levels is something that can happen when you have a dog. They will want to be out and about, running around and being played with, so you will need to be doing the same. This kind of activity is great throughout our lives as walking is pretty low impact, but can help us as we age to keep our strength up and keep our muscles and joints working as they should be.

Social Life

It can be harder and harder to get out and meet people, especially as we get older or move to new areas. But with a dog, there are many opportunities to meet other people and be more social. From puppy training classes, to just chatting in the park, there are more reasons to be social when you have a dog. Dog walkers speak to each other out on walks, so it can be a good way to meet local people. All of which can be good for you; your mental health especially.

Reduction in Stress

There is a reason why many people get a pet for therapy, and why therapy pets are a thing. When you spend time with a dog, it can help to reduce your anxiety levels, bring your blood pressure down, and help to make you feel overall more happy, as your happy hormones are increased. It has also been shown that people perform stressful tasks better when they have a dog around them, so it can be a great way to ease tension in your life and be a great way to reduce your stress levels (having a knock-on impact to your health).
