When you picture your ‘dream home’ you might conjure up images of something completely different to what you have now. However as long as you’re happy with the area, there’s no reason that your current home can’t become your dream home with a few adjustments and renovations. Here are some of the ways you can transform your house, and achieve your dream home without having to move.inside-apartment-design-home

Make The Most Of The Space

Most of us have wasted space in our homes. It could be a cupboard full of things we can’t bear to throw away. A ‘guest room’ that barely gets used or an empty corner of a bedroom. So why not put this space to work? Have a declutter and be brutal. If you have items that sit in storage and never see the light of day, do you really need them taking up space in your home? Wouldn’t that space be much better used for something else? If your idea of a ‘dream home’ has an office, walk in wardrobe or ensuite bathroom you could use this space for these kinds of things instead. Having an extension built or converting your loft into another usable space gives you more places in your home to enjoy. Then you can transform the new rooms into whatever you want.

Rejig The Layout

Small, boxy rooms can feel cramped and claustrophobic. Today’s homes are generally focused around open concept spaces, so taking down or relocating a few walls could be a good move. Having an open plan layout downstairs feels much more airy and spacious, and is much more suited to modern day living. Being able to cook while still being able to socialize with guests, or even getting them involved in the cooking process is the informal way most people like to entertain today. This is in contrast to days gone by, where things were much more formal. Back then the focus was on smaller enclosed kitchens and larger living areas, which explains the layout in most older homes.

Invest In The Kitchen

When you picture your ‘dream home’ it probably features a large kitchen, and so this is one extremely worthwhile renovation. Again an open space works best for modern living. Consider adding a large island which gives you an informal seating area, as well as more space to cook and organize in the kitchen. Having an additional sink, electrics and even an extra hob in the island will make light work of cooking for a crowd. Think of the incredible family events you could host! This is the thing about dream homes, they don’t just look gorgeous but they allow us to live the kind of life that we want. Spending extra on higher end, built in appliances and all of the modern finishes and touches in the kitchen is well worth the splurge. Not only will it add to the luxurious ‘dream home’ appeal but you’ll add an enormous amount of value too.

Think About Gardens

As well as looking amazing on the inside, chances are you’ll want your dream home to look great on the outside too. If your backyard is overlooked, having a privacy fence installed as well as things like pergolas are a good way to transform it into your own secluded haven. Hiring a landscape gardener to design something stunning will give you the best result. Keep front gardens neat and tidy, and add pots of beautiful flowers which will create curb appeal and make you feel happy every time you arrive home.

Your dream home doesn’t have to be a mansion with acres of land and more rooms than you could ever possibly use. With a bit of vision and creativity, your current home could become somewhere you never want to leave.
