Disclosure- I went on an all expense paid press trip sponsored by Disney.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Last month while I was a part of Disney’s #MonkeyKingdomEvent in Orlando, 24 other bloggers and I had the opportunity to stay in one of several luxury All Star Vacation Homes.  Located at 8039 Acadia Estates Ct., the home I stayed in was incredible.  It is 3,183 square feet, has 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and sleeps a maximum of 12 guests.  Normally my family and I stay at either a Disney property or an hotel in the Disney area but that was before my experience at the All Star Vacation Home.  There are so many reasons to stay in a vacation home instead of a hotel.  Here are a few of them.

BEAUTY

DSC_0119 (1024x681)When you step into your luxury All Star Vacation Home it’s like stepping into a model home.  It is beautifully decorated yet feels like home.  It is the perfect comfortable home away from home for your Orlando vacation.

 SPACE

Floorplan

When you stay in an All Star Vacation Home it’s not like staying in a small hotel room where you have no privacy and everyone has to share one or two rooms with little space to spread out and relax.  The All Star Vacation Homes are 2 story homes with several master bedrooms, twin bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a dining room, kitchen, pool, and more!  You and your family won’t be tripping all over each other in this house!  Each room also has plenty of closet space, drawer space, plus extra linens and towels to make your stay more comfortable.

roomsEveryone can have their own room to spread out and relax in.  Want to vacation with your extended family?  No problem!  There are plenty of rooms (and bathrooms) for everyone!  Instead of spending money on several hotel rooms, this is a much better way for a large family to spend their vacation.
Nemo Room (1024x681)

They even have fun themed rooms for the kids!  How cute is this Nemo room?  One of the other houses has a princess room..

COMFORT

couchThere are so many comfortable places to put your feet up and relax in these homes.  The bed I stayed in was so plush and cozy that I feel asleep quickly and slept like a baby every night.  There are plush reclining chairs in the home theater, cushy couches in the living room, and lots of chairs out by the pool to enjoy on your down time.  When we vacation we’re usually going, going, going so it’s nice to have a place that is comfortable to just relax and enjoy some much needed down time.  When you stay at a hotel the couches are usually pretty hard as are the chairs and you have to fight for chairs around the pool.  No need to worry about any of that when you stay in a private home.  If you stay in one of these vacation homes make sure to leave a day or two free just to stay home and relax.  It will be much needed after several crazy days at the parks.

ENTERTAINMENT

entertainmentIf you stay at an All Star Vacation Home you don’t have to leave the house to have fun.  Upstairs there is a full sized video game and a pool table so get ready to rack ’em up!  Need to do a little work, there’s even a comfortable desk plus each house has it’s own WiFi.
screening roomWant to watch your favorite shows or even a movie?  Not only is there a television in the living room area but there is a plush, comfortable media room for everyone to enjoy.  I just love how it was decorated with lots of classic movie posters.

COMFORTS OF HOME

kitchenOne of the things I love most about staying in a vacation home is having a full kitchen with all the comforts of home at my disposal.  It is gorgeous and they’ve really thought of everything.  I didn’t get to cook at much in the kitchen because we were kept pretty busy on our press trip but I did cook a few times and this kitchen really had me wishing that it was my kitchen at home!

comforts of home 2The kitchens at the All Star Vacation Homes are fully stocked with every appliance, utensil, cookware, and dishware you might possibly need. They’ve thought of everything- full size side by side refrigerator with ice maker and water in the door, gas stove, toaster, coffeemaker, blender, electric can opener, measuring cups, and so much more!  They even stock the house with dish soap, a roll of paper towel, and detergent for the dishwasher plus containers to save your leftovers!  Save money on dining out and cook some of your meals in your home away from home.

diningReady for breakfast or a midnight snack?  You can dine comfortably in the kitchen nook area.  Want a more formal dining experience?  Check out the beautiful dining room table that seats six.

laundry

Don’t worry about bringing your entire closet with you on your trip.  Each house features a full size washer and dryer so you can do a quick load and have clean clothes.  Do a load before you leave and you won’t have to worry about doing mountains of laundry when you return from your vacation.  That is usually one of the things I hate about coming back from vacation.  It was so nice coming home and having all my laundry done for a change.

GREAT FOR FAMILIES

highchairMy girls are tweens now so we don’t travel with lots of gear anymore (thankfully!) but I was pleasantly surprised to find a high chair and a jumper for children as well as a childproof gate around the pool.  Those would have been such a blessing when my girls were younger.  While my family doesn’t need the baby gear, the All Star Vacation Homes are so family friendly for all types of families.  It would be so nice to stay in a house where I wouldn’t have to worry about my kids being too noisy, as they often are.

PRIVATE POOL AND HOT TUB

poolHate trying to find a towel or a lounge chair at a crowded hotel pool?  Don’t like swimming with that creepy old man watching you and your kids?  Or the rowdy teenagers on vacation from college?  That’s not a problem at an All Star Vacation Home.  Step right outside to your private pool with ample space for lounging around.  Feel like spending a relaxing day by the pool and in the hot tub?  There’s even a barbecue if you want to have a cookout.

With so many amazing comforts and amenities, once you stay at an All Star Vacation Home, you’ll never want to stay in a hotel again!

10 Ways to Make Traveling Much Easier

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

The more you travel, the more it becomes second nature to you. However, even seasoned travelers can find it difficult and stressful. The following 10 techniques might just make it easier for you, so have a look and see what you think.

1. Download Lots of Apps

Before you leave the house, while you have lots of wi-fi, download apps. There are apps that can help you with everything, so make sure you take a look and find some that would help you on your travels. Want to know where to eat and what to do? There’s an app for that. Want to find ridiculously cheap flights? There’s an app for that too!

2. Make Lists

Lists help to give you peace of mind and remind you of anything you may have forgotten. I like to make a list of things I’m packing so I can check them off as I put them in and take them out of the case. Even Mrs Potato Head says you should do this.

3. Keep All Your Documents Together

Keep all of your documents together so you don’t have much chance to lose them. In fact, buy a special folder so you know where everything is. You can then grab them at a moment’s notice and won’t need to faff around. You’ll need documents if you’ve booked up some holiday apartments in New York, documents for any activities you’ve booked, and so on.

4. Get Travel Insurance

Travel insurance will protect you if anything goes wrong, so don’t forget to take it out. In most cases it won’t add much on to the price of your trip, so it shouldn’t be something you worry about.

5. Check and Double Check

Check and double check documents before you leave. It’s only your own fault if you realize afterwards that a detail is incorrect.

6. Write Down Emergency Numbers

You never know what’s going to happen, so write down emergency numbers for future reference. Hopefully you won’t need them, but at least you won’t need to worry.

7. Take Sources of Entertainment

To save your boredom as you wait around and travel, take books and music with you to keep you entertained.

8. Wear Comfortable Clothes

Comfortable clothes will stop you from getting irritable as you take transport to your destination. You should also make sure you wear layers, so you don’t get too hot or cold.

9. Cheer Up

If you smile and think positively as you travel, you’ll have a much better time. You’ll automatically make others respond to you differently, which if they work with the airline, can make your travel way more pleasant.

10. Notify Your Bank

Nobody wants to be left in the lurch in a foreign country, but if you don’t tell your bank that you’re travelling, it could happen to you. Notify your bank before you leave so that you have money when you need it.

I hope you love these tips and they help to make your travels so much easier. See you next time!

Understanding How Cushing’s Disease Affects Your Horse

It is always a terrible time when your pet or animal is ill. It can feel like a family member is in the hospital. You may feel helpless and depressed. The situation can be even worse if you do not understand what is wrong with your friend.

Cushing’s disease is an illness that affects horses. There is no cure, but it can be managed.

There are many signs that your horse has Cushing’s disease. But the most prevalent symptom is a long fur coat that does not shed. Other signs can include weight loss and fatigue. This can occur even when your horse still has a tremendous appetite for its meals.  Your horse may develop a pot belly or fatty deposits across its body. You may feel its muscle tissue have weakened or notice it has started to sweat a lot.  Many of these symptoms are missed if they occur in the later years of a horse’s life. However, if you do see the signs, it is a good idea to speak to a veterinary professional.

Equine Cushing’s disease is common in smaller breeds. However, it can be found in all horses. Simplified, Cushing’s disease is caused by irregularity in your horse’s hormones. This causes more of a steroid to be released from the pituitary gland in the brain. The impact of the steroid results in the majority of the recognised symptoms.

As we have said, there is no cure for this disease but it can be managed. There is medication available like prascend tablets. These drugs will help reduce the chances of secondary effects like Laminitis. Laminitis can be fatal for horses, and it can cripple their hooves.

Your horse may have Cushing’s disease, but it is not receiving medication. If this is the case, then proper management is essential. You should be checking your horse regularly for cuts, wounds and any sign of infection. Infections may recur due to your horse having a weaker immune system than usual. You should also be keeping special care of your horse’s teeth, cleaning them as often as possible. This will help it’s chances against a nasty infection.

You should also be checking it’s hooves.  Keeping on top of things will help your horse maintain a good lifestyle. Weigh your horse as often as you can and change its diet based on the results. A good, well-balanced diet is essential for a horse with Cushing’s to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Keep up all the usual routines, such as worming and vet visits. Please remember Cushing’s can make your horse more tolerant of pain but more likely to feel tired. Take good care of your animal and always treat it with love and respect.

Cushing’s is a horrible disease, but it will not always lead to you having to say goodbye. Proper care and attention along with medication can help your horse live a long, happy life even after a diagnosis. If you think your Pony or Horse might be displaying symptoms of this disease, please arrange for a visit from a vet.

5 Healthy Things You Can Do For Your Family This Summer

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

The bright, warm weather is a natural motivator. It makes us all want to live healthier and happier lives. That’s what makes summer the perfect time to take review your family’s current lifestyle and to think about where and how you can make some healthy amendments. From spending more time outside to eating better, I have plenty of suggestions for families who wish to clean up their way of life this summer.

1. Get active!

Most of us are guilty of spending too much time indoors watching TV. The summer months are the best time of year to spend time being active in the fresh air. Some ideas for fun outdoor activities include a game of tennis in the garden, a bike ride to the beach or park and a long walk around the local area. How about trying to do at least one outdoor activity a day. Do ensure you and your family protect their skin properly when out in the sun.

2. Arrange check-ups

When we are very busy, arranging general health check-ups can easily slip our minds. When you have some downtime during your summer break, it is a good idea to arrange appointments for the doctor, dentist and other necessary check-ups for the whole family. Even if everyone is in good health, this is still good practice. Also ask yourself whether your current doctor and dentist are up to scratch. Dental clinics like Waterdown Smiles Dentistry specifically cater for families. Practices like this may be able to offer your family more appropriate services than you currently receive.

3. Eat better

Are there things you could be doing to improve your family’s diet. For example, are you eating enough home cooked meals? Pre-prepared meals tend to be loaded with calories, sugar, salt and unnatural ingredients. If you can reduce your intake of these by making more meals from scratch, this will benefit the whole family. And, of course, eating more fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds and drinking more water will also do wonders for your family’s health.

4. Spend quality time together

When you think about taking care of the health of your family, it is important not to solely concentrate on physical matters. You should also consider the emotional health of your family. Moods can significantly improve with plenty of quality time spent as a family. This time can be spent doing anything your family loves to do, from camping to a movie night. If you are worried about any member of your family, it can help to make it known that you are there for them if they want to talk.

5. Have fun!

When you and your family are smiling and laughing a lot, this can do wonders for your overall health. So, make it your mission to have a fun-filled summer this year.

I hope you find these suggestions helpful for your family. If you have any more ideas of healthy things to do for your family this summer, please let me know.

How to Plan a Summer Lawn Party

Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

You wouldn’t necessarily know it, but summer is just around the corner. It’s time to relax, unwind and get your friends together to enjoy the warm weather.

Before you do that, however, you need to do some planning. Below are a few pointers to help keep you on track.

Plan thoroughly

5878513664_22ca127ac6_b

Perhaps it’s an obvious thing to say, but summer lawn parties don’t plan themselves… Before you can enjoy the day itself, there are a number of factors you need to take into consideration. These include your budget and knowing what kind of party you want to have. Once you’ve come to a conclusion on these issues, you can start thinking about the logistics. How many people do you want to have round? How do you want your guests to interact with one another? And most importantly, given the inclement British weather, what do you do if it’s raining on the day in question?

Invitations

A good party invitation is a creative one: it should stand out and make your guests want to attend. If you know what kind of party you want to have, organising the invitation becomes a lot easier. Is there a theme to your day? Is there a particular person you want to celebrate? If so, these should be taken into account when it comes to the design. If you’re struggling for ideas, why not head down to the local craft store to get some inspiration before making your own?

Food

108991830_84a0e82464_z

For parties, most people like something bite-sized. Nibbles and drinks are probably a better bet than a sit-down meal. You should decide in advance whether you want guests to bring their own dishes, buffet-style, or whether you will provide the supplies yourself. Both options can work very well.

Entertainment

If you want your guests to interact with one another – particularly those who are meeting for the first time – it’s a good idea to lay on some entertainment. That way, everyone has something to talk about. The entertainment can, of course, come in the form of your party theme. Live music can offer the perfect end to a summer evening’s entertainment. To keep the kids happy you could invest in some outdoor toys to keep them busy, stores like Tesco have a great range to choose from.

A summer lawn party can be an unforgettable seasonal event, but it requires careful organisation. Remember that there’s nothing better than when a plan comes together.

image002 (1)Last month I had the amazing opportunity to go to Magic Kingdom with 24 other bloggers and while we were there we went on one of my favorite rides, the Carousel of Progress.  I just love watching how things changed over the course of a century and I dream about what’s to come in the future..carousel of progress carousel2 tomorrowland tomorrowland2 I saw a sneak peek of Tomorrowland when I went to Orlando a few weeks ago for the Monkey Kingdom Event and it was AMAZING.  I can’t wait for this movie to come out.  Tomorrowland is one of my favorite places in Walt Disney World so I am especially drawn to this movie.  It stars George Clooney judging from the trailers it looks like one big adventure of a movie! From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland,” a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever. Featuring a screenplay by “Lost” writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen, “Tomorrowland” promises to take audiences on a thrill ride of nonstop adventures through new dimensions that have only been dreamed of. The film also stars Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson. “Tomorrowland” is produced by Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird and Jeffrey Chernov and directed by Brad Bird, with John Walker, Bernard Bellew, Jeff Jensen and Brigham Taylor serving as executive producers. “Tomorrowland” opens in U.S. theaters on May 22, 2015. “Casey” featurette “Athena” featurette “What Is Tomorrowland” featurette “Citizens Of Tomorrowland” featurette

image004 (1)Here are some fun facts from Tomorrowland- FUN FACTS • Director/writer Brad Bird is no stranger to the world of Disney and it isn’t just from working on his previous films. When he was 11, Bird developed an interest in animation and over the course of three years he finished a 15-minute animated film that came to the attention of Disney Animation, who offered to assign a mentor—the famous Master Animator Milt Kahl—to the then 14 year old. Bird stayed with a family friend in Los Angeles to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime offer. • When the concept of “Tomorrowland” was just percolating in writer/producer Damon Lindelof’s mind, Sean Bailey, president of production at Disney told him about a box that had been discovered accidentally in a closet at the studio. The “mystery box” contained all sorts of fascinating models and blueprints, photographs and letters seemingly related to the inception of Tomorrowland and the 1964 World’s Fair. Lindelof imagined that these findings were a guide to a secret story that nobody knew about; a place called Tomorrowland that was not just a theme park but existed somewhere in the real world. This became the jumping-off point for the story of “Tomorrowland” that Lindelof would later develop with director/producer Brad Bird and executive producer Jeff Jensen. • In recreating the 1964 World’s Fair for “Tomorrowland,” filmmakers were lucky to find that one of the iconic pieces, the Unisphere, was actually in Flushing Meadows, New York, standing outside of the USTA National Tennis Center. The huge globe’s fountains are still in place as well as the gardens. The filmmakers dispatched a photographer to New York to take photos so that they could use the real images as a composite element in the scenes. • For the 1964 World’s Fair, the Walt Disney Company created three rides, the It’s a Small World ride being the one we remember most. Though quaint by today’s standards, back in 1964, Carousel of Progress and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln were revolutionary in how they used robotics and ride technology to create a thematically rich experience. • When it came to creating a city built by visionaries with advanced technologies, filmmakers knew it had to look like one and finding such a place was not an easy task. At first it seemed as though the whole of Tomorrowland would have to be built from scratch, an expensive and time-consuming proposition. But then in a series of wonderful coincidences, Tom Peitzman, the visual effects producer and the film’s co-producer, stumbled upon a car commercial early on in production; the location in the commercial looked so futuristic that he recorded the ad on his phone and brought it to director Brad Bird. The location turned out to be the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain, and was designed by Santiago Calatrava whose work was already serving as an inspiration for production designer Scott Chambliss. The discovery also dovetailed with director Brad Bird’s preference for physical locations over virtual sets. • For the filmmakers, the bizarre memorabilia emporium, Blast From the Past, was a fun—and nostalgic—set to create. Set decorator Lin MacDonald spent months curating the extensive display of collectibles, consisting of thousands of pieces, both purchased and manufactured by the production, and many originals—some from Brad Bird’s own collection. There are shelves and shelves of comic books and items such as classic sci-fi movie posters, an original Luke Skywalker action figure from the 1970s, and even items from “Space 1999.” The production design team literally built a store and set it in the middle of a sound stage. • Designed by illustrator Tim Flattery of “Men in Black” fame, the plasma ray guns used in the comic-book store scene feature interactive light that spills out into the environment, adding to their air of authenticity. The guns were built with a very small but powerful wireless battery pack that fits on the end. Upon the actor hitting the trigger, the gun throws interactive light out the front. When the “plasma” is empty, a red light goes on and, as the gun recharges, the lights turn blue again. • One aspect of working with the child actors, Thomas Robinson (Young Frank) and Raffey Cassidy (Athena), was that if you take an eleven-year-old and start them on a movie in the summer and don’t finish the movie until mid-winter, chances are they going to grow, and that includes their teeth. When Raffey arrived in Vancouver ready to start work, she was missing teeth, so she had to get fakes made before the start of principal photography. Then Thomas started losing his teeth one by one. So the kids spent a lot of time getting “flippers” made, which are temporary, removable teeth. • Young Raffey Cassidy, who plays Athena, underwent training in swimming, gymnastics, wirework and martial arts, which was the primary focus of her training as her character kicks some serious butt in the movie. 2 • The Bridgeway Plaza took six months to build and was about half the size of a football field. The set was so enormous that no sound stage existed that could house it and considerable height was also required for the intended aerial work above the set and for the cranes big enough to hold the lights required to illuminate the set. Adding to the complexity was the fact that the set had to serve different time periods over the course of the script: 1964, when young Frank first visits; 1984, the period in Casey’s pin-induced vision; and 2014, when the remainder of the story takes place. This required six-week intervals between shoots to allow the production design crew time to redress and alter the set for each time period. • The Bridgeway Plaza set included a fully functional monorail (called the levitating elevated vehicle). Once the monorail was completely built and the lights and glass were put in, it weighed about 35,000 pounds. That meant that the crew had to figure out how to move the hefty monorail—loaded with principal cast— safely down a track that was elevated 16 feet in the air and stop it at exactly the same position time and again. They came up with hydraulic winches that could be shut down very quickly in an emergency and brakes that they could apply whenever they wanted to bring the monorail to a very specific mark to stop, open the door automatically and have the cast walk out. • The film started principal photography on a farm in Pincher Creek, Alberta, where the filmmakers paid a farmer to grow winter wheat that had a particular shade of amber—director Brad Bird’s vision of rural perfection. Then the crew moved to a farm in Enderby, in British Columbia’s Okanagan, to shoot the Walker farm and its cornfields, also grown specifically for the production. • In addition to sets in Spain and Canada, locations included the “It’s a small world” ride at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., a beach in the Bahamas and a secondunit shoot in Paris. In total, the film had over 90 different combinations of sets and locations, and moved ten times. • Costume designer Jeffrey Kurland had to dress almost 400 extras in 1964-era attire for the Hall of Invention and Unisphere Plaza World’s Fair scenes. • The 1964 jet pack designed for Young Frank (Thomas Robinson) was a feat of engineering and imagination. It has 40 different fasteners on the backpack frame and has mounts for Electrolux vacuum cleaners on the sides. Control cables operate the small shovels on the back. Cables run through the jet pack onto the handles so the actor can control it. The jet pack was fastened to a plate and could be easily removed from the frame so that Thomas did not have to walk around with 20 lbs. of jet pack on his back between takes. 3 • For the props department, creating props for the different time periods of the film—1964, 1984 and 2014—was a challenge. There are different influences and materials that affect the manufacture and design of the props for each era, so every prop needed to be carefully researched and analyzed to make sure the technology and materials they planned to use existed in the time period. Then the filmmakers had to try and find the real parts to make things authentic. • Filmmakers were thrilled to see a real NASA Maven rocket launch (a probe to Mars) at the Cape Canaveral set location and several of them were able to view the launch from a position closer than the press viewing stage. For the filmmakers, it was a dream-come-true and symbolized the future that the film inspires.

2014 Kia Optima Hybrid Review

Although my time behind the wheel of the Kia Optima Hybrid was relatively brief, I was still able to experience most of the cool features of this Kia, as well as realize why the Optima is Kia’s best selling vehicle in America.

kiaPhoto credit- Kia Motors

Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of driving home a Kia Optima after a pretty awesome week in Orlando. But just like the week’s activities, this Optima was unique and unlike all others —it’s a hybrid.

Demand of hybrid vehicles is at an all time high, and as I drove the Optima Hybrid from Orlando, to our home in South Florida, I got a glimpse of why that might be. The Optima is very spacious and comfortable inside, and my girls definitely loved their time in the backseat. Although when it comes to enjoying seats, I was definitely in love with the heated seats…I’m just kidding, the COOLED seats, who needs heated seats in Florida? Can you imagine cooling down your leather seat during a hot summer day? Well, you can do just that with the Optima Hybrid!  Plus it has heated seats for cold winters, too!

We took the Kia Optima for a quick trip to Downtown Disney during our week in Orlando and it was such a pleasure putting in the address and having the car’s GPS direct us exactly where we needed to go with ease!  The Hybrid model adds a few unique exterior touches like clear taillights and clear side markers, but overall, the Hybrid model looks more modern than it’s internal combustion-only sibling.

On the road, the Kia Hybrid is smooth and quiet, and depending on whether you are on the highway or street, it’s behavior can vary. At lower speeds the Kia will use its 46.9-hp electric motor to make sure gas efficiency remains a priority, but at higher speeds the 154-hp gasoline engine will seamlessly activate and deliver extra power and speed. Even though our trip distance wasn’t very long, the Optima delivered an approximate 37mph combined.

Now, if only they could make it clean itself, because once our drive was over the entire front end was splattered in love bugs so I didn’t get any good pictures of this beauty. Hopefully for the 2016 model, right?  I can’t wait to test drive the next Kia.  They have come a long way from when they first came out and I am seriously in love!

As a child, I’m sorry to say that I probably didn’t appreciate my mother as much as I should have done. But now that I am a parent myself, I realize just how much my mom did for me while I was growing up.

As a mommy to two beautiful girls, I now understand just how much my parents, especially my mother, did for me. We might fight and disagree with our moms, but we know that deep down, they only want what’s best for us.

Our moms are there to support us through every stage of life and deserve so much more than what they get in return. Mother’s Day may have been and gone, but you don’t need a day to show your mom how much you love her. You can show your mom how much you care for her and appreciate what she has done for you, any day of the year.

Here are my favorite ideas for showing your mom just how amazing she is:

1. Cook her brunch

To you, your mom probably is the best cook in the world, but don’t let that put you off. You will be surprised by just how much your mom will appreciate the gesture of you cooking brunch for her. Showing your mom that you love her doesn’t have to include buying her anything, cute gestures like cooking for her, are perfect.

If you have your own family and home, then your mom most probably doesn’t live with you. However, you can always invite her over to your house or go and visit her to make her brunch.

2. Make her a scrapbook

I love doing anything creative, so giving my mom a handmade scrapbook is one of my absolute favorite ways to show her that I care.

Root through all your old photographs (and your mom’s too) and start filling up a scrapbook with small snippets of happy memories. Don’t just randomly stick photos into the scrapbook, organize them into chronological order and then stick them down. As well as adding old photos to the album, you could also include collages of old letters, stickers and anything else that holds any sentimental value.

It might not cost much to make, but making a scrapbook for your mom is the perfect way to show her how much you care.

3. Take her on a walk

Invite your mom to go for a lovely long walk alone with you. Perhaps you could pick a walking route that has happy memories or is somewhere she used to take you as a child?

While you walk, talk about your hopes and dreams for the future, your memories from your childhood and have a heart to heart about all the good times you have had. It might not be like giving your mom a gift, but going on a walk just the two of you is a lovely and intimate way to show her how much you care.

4. Go for afternoon tea

Surprise your mom with a delicious afternoon tea, complete with crustless sandwiches, mini cakes, scones, and lashings of jam and cream. Or, if afternoon tea isn’t your mom’s kind of thing, take her to her favorite cafe, instead.

Planning an afternoon at your mom’s favorite cafe, will allow the two of you to spend some quality time together. And all while bonding over a delicious piece of cake.

5. Send her flowers

Sending your mom a bunch of flowers is the perfect way to show her that you care about her, even if you can’t be with her. Think about your mom’s favorite flowers and then have a look online and choose the perfect bouquet to send to her.

To keep her guessing as to who the flowers are from, you could look at sending flowers anonymously and then following up with a card or phone call. Every mom loves receiving flowers, so why not brighten up her day by sending her a beautiful bouquet?

6. Bake her cookies

Everyone loves cookies, especially moms. Bake and ice your mom a dozen of her favorite cookies and pop them in a cute glass jar with a message attached to it.

The best cookies are traditional chocolate chip, banana and pecan and double caramel – you can find the recipes for all of these online. If you decide to ice your cookies, consider writing Love Heart style slogans on each one. This is a fun way to tell your mom just how much you love and care about her.

7. Pay for her to be pampered

The perfect mother-daughter day out is a pamper day. Book yourself and your mom in for a pamper or spa day at your local beauty parlour or spa.

Spending the day relaxing with your mom while the two of you are pampered from head to toe is a fantastic way to bond. As you relax and unwind, you can share all those funny memories you have from your childhood with her and tell her just how much she means to you.

If you don’t feel like a day of being pampered is enough, why not book the two of you on a spa weekend break? This will give you time to relax properly and spend a couple of days together, reminiscing about old times.

8. Order a beauty basket for her

If you don’t live close enough to go to a spa, why not order her a beauty basket instead?

Create a customized pamper basket full of all your mom’s favorite beauty products. Things like makeup, moisturizer, hair care products, exfoliator, and luxury bubble bath, should be included. To make the beauty basket extra special, don’t forget to add a cute gift card from you and, of course, a nice bottle of champagne.

It’s all too easy to forget to thank our moms for everything that they do for us. If you haven’t thanked your mom for all the help she’s given you over the years, make sure that you do, because your mom really is a special lady.

Supplies:
an envelope (we like to use used envelopes to upcycle them)
a glue stick
scissors (or a paper cutter)
printouts of your favorite characters, photos, etc. to decorate your bookmark

How to Make It:
1. Cut the corner off of an old envelope into a triangle.  (You can use a new envelope in a pinch.)20150511_1558232. Test the envelope triangle on the corner of the pages of your book to make sure it fits.
3. Put the triangle on your character print out, photo, etc. and trace the triangle.  You can trace just the triangle or if your image hangs over the triangle like in my example you can trace around the top of the image to create a bookmark that sticks up from the book.
20150511_1604264. Cut out the image.
20150511_1604565. Put glue on the envelope and glue the image down.
