DIY Balloon Bracelets

IMPORTANT- Make sure to keep balloons away from small children and pets!!!

balloon bracelets
My girls went to a Girl Scout event this weekend and they learned a really cool technique to make balloon bracelets from a local balloon entertainment company, Balloonmasterz .  It is amazing how great these bracelets look and how simple they are to make.  If you have left over twister balloons (the long balloons used to make balloon animals) this would be a great way to upcycle them once they are deflated.  We didn’t have any twister balloons at home so I bought a package at the party supply store but you could also contact a local balloon artist and see if they would save you some of their balloon scraps.  I spoke with Alyssa Diamond co-owner of Balloonmasterz in South Florida and she said, “We started this activity as a way of going green since we don’t always use the full length of a balloon when sculpting. I have tons of scraps from all of our events! It is an easy way to re-purpose and kids love making them.”

UPDATE- I totally forgot to mention that these would be great in your favorite team colors, school colors, etc.

balloon bracelets2

What you’ll need:
Twister balloons
Optional- You can use elastic string to put the balloon pieces on or you can use another balloon.  We didn’t have elastic string so we just used another twister balloon.  Since the balloons were all the same width, I took a piece of tape and wrapped it around the tip of the balloon we were using as the base of the bracelet to make it easier to slide the balloon pieces on.

 balloon bracelets3
Choose the balloon colors you want for your bracelet.  You will need 1 balloon for the inside of the bracelet unless you are using elastic string.   Each bracelet uses 3-4 cut up balloons for the outside of the bracelet so choose accordingly.  Snip the ends off of the balloons you will be using.  Save the open end pieces to make a ring style balloon bracelet***.
balloon bracelets4
Cut up the balloons you will be using into about 1 inch pieces.  I found it easy to put the balloons on top of each other and cut the pieces about the width of my thumb.
balloon bracelets5
If you are using a balloon as the center of your bracelet I found it easier for my girls work with if I taped one end of the bracelet similar to the end of a shoelace.
balloon bracelets6
Tie one end of the inner balloon so the balloon pieces won’t slide off.  Choose your color pattern and slide balloon pieces onto the long balloon or elastic string.
balloon bracelets8
Scrunch the pieces of the balloon down as you go.  My girls said that if they pulled the inner balloon a bit tight as they worked it made it skinnier and easier to slide the balloon pieces down.

balloon bracelets7
When your bracelet is long enough to wrap around your wrist, tie the ends together, trim any excess balloon or elastic string, and hide the knot inside the balloon pieces.
knot
This is such a fun and easy craft to take with you, too.  We now keep a baggie with cut up balloons and long balloons with tape on the end ready to make bracelets when we have time time to kill waiting for doctor appointments, waiting at restaurants, etc.  Just make sure to check your area before you leave to make sure that you don’t leave any balloon pieces behind for another child to choke on.
Balloon Bracelets to go
My girls kept busy while waiting at the pediatrician’s office yesterday.
balloon ends bracelet
***With all the saved balloon openings you can create a funky balloon bracelet so save those scraps!
balloon pony tail holder
They look cute as pony tail holders, too.  Just be careful as they can and probably will pull on hair when you try to take it out similar to pulling a rubber band out of your hair.

Have you ever suffered the horrible sinking feeling in your stomach when your phone flies out of your hand and splashes into the toilet or smashes to pieces on the ground? You’re not alone. Gazelle, the leading consumer electronics trade-in site, announced its annual Klutziest Places in America list. The list is compiled based on the percentage of broken devices Gazelle received from various regions throughout the country.
Notably six of the top 10 Klutziest Cities are college towns, with the University of Texas (College Station, TX) at number 1, Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ) at number 2, University of North Carolina-Wilmington (Wilmington, NC) at number 3, University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) at number 6, Tulane University (New Orleans, LA) at number 9, and Texas Tech (Lubbock, TX) at number 10 all appearing on the list. The other 4 cties rounding out the top 10 were Shreveport, LA at number 4, Charleston, SC at number 5, Pensacola, FL at number 7, and Fayetteville, NC at number 8.

iPhones, especially older iPhones, like the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4, were the broken phones most frequently traded-in. Gazelle’s service is particularly useful for college students, who are often cash-strapped and could use the extra $100 or more.

Gazelle also announced the launch of its annual broken phone contest, inviting people to share their broken phone stories, for the chance to win $500. Get The Look Of Granite Without The Price! EZ Faux Granite Product Review

Disclosure- I received the product mentioned below to facilitate my review but all opinions are 100% my own and I received no other compensation.
granite counter pinterestThis post is from my old blog but it was such a popular post and has saved so many people so much money on redoing their kitchens and bathrooms that I thought I would copy it over here, too.  This really is an amazing product and it has held up really well.  My counters look as good as they did when I first did them and you would never know they aren’t real granite.

Do you want the look of granite counter tops in your kitchen but don’t want to spend so much money to get the look?  Do you like the look of stainless steel but not all of your appliances are stainless steel?  I have the solution for you!
EZ Instant Makeover has a line of faux products that can create the look you want without the price.
We recently moved into a new house but I thought the kitchen was a little dull and boring.  The counter tops, cabinets, handles, and walls were all white.  We painted the walls and changed out the cabinet handles but we just didn’t have the money to put new counter tops.  I tried to use a cheap roll of granite-look contact paper that I bought at a discount store but it was so hard to use, stuck to itself, and became a wrinkly mess.
Here is what my kitchen looked like before I applied the EZ faux granite:
I was so excited to see EZ Instant Makeover‘s faux granite.  This looked like just the solution I was looking for.  I started by cleaning my counter tops.  The roll of faux granite was the perfect width for my counters so I didn’t have to cut to fit.  I like that the backing has grid marks so you can easily cut it to fit whatever area you need to cover if you do need to cut it.  I was able to peel off one end of the backing from the roll of faux granite and begin placing it on my counter top.
I used the “wet” application method by spraying the counter tops with water before applying the granite film.  It was really easy to apply and the air bubbles came out by simply using a squeegee that I purchased at Home Depot (not included in the kit but a credit card would have worked just as well).  The only “tools” I needed for this installation were a spray bottle to spray water on the counter top, a squeegee to get rid of air bubbles, a knife to trim the edges, and clear silicone caulk to seal the edges around the sink.
The hardest part was installing around the sink.  If you can install the granite with the sink removed, I would recommend that.  Our sink was recently installed and it was pretty well caulked in place so I didn’t want to mess it with.  Instead, I applied a piece of granite film on the counter to the right of the sink first.  I installed a second piece on the left side of the sink and then finished the sink area with 2 thinner strips- one behind and one  in front of the sink.  You can’t really see the seams at all!

I finished the installation and applied a thin strip of clear caulking around the sink to seal the faux granite down.  I used a craft knife to trim the ends.  It turned out that I bought just the refill blades and not the actual knife itself so my cutting wasn’t as exact as I would have wanted it to be, but I think it came out pretty good.
Here is the finished product-

AFTER:
EZ Instant Makeover‘s faux granite comes in several colors:
They also make faux stainless steel film to turn plain appliances into stainless steel appliances:
Do your children like Good Luck Charlie?  They also sell rolls of chalkboard film so you can turn your refrigerator into a chalkboard like on Good Luck Charlie.  Or what about making your pantry cabinet door into a chalkboard to write your grocery list on?

Here’s a quick video showing my counters and comparing regular contact paper and EZ Faux Granite!  Please excuse the echo!!!
