I am definitely a coffee lover but I do have a sweet spot in my heart for tea as well.  I was so excited to find out the Red Rose Tea makes several different flavored tea bags called Red Rose Tea Simply Indulgent.  I’ve tried many flavors of tea before but I have never tried a dessert tea and I was excited when Red Rose Tea offered to send me several boxes of tea to try.  I received 2 flavors of regular tea, Peach Cobbler & Cinnamon Streusel and 2 flavors of decaffeinated tea, Crème Caramel & Lemon Chiffon.
All 4 of these flavors of Red Rose Teas have are hand crafted black tea, have zero calories and make a great alternative to a high calorie dessert while still indulging your sweet tooth.
At only $5 for a box of 20 tea bags, Red Rose Tea is an affordable treat.
The Peach Cobbler had a light peach taste that wasn’t too overwhelming while the Cinnamon Streusel had a delcious cinnamon sweetness without being overpowering.
The Crème Caramel has a plesant caramel cream taste and the Lemon Chiffon has a light desserty lemon taste.
All of the flavors can be enjoyed with or without your favorite sweetener and your favorite cream.  Not too sweet, these teas really hit the spot when you are searching for a sweet way to end your meal or a sweet escape from the pressures of your day without loading on the calories.
You can find Red Rose Tea on their website-  www.redrosetea.com

Frankenweenie White Carpet Premiere and After Party #DisneyMoviesEvent

Frankenweenie Premiere El Capitan TheaterNever in a million years would I have ever expected to find myself rubbing elbows with celebrities but that is exactly where I found myself last Monday.  I was invited by Disney to be a part of an exciting whirlwind trip for 25 bloggers to learn about several new Disney movies first hand from the directors, writers, actors, and other people who all had a hand in the creation of several wonderful films, including on of my favorites, Frankenweenie.  It is a black and white stop-motion animated movie inspired by Director Tim Burton’s California childhood and the loss of his beloved dog.

Here we are walking down the stairs at the Kodak Theater.  Can you find me in this picture?

From the steps of the Kodak Theater we made our way to the El Capitan Theater where the premiere was taking place and boy was it a mob scene!  There were paparazzi everywhere, tons of people, and several celebrities and I was in the middle of it all!!
My heart raced a little when I saw the check-in sign and I realized this was really happening!  Like most non-celebrities, I had never been on a red carpet before or in this case, a white carpet.   Yes, I said white carpet.  The appropriately black and white themed premiere for Frankenweenie had us all dressed in our best black and white ensembles and instead of a red carpet, there was a white carpet.  As I walked towards the theater I began to hear “Over here Ms. Ryder!” “Winona, look this way!”  And there she was.  Winona Ryder was right across the “ropes” from me.  I was so surreal!

I couldn’t believe how close I was to this famous actress but this was only a prelude to what was to come.  As we entered the beautiful El Capitan Theater I was in awe of both its beauty and old time feel.  We grabbed our drinks and popcorn and found our way to our seats.  I sat down in my seat on the inside end of my row with nervous anticipation and began to look around.  That’s when I realized that the actors and actresses were sitting right in the theater with the rest of us.  No special seats.  No barricades.  Just them and us, together.  As I looked across the aisle from my end seat I saw Martin Landau two rows back.  Several rows behind him also on an aisle seat was Martin Short and right behind him was Winona Ryder.  Right there, on the aisle seat a few rows back.  Winona Ryder!  I considered having to subtly get up and go to the restroom just to have a reason to pass right by her but the movie was about to start and I thought better of it.  Right at that moment I was wishing they hadn’t taken away our cameras during the movie.  I did have my cellphone with me but I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a very good picture with it in the theater and I didn’t want to make a spectacle of myself.   So instead I took it all in and listened to the music being played on the organ that in front of the curtain.
I will be doing a review of Frankenweenie in a future post but I will tell you that it was an amazing movie.  Easily one of Tim Burton’s best films to date.
After the movie we went to the after party where we dined on what else but  several versions of  hot dogs from pigs in a blanket to hot dogs in pretzel buns.  And several of the desserts were dog themed, too.
But the food wasn’t the best part.  The most memorable part was really being elbow to elbow with so many celebrities.
Tim Burton blowing Winona Ryder a kiss
I HATE how I look in this one but my kids LOVE Ryan Ochoa from iCarly and Pair of Kings so I took this picture for them.  I have to say that Ryan Ochoa was so genuine and gracious when I spoke with him after we took this picture.  What an amazing young man!
I’m a good wife.  I took this boobalicious picture of me with Elvira just for my boobie loving hubby. 😉
Tom Kenney (the voice of SpongeBob Square Pants) and me
“SpongeBob” was nice enough to even record a short video saying hi to my children by name in the SpongeBob voice!Even the Beverly Hills Chihuahua needs a water break every now and then.  Tim Burton was pouring water for the famous pooch. Here is a picture I took with Deep Roy (he played all the Oompa Lumpas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
Here I am with the genius director behind Frankenweenie, Tim Burton.  I guess even famous directors sometimes blink when taking pictures.  They really ARE just like us! 😉

I also saw Jared (the Subway guy), Conchata Ferrell, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Elvira, Tia Carrere, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, and Robert Capron.  I also had the privilege of being a part of a private interview with Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, and Robert Capron so keep an eye out for that.
All good things must come to an end and this is me leaving the event.  My only regret was not being fast enough to catch Winona Ryder as she walked out the door.  I really wanted to take a picture with her but I wasn’t able to stop her before she was whisked away.   That’s my goal for next time!I’ll leave you with a few photos of the stars courtesy of WireImage.

Disclosure: Thank you to Disney who paid for transportation, food, and accommodations for this event.  No other compensation was given.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Zamzee Product Review

Not to sound old here but years ago when I was a child, we didn’t sit around playing video games, playing on the computer, etc.  We were outside playing.  We were getting exercise and having fun.  But today there are so many children who aren’t getting enough exercise and physical activity.  Zamzee is a new product and website to help with that.

Zamzee is a meter that kids can clip on themselves much like a pedometer that adults wear.  It tracks all of the child’s movement and exercise for the day while they are wearing it.  Kids then upload their activity by sliding out the Zamzee’s USB and plugging it into their computer.  Their movement data is uploaded to their online profile.   The entire site is safe and secure.  Kids aren’t allowed to share any personal information.

Kids stay motivated with Zamzee because they can create their own personal avatar, earn badges, progress to new levels, and earn REWARDS!!!   Kids can take FREE challenges and change their movement points into free prizes like gift cards, donations to charity, or even iPod Nanos and Xbox consoles.   Zamzee users move +30% more than non-Zamzee users!

Both of my girls have been using their Zamzees for a few weeks now and I have seen such an improvement in their activity levels.  Now instead of wanting to watch tv, they are asking to log onto the Zamzee website to complete more challenges.  The challenges are activities that they can do within a set amount of time to get their heart rates up and their bodies moving.  Then they complete a challenge they earn points.  They love challenging each other to see who can earn the most points for the day.  When my daughters have PE they like to take them to school to see how much movement they did during class.

Here’s some more info from Zamzee:

It’s free to set up a Zamzee account, but to use Zamzee you’ll need to purchase a Zamzee meter to measure your movement and earn Pointz.  Most of what you can do on zamzee.com is totally free – like taking Challenges, tracking your progress, climbing the leader boards and competing with friends. But in order to go shopping and buy stuff in the Zamzee Shops, you’ll need to get Zamz, the Zamzee virtual currency. You can earn Zamz by taking Challenges or by reaching Goalz. Earn enough Pointz to reach a Goal, and you unlock Zamz.  You or your parents can buy Goalz at zamzee.com. Sometimes Goalz may be offered by Zamzee or Zamzee partners as well.

There are two ways to earn Pointz on zamzee.com.

1) Moving around with your Zamzee meter. Your Zamzee will track your physical activity as long as you’re wearing it properly, and award you Pointz when your activity reaches an intensity that gets you in the ZamZone. Wearing your Zamzee and moving around is the best way to earn the most Pointz you can!

2) Keeping up on zamzee.com. Get Bonus Pointz for doing things on zamzee.com, like uploading Pointz consistently, and, well, doing other things we don’t want to give away just yet. The key? Make sure you’re using Zamzee as much as possible to get the most Pointz you can!

The ZamZone is the intensity of activity that earns you Activity Pointz. You will know you are in the ZamZone when you feel your heart rate increase or when you feel a little out of breath. For example, standing on your scooter while it rolls down a hill will not get you Activity Pointz. But, biking up a hill will definitely help you earn Pointz! Walking quickly might get you some Pointz; jogging will definitely get you Pointz.

You can purchase your own Zamzee Meters on their website as well as a variety of skin designs to customize your Zamzee.  Use code ZZCONF2012 for a 25% discount at zamzee.com.  You can find Zamzee on Facebook and Twitter, too!
And please check out my daughter’s review of Zamzee on her blog, The Sassy Little Blogger.

Yahoo Women Who Shine Nomination

When I was asked to participate in the Yahoo Women Who Shine program I really thought long and hard about what woman I know really shines and lives up to this title.  My friend and fellow blogger, Sadie Lankford came to mind.  Sadie blogs at Slap Dash Mom where she shares recipes, fitness tips, parenting ideas, and much more.  It is her personal writing style that draws her readers in and it is her honesty and openness that keep them reading.
Sadie shines because she is a strong woman who has overcome adversity and struggles in her life with positive attitude and gratefulness for the blessings she has.  Being homeless just a few years ago has taught Sadie to be thankful for all she has and she teaches this positive message of giving, kindness, and charity to her 3 young daughters.  She is raising her 3 young daughters, with the help of her partner of 4 years, Rachel, to become strong, independent women.  She is always ready to lead a helping hand to anyone in need.  She spends her days volunteering at a local women’s shelter, an animal shelter, and a local inner-city school.  Helping in any way she can from fundraising to other hands on projects to help better her community.   Sadie is also very active on the school PTA and was a Girl Scout Troop leader.  Four years ago Sadie gave the ultimate, selfless gift- the gift of life.  She was a surrogate mother for a family desperately wanting a child of their own.  That is just how Sadie is.  She will give and help anyone who needs it.  Sadie fights for equality for everyone and supports LGBT causes.
Sadie has a “say it like it is” attitude and that is what draws her readers in to connect with her on her blog.  She doesn’t claim to be a perfect mom and helps other moms feel like they are “normal”, too.  That is what really made me first connect with her and her blog.  She still struggles in life but takes each day as it comes and shares a great lesson of acceptance, positivity, and generosity with all that are lucky enough to be touched by her.
Please take a moment to vote for Sadie here!
