As we get older, it’s important to look after ourselves. You’ve got to take the time to make sure you stay fit and healthy. It’s essential to come up with decisions that will benefit your health and your bank balance. These are some of my suggestions to help you do that.

Keep Fit

So this is the biggie, and it’s one we all struggle to get motivated for, myself included. But, exercise is paramount to looking after yourself. You need to get the blood pumping around your body, and you need to trim some of that excess fat. The best way to do this is to implement a vigorous exercise regime. I like to go for options like swimming and running because they’re great for cardio, and they don’t take up the time and cost of gym visits.

Deal With Emergencies

One of the best ways to look after yourself is to deal with issues as soon as they arise. If something seems urgent, then it probably is. You need to get professional opinions as quickly as possible. If you have a medical condition that flares up, there’s a good bet you could need urgent care. I tend to come from the school of thought that it’s better to deal with a problem right away than ignore it and hope it goes away.

Eat Right

We all know that if we want to be healthy we’re going to need to eat properly. Healthy eating is vital for looking after yourself and staying strong and well. It’s imperative to try to maintain a balanced diet full of fruit and vegetables. As a mother of two I put a lot of emphasis on healthy eating because I want to set a good example for my kids. It’s essential they get into good habits that they can take with them later in life. But it also helps me and my husband to keep ourselves and bodies healthy and strong.

Take Vitamins

Because there are so many additions and supplements to help with health these days you could take vitamins. I make sure that I take vitamins on a daily basis. Regular intake of Vitamin C is great for your body, and it helps build up your immune system and can stop you getting sick. You can get small tablets to swallow, or there are soluble versions too. I think it’s very important to maintain a regular Vitamin C intake as much as you can.

Stop Smoking

Everyone has at least one bad habit, but some bad habits are more unhealthy than others. Smoking is one habit that many people find difficult to kick. We know how addictive nicotine can be, so quitting smoking is a challenge. But you need to make sure you stop as soon as possible. There are few things that impact as negatively on your health as smoking does. I know it’s difficult, but if you’re serious about getting healthier, you need to make this a priority.

It’s important for us to look after ourselves and our bodies these days. Since becoming a mother, I’ve placed a lot more emphasis on looking after myself and making sure I stay healthy. You might think you’re too busy to stay healthy, but there’s plenty you can so that will fit in with your lifestyle.

Planning a Winter Break This Year? You Should

Most people travel abroad during the summer, but there are so many advantages of doing it in the winter instead. The destinations are quieter, and if you find somewhere cold and snowy enough, it can be magical! Here’s what you should do if you do decide to take a break next winter.

Plan in Advance

Getting to your destination is the most stressful part of going away on holiday, so it’s something that needs to be planned in advance. Work out how you’re going to get to the airport, and when you do make that journey, leave yourself at least an hour more than you need. That way disruptions won’t make you miss the flight.

When you book your flights is a decision that you’ll have to consider carefully. It can often make sense to leave it late so that you can get the best bargains, but that’s a risky route to take. The safer option is to book well in advance. It’s hard to get a bargain this way, but it does give you security.

Pack Suitable Clothes

Winter breaks are often taken in locations that are incredibly cold. Of course, you could take the chance to get away from the cold at home and head for Australia, but that’s not what most people do. The most popular destinations though are in Northern Europe in places like Finland or Sweden.

This means you’ll have to tailor the clothing you pack to the environment you’re going into. Take plenty of waterproof clothing and as many layers as you can fit into your suitcases. One new idea that is capturing people’s imagination is the Travel Cardigan. It’s a form of warm clothing that also converts into a bag.

Choose Activities Suitable for Everyone

Getting the balance of activities right when travelling with the family can be incredibly difficult. Small children need to be kept interested. Otherwise, they’ll become restless, and it’ll be hard for you to enjoy the holiday too. So, sit down with the family and decide what activities you’ll do before you get there.

You shouldn’t neglect yourselves as parents though. You need to be able to enjoy the holiday and have a good time as well as the children. The trick is choosing a variation of activities. You could see if there are any day centers that can look after your children if the adults want a day out alone.

Pick Your Accommodation Carefully

If you’re taking the family away for a break, the accommodation you choose is something that will need to be thought about carefully. You don’t want to be taking your family to a hotel that has no other families because you’ll feel entirely out of place, so choose a hotel that’s advertised as family friendly.

Alternatively, you might want to ditch hotels completely and choose another form of accommodation. There are all kinds of weird and wonderful places to stay. There are ice hotels in some parts of Scandinavia. Or you could simply rent out a cabin or apartment so that you have a bit more privacy.

Going away in the winter allows you to save up your money throughout the year and end it in style with the family, so give it some thought.

6 Ways to Build Lasting Family Memories

Time seems to go so quickly when you start a family. It seems like one day you were bringing a new life into the world, and then you’re saying goodbye to them as they pack up and move out. Many parents can find it a whirlwind, that seems over before it’s really begun. If you want to cherish all those precious moments, then you need to build long lasting family memories. Not sure what I mean? Here are six examples.

6027975310_7398ce31a3_zImage credit

1. New Tradition

If you want to pass long lasting memories onto your children, consider coming up with a new family tradition. It could be that you have a reunion once a year, on the same day every year. Perhaps it’s that you all have to go out for ice cream after a movie. These memories are something that will stick with everyone forever. When your children have their own children, they’ll be able to pass those traditions on.

2. See the World

Taking your children to see different parts of the world will provide everyone with some incredible memories, that will never leave them. If you have the money, try and take a one-of-a-kind trip with the whole family. It could be driving around Europe in a campervan or visiting a Safari in Africa. If you’re strapped for cash, then you can still tick this box. Just opt for budget friendly ways to see different parts of your local area. Like camping in the garden or playing in the rain.

3. Build a Scrapbook

This is a great way of creating family memories that will truly last. There will be right there on paper! Fill your scrapbook with quotes, cinema tickets, pictures, newspaper cuttings, and anything else relevant to you. Look for a family photographer who can take a beautiful picture of all of you together. You can then use this for the front of the scrapbook. This is something that will be kept for generations to come.

4. Family Hobby

The key to building long lasting family memories is to spend plenty of time together. However, you’re not going to have very many tales from sitting in front of the TV. You should all take up a new hobby together. It could be camping, hiking, playing tennis, cooking. Something you can all do at the weekends when you’re free. You’ll always remember the stories from the days spent together on your favorite hobby.

5. Experience a First

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, that no one in the family has done? If you want a memory that will last forever, then do it together. It could be something wild like bungee jumping. It could just be volunteering for a local charity. Talk about all of the ideas you’ve had and work out which ones your family would like to do. You can then all experience a first together.

6. Laugh. Lots.

Last, but by no means least. When everyone has grown up and moved away, you’ll always remember the laughter. Instead of getting annoyed because things aren’t going to plan, laugh instead. Laugh at it raining so hard it washes your tent away. Laugh at the BBQ setting alight on family day. Laugh and everyone will laugh with you. That’s the key to making long lasting memories.

How do you build lasting memories with your family? Hopefully some of these ideas will become useful. And maybe even make the time slow down a little.

Keeping Your Eyes Healthy: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Of all the organs in the body, your eyes are one of the most important. Without your vision, the world would be a very different place, so taking care of your eyes is vital.

As we age, it’s natural that like everything else, our vision will slightly deteriorate. By the time you are in your forties, you will probably need glasses to correct your vision. However, your eyes should still be healthy, as long as you take good care of them..

Hazel-green_eye_2Picture link

It can be far too easy to take your eyes for granted, until your sight deteriorates, that is. Instead of taking your eyes for granted, take the time to take proper care of them.

To help you ensure that you are taking care of your eyes properly, here are some useful tips and advice:

Eat healthily

Yes, just like what you eat affects your figure, it also affects your eyesight. Studies have shown that eating a diet rich in omega-3, zinc and vitamins C and E, could help to ward off vision problems in later life. According to research, cataracts and macular degeneration, could be prevented by a healthy diet.

The best foods to eat for eye health include leafy vegetable, such as spinach and kale, and citrus fruits, such as oranges. Other foods that are good for eye health are oily fish, like tuna, mackerel and salmon, and also, eggs, beans, and nuts.

Go for regular eye checks

Everyone, regardless of age, should get their eyes checked at least once a year. By getting your eyes checked regularly, if you develop any eye problems, they will be detected early and be easier to treat.

If, for example, you developed cataracts, you would be sent to a specialist for treatment. You can learn more at Peelvision.com.au, where you will find lots of information on cataracts and how they are treated.

The longer eye conditions are left untreated, the worse they get, and can sometimes lead to blindness. That’s why going for regular eye checks is crucial, so that any problems with your eyes, can be caught as early as possible.

Wear sunglasses

Just like the sun can damage your skin, its UV rays can also damage your eyes. That’s why it’s important that when you go out in the sun, that you always wear sunglasses.

However, that being said, to provide any protection, your sunglasses have to be of a high quality. Chances are, those cheap sunglasses you picked up from the mall, offer little to no protection against the sun’s UV rays. If you are serious about the health of your eyes, make sure to pick up a pair of good quality sunglasses as soon as possible.

Your eyesight is one of your most important senses, and if you were to lose it your life would be turned upside down. Thankfully, today most eye conditions are easily treatable, as long as they are caught early, that is.

To keep your eyes healthy, eat a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients, wear sunglasses, and go for regular eye checks.

How To Protect Your Household From The Effects Of Natural Disasters

We recently wrote about some of the major worries faced by all homeowners. This time around, we’re going to go into a little more depth – on the subject of natural disasters. Unfortunately, natural disasters can strike at any time, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop them. However, there is plenty we can do to preempt the problems that they can cause.

Putting the right security in place is vital wherever you live. But, it’s especially so if you are based in an area that natural disasters occur in with any regularity. With this in mind, let’s take a look at some of the protection you can use for your home.

2593478529_a79d07ded2_zFlickr

Floods and water damage

Unless you live on the top of a hill or mountain, then there is a possibility that you will experience flooding, no matter how far away you are from water. Flooding can cause significant problems to your home if you don’t have any protection. Leaving aside the damage to your property, there are significant health risks associated with household floods. You can expect contaminants, bacteria and ‘black water’ that spreads illness to enter your home – and a very costly repair job.

To protect yourself from flooding, you should consider waterproofing your home. Also, if you live on a flood plain, think about building a defensive wall around your home to prevent high levels of water coming in. If there is a flood in your area, then a healthy stock of sandbags can help as a second defensive wall.

Earthquakes and your home

Earthquakes can cause severe damage to your home. Although there is little you can do in an especially violent earthquake, there are still protective measures you should be thinking about. If your house is based in an area with a lot of tectonic activities, you should consider making structural changes. Many new builds, for example, have bolts running through the house that are attached to its foundations.

You should also think carefully about what you keep in your house. If you have furniture and utensils stored at height, you can expect them to tumble down even after a minor quake. So, make sure that everything is strapped or bolted to the walls, and that your cupboards have adequate fittings that won’t burst open.

Wildfires

If you live in a dry and hot location, then you stand a chance of seeing a wildfire at some point in your life. However, they can also happen anywhere and spread very quickly to areas that aren’t expecting it. Learning about the history of wildfires that have happened in your area is a good starting point, and may give you the encouragement to put some protection in place.

The main thing to understand about wildfires is that they won’t be stopped. It can take the combined efforts of several fire services just to keep it under a minimal amount of control. So, it’s important to think carefully about keeping anything flammable in your home because the only thing you can do is reduce the amount of damage it causes.

We hope this has highlighted some of the problems that major disasters can have on your home. And, of course, given you some ideas on how to keep the damage done to your home to a minimum.

Everything You Need For An Easy Bedroom Makeover

While the weather is warm and dry, you may be thinking about making some changes around the home. Many of us tackle painting and decorating when we can open the windows all day to dry the paint and get rid of the smell. In a bedroom, the problem of smelly paint is much worse because we want to be able to sleep in there comfortably when we’re finished.

Thankfully, paint smells are far less offensive than they were years ago. But it is still a good reason to go with wallpaper in the bedroom instead. Some wallpapers have very little drying time so your room can be good to go in a jiffy. For this season, silvers and blues are making a comeback, creating a great partnership. This serene combination is perfect for the bedroom so look for swirly patterns in these colors for your bedroom.

Curtains are very important for the bedroom. They block out the cold in the winter, and the extra daylight in the summer. For extra protection against cold, heat and light, why not add a blackout roller blind? They are very quick and easy to install and provide privacy without having to unfurl the curtains. Shinier fabrics for curtains are on trend this season. Silk and satin finishes are very popular. Check out some bold colors too.

The bed is the focal point of any bedroom. It is also an important piece of kit when it comes to your health. Good sleep is key to cognitive and physical function so make sure you pick a mattress that will help you sleep well. Visit websites like thebedroomstore.com/brands/broyhill.html to see what choices you have to maximize your comfort. For a bed frame, choose something that makes an impact, but also provides practical storage solutions.

A dressing table is so handy for us girls to stow all our bits and pieces in. A good mirror on top helps us get to work on those pesky imperfections that crop up from time to time too! Position your dressing table in front of the window, so you get the best of the natural light. Don’t forget you’ll need easy access to the electrical sockets for your straighteners and hair dryer. Finally, add a colored table runner across the top to tie in the color theme of the room.

You can also place runners or fabric mats in the same color on your bedside tables. This helps bring the room into a theme or color scheme. Your bedding should also be in this color. Decorating your room this way makes changing colors much easier to do. You don’t have to paint anything or buy new furniture. Just change the covers or the runners.

Revamping your bedroom doesn’t need to be a big job. For most of us, a quick change to feature or accent wall might be all we need to do. If you are starting afresh, buying a good bed is the most important task on your to-do list. Enjoy your new bedroom.

6 Ways To Improve Your Garden’s Grand Design

Your garden should be a personal sanctuary for you and your family. A place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. A big blank lawn isn’t going to cut it though. It’s hardly a relaxing meadow. So how can you improve your garden to make it looks great? Here are a couple of ideas for you.

3294840237_4bfdbb94a2_zImage credit

Patio Furniture

Fashion, or function? Why not both? If you’re going to enjoy your garden you might as well do it in comfort. Get a few wicker cabana chairs out there and stick them under a canopy. In rain or shine, you can just sit out there and relax in the shade. If you’ve got guests over these will come in handy immensely. Be sure to keep a few folding chair spare too though, in case the guest list is larger than expected.

Lights

Who says you can only enjoy your garden during the day? When the twilight hours start rolling in, wouldn’t it be nice for a set of lights to start turning on to illuminate your garden?

What about the electricity cost though? Not to worry, just get some solar post caps. These caps have a solar panel on their top. Just stick them on top of a post, and they’ll take in energy from the sun all day long. When night falls, they’ll glow using the energy built up from the sun. Eco-friendly, and beautiful to look at.

Fire Pit

If you want a little heat with your lighting source, why not a fire pit? A fire pit is an inverted metal dome on legs. You fill it with firewood and fire lighters, and light it up. Place the mesh grill over the top, and wait for the flames to rise.

Water Feature

Your garden should be a place just to sit and listen. Somewhere to close your eyes and just track the birdsong in the trees. Something is missing though. The sound of running water is missing. Running water is a relaxing sound. There’s a reason the sounds of rivers and oceans are used to help people get to sleep.

A water feature can add a lot to the look of your garden foot. You can turn it into a centerpiece of the whole garden. Even if you just intend to have a plain lawn for the rest of it. Just plant a water feature directly in the middle and it’ll give a beautiful visual point of interest to the garden.

Potted Plants

Even if you don’t want to dig up the lawn, you can still have plants in pots. Just stick a rosebush on the patio and let it flourish. Just remember to trim it and water it. All plants need upkeep, and gardening can be a relaxing endeavor anyway.

Bird Feeder

Want to keep those birds coming to your garden? You’ve got to give them a reason to. A bird feeder will attract all kinds of birds. It may even bring in a few squirrels. The best addition to your garden’s design will be to make it alive as possible. What better way than to fill it with animals?

Going On Vacation? Essential Beauty Tips To Get You Prepared

11700-a-beautiful-woman-sitting-on-the-beach-looking-at-the-ocean-pvsource

I love to take a break from the familiarity of life and get away every now and again. There is no better feeling than sitting on a beach or exploring foreign lands and completely forgetting about what’s happening back home. Still, you have to take some aspects of home life with you on holiday, and looking your best is one of the most important. Whether you want to show the youngsters that you have still got it or you are single women on the lookout, I’ve got the beauty tips that will make you look like a goddess!

Exfoliation

I would encourage you to exfoliate whether you are at home or abroad, but especially when you go on vacation. First thing’s first: you want to get tan right? Of course, and exfoliating is the best way to do it. A deep cleanse gets rid of bad bacteria and toxins and leaves the skin in an ideal condition to catch a few rays.

Have a Trim

And I’m not talking about a haircut! Getting rid of unwanted hair means you will be good to party any time any day of the week. Waxing or shaving beforehand is just one more thing you don’t have to worry about when you are on vacation!

Get a Haircut

Talking about haircuts, get one before you board the plane. There is no better way to look fresh and at your best than with a new ‘do. Plus, a haircut can complement your body shape if you choose wisely. If you have worked all winter for this moment and wanted to look your best physically, a haircut is a nice little vacation hack!

Get some Sleep

I didn’t realize how important sleep was until recently. I mean, I knew it was important, but I didn’t quite understand how negative the side effects of lack of sleep were. Bedtime is the time of the day where your body can start to relax and shut down. During the rigors of a normal day, it doesn’t get any time for itself, so it can’t recuperate. When you are asleep, your body regenerates cells and repairs any issues, which is why sleep is remarkably important and effective to your appearance. One great tip for a fantastic night’s sleep is to pick the right bed, so consider looking at a variety of beds at nightairbeds.com/sleep-systems/6-chamber-systems.html to pick the most effective one.

If you do get forty winks before your vacation, your skin will shine and you will look revitalized.

Don’t Forget the Small Details

The little things make a big difference, so don’t overlook them. Get the full treatment before you vacation abroad with a manicure, pedicure, massage or whatever you can imagine! Your beauty regime should centre on your whole look, not just one or two facets of it. Taking care of the fine print will make sure you are the belle of the ball whichever country you visit.

Follow these tips to make sure you get the look you want while you are away, not the look that the weather gives you!
