Finding a base for you and your family is vital for a happy family life. Where you live when your children are small will determine what kind of childhood your children have. You want to make sure that everything is perfect for your little ones when they are growing up. As such, you need to do everything in your power to make sure that you find the right home for your family. This period is likely to be a stressful time for you and your partner. It is important not to let the experience impact your home life. Work together to find the right property, rather than wasting time arguing about small things. Here is a quick guide to help you find the ideal family home.

Decide on a budget

Let’s talk money. Your budget is everything. It will determine how much money you can spend on the property and what sort of properties you will be considering. Make sure that you come up with a reasonable, affordable budget for your family. How much do you and your partner make on a monthly basis? You should be spending around a quarter of your combined monthly income on the mortgage. If you do the math, you can come up with a rough monthly budget. Use a mortgage calculator to see how much your budget equates to in housing prices terms. Search ‘house prices in my area,’ so that you can get a rough guide of how much to spend.

Research the region

You want to raise your children in a good region with a low crime rate and a good authority system. Become a detective and find out all there is to know about your new region. A quick Google search will help you find out about the crime within the area. You can also download state statistics online to see what kind of place the property is in and whether you’d like it. Remember, you can’t find the perfect area, as everywhere has downfalls. Just look for the best area to suit your family situation.

Visit the property (more than once)

You and your family need to get a real feel for your new property. Visiting the house just once won’t do. You and your family need to visit the property a  few times to see whether you can imagine yourselves living there. Take your children along to one of the viewings and see how they react. The chances are that, if your children fall in love with a property, so will you. You should never make an offer on a property based on pure impulse. Doing so could mean you end with a home that does not suit you or your family life.

Look into local schools

What are the schools like in the region? When buying a family home, you need to find out about the local schools. How do they compare to other schools in the state or the country? Are they currently accepting new students? The school that your children attend when they are young will scope their learning experience. Moving to an area with a great education system will give your children the best start in life.

Look into local amenities

What is there in the general area? You are hoping to make a life for you and your family in the region, and so you need to know what the area has to offer you. If you have an interest or hobby, is there somewhere to do it in the area? Are there clubs or classes for your children to attend in the evening? Is there enough entertainment venues to keep you, and the family occupied? You should be asking yourself all these questions and more. When you choose a home for you and your family, you plan to stay there for years or even decades. Make sure that you make the right decision. Choose a place that you can see yourself living for many years.

Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one.

“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” directed by Independent Spirit Award-winner Miguel Arteta (“The Good Girl,” “Cedar Rapids,” “Youth in Revolt”) from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, is a 21 Laps Entertainment/Jim Henson Company production. The film hits theaters nationwide Oct. 10, 2014.

3 Simple Tips to Help Prevent the Signs of Aging

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

One aspect of ageing that none of us likes is the effect that it can have on our appearance. Wrinkles, crow’s feet and tired sagging skin don’t exactly lend themselves to a woman being able to feel her best. Whilst we can’t stop the ageing process entirely, we can help to reduce its effect on our appearance by taking action as early as possible. By action, we don’t mean that you should book an appointment with your friendly local plastic surgeon. What we do mean is that there are simple techniques that you can incorporate into your beauty regime today, so you can keep looking your best for as long as possible. 6175811463_349f1157de_zSource: Flickr
1. Get Plenty of Sleep We tend to need much less sleep as we get older, but that doesn’t mean that just getting a couple of hours each night will suffice. We all need our beauty sleep, no matter what age we happen to be. Fatigue can cause skin to look dull and lose its plumpness. So, if you struggle to sleep for more than 4-6 hours, then try and take short ‘power-naps’ in the day. They’re great for helping you to feel refreshed, and you’ll find that your skin looks much healthier as well.
2. Protect Your Skin We expose our skin to all sorts throughout the course of our lives. We spend the day in a polluted city, or sit in the sun without wearing sunscreen. We may not notice any damage at the time, but trust us, the damage is being done. So, make sure you cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin at least twice a day. Everybody should do this, no matter if they happen to be 16 or 52. If you’re spending the day out of doors, make sure you wear sunscreen with a factor of at least thirty or above. If you wear make up, try and use products of the highest quality. You can look on the internet to find discounted cosmetics and cheap make up from many of the top-selling brands. You may not be able to improve the damage that’s already been done, but you can prevent further damage from happening.
3. Take Regular Exercise As we get older, our joints are more prone to stiffness than when we were younger. If we don’t work to prevent it, we can lose strength and suppleness. You don’t have to run a marathon in order to stay fit and healthy. You could go swimming once or twice a week, or join a senior yoga class or walking group. The great thing about joining an exercise class is that you get to meet lots of new people, which can help to keep you feeling young in itself! If you’re a little more restricted in your range of movement, any form of gentle exercise would suffice. As long as it raises your heartbeat, you’ll still reap the all-important anti-ageing benefits.   3939253265_433ca4bc0d_zSource: Flickr Remember, getting older isn’t something to be ashamed of, it’s just another stage of your life that should be embraced and enjoyed. So, whatever you do, don’t ever let age stop you from doing anything – there’s just too much fun to be had for that!

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (August, 18, 2014) – Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel’s “Ant-Man.” The film brings one of Marvel comics’ original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production.

Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “The Bourne Legacy”), Bobby Cannavale (“Danny Collins,” “Annie,” “HBO’s “The Long Play”), Michael Peña (“End of Watch,” “American Hustle”), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness”), Judy Greer (“13 Going on 30,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “Prisoners”), Wood Harris (“Remember the Titans,” “The Wire”), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 2”) and Gregg Turkington (“The Comedy,” “On Cinema”) and multi-hyphenate T.I. (“American Gangster,” “Takers”).

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel’s “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Director Peyton Reed’s creative team also includes Oscar® winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (“Titanic,” “21”), production designer Sheppard Frankel (“Identity Thief,” “Horrible Bosses”) costume designer Sammy Sheldon Differ (“X-Men: First Class,” “Kick Ass”), visual effects supervisor Jake Morrison (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” “The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers”), stunt coordinator Jeff Habberstad (Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) and six-time Oscar® nominee, special effects supervisor Dan Sudik (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”). The editors include Dan Lebental, ACE (Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” Marvel’s “Iron Man”) and Colby Parker Jr. (“Lone Survivor,” “Hancock”).

Marvel Studios’ upcoming release schedule includes Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015, Marvel’s “Captain America 3” on May 6, 2016, and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” on July 28, 2017.

Marvel Studios continued its unprecedented success in 2014 with more record-breaking films including the #1 releases of Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which recorded the largest April opening of all time at $95 million and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which recorded the largest August opening of all time with $94.1 million. Both films were the #1 film in the world when they were released on April 4, 2014 and August 1, 2014, respectively.

In 2013 Marvel Studios delivered #1 openings for Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” which grossed over $640 million worldwide and Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” which grossed over $1.2 billon worldwide and was the highest grossing film of the calendar year.

In 2012 the studio produced the critically acclaimed “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which shattered both domestic and international box office records, is Disney’s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marked the studio’s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with Marvel’s “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth, and Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 Marvel’s “Iron Man 2,” starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies Marvel’s “Iron Man” and Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk.” Marvel’s “Iron Man,” in which Robert Downey Jr. originally donned the Super Hero’s powerful armor and starred alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success.

Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk,” marking its second number one opener of that summer.

A Guide to Choosing the Right Care Plan for an Elderly Relative

Watching a close elderly relative as they suffer from illness, disease or just old age can be very upsetting even for the strongest of people. Watching a person we love struggle with everyday tasks is emotionally challenging on every level. We feel sad and possibly scared, but feel that we must stay strong in order to support our loved one. Sadly, there comes a time when there is no other option, but to ask for help. This doesn’t make you weak or a bad person, it makes you a realistic one. If you can no longer give your elderly relative the support and care they need, it’s only sensible to start exploring other options.

In-House Care Versus Independent Living

There are many plans available to suit people who require differing levels of care. Some may just need help with carrying out daily tasks like shopping, cooking or cleaning the house. If this sounds like your loved one, then a care plan that still allows them to live independently would be the best option. Other people may have a specific health condition such as Parkinson’s disease or arthritis and may need the help of trained medical professionals. And there are many care homes that offer services specifically catered for such needs. Whatever the specific needs of your relative, it’s important to be clear about exactly what those needs are before deciding on a care plan.

2275900255_044bdfcfb7_zPhoto Source: flickr.com

Ask For Their Input

It’s also essential that you include your loved one in every aspect of the decision-making process. Of course, if they’re suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s, this isn’t always possible. But it’s still essential that you involve them as much as you can. And ensure that they’re happy and comfortable with the situation. If they require in-house care, take them to explore some local establishments and see for yourself how comfortable and ‘at home’ they seem. Talk with staff and other residents to judge how happy they seem and to get a sense of how well the place is run.

Retirement-Home_2781309bPhoto Source: telegraph.co.uk

Accessibility

Always try and opt for a location that’s as easy for you to get to as possible, so you can make regular visits. So, if you happen to live in Melbourne a center offering rehabilitation in Centennial, CO, would be a wise place to start. Many care-homes and rehabilitation centers will allow you and other family members to have input into your elderly relative’s care plan. Because ultimately, it’s you who knows them better than anybody else. And you should always have the right to speak up if you feel that there are ways in which their care plan could be improved.
Every person is an individual, and no two people’s needs are going to be exactly the same. And the care home or rehabilitation center that you eventually decide on should reflect that fact. And remember that whatever care plan you do decide to choose, you mustn’t allow yourself to feel guilty. In fact, you should be proud of yourself for having the courage to put your loved one’s needs first.
