The Best Ways To Fight Frizz

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Frizzy hair is the worst. It looks terrible, it feels terrible, and it’s pretty embarrassing too. But if you have thick, curly hair, it can be difficult to tame and fight frizz and keep your hair looking soft, smooth, and shiny. Thankfully, though, all hope isn’t lost. No matter what type of hair you’re sporting, you can fight frizz effectively if you know what techniques and tools to use. Continue reading for a few helpful hair care tips that will allow you to achieve the most beautiful, smoothest hair right at home.

Always Use Conditioner

Even if you purchase a shampoo/conditioner combination product, you should never skip on conditioning your hair every time you shampoo. This will help you deposit moisture into your hair so your cuticles will remain healthy and frizz-free. Just be sure to use a conditioner that contains natural ingredients that are hydrating. A good example is shea butter, which is a go-to moisturizing ingredient for women with dry hair.

Apply your conditioner from the midshaft downward to the ends if you’re worried about weighing your hair down by putting it at your roots. Otherwise, apply it throughout your hair from root to tip.

Use a Deep Conditioning Hair Mask Weekly

In addition to continually conditioning your hair, you can also apply a deep conditioning mask that will hydrate your tresses at least once a week. This is especially important during the colder months of the year, particularly in the winter when the air is dry.

Always Use a Heat Protective Spray

Whenever you are about to use heat to style your hair, whether you are about to grab the blow dryer, curling iron, or flat iron, apply a heat protective spray to your hair first. Regardless of what type of hair you have, this is a good line of defense against the damage that can be caused by heat that could lead to frizz.

Use a Cream Hydrator and Dry Your Hair with a Diffuser

If you have thick, frizzy, curly hair, it is best to use a cream hydrator after you have shampooed and conditioned your locks.

While your hair is still wet, apply the cream hydrator from the roots to the tips, but do not rub it into your hair. Instead, warm the cream between your fingers and palms and then squeeze it onto the hair. Wrap curls around your fingers so that you can shape them just how you like them, and then allow your hair to air dry naturally.

Once your hair has dried quite a bit, you can then finish the job by using a diffuser on your blow dryer. Set it to high heat on low speed and make sure that you aim it downward so you can keep frizz at bay.

Start Using an Ionic Blow Dryer

An ionic blow dryer is a great product to use if you regularly have to deal with annoyingly frizzy hair. It will help reduce the frizz by working on compressing your cuticles. This will lock out moisture that would otherwise result in frizziness. So if your current blow dryer doesn’t seem to be doing the trick despite all of the products that you are using in your hair, it may be time for an upgrade.

Remember, too, that a lot of hot air can dehydrate your hair and cause frizz, particularly during the winter. If your hair is only slightly wavy or totally straight, allow it to dry naturally 90% before blow drying the rest. If it’s curly, you can even let it air dry 100%.

Brush Your Hair Often

Brushing your hair often can actually help combat frizz, especially if you hang your head upside down and use a bristle brush. This works by distributing the natural oils on your head from the scalp and the roots to the rest of the hair. In the end, your hair should be more hydrated, and this, in turn, will help with blocking out humidity and preventing frizz and flyaways. So while you can certainly apply moisturizing oil-based products to your hair to restore moisture, remember that your natural oils can also help you in your quest to prevent frizz and maintain the smoothest locks possible.

Now that you know a few of the easiest ways to maintain frizz-free hair throughout the year, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t love your hair every day of the week. With the right conditioning and heat protective products, you can ensure that your hair will remain soft and lustrous, as well as completely smooth, without being weighed down.

Home Disasters And How To Avoid Them

If you’re completing home maintenance, you might find yourself doing some repairs around the house. However, getting in over your head can lead to a DIY disaster. You will find that you can damage your home and be in dire need of expert attention. But, there are ways to avoid a home disaster and here are some tips on how to do that.

diy-617763_1920Pic Source

Assess The Job You’re Completing

The first step is to assess the job you’re completing. You need to make sure you can complete it without any chance that it goes wrong. This is often easier said than done because things can go wrong with the simplest of jobs. You might just be trying to fix a dripping faucet. But, if you play with the wrong pipe, you can quite easily cause a problem that will quickly spread water all over your kitchen.

Is It Safe?

This is one of the most important questions you should be asking yourself. Is it safe? If it is, then by all means try and complete the job yourself. But there are certain situations when DIY is never a safe option. For instance, you should never attempt to rework and electric line by yourself. First, this requires permission from the council and secondly, it’s incredibly dangerous. If a job is deemed to be unsafe, you should bring in a professional.

Is It Necessary?

Imagine you are repainting a room. You may, for a brief moment, consider taking the radiator off the wall. However, if there is pressure of water underneath and the radiator is not bleeding properly, you’re going to get a fountain of water. This could have been avoided if you left the radiator alone. No one is going to see the patch of wall behind it in any case. While a perfectionist may disagree, there is no need to unscrew a radiator when painting a room.

Do I Need An Expert?

If the job is either unsafe or there is a possibility it could go wrong in some way, you should hire a professional. Otherwise you could risk your own life or do further damage to your home. Both of these issues can be avoided by thinking ahead and hiring an expert. They’ll fix the problem for you, and you can get one with making improvements to the rest of the home.

Have I Found A Reputable Company?

When you look for a maintenance repair company online, it’s important to know you’re dealing with a reputable business. You can make sure this is the case by checking available reviews online. For instance, All- Tex Plumbing has a section on their website for testimonials, so you can see what other people have said. Or, you can choose a company that has been recommended by someone you know.

Could The Issue Have Been Prevented?

Finally, for future reference you should consider whether you could have prevented the need for a repair. For instance, you might hire someone to fix a clogged gutter. But, if you had trimmed the trees back before the leaves started falling, you wouldn’t have needed to.

Before You Give Your Kids an Air Rifle or BB Gun, Read This

bb gun

An air gun can be a fun way for kids to learn the basics of firearms handling, target practice, instinctive shooting and hunting. Parents often buy them as Christmas or birthday presents for older children, but the first thing kids should learn before they use an air gun is how firearms safety principles apply to the weapon.

For Younger Children

Before children are old enough to own a gun, they should learn some basic gun safety principles for their own protection and that of others around them. This is important for protecting younger children if their older sibling owns a gun. It may also help protect your child even if no one in your household owns a gun but one of your relatives or neighbors or one of your children’s playmates does.

For children from prekindergarten age to fourth grade, the NRA’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe program teaches a four-step approach to firearms safety:

  • First, children in this age range should STOP before doing anything
  • Second, don’t touch the gun
  • Third, run away. This removes the risk of getting in the line of injury if someone else touches the weapon
  • Fourth, get an adult. A parent, relative, neighbor, or teacher can make sure the gun is handled safely

These rules also apply if one child sees another child playing with a gun. Most gun accidents occur when one child tries to take a gun away from another.

For additional safety around younger children, use a gun storage safe. Several affordable models are available from retailers such as Cabela’s. You should also teach children that it’s not okay to seek out guns in storage when adults aren’t around.

Rule #1: Always Point the Barrel in a Safe Direction

Always point the barrel of a gun in a safe direction. The safest direction to point a gun is usually at the ground or the floor slightly to the side of you, making sure it’s not pointing at your feet or anyone else’s. As long as children follow this rule, even if a gun goes off accidentally, no one will get hurt. Make sure that children can repeat this rule before learning anything else.

Rule #2: Never Touch the Trigger Until You’re Ready to Fire

Children never touch the trigger until they’re ready to shoot. Following this rule will keep the gun from accidentally firing. Applying this rule means getting in the habit of picking up the gun with the trigger finger alongside the gun, not inside the trigger guard. This is the opposite of how TV and movies usually show guns being handled, so be sure children understand the difference between how Hollywood handles triggers and the safe way to handle triggers in real life.

Rule #3: Never Load the Gun Until You’re Ready to Shoot

The third gun safety rule children should learn is to keep guns unloaded until they’re ready to shoot. An unloaded gun cannot hurt anyone. This applies to pellet and BB guns just as it does to regular firearms.

The Ultimate Home Buying Checklist

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

There’s a lot to take into account when moving home. It’s a task that involves a number of different pieces moving at the same time. In many ways, it’s the ultimate test of multitasking. You have to think about finance, your kids schooling, duration, and moving. As well as this, you have to consider all the different services you need to hire when making the move. But this checklist should make your next home move a lot easier.

6881505052_5c7434522b_zImage Source

1) Check The Market

Your first step should be to check whether the market is healthy. If it is, you’ll have no problem selling an old home, but you might have difficulty buying a new one. Ideally, you want house prices where you are moving, to be low. But, you want to make an easy sell on your old home.

2) Selling Your Old Home

If you’re selling an old home, it’s important to think about boosting the value and making it more attractive to potential buyers. There are easy and cheap methods for this as well as more expensive ventures. You can start by considering smaller changes. For instance, repainting your walls cream will give buyers a fresh canvas to design their dream home on. Or, you may want to consider bigger renovations. One of the best ways you can add value to your home is by converting your loft into another room.

3) Finding Your New Home

When you are trying to find your new home, you should not be limiting your horizons. If you can relocate to a new location further away, you should consider this. Do some research online to find the right house for you at the right price. But beware some house sellers see the asking price as the equivalent of an opening bid. They expect the home to go for a lot more.

4) Viewing The Home

Once you start considering purchasing a home on the market you must view it carefully. Think about different factors like age as well as any property damage. An inspector will make sure the house is up to appropriate living standards. But, the final decision on the buy is yours.

5) Buying The Home

When you find your new home, you should immediately be considering the path you will take to pay for it. You should consider the different options carefully. As well as this, you should make sure you find the best price for whatever route you take. For instance, if you are borrowing a mortgage make sure you speak to a broker to find the best deal on the market. If you are taking out a home loan, use https://www.tomorrowfinance.com.au to find the best interest rates. That way, you won’t be losing any money on what is sure to be an expensive life change.

Finally, don’t forget, when you buy your home to haggle on the price. The first step will be putting down an offer. Remember an estate agent is required to bring any offer you make to the seller. We recommend you start with an offer approximately ten grand under the asking price and see what they come back with.

Doing Your Part For The Environment: How To Reduce Your Energy Consumption

It seems that our energy bills seem to grow larger and larger every month. As a result, many people are on a mission to reduce their energy consumption. After all, it helps you save a lot of money over the course a year. There are all sorts of ways to increase energy efficiency in the home, and we’re looking at some of the best today. These tricks will also work if you run a business, as many of you do.

Of course, it’s not just about money. We’re all growing more aware of how much impact we’re having on this planet of ours. It might not seem like we can make any difference in our homes. But, every little helps, and if we all make a small change, it will add up to a huge impact. If we all make little alterations, we can slowly change the world. Without further ado, here are the best ways to reduce your energy consumption.

Consume less

This is often easier said than done! We’d all like to cut back on our energy use, but the truth is that you need to be very strict with yourself. At home, try to turn the lights off when they’re not in use. Again, it seems like a tiny change, but you’ll save more than you think. You should also turn off appliances, and turn off the standby buttons. It’s definitely harder when you’ve got children, but you can make sure they’re doing their part too. Take shorter showers, use less water in the kettle, and turn the thermostat down. They’re small, unnoticeable changes, but they make a big difference.

Try a new energy supplier

More and more energy efficient suppliers are cropping up on the market. Ask your current supplier about what they’re doing to improve efficiency and improve their green credentials. You might even find that these energy efficient suppliers are cheaper than your current option. These companies use renewable energy, which often generates more than they need. It means they can sell it back to the grid, and pass the savings onto you. That’s a win-win situation!

Improve insulation and glazing

Your house itself actually plays a big part in the energy efficiency of your home. If your house is well insulated, it keeps the temperature at a constant, manageable level. With poor insulation and glazing, the heat will simply escape the house. You’ll find yourself putting the heating on higher and higher to compensate, which burns through your allowance. You can use trade insulation adhesive to replace your tired old insulation. Another good trick is upgrading the windows to double glazing, and block out any drafts from the doors.

Renewable energy

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to run a completely carbon zero house? That means that the house produces all the energy it needs onsite with renewable energy. It’s an expensive investment, but it pays for itself in just a few years. Solar panels and wind turbines are still the most popular options. They’ve improved significantly over the years, and they can easily power a small household.

There you have it, readers. Those are just some of the best ways to reduce your energy consumption. Do you have any other great tips or tricks to help?

How You Can Help Someone with a Drug Addiction

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Drug addiction isn’t just something that one person has to deal with. Their friends and family are also affected by their addiction and its consequences. If you suspect that someone you know is an addict, it can be difficult to deal with. Not many people automatically know what to do or how to help. You may feel at a loss, but there are several ways that you can try to help and offer your support. Keep reading to find out how you can be there for a friend or family member who is experiencing issues with substance abuse.

Recognizing an Addiction

Many people are unsure how they can identify whether someone is addicted to drugs or not unless they’re actually tested. They may see some warning signs but be worried that they’re jumping to conclusions or going too far. There are some things you can watch out for that help you recognize an addiction in someone else. You can ask some questions, either of yourself or of the person if they’re willing to participate. For example, you can consider whether they take the drugs in larger amounts than they should. You can think about whether their habit affects their ability to handle their responsibilities.

Encouraging the Seeking of Treatment

In the media, you will often see dramatic interventions to address someone’s addiction. However, there isn’t much evidence that pressuring someone is a reliable path to take. You can offer your support, but you shouldn’t push too hard. Your role should be to encourage them to consider treatment options. You shouldn’t give them ultimatums or scare them into doing anything. Talking to them about the possibility of treatment and encouraging them to see a professional is a healthier and safer thing to do.

8116279888_f94a675d4c_zepsos.de

Looking at Treatment Options

One of the helpful things you can do is look at drug rehabilitation options for your friend or family member. Not everyone will respond to a single treatment. So it’s important to find one that will suit the person you’re helping. The program needs to be tailored to their needs, from physical to social requirements. There are several things you need to consider. They range from whether to choose a residential facility to religious affiliations. If you are working with them, you can look at different options together. However, if you haven’t managed to encourage them to get help yet, you can still find places for them to consider.

Providing Support

Another way that you can be there for someone is to provide emotional and social support during and after rehab. It’s a time when friends and family can make a significant difference. You can be a listening ear, but you also must remember to look after your own needs. Helping them to find a support group can be a good idea too. It means they can have people with similar experiences to discuss their problems with.

You can feel helpless when you watch someone struggle with addiction. But there are things that you can do if you want to help them recover.

How to Add Some Extra Comfort to Your Bedroom

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Comfort is an important element in any bedroom. So, if your bedroom isn’t as comfortable as you want it to be, here are some solutions to try.

Buy a Statement Chair

Having a chair in the corner of your bedroom has so many advantages. It allows you to have someone to sit and get comfortable when you want to get away from the chaos of the rest of the home. But that’s not all it’s good for. If you buy a statement chair, it will look great and add something new to the design and layout of the bedroom. They also act as a great place to store extra blankets when they’re not in use. They’re multi-purpose items, so make sure you buy one for your bedroom

Find the Right Carpet

There’s nothing worse than stepping out of bed on a cold morning into a hard, cold floor. That’s why I believe it’s always best to find a good carpet for the bedroom. Carpets are always more comfortable and relaxing that harsh wooden or tiled floors. When you step out of bed onto a warm, cozy carpet, you’ll definitely be sure that you’ve made the right decision. There are so many carpet options too, so you will be sure to find one that offers something stylish and unique for your bedroom.

Upgrade Your Mattress

Let’s face it, the most important thing in any bedroom is the bed. If the bed isn’t comfortable, then the room is failing you. So, if you find yourself tossing and turning during the night, it might be a good idea to think about upgrading your mattress. Mattresses should be changed every few years to make sure that you the support you need to keep your body healthy. You can find double mattresses at pretty low prices nowadays, so it shouldn’t cost you too much to make an upgrade. And it will definitely improve your level of comfort at night.

Buy a Throw

If you want to combine luxury and glamour with an increased level of comfort, then you need to buy a nice throw for your bed. Throws are like blankets but a bit more stylish. This is especially true if you buy a faux-fur throw. They are perfect for those lazy days when you don’t want to get out of bed. And with winter heading our way, they’re perfect for keeping you warm during those freezing cold days and nights. You can find them pretty cheaply too, so they’re a great investment to make.

Add More Pillows

My motto is: if in doubt, add more pillows. This is a rule that you should live by too. You can never have too many pillows in your bedroom when you’re trying to make it a bit more comfortable. You should try to find pillows that are different shapes, sizes and textures to create a bit of variety on the bed. This will give the best visual effect, as well as making the bed incredibly comfortable. You can find all sorts of pillows in shops, so mix and match them to create the most interesting effect possible.
