Selling a house can be a long, grueling process. Sometimes, you can despair wondering what you’re doing wrong. Why can’t you seem to sell your house? Your house might be great and have lots of potential for a family, but you might not be showcasing it the right way. Here are 7 tips you can use to make the house more appealing to potential buyers:

1. Make the Bedrooms Neutral

Although you may have beautifully decorated bedrooms, a viewer doesn’t want to see your children’s toys everywhere, nor do they want to see pictures of your family all over the place. Subconsciously, this stops them from being able to imagine themselves in this space. If you can make the bedrooms a neutral color and take away objects that might cloud their judgement, they have a much better chance of imagining themselves in the house and all of the things they could do with the rooms.

2. Empty Storage Space

When a viewer looks at storage space, they want to be able to see how much space they have; not how much stuff you have crammed into that space! Although it might seem silly, your clutter clouds their imagination. By emptying the storage space, they will be able to see all of the space they can potentially enjoy.

3. Improve Your Curb Appeal

The front of your house is the first thing a viewer sees. The amount of curb appeal your house has, depends on how fresh and tidy the front of your house is. It includes everything, from your shrubs to your front door. Tidy up the garden, plant some nice flowers, and get rid of any old dog toys or broken bricks. Paint your front door or get a new one if you need to. Make sure your house gives the right impression.

4. Bake Some Cookies

Seriously, cookies can make your house more appealing to potential buyers. This isn’t ‘bribery’, the lovely smell of home baked cookies simply helps to make them feel more at home and comfortable. It can’t hurt to leave them out for them to nibble on either!

5. Make Yourselves Scarce

Try not to be around when a viewing takes place, and let an estate agent, like those estate agents in New Barnet, show them around. Although I’m sure you are lovely people, the estate agent will be able to show them around and sell the house to them if you aren’t there. Your potential buyers will also feel more comfortable snooping around.

6. Install a New Kitchen and Bathroom

It’s been proven that a new kitchen and bathroom are the two things that sell a house quickly. A lot of time is spent in the kitchen, and the bathroom can be a great place to relax, so that’s what people look at most. Even if you can just spruce up those areas as much as you can, your house will look more appealing.

7. Have an Extension

Adding just a few square feet in the form of an extension can be a great help when selling your house. Just make sure you don’t inadvertently make your house less appealing to buyers.
