Apple Glazed Rib Feast

Apple glazed ribs are a great spin on barbeque rib recipes which are a typical summer go to! Ribs can be smoked or grilled in any season of the year. However, it is important to choose top quality ribs.

Grilling experts choose Smithfield St. Louis Style Pork Spare Ribs, membrane removed, for best results.

To start your apple glazed rib feast, decide whether your tastes lean toward hot and spicy or mild flavored glazes. It is also important to note ribs can be marinated overnight in the refrigerator in apple glazes to deepen the apple flavor of the ribs.

Apple Glazed Rib Recipe

Serves four to six:

Preheat the grill or smoker to a lower temperature around 300 degrees. Choose apple wood for smokers and dampened apple wood chips for grills.

Ingredients:

2 slabs of Smithfield® St. Louis Style Pork Spareribs

1/2 cup of apple butter or apple preserves

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup melted butter or margarine

1/2 cup apple cider or apple brandy (as desired)

2 tablespoons molasses

1 tablespoon apple pie spice

1/8 teaspoon coriander spice

For more heat, add 1/2 cup finely chopped jalapenos seeded

Directions:

  • Place Smithfield St. Louis Style Pork Spare Ribs in smoker or grill, meatiest sides down for one half hour.
  • While ribs are cooking, prepare the glaze. Glaze can be prepared the day before to enrich the flavor.
  • Blend spices and dry ingredients first to ensure they are well incorporated.
  • In a small bowl, whisk apple butter or preserves with apple cider or apple brandy and molasses until well blended.
  • In a separate smaller bowl, whisk apple cider vinegar and melted butter or margarine until it thickens slightly. Add this to the other liquid ingredients.
  • Gradually whisk in dry ingredients. Allow to stand overnight or for at least one half hour prior to use.
  • Remove spare ribs from smoker or grill and place on a sheet of aluminum foil large enough to cover ribs. Brush half of the glaze onto the ribs evenly. Pull foil over the ribs and return to smoker or grill and cook for approximately two hours at moderate temperature.
  • About five minutes before ribs are completely cooked to tenderness, brush the remaining half of the glaze onto the ribs, cover with foil and raise the temperature to medium high and allow to cook until the glaze becomes shiny.
  • To serve, remove the foil from the ribs and plate. Garnish with smoked or grilled apple jelly glazed apples, such as a combination of Granny Smith, Gala and Mcintosh Reds for a spectacularly colorful presentation.

Apple Glazed Ribs are in Season

When apples are harvested in late summer and early fall, serve apple glazed ribs for an autumn dinner or the last barbecue of the season.

Try to balance apple glazed ribs on your menu with other seasonal vegetables like fire roasted or smoked peppers, turnips, sweet potatoes or baking potatoes.

Be sure to offer garnishes for these vegetable side dishes like garlic butter and sour cream.

Is It Already Time To Plan Your Christmas Cards?

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

You’ve just packed your flip-flops away and are still hanging onto your short skirts and tees for another few weeks. You don’t want to wave goodbye to the summer. Unfortunately, it’s over now. Does it mean you should be thinking about Christmas already? Technically, now is the best time to start planning your Christmas greetings. Indeed, things will begin to move very quickly towards the end of the year. Halloween is only a few weeks away. Then you need to plan for Thanksgiving, and finally, Christmas is just around the corner. In other words, the earlier you start taking some items off your to-do list, the easier it’ll be for you in the long term. Ultimately, the last trimester of the year is packed with celebrations and stress. While it might be a little early still to buy all the presents, now is the perfect time to get ready with the preps that can be started well ahead of the celebrations. In other words: Get your Christmas greeting cards ready now!

Photo credit- When should you send your snowy wishes?

Why start so early?

If you have a large family with five or more children, it’s fair to say that it takes a lot of work to get organized. Ultimately, it can be tricky to get everybody on the same picture – for your Christmas cards – especially when your kids have an agenda packed with activities. Between kids who train regularly with sports clubs, or kids who are attending college, you might need to set a date for your family photography well in advance! Admittedly, it’s fair to say that families with young children don’t need to start very early. If you have a baby or a toddler, it’s best to take the picture as late as possible as your child will change a lot in a short time. However, you can have a go at making a list of all the people you want to send the cards to; this will ensure you can check prices.

Choose your props together

Christmas cards are the fun time of the year where you can be creative. There are plenty of exciting card themes that you can do with kids – Silent night where you silence the kids is a classic for families with young children, for instance. You can also have a playful mug shot of the family, promising Santa that you can explain the misbehavior of the year. For older kids, you might want to pick a more general Christmas feel with women’s Christmas sweaters and hats for everyone. Ultimately, you’ll need to find your props ahead of the photo shooting.

When’s the right time to send your cards?

When should you ideally send your cards? You need to consider that most Christmas cards are sent just after Thanksgiving. Some families follow the advent calendar, and consequently, your card should arrive between four and three weeks before Christmas. If you add a couple of weeks for the production and the addition of a handwritten note on each card, you should be ready to order your cards by early November at the latest!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, get all your photos! Don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s too early to plan Christmas. Starting now gives you just enough time to pick a theme and all the props you need to make your greeting cards work.

The Spirit Of Giving

If there is any quality that embodies the holiday season, you’ll find that nothing sums it all up quite like the spirit of giving. We give so much to others every day without realizing it. We give a smile to each other as we are traveling. We give our time to friends and family when we speak to them. We give our dedication and hard work to our employers. But during the holiday season, we look to give some things that are a little more tangible.

It can be difficult to look for gifts. We want the things we give to people to be memorable, to be appreciated, and to be used. Too many gifts end up in the regifting pile for next year’s festivities and that is the last thing we want our hard earned money to be going towards. This year, we have some unique gifts that are certain to bring joy to the receiver and be used all year ‘round.

Give the gift of your time

Time is the one precious commodity we have that can never be replaced. It is a wonderful thing to spend your money on a present that will be lasting, but when you give your time, you are giving of yourself. This season, give the gift of yourself by considering donating some of your time to a local charity. Habitat 4 Humanity is a great charity to work with, they do what they can to provide housing in low-income areas. That means families that need housing will be getting what they need because of you. That’s a gift that will keep giving for years to come.

Give the gift of productivity

Speaking of time, if you spend a lot of time in the office, you know that productivity is always a challenge. You’re looking for a way to become more efficient and get more done at every turn, and that never seems to come to an end. Every productivity junkie knows that there is one way to get everything done, and to keep your focus on the project to completion: good old-fashioned caffeine. For you and all your fellow caffeine addicts, consider getting Anthony’s Espresso machine. It’ll keep you zipping around the office and help you get those halls decked in no time flat.

Give the gift of security

We love to buy things that have value because we believe that we will be able to pass that value along to the people who are important to us. We invest in homes that we do our best to preserve the value of. We place money into stocks, bonds, and other safe places to ensure that we will have our assets protected. When you give the gift of precious metal or security through a gold bullion depository you are giving the gift of assets that are able to be protected so you can pass that value on.

No matter what you choose to give this season, you’ll be giving it with a full heart. That’s the main thing we need to do this season and every season.

Planning a long trip and choosing a car as your mode of transport is quite a daring combination one can do. Going on a trip in your own car has its own pros and cons, so when planning to take a long trip in your car, you need to plan things well in advance, and it is not only packing your stuff but many other things that will affect your trip in different ways. Planning your road trip well in advance will help you make it infinitely better and you will be able to enjoy it to the fullest. We are here to give you some tips on how you can make your road trip an unforgettable one.

Here are 6 tips you should remember when planning to travel by car.

  • Packing – you should always do your packing according to the boot space that your car has to offer. You should always follow the mantra, ‘less is more’. No one wants to carry heavy bags with them on a vacation or keep looking for things in the overcrowded suitcases. A bit of research will help you learn about the weather of the place you are planning to visit and it will give you an idea about what type of clothes you should pack. Also, a light car gives more mileage, so avoiding heavy bags will help you save a lot on fuel.

  • Watch your sleep time – You should take proper sleep at least two to three days before the commencement of the journey as it will help you build your sleep cycle and will help you avoid drowsiness while driving.

  • Choose the right vehicle – You should always select a car that you are comfortable with. Budget can be an issue, and it might stop you from getting yourself your dream car, but in the long run, it will be very beneficial. To get your desired car, you can also take an auto loan. Probably by now, you have thought of it but you’ve been clueless about how you can get a car loan.

  • Anticipate your problems – While on a road trip, you should be prepared for every possible worst-case scenario. You should go with the motto ‘more is more’, as the more prepared you are, the less time it will take you to fix the problem and get back on the road. You should have your insurance information with you at all time, and if driving a rental car, you should always have the minimum insurance that is required in the country.

  • Travel gadgets and accessories – You should always rent a car which has all the latest technology features, and if not, you yourself should be carrying at least some amount of travel gadgets that are helpful in any trip. The most important gadget, without a doubt on a road trip is a GPS. Renting a GPS in a foreign country is all the more helpful as one doesn’t know the routes there and is also not familiar with the roads and the traffic.

  • Plan your route – There is no right way to map out the route you’ll follow in your journey. You should always plan your route because that way, you will be less stressed as there will be no confusion as to what path you have to follow. Planning your route will also help you build your itinerary in a more detailed manner, giving you a better understanding of the place.

Conclusion –

Planning your road trip well in advance will always help you to stay a step ahead of all the possible problems one can face during a road trip. While on the road, you are responsible for yourself. We hope that these tips are helpful to you, and if you are planning a road trip, be careful, be safe and good luck.

Packing for a move can feel like a daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be. You can hire a mover such as Bekins Moving Solutions local movers to help you out. There are also things you can do yourself to make the process easier. There are so many different things to consider when planning to pack up your home to move to a new house, from inventorying the items you’ll take to planning out the logistics of the move itself. Luckily there are a few simple steps you can take to make packing a little less painful. Consider these tips to pack for a move like a pro.

Use Labels

The key to staying sane while packing for a move is organization. Start by creating a labeling system to help you keep your boxes organized throughout the moving process. Not only will this help make packing a little easier (because you’ll know what goes in which box), but it will also make unpacking simpler too. Be sure to use specific labels on each box so you’ll know exactly what’s inside when you get to your new home. In addition to including the room where to box belongs, also add details about what’s inside so you won’t have to search through each box to find what you’re looking for when you arrive.

Protect Your Items

One of the most important aspects of packing you need to consider is how you will ensure your fragile items make it safely to your new home. Be sure to use high quality packing products, including thick, sturdy boxes, bubble wrap and packing paper, and strong packing tape. You should also be sure to reinforce your boxes with two strips of tape on each seam and create a cushion for fragile items by lining your boxes with bubble wrap or packing paper. Finally, label each box with fragile items to make sure you handle those boxes with care while moving.

Pack by Room

To keep from getting overwhelmed and stay organized, pack your house room by room. Start by packing up rooms of your home that aren’t used often, like your dining room or office, and end with more trafficked areas, like the kitchen and bedrooms. As you pack, remember to pack similar items together in the same box and evenly space out heavier items to keep the loads manageable.

Don’t Forget About Your Health

Often times we get busy with things and we don’t take proper care of ourselves. If you are planning on doing a move yourself, make sure to stay hydrated and take care of your body. I know when I do a lot of physical activity and walking like with a big move, my feet are usually so sore and achy by the end of the day. Biopods shoe inserts provide gentle upward pressure centered in the arch area of your foot for optimum comfort every day. This would be especially comforting while on your feet all day for the big move.

Pack a Bag

Keep important items in a place separate from your moving boxes to ensure they stay safe. In addition to packing an overnight bag with some clothing and toiletries, also consider packing a bag with important documents, expensive jewelry, important family photos, and important work-related items. That way, you’ll know these precious items are safe with you, and you don’t have to worry about them getting lost in the shuffle of moving.

After you’ve moved and are settled in you might want to take a vacation to relax from the stress of moving.  Where have you always dreamed about traveling to? If you look here you just might find your next restful vacation or dream adventure.

Brain Boosting Habits for Elderly

Getting older or watching someone grow old is not always easy. To some, though, those golden years are still enjoyed as they are able to stay active and retain a good mental health – but it is, unfortunately, not necessarily in our control.

Image from: Pexels

There are a few things you can do or encourage your loved one to do that will increase the chances of maintaining their bright minds so that they’re able to share their stories for longer.

Here is a handful of the best ways to boost your brain power so that you or your loved one can stay healthy for longer.

First: Exercise is key

You probably saw this one coming; a healthy amount of exercise is really good for your brain. While you should try to get any form of exercise done a couple of times a week, there are a few forms of exercise you might want to focus on to make sure your brain is getting a proper workout.

Think about the stuff you need to put your mind into to master. Dancing, for example, high-intensity aerobics, tennis, yoga, and all forms of exercise where you need to balance more. This is great for your bone strength as well, by the way, so you might be able to enjoy both a healthy mind and a strong and able body when you’re a bit older.

There should be many opportunities to sign up for dance, yoga or aerobics classes in your area if you’re looking for something for a family member or a friend. Have a search online, and you might be able to expand their social network as well.

Next: Think about what you eat

Food and exercise go hand-in-hand, and especially when it comes to taking care of our brain as we age. It can be tough to change an elderly person’s habits, though, and you might want to have a chat with their carer, such as Seniors Helping Seniors, about implementing more brain-boosting food in their diet.

Healthy fats are great to keep your mind healthy so consider salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel as well as vegetables that are high in healthy fats. Berries and particularly blueberries are also great for this purpose, by the way, and it should be easy enough to talk them into eating more of this.

Remember to have fun

Even though food and exercise are important, one of the most important things you can do for their mental health is to be there for them and have fun together. We tend to give up a bit if we age without having anyone to keep us company – which makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

Make sure that they know that they are loved and appreciated by coming together as a family as often as possible. Play games together, watch movies and do your best to make sure that they laugh as often as possible.

That way, you’ll keep them around for longer and they’re able to stay both happy and healthy.

Winter is Coming

Fall is here, and winter is coming, meaning it’s time to get ready for darker nights and colder weather.  Whilst that sounds quite grim, in reality, this season can be one of the cosiest and most romantic seasons of the year – indeed, the prospect of battening down the hatches as the chilling breeze howls at your windows whilst you cuddle up to an open fire, watching your favourite film with some warming soup is one to be savoured.

However, in order to have such a cosy time, there are certain things that need to be taken care of at this time of year. For instance, if you want a nice warm house then now is the time to visit here and sort out replacement windows as drafty windows can be one of the leading causes of heat loss and energy inefficiency.

We often leave home maintenance tasks to the very last minute, for instance, you’ll notice in many stores that it’s only when the snow storms hit that people go out and buy grit or snow shovels whereas it makes much more sense to have this in the garage ready for when it comes.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the things you’ll want to do around your home and garden to prepare for fall.

  1. PREPARE YOUR OPEN FIRE

If you’re lucky enough to have an open fire, then you will want to get a chimney sweep to come in an clean it, as if there are any blockages these can cause chimney fires.

The reason to consider doing this task now, rather than later is that everyone puts this off – so there’s an influx of demand when the cold weather hits; meaning you might have to wait for a while before you can safely light your fire.  In addition to this, fall can be a great time to gather firewood, so now is the perfect time to gather up fallen branches and chopped down trees so that you can dry it out before using the wood in winter.

  1. TAKE CARE OF YOUR GARDEN

There are certain things within your garden that are much better to take care of when the temperature and weather is still reasonable.  Gardening in these months is much more pleasant than in the wet, cold, dark days of late autumn and there are a number of preventative measures that are worth taking in the run up to the winter weather.

For instance, it would make sense to take care of any broken tree branches now, in order to avert disaster should a storm come.  There are also certain plants that need to be planted now, in order to flower for Spring and Summer.

  1. ORGANIZE YOUR SHED

If you’re anything like most people, your shed is a mess, filled to the brim with all sorts of things that were used in summer – for instance, you might have a paddling pool, bodyboards, wetsuits, and all sorts of other summertime instruments… the last thing you want, if you’re having to go out into the garden in freezing conditions, is to have to plough through loads of stuff to get to the snow shovel or grit that’s kept at the back of the shed.  The point, therefore, is not just about clearing out your shed but organising it so that the items you’ll need for winter are easy to access.

  1. INSULATE YOUR HOME

There’s an idea that you can never have enough insulation within your home, as insulation is what saves a lot of money in the long run… indeed, being more energy efficient not only saves money but also the environment, as the less energy we use the better.

  1.  CHECK YOUR CENTRAL HEATING

It pays to check your central heating before the cold weather strikes, as often we don’t use this for many months in summer, meaning there might be unknown issues – which it pays to resolve when we don’t need the heating on rather than be stuck in an icy cold house.  It can be a good idea to bleed your radiators at this time of year too.

In summary, getting your home prepared for fall and winter requires forward planning in order to ensure smooth running when the cold weather does hit.  The last thing you want is to be without central heating, or scrambling for winter readiness equipment in a cluttered garage, battling inflatable crocodiles and surfboards to get to the de-icer spray.  Therefore, like the scouts and girl guides tell us – we just need to be “prepared”.

Providing Childcare For Grandkids In MidLife: Key Dos and Don’ts

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Many families now rely on grandparents for either full or part-time childcare when both parent go out to work. While such a set up can be a fantastic opportunity for those of us in midlife or older to spend some quality time with the grandkids, it can also be a challenging role as well. It is with this mind that I have come up with some essential dos and don’ts that can help any grandparent navigate the waters of caring for their children’s, children. Read on to find out more.

Do make it as fun as you can.

OK, so maybe you didn’t expect to be looking after you grandkids all day, every day, but the truth of it is that it’s an excellent opportunity to develop a strong bond and have a lot of fun to boot. It will be necessary, however, to put in a little effort when the kids come over and provide things that they like to do.

This may include teaching them to cook, or garden with you, as well as providing activities like painting coloring and even computer games, which are fantastic for you if you need a bit of a break as well! Of course, if you aren’t sure what they like the best thing to do is just ask them and go from there, most kids aren’t shy about telling you what their latest interest is and will want to share it you as well.

Don’t go against their parent wishes.

Next, when it comes to taking care of your children’s children, boundaries are essential. In particular, is crucial that you understand what expectations the kids’ parents have of them, and for them and keep to these as much as possible.

What this means is, that is vital you don’t fill them full of junk food and sugar if the parents have specifically asked you not to. In fact, this can cause a major issue between the adults and may mean you aren’t asked to look after the grandkids again.

Do offer to help with errands and tasks relating to the kids.

Also, it is wise to discuss which errands and tasks related to the kids that their parents would like you to be involved in. For example, many grandparents cook their meals and have them fed and changed for bed before mom and dad pick them up.

In addition, because grandparents are free in the days, it can be helpful for them to take the kids to the doctors and the pediatric dentist, as well as any other health appointments. Then mom or dad won’t need to have extra time off work or use up precious weekend moments with these sorts of tasks.

Don’t say no when you need to.

Lastly, as a grandparent, it is crucial that you learn to say no when providing childcare for your children’s children. After all, you have had your kids, and if you don’t want the little rascals around every day you are entirely within your right to say so, and you should! In fact, doing this will be better for everyone in the long run, including the grandkids because you will have more energy to invest in them when they are there.

How To Look Get Clear, Healthy & Radiant Skin

Photo by Brooke Cagle on Unsplash

If there’s one thing that you could change or improve about your appearance, what would it be? Sure, there are some women that will say their body shape, their breast size, or even the style of their hair. But, for most of us, it will always be our skin! And even if you automatically think of any one of the aforementioned options, when you then remember that you could get perfect skin – that’s what you want the most. And that’s natural. It really is. Because it’s something that covers your entire body. It’s something that we often see first. And when you’re suffering from bad skin, it can really affect your confidence. Yet, sometimes, no matter how much you concentrate on your skincare, that doesn’t change. But the good thing is that, no matter how you feel about your skin today, you can change it. It’s totally within your power to get great skin!

Now, your next question may be – how? How do I get this perfect skin that I want? How can I swap my acne or my redness or my fine lines and wrinkles for gorgeous, glowing skin? Well, the first thing to know is that it’s not an overnight process. And you may not see results instantly. But, if you’re really serious about having great skin, you can get it. If you’re ready to make it happen, here’s what you can do to finally get clear, healthy, and radiant skin.

Drink More Water

The golden rule of gorgeous skin is hydration. From the hydrating ingredients that you use on your skin, to what you’re putting into your body – it all helps. But nothing really does beat drinking enough water. The more water your drink, the healthier your skin will be. Hydration helps to plump out the skin, mask fine lines, boost radiance, clear up acne and imperfections – and what more could you ever want?

Get Quality Sleep

However, just as effective as water, is sleep. There’s a reason they call it beauty sleep. Did you know that when we sleep, our bodies heal? That restful period allows our bodies to re-energise and repair. And yes – this is excellent news for your skin. So this is why you need to make sure that you’re getting 7-9 hours of solid sleep per night. Because it’s quality sleep that will help your skin to get the glow you want.

Eat Skin Food

Another key saying in the world of beauty is, your are what you eat. And it’s so very true. The things you eat are so important. If you are filling your body with junk – it will slow. Toxins get released in your skin. So this is why the bad foods you eat will often then lead to you suffering with bad skin. Instead, opt for skin saviours like avocado, salmon, and berries, to really boost your radiance.

Be Good To Your Gut

As a step on from that, you’re definitely going to want to work on your gut health too. When you eat too many of the foods that upset your gut, it will show in your face. Too much dairy or sugar or alcohol can show in very clear patterns and signs on your face. So be good to your gut and your skin will start to shine.

Exercise

If you ever need a motive to love exercise, this is it. You know those toxins we talked about, well why not sweat them out? We often think of exercise as being something that is good for our bodies – our waistlines mainly. But it’s also great for the skin. You get your bloody pumping, you get a radiance boost, and you get rid of those evil toxins. What’s not to love?

Clean Your Skin

One thing that you never have an excuse for doing, is sleeping with your makeup on. Just. Don’t. Do. It. It will clog your skin and cause problems. Instead, you need to really keep your skin clean and remove your makeup properly, as Allure talks us through. This is so simple, but it’s a really effective way to keep your skin healthy and clear.

Focus On Anti-Aging

Next up, you’ll want to start working on your anti-ageing processes as soon as you can. Why? Well, prevention is better than cure – of course! So find yourself a great range of anti-ageing skincare products, like Sio, and start caring for the visible signs of ageing. It’s so much easy to start working on fine lines than it is to want to cure deep wrinkles.

Look Into Treatments

As a step on from that, you may also want to look into the skincare treatments that can really boost your skin health. Here, we’re talking facials, facial massage, non-invasive procedures, and botox or fillers. There are so many treatments on the market today that can target specific skincare concerns, that it’s important for you to start looking at your options and seeing what works for you.

De-Stress

And then, there’s stress. Stress is one of those awful toxins that shows in your skin. So if you want stress to stop impacting your skin, you need to keep it at bay.
