A few weeks ago I headed to The Children’s Place at Miami International Mall to check out their Spring Fashions and of course to do a little shopping for my girls. There were so many different styles to choose- everything from casual beach and sun wear to more formal dressy wear.

I love the hoodies for boys with Marvel characters that have masks built into the hoods. How cute are these?

But they all have get dress up close for those more formal occasions. Who says there are no good clothes for boys? I love the look for these sweaters and vests with the plaid shirts.

And boys can be ready for the beach and pool with these fun swimwear fashions.

Don’t forget their feet. The Children’s Place has shoes for boys and girls from casual water shoes to more formal shoes to wear with dressier outfits.

For girls there are lots of shoes, purses, hair accessories, and jewelry to choose from so you can make a complete outfit. I had a hard time deciding on what to get for my girls with all the choices. There are always fun t-shirts and casual wear at The Children’s Place as well as pretty bathing suits in both one piece and two piece options.

My girls love dresses so of course they loved all the dresses at The Children’s Place this spring. There are lots of bright, colorful options to choose from and plenty of short sleeved short jackets to wear over them.

But I have to say my favorites are the ones that are black and white with a pop of color like the one in the middle of the picture below.

Miche Purses- One Purse With Many Styles

Let me start by saying that I am lazy, yes, LAZY when it comes to my purses. I tend to wear the same purse for months because I just don’t find the time to transfer it’s contents to another purse that I want to wear. That’s why I was so excited to find Miche Purses. Miche purses start with a basic base purse and then you can add various shells that magnetically attach to the base purse. I LOVE this concept. No more having to transfer items from purse to purse. Changing my look is as easy as pulling off one shell and putting on another.

I choose the basic Petite Base Bag in black because I wanted a small purse to take on my birthday cruise last month. I knew I wouldn’t have that much to put into my purse but I also wanted to be able to match different outfits that I was bringing with me without having to pack a ton of purses.

It is so easy to chance the shells. With my petite base bag I just had to lay the shell flat, put the base bag in the middle, and raise the sides of the shell until the magnets on the purse connected with the shell. Easy peasy and I was able to change my style in a flash.

I love that the base bag could also be worn by itself. It looked perfect with the chain and black strap that came with it but when I wanted a more dressy look, the strap came off to make it a clutch, too. It is so versatile and with all the shells Miche offers, I can find shells to match most of my wardrobe.

The base purses start at $14.95 and the shells are as low as $7.48 making Miche purses affordable for any budget. Now that I am back from my cruise, I plan on purchasing a larger Miche purse for everyday use. In addition to the petite base bag that I have, there are 3 other styles to choose from- the Classic, the Demi, and the Prima. The hardest part is deciding which one to get.

How to make a fashion book with Blurb:

And if you’re interested in fashion and style—and love to show it off—making a book of your personal fashion is a fantastic way to capture your sartorial genius for all time. Whether you want it just for yourself, so you can look through your greatest hits, or you’re a bit of an Internet fashionista who wants to make a book to sell, you’ll find these tips pretty helpful:

1. It’s all about lighting. To make your fashion really pop, choose natural light or studio light with a soft box (you can even make one from a lamp and last season’s white t-shirt). If you’re using a flash, you’ll probably want to bounce it or stick a diffusion filter on it.

2. Make a shot list. This is a critical step, and even more important if you are photographing models. Even if your model is just your best friend who owes you a favor, they’ll appreciate it if you know exactly what you want to shoot. Think about the poses you want to capture, the outfits you want them to wear, and the details that you want to highlight in every shot.

3. White balance (WB). Accurate color and skin tones come from making sure the WB function on your camera is set to your lighting situation.

4. Choose the right lens/zoom setting. If you’re using a wide angle, you’re going to lose your beautiful lines (and your model may never forgive you). If you have a camera with different zoom levels, zoom out to minimize lens barrel distortion.

5. Keep it stylish. It’s a fashion shoot, after all. Play music, keep things moving, try new angles. Attitude, attitude, attitude.

6. Dress it up. Make your book as fashionable as the clothing featured in it. Choose a simple design that doesn’t upstage the clothing, but still looks chic. Pick a size and paper type that showcases the work brilliantly.

DIY Balloon Bracelets

IMPORTANT- Make sure to keep balloons away from small children and pets!!!

My girls went to a Girl Scout event this weekend and they learned a really cool technique to make balloon bracelets from a local balloon entertainment company, Balloonmasterz . It is amazing how great these bracelets look and how simple they are to make. If you have left over twister balloons (the long balloons used to make balloon animals) this would be a great way to upcycle them once they are deflated. We didn’t have any twister balloons at home so I bought a package at the party supply store but you could also contact a local balloon artist and see if they would save you some of their balloon scraps. I spoke with Alyssa Diamond co-owner of Balloonmasterz in South Florida and she said, “We started this activity as a way of going green since we don’t always use the full length of a balloon when sculpting. I have tons of scraps from all of our events! It is an easy way to re-purpose and kids love making them.”

UPDATE- I totally forgot to mention that these would be great in your favorite team colors, school colors, etc.

What you’ll need:
Twister balloons
Optional- You can use elastic string to put the balloon pieces on or you can use another balloon. We didn’t have elastic string so we just used another twister balloon. Since the balloons were all the same width, I took a piece of tape and wrapped it around the tip of the balloon we were using as the base of the bracelet to make it easier to slide the balloon pieces on.

Choose the balloon colors you want for your bracelet. You will need 1 balloon for the inside of the bracelet unless you are using elastic string. Each bracelet uses 3-4 cut up balloons for the outside of the bracelet so choose accordingly. Snip the ends off of the balloons you will be using. Save the open end pieces to make a ring style balloon bracelet***.

Cut up the balloons you will be using into about 1 inch pieces. I found it easy to put the balloons on top of each other and cut the pieces about the width of my thumb.

If you are using a balloon as the center of your bracelet I found it easier for my girls work with if I taped one end of the bracelet similar to the end of a shoelace.

Tie one end of the inner balloon so the balloon pieces won’t slide off. Choose your color pattern and slide balloon pieces onto the long balloon or elastic string.

Scrunch the pieces of the balloon down as you go. My girls said that if they pulled the inner balloon a bit tight as they worked it made it skinnier and easier to slide the balloon pieces down.

When your bracelet is long enough to wrap around your wrist, tie the ends together, trim any excess balloon or elastic string, and hide the knot inside the balloon pieces.

This is such a fun and easy craft to take with you, too. We now keep a baggie with cut up balloons and long balloons with tape on the end ready to make bracelets when we have time time to kill waiting for doctor appointments, waiting at restaurants, etc. Just make sure to check your area before you leave to make sure that you don’t leave any balloon pieces behind for another child to choke on.

My girls kept busy while waiting at the pediatrician’s office yesterday.

***With all the saved balloon openings you can create a funky balloon bracelet so save those scraps!

They look cute as pony tail holders, too. Just be careful as they can and probably will pull on hair when you try to take it out similar to pulling a rubber band out of your hair.
