FREE PRINTABLE SUMMER ELECTRONICS RULESThe first week of summer vacation started just as I thought it would with my kids being lumps playing on their phones, watching tv, and playing on the computer. I let them have some down time for the first week without pestering them about chores, early bedtimes, or anything else they have to deal with during the school year. THAT was week one. They had their break from all responsibilities. I figure everyone deserves a break from responsibilities, right?
summer rules sheetI don’t want them to get out of the habit of doing chores and using their brains so enter my SUMMER ELECTRONICS RULES. There are a variety of tasks/chores my girls can do to earn electronics time. Each chore is worth 15 minutes of electronics time and they can save up and carry over electronics time if they want. Once they earn electronics time there are several things they need to do before they can cash in electronics time such as reading for 30 minutes, doing a physical activity for at least 15 minutes, etc.

I purposely included educational websites as one of the tasks my girls have to do before they can cash in electronics time because playing on the computer doing educational games helps take away their urges for playing on electronics so much but they are still learning. So far both my girls have responded well to my “RULES”. The each did a few chores already and are working towards being able to cash in their electronics time. My older daughter has been drawing in her sketchbook for over an hour, hasn’t bothered her sister, and is entertaining herself without electronics. WIN! My younger daughter read for 30 minutes, played on the computer on a math website for well over 30 minutes, vacuumed the floor, brushed the dog, and is about to go outside for some exercise and fresh air. Once they get their tasks done they will be able to cash in their electronics time or they can save it up for another day.

They must do the tasks (reading, physical activity, etc.) BEFORE they can cash in electronics time. TASKS cannot be carried over to other days and must be done on the day they want to cash in the electronics time. I’m keeping track of their electronics time on a Google Spreadsheet because I can access it from my computer or my phone. I was going to give them popsicle sticks for every 15 minutes of electronics time but my girls are older, didn’t really need the tangible stick as a reminder, and they both told me not to waste the sticks.

Grab your own printable copy of my

SUMMER ELECTRONICS RULES!

Print them as is or since they are a Google Document you can copy and paste it into Word and edit it to meet your needs. 🙂

Melbourne: check. Sydney: check. Perth: check. Once you’ve done all of Australia’s major cities, you might be struggling to think of where else to check out in the vast country. However, I’ve got a fantastic destination for you. My hot tip for your next trip to Oz is Byron Bay. This pretty coastal town is just under a two-hour drive south of Brisbane. It’s pretty out of the way, but the extra journey there will be very much worth it. Here are some reasons why it’s so fantastic.

Surfing

Byron Bay is one of Australia’s best surfing spots. Seasoned surfers often run out to show off their skills on the waves. However, it is also the perfect place for beginners to learn the ropes as well. There are many surf schools in the town that can help you get up on a surfboard in no time at all. Not too keen on surfing? Doesn’t mean you should miss the beach. You can also spend the day working on your tan and enjoying a cocktail from one of the many beach bars.

Tour The Local Area

There are lots of ways you can get out and about in Byron Bay’s surrounding countryside. You can jump on a bicycle or simply go off on a hike. However, if you really want to discover everything the local region has to offer, join a tour group. There are many different ones you can choose from, including Travezl tours in Byron Bay. Remember to have your camera with you at all times so that you can take plenty of snaps of the beautiful sights.

Arakwal National Park

Arakwal National Park is known for its white sandy beaches and stunning coastline. Tallow Beach is one of its main attractions. This 32-kilometer stretch of shore is popular with walkers, birdwatchers, and whale watchers. While you are in the park, watch out for its two native frog species, the Wallum Froglet, and the Wallum Sedge Frog.

Cape Byron Lighthouse

One thing everyone does when in Byron Bay is to take a trip to the Cape Byron Lighthouse. It is located in the easternmost part of the Australian mainland. The building looks uncharacteristically low for a lighthouse, but it was built that way to take into account the fact the land is quite high up. Today, the lighthouse is an icon of the entire bay area and is often used as a symbol for Byron Bay.

Terrific Restaurants

Byron Bay is also known for its marvelous restaurants and eateries. Carnivores should head straight for Main St. Burger Bar to chow down on some meaty patties topped with a variety of relishes and salads. Thai food is a big deal in Australia, and that is especially the case in the bay area. Traditional Thai is situated in the center of town and known for its delicious pork belly dishes and Thai green curries.

So next time you’re planning a trip Down Under, make sure you plan in some time in Byron Bay. You’ll certainly thank me!

No Dining Room? Tips For Creating A Dining Area In Your Kitchen

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

It can be frustrating when you don’t have a dining room when you move into a new house. But you can often create a beautiful dining area in the kitchen which will be just as impressive. Here are some tips for creating an ideal dining area in your kitchen.

Separate the area from the kitchen

An excellent way to create an ideal dining area in your kitchen is by making it separate from the kitchen. Decide where there is room to put the table first and whether you could fit it in the other side of the kitchen. Once you know where you can put it, consider if you could put an archway up, or a wall, which can make it seem as if it’s in a different room. Get some quotes for the work so you know if it’s in your budget.

Find a great table and chairs

Another way to create an ideal dining area in your kitchen is by finding a fantastic table and chairs. Go for a modern set to really help the dining area in the kitchen look great. You may want to get a table and chairs that folds away so you can keep space in the kitchen when you are not eating. You should choose one that extends if necessary so that you have enough space if family or friends come over.

Choose good lighting

You can also create an ideal dining area in your kitchen by selecting some great lighting. It can help it look great when it’s nighttime, and you are eating in the kitchen. You may want to go for some traditional ceiling lights. Or you may even want to go for some recessed lighting, which will make your kitchen look very stylish. You could even go for a ceiling fan to ensure everyone stays cool when eating after you have been cooking in there.

power-house-351633_640Pixabay

Decorate with accessories

Another tip to create an ideal dining area in your kitchen is to ensure you decorate it with accessories. Hang up some beautiful art and some family photos to make the dining area seem like a different room. Remember to decorate the table with flowers and beautiful placemats and coasters to help it look beautiful.

Leave plenty of spaces

To create an ideal dining area in the kitchen, you should ensure you leave plenty of space around the table and chairs. Consider if you could get rid of a couple of base units to make more room in the kitchen for the dining area. You need to make sure people don’t feel too cramped while they are tucking into their dinner.

Choose a different color

Another thing you can do to create an ideal dining area in your kitchen is to have a statement wall which is in a different color. Put the table and chairs next to it and it will make it seem as if it’s a different room.

Hopefully by following the tips above, you won’t mind not having no dining room!

image011Get ready for an adventure! Disney has re-imagined the classic PETE’S DRAGON story for a new audience. This is the movie that is going to have every young child asking for their own dragon! Check-out the new trailer for Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON, which features spectacular never-before-seen footage of Pete’s dragon, Elliot. The film, which is a reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence and Robert Redford and is directed by David Lowery, opens nationwide on August 12th!

image010A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliot, who just so happens to be a dragon. “Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”), Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Karl Urban (“Star Trek”), Oona Laurence (“Southpaw”), Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (“Cedar Rapids”) and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”). The film, which is directed by David Lowery (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”), is written by Lowery & Toby Halbrooks based on a screenplay by Malcolm Marmorstein and produced by Jim Whitaker (“The Finest Hours,” “Friday Night Lights”), with Barrie M. Osborne (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Great Gatsby”) serving as executive producer.

image002 (6)

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliot. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliot seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

I am so excited for this new teaser trailer and poster for Disney’s MOANA! Um, hello, it stars Dwayne Johnson. Swoon!!!! Ok so he’s in CGI form but still. Check out his pecks! 😉

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.

image004 (1)From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.

image003Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new feature film “Moana” is about an adventurous teenager who, with help from demigod Maui, sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people.

Notes:

  • Filmmakers auditioned hundreds of talented young women throughout the Pacific Islands before finding the gifted Native Hawaiian Auli’i Cravalho, who did not initially pursue the coveted role. The film’s Hawai’i-based casting director recalled her singing performance from a video submission for a fundraiser/talent showcase and asked Auli’i to come in and try out. Three auditions later, including her first trip to Burbank, Calif., she earned the title role, thanks to raw talent.
  • Dwayne Johnson stars in the critically acclaimed “Ballers” for HBO, directed by Peter Berg. Last year, he starred in the blockbusters “Furious 7” and “San Andreas.” Up next, Johnson appears in “Central Intelligence” opposite Kevin Hart for New Line, the big-screen adaptation of “Baywatch” and “Fast 8.”
  • The diverse and dynamic team behind the film’s inspired music include Tony®-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Broadway’s Pulitzer Prize-winning and multiple Tony-winning “Hamilton,” Tony-winning “In the Heights”), Grammy®-winning composer Mark Mancina (“Speed,” “Tarzan” “The Lion King”) and Opetaia Foa’i (founder and lead singer of the world music award-winning band Te Vaka).
  • Directors Ron Clements and John Musker made their writing-directing debut on the 1986 feature “The Great Mouse Detective.” They went on to write and direct some of Disney’s most beloved animated classics, including the undersea adventure “The Little Mermaid” in 1989, the hilarious hit “Aladdin” in 1992, 1997’s epic comedy “Hercules” and, most recently, 2009’s “The Princess and the Frog.”
  • Producer Osnat Shurer served as the executive producer of the shorts group at Pixar Animation Studios, responsible for Pixar’s short films, as well as all DVD bonus materials. While at Pixar, Shurer produced or executive produced a host of hit shorts, including the Oscar®-nominated “Lifted” (2006), “One Man Band” (2005) and “Boundin’” (2003).

The internet has become one of the most effective technologies for teaching and learning new skills. Students can learn wherever and whenever they want to. Below are some of the most effective ways to learn online.

Mock Exam Websites

In some instances, you may be required to take some kind of test. The best way to prepare for such a test is to take a mock exam that is similar to the real test you will eventually take. For example, if you are learning to drive, you will have to take a driving theory test before you can take your practical. You can prepare for this theory test using a website like TopTests.co.uk, which includes a range of mock exams that will help you prepare properly for the real driving theory test.

Online Video Technology

Video has become one of the most effective ways to carry out online demonstrations and to teach people. Many of the videos available online are free to view through video sharing websites like YouTube, Vimeo and Daily Motion. In other situations, teachers, lecturers and other experts charge a fee for access to their videos. However, the fees charged are usually much less than you would have to pay for the same sort of training or lessons carried out offline in a traditional classroom environment.

Video Conferencing

Video conferencing is particularly effective for one to one tuition as well as small group training. Skype, Google Talk and a range of other free and affordable video conferencing systems are available for this purpose. These platforms make it easy to take video conference calls from any location, which means you can easily learn a new skill from someone based anywhere in the world. If you’re an expert in a particular area, you could even help other people through video conferencing too. For example, many people teach English to non-native speakers in this way.

Membership Websites

Membership websites are a popular choice of site for many webmasters. A central membership website can be accessed by huge numbers of people who each have access to the content of that site. This content can include videos, text, documents and audio files. When setting up a site like this, it’s important to encourage interaction between the moderators and fellow members. This interaction increases the value of a membership website and makes it a more effective online resource for people who want to find out about the latest developments in a particular niche or industry.

Mobile Apps and Mobile Websites

Mobile app and mobile website technologies take online learning to a new level. Once you have a smart phone and the appropriate app or access to a mobile website, you can learn on the move and from any location that has a broadband signal.

The internet has become the number one destination for people who want to learn a new skill. However, many people don’t realise just how easy it is to use the internet in this way. The ways to learn online mentioned above are as effective, if not better, than the traditional methods we are accustomed to.

3 Big Life Decisions (And How To Make Them!)

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Life is full of complex scenarios and situations. There are many decisions you must make that will shape your path. Here are three big life decisions and some advice on how to make them:

children-441895_640(pixabay: https://goo.gl/mfX8Hf)

Having Children

Starting a family is a massive decision for anyone. People in relationships will eventually have this discussion. Talking about having children is a big moment in your relationship. It can impact the rest of your life. Most people want to have kids, but the big issue is timing. Take a look at your life and see if having children is a good idea right now. Are you both earning enough to start a family? If you think things will be difficult, then it’s not wise to start having kids. Take lots of time to analyze your situation and it will become clear to you whether or not you should have children.

For people that already have kids, the decision for more children is equally difficult. Of course, things are slightly easier given that you now have parenting experience. Again, try and picture your life with more children. If you’re struggling with one, then it might not be time for two. Life changes after having kids, make sure you make the right decision at the right time!

Moving Home

Moving home is a huge life decision that all families will experience at least once in their lives. The process can be tiring and extremely stressful. There are so many things to think about, the first being where will you move? Finding a new home involves lots of small decisions. You must find a house that’s close to work and schools, and in a nice neighborhood. Then, there’s the difficult task of packing your things and moving. There may be loads of boxes you have to move and a lot of stuff to throw away. Things can be made easier if you look at well-reviewed local movers. At least this will help take some stress away from the actual moving process.

It’s important that people take their time when organizing a move. Do plenty of research into the best places for families to live. Ensure that a budget is set so the new house is bought for an affordable amount. The worst thing you can do is rush into a decision.

8615571487_08c4384918_z(Picture source: https://flic.kr/p/e8k4eZ)

Making Money

Everyone needs to think about how they’ll make money. For some families, this means one person works and the other stays with the children. However, there are other choices too. Some couples both go to work, and their children are looked after by family or a nanny. If no kids are present, then both people can work and earn a dual income.

It’s important for your family that you know where the money is going to come from. As a couple, you must sit down and talk about this at great length. Decide which option is best for both of you.

The key to making all of these decisions is time. You need to take your time or you’ll make mistakes. Never rush into decision making, especially when talking about things of this magnitude.

Three Health Supplements That Will Really Make A Difference

pillsImage By Ben Kerckx

Walk down the Health aisle of any supermarket, and you’ll soon see the usual favorites when it comes to supplements. You’ve got your Vitamin C, Evening Primrose Oil and of course the all-encompassing multivitamins. They’re as familiar as friends, and millions around the world rely on them for nutritional support.

While no one is suggesting these items should lose their place in their cabinets, have you ever wondered what else is out there? The most well-known options might not necessarily be the most beneficial. If you fancy expanding your horizons, here’s a few options to try.

Fermented Cod Liver Oil

No, come back! Yes, rotten fish goo. Sorry about that. Nevertheless, the health benefits of fermented food are well established. Couple that with the fatty acids that cod liver oil is rich in, and you’ve got something special.

Fortunately, you don’t have to consume this in its raw form. If that were the case, no one would have any idea of the benefits as no one would have ever tried it. Modern sensibility separates you from that via glycerin capsules, which are largely tasteless.

Said to help provide immune support, keep joints supple and improve skin elasticity, it’s worth getting over the ick factor.

Specific Probiotic Strains

It might be easy to think that by popping a generic probiotic you’ve got that side of things taken care of, but think again. Probiotics come in a thousand and one different types, all offering slightly different health benefits.

If you’re travelling and worried about how your stomach will hold up, L. rhamnosus can help accustom your digestion to new foods. B.L. Regularis from Dannon is a good all-around support, with extra immune boosting factors. B. longum likes to target toxins and help eradicate them.

If any probiotic you’re considering does not list the type of strain, it’s not worth bothering with. Read labels to ensure you’re getting the maximum benefit.

Magnesium

mgImage Taken By fdecomite

It has been estimated that up to 80% of people have a moderate or severe magnesium deficiency. This is partly due to over-farming resulting in soil nutrient depletion, but calcium plays a role too. What can calcium, the friendly bone mineral, do that’s so bad?

Well, it’s packed into everything now, from cereals to children’s yogurts. That’s a good thing; calcium isn’t a bad guy in moderation. If you get too much of it, though, it depletes your magnesium resources. There are few biological processes that don’t rely on magnesium, including heart function, so this is very important to get a grip on.

Magnesium is best ingested as a liquid, mixed in with a drink of your choice. Ideally not any drink you like – it’s not going to taste good, but hold your nose and choke it down to reap the benefits.

If you really can’t stomach the taste, magnesium is also available in oil and lotion forms. It’s absorbed well through the dermis, so this is a viable option.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s always worth looking around and doing a bit of research so you can get the most out of your supplements. The three above are certainly a good place to start.

7 Important Things To Consider When Moving To Another Country

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

If you’re planning on moving to another country or it’s something you’ve briefly considered, you must know that there’s a lot to think about. You should never take packing up and moving to another country lightly. This is a complete life change, and you need to be prepared for the changes it presents. To start you off, here are 7 important things to consider when moving to another country:

Finding A Place To Live

Finding a place to live is the first and most important thing on your to do list. You need to decide whether you’ll rent or buy, to begin with. If you’ve never been in the country for very long, then it’s definitely a good idea to rent before you decide to put down roots and buy. You don’t want to go through all of that hassle only to realize you’ve made a mistake. Take your time when finding a place to live, this is the most important part!

16413861750_a06720a97d_zcredit

Your Prep Checklist

You’ll have a long list of things that you need to get done before you move to another country. Make a prep checklist and tick them off as you go so you know you’ve done everything you need to do. You’ll need to look into things like visas, injections, insurance, and things like that to make sure you can get into the country. You need to make sure you stay healthy and safe when you’re there to, so there are plenty of things you’ll have to sort out before you go.

Will You Use Professional Services?

Of course you can move to another country alone, but professional services can make the whole thing so much easier. The Chess international removalist site can give you an idea of the services on offer and things to look for when deciding what services you need. They can take so much of the hassle out so you feel better about packing up your life and starting over.

Your Family

If you’re moving with your family, you have a lot to think about there too. What do they think of where you’re going? Will it affect work and education? When will they start school? You need to consider them as much as yourself because it’ll change their whole lives too.

14346808056_6565b3da55_zcredit

The Language

The language of another country can be a big barrier, so if you’ll struggle to get to grips with what’s going on you should immerse yourself in the language first. Of course throwing yourself in the deep end is probably going to be the thing that makes you fluent, but you should still learn what you can.

Culture

Each country has a different culture, so be prepared to change the way you live to fit in if you need to. Not only will you be more accepted to the locals, you’ll also have new, exciting experiences.

Safety

Finally, make sure you research the safety of the place and how to stay safe. This is so important for the health and happiness of your family!
