10 Products You Need in Your Hair Care Tool Kit

Having the perfect hair care tool kit is essential if you want beautiful, luxurious looking hair. You can’t use mediocre products (or no products at all) and expect to have salon quality hair every day. These 10 products are essential:

A Leave in Conditioner

A leave in conditioner is super easy to use. Simply shampoo your hair, towel dry, and then spray in your leave in conditioner. It’s especially helpful for hair that gets tangled easily or could use some moisturising products. Just don’t use too much, or you could end up with greasy hair.

A Hair Mask

Apply a hair mask regularly, and you should notice a big difference in the condition of your hair. All you do is apply it generously, especially to the ends of your hair, and then wrap your hair up for a few hours. You can even wrap it up and sleep in it before washing it out in the morning.

Smoothing/Finishing Serums

You can usually buy smoothing/finishing serums in one. They are great for getting rid of flyaways, and giving your hair that salon quality finish. With this sort of product, less is always more!

Natural Movement Hairspray

There’s nothing worse than crunchy hair that doesn’t move. Avoid using strong hold hairsprays and go for a natural movement hairspray instead. This will keep your hair looking bouncy and healthy while holding your style in place.

Volumizing Mousse

If your hair can be a bit flat and lacklustre at times, Davines hair care explains that a volumising mousse can be the answer. Apply to the roots of towel dried hair before blow drying upside down for maximum lift!

Heat Protection Spray

If you use heated appliances, heat protection spray is a must. The less heat you use on your hair, the better, so make sure you use a protectant spray to stop breakages and damage.

A Curling Tong

A curling tong can help to give an extra big, bouncy look depending on the size you go for. Great for all hair lengths and styles. Curl in different sizes and directions for a more natural look, before breaking up with your fingers.

A Hair Straightener

Some people can get away with not using a straightener at all, while others need one to stop their bed hair from scaring people in the street. To keep your hair extra smooth and sleek, use smoothing products and blowdry your hair pointing the nozzle down the shaft. Don’t ever sleep with wet hair!

Sleep in Rollers

Pop in some sleep in rollers before bed time and then go to sleep. Wake up in the morning, remove them, and you should have bouncy hair to rival Cheryl Fernandez Versini!

A Good Brush

We all need a quality brush to smooth our hair out, create volume, tame fly aways, and just make us look presentable in general. A great brush will last years!

Make sure you’ve got these 10 products in your hair care tool kit and you can say buh-bye to bad hair days once and for all!

A Look At Diet and The Affect It Has On Your Body

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Most of us recognize that we should be eating a healthy balanced diet in order to stay slim. However, what we don’t realize is that the food we’re eating each day could be affecting us in many more ways. It is easy to assume that if we’re a healthy weight then our body is in tip top condition, but that is not the case at all. Here are some ways that diet could be affecting your body.

Eating Badly

If you are someone that always feels tired and as if you never have any energy then this could be down to your diet. It is important that your body is nourished every day with the right foods in order to feel fresh and energized. The wrong foods can make it hard for you to sleep and can leave you feeling sluggish. If you have headaches, dry skin, sore throats or anything else that seems to happen on a regular basis then you might want to look at your diet. Eating well can help to ensure that you always feel your best.

Fresh_cut_fruits_and_vegetablesImage used with thanks from Wikimedia

Firstly you should look at the amount of water you are drinking and make sure that you are drinking at least 6-8 glasses a day. You should also make sure that your meals are filled with a variety of fruit and vegetables. We all know that we have good days and bad days, but you’ll notice a big difference if you make a conscious effort to eat well. When you look at how easy it is, there really is no excuse.

Taking Supplements

On top of eating well it could be worth looking at whether taking supplements could help you. Multivitamins are a great way to give your body a boost. If you struggle to eat the right amount of fruit and vegetables a day then putting fruit into water and leaving this overnight before you drink it can help. You get nice flavored water and some of the goodness of the fruit without actually having to eat it.

Feeling Unwell

You might not realize it but you could experience irritable bowel syndrome symptoms and causes (stomach pains, cramps etc) if you eat badly. Irritable bowel syndrome is not a nice illness to live with and you should definitely seek advice from your doctor if you feel like this is something that you have. However, a good diet can also help with this.  It is something that you’ll need to experiment with and see what works for you. Keep a food diary and keep an eye on how foods affect you.

The important thing to bear in mind is that everyone is different. Don’t be put off if the positive changes you are making don’t have much effect. It is simply a matter of playing around and working out what works well for your body. You should also remember that eating well affects what your body is doing on the inside. You can’t see this but you can feel confident that eating well is helping your health. Just be conscious of what you are putting into your body and how this could affect your long term health.

blackish signA few weeks ago I had the unique opportunity to interview some of the actors from the ABC comedy `black-ish.  While on the ABC lot we also got to tour the set that the show is filmed on.
ANTHONY ANDERSON, TRACEE ELLIS ROSS, YARA SHAHIDI, MILES BROWN, LAURENCE FISHBURNE, MARCUS SCRIBNER, MARSAI MARTINABC’s “black-ish” stars Anthony Anderson as Andre “Dre” Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, special guest star, Laurence Fishburne as Pops Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson, Jr., and Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson. (ABC/Bob D’Amico)

johnson house black-ishOur tour started in front of the Johnson’s house where as you can see there were lights and other filming equipment along the outside of the house.  You can see it in this picture but there is a backdrop on the wall with a backdrop of “the outside” directly to the right of this picture so if an actor opens the front door it looks like they are really looking outside.  If the scene is a longer scene with the door open then they digitally add the outside for the scene so there will be movement, people passing by, etc., like you would have in a normal neighborhood.

ceiling black-ishRight away when you walk onto the set you notice it looks just like a normal home with a few major differences.  First, if you look up you’ll notice that there isn’t a normal ceiling.  This is to accommodate all the lights, cameras, and other equipment.  You’ll also notice that the hallways are wider than normal.  This is also to accommodate the equipment.
touches of home black-ishYou will also notice LOTS of familiar household items that make this house seem so real and “lived in”.  There were magazines and games in the living room, TONS of photos on the walls, and even juice boxes placed around the house just like you’d find in most houses with children.  For the frames with all of the family pictures the actors spent a day shooting these pictures together just to make them more real.  There is so much attention to detail in the house that is truly a home.
cori on black-ish set collage2Here I am posing in some of the rooms of the house.  The kitchen is totally my dream kitchen.  It’s so BIG!
master bedroom black-ishI LOVE the master bedroom.  In the picture above you can see the master bathroom (I LOVE the colors!), Rainbow’s vanity that actually had nail polish remover and other items on it, and Dre and Bo’s bed.  Yes, that’s me sitting on the bed that Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross sit on!
master closet black-ishOne of my favorite parts of the house was the master closet.  I could LIVE in this closet.  It was HUGE!  Check out all of Dre’s shoes!  The closed closet on the left of this picture is Rainbow’s closet.  I love how big and organized it was with so much space for all of her clothes.  I dream of having such an amazing closet one day!
kids' bedrooms black-ishThe kids’ rooms each matched their personalities.  The 2 pictures on the top left are Andre Jr.’s room, the top right are Zoey’s room, and the bottom 4 are from the room that twins Jack and Diane share.  I love how they have the room divided in half by wallpaper for the twins.  Such a cute idea!

So do you recognize any of the rooms from the show?  Which is your favorite?
P1230165If you haven’t watched `black-ish yet, what are you waiting for?!?!  This show is seriously hilarious!!!
`black-ish airs at 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC

Here’s a bit of info on tonight’s episode:
BLACK-ISH – “Oedipal Triangle”- Dre’s mother, Ruby (guest star Jenifer Lewis), comes for a visit, and she smothers her pork chops with gravy, Dre with love, and would like to flat out smother Bow, who feels the same way about her. Dre tries to find a way to get the two most important women in his life to get along, on “black-ish,” WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19 (9:31-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

I’ve been a fan of Dancing with the Stars for years so getting the chance to attend a live taping was a dream come true.  24 other bloggers and I got all dolled up and attended the live November 3rd taping.  (Lots of photos coming up!)  dressed up for DWTSGetting All Dolled Up For Dancing With The Stars
We arrived at the studio and the excitement started as soon as we saw the trailers and parking spots for the dancers and the stars.
parking dwtsWe had a chance to take a few photos like the group photo below before we were ushered to our assigned seats.

mommy bloggerThis is what was on our seats!me on DWTSIt was surreal to look around and see the area where the band sits, the judges’ table, and the dance floor.  Our seats were on the second level right across from the judges’ table where we had a bird’s eye view of everything that was going on below us.

views from DWTSWhile we waiting for the show to start we got to watch some of the dancers warm up and shoot an upcoming promo for the 10 year anniversary.  Here’s what our view looked like and a clip of the dancers practicing for the promo.  I wish my hips worked like this!

DWTS 10 year promoIt was so exciting to be at the show live as it was airing.  The energy was palpable.  My tip for you- if you ever get the chance to attend a live DWTS taping make sure to wear comfortable shoes.  There is A LOT of standing up when the show is live and sitting down on commercial breaks.  And your hands might hurt from all the clapping.  But I wouldn’t change a second of my amazing experience.  The music, the dancing, the excitement of waiting to hear the judges’ scores.  It was all incredibly exciting!  Here are some pictures of the dances from that night.

It’s always sad to see a star eliminated from the competition.  Michael Waltrip may not have been a great dancer but he had such heart and such a good attitude every week on the show.  I knew he wouldn’t win but it was sad to see such a positive man get eliminated but the competition is just getting fiercer!

My friends and family were home watching the show and grabbed some shots where you can see me in the audience.
Look, here I am:

On our way back to our shuttle we ran into Bruno Tonioli who was even sexier in person!  Did you see him in my video above?  He certainly brings lots of personality to the show!
bruno dwtsOur exciting night didn’t end there.  We went to a local restaurant/bar, Mixology 101, and had the privilege of  a meet and greet with several of the stars and dancers from the show.  We weren’t sure who the special guests would be.  Then we looked up and in walked Lea Thompson and her partner Artem Chigvintsev.  lea and artemLea looked even more beautiful and YOUNG in person.  I swear she must have taken a trip in the DeLorean time machine because she looked AMAZING.  She was so sweet and down to Earth.  A small group of us took a picture with her and when we went to get up to let the next group have time with her, she said,”Wait, aren’t you going to sit and talk to me!”.  She sat with us like we were old friends.  She told us all about life working on her ABC Family show, Switched at Birth, being on Dancing with the Stars with all the practice that it requires, and being a mom, doing laundry, keeping her house clean, and all her other duties.  My husband’s favorite movies are the Back to the Future Trilogy so he was so jealous when he saw my picture:
Me and Lea ThompsonOur fun and excitement was just starting.  In walked Dancing with the Stars contestant and Duck Dynasty reality personality Sadie Robertson and her parents, Willie and Korie Robertson who go to all the DWTS shows to watch their daughter dance.  I just had to take a picture with another Cori (she spells it Korie) but it’s not every day that you get photobombed by Willie Robertson.  Actually he was supposed to be smiling in the picture and I didn’t know that he was puckering up until after I looked through my camera pictures.
Ducky Dynasty and MeAnd here I am with Sadie’s dance partner, Mark Ballas.
me and markOne of my favorite parts of the night was watching Mark, watching his performance with Sadie from that night on the big tv over our heads and seeing his reactions as they danced.  Dancing with the Stars is filmed live from 5-7 p.m. PST because it airs live from 8-10 p.m. EST.  It then airs at 8 p.m. PST so we were able to watch the show as it aired locally.
mark watching DWTSAnother of my favorite couples is Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy.  They are just so adorable together.
janel and valVal was almost unrecognizable with his clean shaven face.  It’s funny because I get on my husband all the time to shave but part of me wished that Val had his stubble when I met him.  Who am I kidding, he’s a hottie stubble or no stubble.  And as a Pretty Little Liar fan, I was so excited to meet Janel who looked exactly like she does on television.  She was so sweet and pretty.  I could have sat and chatted with them all night.

Janel and Val and MeDancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC!  I can’t wait to watch tonight!

How to Choose Jewelry for Your Special Lady This Christmas

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Christmas is a magical time where we spend time choosing the perfect gifts for our loved ones. A gift that women love to receive at Christmas time is beautiful jewelry. However, men don’t always know what to buy for them as there’s so much choice. It’s true that women can be fussy when accessories are involved. Use these tips to help you:

15447141556_a7eb3f23b2_zPhoto credit

Take Note of What She Wears

Pay attention to what she usually wears so you have an idea of what to buy for her. Does she love a good pair of earrings? Does she only wear a watch? You need to use your better judgement here, as you can do one of two things. You could either get her a piece to add to her collection of similar pieces, or buy her something that she hasn’t already got. It’s up to you! Think about whether she usually likes to step outside of her comfort zone or not and you should have your answer.

Get an Idea of Her Style

Knowing what item to buy is one thing, but having an idea of a woman’s style is a whole different ball game. She might like modern jewelry, vintage pieces, or quirky pieces. Take a look at what she likes to wear and see if you can come up with any prominent themes.

Show a Picture

One idea is to gather the information above, and then head to a jewelry shop and show a picture of your lady. A female employee might be able to select something nice for her from looking at the picture and getting an idea of her personality. If you plan on buying body jewelry such as earrings, make sure she actually has her ears pierced first. If she doesn’t, you can always go for clip on earrings. If you buy her earrings when her ears aren’t pierced, the gift won’t come across as very thoughtful.

Listen to Her

She might already be dropping a ton of hints to you, and you don’t know because you aren’t listening to her. These hints can be extremely subtle, and she might not even know she’s doing it. Either way, make sure you dissect what she says to get an idea of what she might like. Pay special attention when she’s reading a magazine, browsing the web, or watching the TV. These are all times she could be looking at jewelry and saying helpful things, but you wouldn’t know because you aren’t listening.

Ask Her Friends/Family

Her friends and family, especially the female members, might already know her jewelry style. They may even be able to help you pick something! If you’re seriously stuck on what to buy, her best friend or mother might have a better idea. Make sure they know not to give the game away though.

Use these tips and you should end up with a piece of jewelry that your lady loves. Even if it’s something that she wouldn’t have chosen herself, she’ll love it because you put some thought into it!

Disclosure- I have been provided an all expense paid trip to Los Angeles for the Big Hero 6 movie premiere and ABC TV Event in exchange for coverage of these events. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you so much Disney and ABC TV!

16787_10105768820444404_3391648403559720847_nYeah, that’s me hanging out with Big Hero 6’s Jamie Chung (Go Go) & Genesis Rodriguez (Honey Lemon).  During our press trip to Los Angeles last week we had the opportunity to  chat with 2 of the actors from Big Hero 6.  They were both so sweet and beautiful.
Here’s what we learned:

Q    :    What was your favorite part about playing the Character that you played?

JC    :    I think the favorite, in particular with this character, Go Go doesn’t say a lot at the beginning of the film.  But when she does say something, it’s very on point and it’s quite sassy.  She was described to me as the female version of Clint Eastwood of the group.  And it was just fun to sass it up. If I said a line with too much of a smile, the directors Chris and Don would say, “No, No, No, No, No, a little bit meaner”.

GR:  For me it was having to be so positive all the time.  I really feel like I was acting a fool and I was getting paid for it.  It really is just the biggest blessing to have this cast, warm and loving characters because you’ll never get to play that kind of part in a live action thing.  I can speak for the both of us, we’ve been huge Disney fans all of our lives and we’ve been princesses. I literally would comb my red hair in restaurants as Ariel. It’s like a dream come true to be able to play these strong Female Characters and give that back to future Generations.

Q   :    I have a question about Honey Lemon’s character because she looks Caucasian but then there were moments in the film where she had a Japanese accent to me like especially when she said Hiro.  The setting was a mix of San Francisco and Japan and I was wondering if she had a Japanese background as well.

JC    :    So Honey Lemon is very Latina. So that’s the correct way of pronouncing it (Hiro) either way.  The beautiful thing about Latinas is we come in all colors. My mom is Honey Lemon.  She’s blonde, real natural blonde, lighter eyes.  It’s wonderful that it’s not like a stereotype of any sorts.  I feel like she pronounces it that way because it’s more endearing or it’s more like she cares about him.

Q    :    Had you voiced an Animated Character before?

JC    :    Nothing on this caliber. Once you’ve done a Disney Animation Film, it’s the top of the top, you know what I mean?   You’re good!  But I did do a cartoon for a different network and it was a half hour and everyone got fired, the cast, the writers, everyone.  That was kind of the worst experience.

Q    :    Did you like having such a strong having a strong female lead in the movie?

JC    :    Absolutely!  Talking further on stereotypes, what I love about this film is that there is no stereotype.  It kind of breaks all of those boundaries in terms of being a nerd and being not cool. This is the absolute opposite of that.  In terms of strong female characters, like Honey Lemon and Go Go are so different from each other and yet they both represent strength in their own way.  What Disney’s great about is not a cookie cutter example of “this is a strong woman”.  They both come in different shapes and sizes and different shades and what not and that’s what I love about this.

Q    :    A couple of my Readers have asked, when you’re in studio and you’re doing your voices are you very animated while you’re doing it, like everybody’s listening to it in their heads and jumping around or is it very calm when you’re doing it?

GR    :    I heard this story of a famous voice over actor and he prefers to lay down and say all of his lines.  I don’t know how that’s possible because I have do the motion and I think Jamie is the same way.  You have to do the motion in order to get that sound out.  It’s so hard to do because you have to stay still.  But it’s like “now make a noise like you’re falling 6 feet and you’re landing on the floor, like that noise, like that “UGH” when you’re falling.  It’s really hard to do.  You have to use your imagination but it helps you.  I couldn’t not move.  And energy!  I can’t imagine saying my lines (without moving).  So immediately when I started with the hands (in an exaggerated high voice) “Like Oh My God, Hi!”  So there’s definitely lots of hand movement.  Probably I was like 4 feet away from anything around me.

Q    :    What did you wear to get into character?  I know when you talk to some actors they wear heavy shoes to get into these characters?  Did you do something like that?

GR    :    What’s weird is that I did, the audition exactly like Honey Lemon and I hadn’t seen the character at all.  I took a very bold fashion choice.  I did socks in heels and I did an undershirt and then a dress over it.  I don’t do that at all. I don’t know why I went like that and then I saw Honey Lemon and the way she dressed and it was freaky.  I couldn’t have planned it better.

JC    :    It often helps.

GR    :    It helps yeah.

10453428_10105768819611074_5236990277063866445_nQ    :    How did you prepare?

GR    :    There’s really not much you can prepare because they improvise and you don’t have any idea what the story is about.  I think we both did read.

JC   :    I did, I auditioned, yes.  But it was a constant progression and change and so every day, it’s like the new version and you go through all your lines of a new version.

GR    :    I think the most important thing is to be unique because once you’re in the room, you can really go and figure out where it’s supposed to be and they say, “OK, you’re onto something” and then you kind of go with that mojo. So that’s the only thing that you can do you have to be able to play.  You really have to just tap into your inner kid and make that voice.

JC    :    It may sound pretty strange (because) it’s just your voice but it’s so much more than that.  I would stretch.  I would physically warm up, warm up my voice.  I would stretch like we’re going in like run a marathon.  [LAUGHTER]

Q    :    Did you add your own personality to the characters?

JC    :    I think the interesting thing when you add a voice to it, personality to it because it really does come alive.  And if you look at each character and compare them to the person that’s playing them, they embody that character. Genesis to me is Honey Lemon.  Her own personal attributes are what kind of gives this character life and I think that’s what they did with casting.  They wanted the characters to kind of represent the actors that are playing them.

Q    :    Did you see each other a lot?

GR    :    We met a month ago.

JC    :    At the first cast dinner when the film was done.

GR    :    Yeah, when it was finally done but I think Disney does such a good job at hiring, honest honorable people that have to portray these characters that they’re perfect at what they do, and they hire really special people.  Everyone that was cast was just adorable and so much fun and we immediately clicked.

Q    :    Were there any particular scenes that were done together or were they all voiced separately?

GR    :    I think Ryan Potter who plays Hiro, I think he had some scenes with Maya Rudolph together.  They were able to do like openings together but Maya was on very strict time restraints. But I think they got 20 minutes together, more than any of us.

Q    :    What’s your favorite scene in the movie with your character?

GR: She has the best line in the movie, I think which is “Woman Up.”

JG: I think the most interesting would be when they all have their new gear and they’re testing it out and kind of feeling it out and all trying to take them out.

GR: My favorite too is when we get in the car chase.

10612748_10105768819117064_6339997530231107436_nQ    :    Other than your Characters, who’s your favorite character and not Baymax?

GR    :    Fred is hysterical.  What’s funny is that T.J. is such a great comedian.  He’s like totally Fred, too.

JC    :    I liked Wasabi.  I feel a lot of resemblance with (him).  He was a worry wart and he cares about safety and the safety of everyone.

GR    :    And his scream!

Q   :    There are so many emotional pulls in the movie. Was there anything in particular that really triggered you?

JC    :    The first time I didn’t cry cause I was absorbing everything and very aware. Last night when I watched it with my nephew and my family and everyone, I let myself go and the moment where he goes, “You can’t leave me Baymax” I’m like [CRIES].  I’m just about to cry right now, it was so good.

GR    :    I cried 3 times and I’m not gonna say the last two because I don’t want to spoil it to the readers but the first time I cried, apart from when I saw the Disney logo because that’s so surreal for me, so I cried when the movie started.  It’s the flight scenes when he sees his. Oh that kills me. And when Baymax sees that he’s making him happier and he takes off again.

JC    :    What I love about them is they’re not afraid of untold story that’s like tragedy.  It’s like real life issues.  Disney is not afraid to address to the younger generation.  I think it’s what they do because in the end, everything is gonna be OK. It’s OK to be sad.  And it’s OK to be happy.  And then it’s the process of overcoming grief.  It’s really important.  And it’s always kind of a diffused message and it’s always there but kids get it.

GR    :    It’s a lesson about doing the right thing.

Q    :    Do you think that doing the movie anyway changed your perspective on certain things?  Going forward, does it want you to be better?

GR    :    Oh yeah.

JC    :    In terms of like sending the right message, it is a superhero movie but it stresses the importance of education and science. I love that the message that it sends is that intelligence and smarts is not sex biased, no more is it race biased.  Everyone’s equal and everyone has that same opportunity to reach that milestone in terms of education.  So I think it’s cool to part of that and also in terms of 10, 20, 30 years from now, this movie still will be relevant.

GR    :    I was so excited for a movie to talk about robotics and technology.  I was into robotics and I’m an official nerd.  To even have a movie that’s making girls want to be in technology and be smart.  I hope girls especially after this movie will be the first ones to raise their hands in class and realize that being smart is empowering.  Robotics is cool.  Science is cool.
