Just for the record I want to start off by saying I was an 80’s-90’s kid, and for a girl I LOVED watching TMNT! With all of the crime fighting action, pizza eating and ninja moves that were taking place who didn’t watch? When I found out they were back in action I was more than geeked up about it. Totally fell in love all over again. Plus I am so thankfully to be able to share some of my childhood with my girls.

If you are looking for a great animated series, this is for you! Nothing like adding a new twist on an old classic. Each episode is self-contained, but I like how they build upon a larger story with some continuous characters and elements. The action is well paced but also allows time for character moments. Best of all, the show is genuinely funny for both me and my kids. Great combination!

Lighten Up! Inexpensive Ways to Ready Your Home For Summer at Anna’s Linens

When I am looking to make some changes to my house without breaking the bank, Anna’s Linens is one of my first stops.  Anna’s Linens has home decor and textile items for every room in my house and their prices are great.  It’s summertime now and so I wanted to add a little fun color to my house.  I saw lots of fun choices at Anna’s Linens.  A new bedspread perhaps?
51275This one certainly looks tropical and it’s only $49.99 for a king size complete set!
80093 80087Or maybe some bright beach towels for only $14.99 each?
910613I could change the look for my furniture with slipcovers starting at just $69.99.
48957Looking to cool off this summer?  Anna’s Linens has appliances such as ice cream makers and ice crushers, too.
48958Cocktails anyone?
892903Did you know that Anna’s Linens has wall decor, too?  Check out this beach-y 2 piece set.
I was asked to choose a summery item from Anna’s Linens to review and there were so many great choices that it was hard to decide. Then I thought about all the summer fun my family and I would be having outdoors.  I realized that I didn’t want to bring my regular ceramic dishes outside with us on our patio, to the beach, to the pool, or when we picnic.  That’s when I found this colorful plastic dinnerware set at Anna’s.
900447 It comes in purple, pink, turquoise, and frosted white.  I couldn’t decide which color to choose so I picked purple and pink to mix and match.  I love that I can mix and match the colors and everything still goes together well.
900448
Each piece in the set starts at only $1.99 so it is very affordable.   The set includes a plate, a small bowl, a large bowl for serving, a tumbler, and a pitcher.  I like that they are all unbreakable.  With 2 children who are rough on things, that is important to me.  They are top rack dishwasher safe so I can just throw them in the dishwasher for easy clean up.
plastic dinnerware As you can see in the picture above, the pieces stack well together to save space.  I am able to put all the small bowls inside the large bowl and then stack the plates on top.  They don’t take up much room in my cabinet this way.  And because the set is plastic and unbreakable, I can keep them in a cabinet that my girls can easily access.  They are so proud of themselves when they can make a snack for themselves, set the table themselves, etc. so having these plates, cups, and bowls easily accessible to them helps them be more independent.  I have a feeling that my girls are going to want to use this set instead of our regular set!

Tummy Stuffer and Seat Pet Product Reviews

If your kids are like mine, those catchy infomercial songs get their attention and stick in their heads.  They are always asking me if we can order one this or that.   I was so excited when I was offered to review two of the products they had been asking me about,  Tummy Stuffers and SeatPets.
tummy stuffers framed Tum, Tum, Tummy Stuffers…..I can hear the catchy jingle now.  Tummy Stuffers are adorable plush animals that can be filled with other things.  My girls like to fill their Tummy Stuffer with other stuffed animals, blankets, toys, and just about anything they can stuff in there.  They are great for keeping their rooms more organized.  When they go to a friend’s house for a sleepover they can stuff their pjs, undies, etc. inside their Tummy Stuffer and they’re ready to go.    Tummy Stuffers can also be used to hide special items that my girls want to keep safe.  They come in 6 fun styles- Monkey, Dog, Ladybug, Unicorn, Gator, and Kitty.  If you order from the Tummy Stuffers website right now they are giving away a mini Tummy Stuffer with each regular size Tummy Stuffer purchase.
seatpets framed
SeatPets, SeatPets, Buckle Up and Snuggle Up……again a catchy jingle.
SeatPets are plush stuffed animals that attach to your child’s seatbelt making their car ride more fun and comfortable.  My daughters sometimes push the seatbelt off of their shoulders because they don’t find them comfortable.  Of course that isn’t safe and as a mom it scares me.  With the SeatPets, they love wearing their seatbelts properly.  They are easy to install on any seatbelt because they have 2 velcro closures that wrap around the belt easily.  The head of the SeatPet makes a nice pillow so they’re heads don’t dangle and flop around if they fall asleep in the car.  They are soft and snuggly and come in 7 adorable styles-  Ladybug, Dog, Lion, Cat, Monkey, Cow, and Monster.  The SeatPets have 2 pockets on the front to hide trinkets and such and a side zippered pocket that is perfect to keep a water bottle or other large items.  The SeatPets also come with detachable backpack straps so you can take your SeatPet with you like a backpack when you are on the go.

SeatPets and Tummy Stuffers are both well made, soft, cuddly, fun toys that children and parents will love.  As a mom I love that they are not only fun but also useful, too.  They are both made by Jay@Play, creators of the award-winning Happy Nappers and CuddleUppets.

Tummy Stuffers were an instant hit at Toy Fair 2013 landing on several Top 10 Toys of Toy Fair lists, including ABC News and Time Magazine! Tummy Stuffers are the perfect way for children to stuff, store and organize their own belonging such as socks, belts, underwear, sweaters, hats and toys. Whatever your kids can dish out, you can stuff and organize in style!  SeatPets, the breakout star of last year’s Toy Fair, are plush pillows with a seat belt attachment that provide comfort and support to your child’s neck and head. They have compartments to stow snacks, drinks and toys, all while keeping your child happy and entertained.

Head over to order your own Tummy Stuffers and SeatPets.

Tickle Me Plants Product Review

tickle me seeds

My girls have been into all things plants and nature lately so when I saw TickleMe Plants I knew they would be interested in them.  What are TickleMe Plants?  TickleMe Plants are plants that actually MOVE when you touch and tickle them.
Here’s the science lesson for the day- Their scientific name is Mimosa Pudica and they have the capability to display thigmonasty (touch-induced movement).  They respond to being touched, shaken, heated or rapidly cooled.  How cool is that?!?!
tickleme framed
The TickleMe Plants come with their own cute little greenhouse, pots, and soil pellets.  First you need to get the seeds ready to plant.  Put the seeds in a mug and add boiling water.  Allow the seeds to sit in the water for 24 hours before you plant them.  Follow the directions for planting the seeds and make sure they get enough water and sunlight.  After a few days they will begin to sprout.  Once they start sprouting you can leave the greenhouse open as they grow larger.  The first leaves that you see are not the ones that will move when touched.  You need to wait a few weeks for the second set of leaves to appear.  Those are the ones that will move when tickled.
leavesAs your TickleMe Plants grow larger, you will need to transfer them into larger pots for them to be able to continue to grow to full size.  Under the right conditions your TickleMe Plants will grow pink, puffy flowers during the spring and summer.  Ours haven’t grown flowers yet but we’re keeping an eye out for them.  If your children like learning about new things, plants, nature, etc., they will love TickleMe Plants.  Watch below to see a TickleMe Plant in action.

I am always on the lookout for unique ideas to share with my readers so when I saw the creations from KidzCanDesign I knew I had to reach out to them to do a review.  KidzCanDesign takes pictures that children draw and turns them into sterling silver pendants and charms.  They can either be worn on a necklace or as a charm on a bracelet.  I wanted to have a pendant that had something from both of my daughters so I had them draw a picture together.
charm picture2 framedMy younger daughter drew herself and me on the right side of the picture and my older daughter drew herself on the left side.  They both signed their names on the top.  They had messed up on the message part the first time so I had to cut out their drawing and attach it to the new message.  You can see the lines on the bottom of their picture from my cut and paste job but KidzCanDesign was able to remove them for me.  Once their drawing was done I scanned it and was able to easily upload it to the KidzCanDesign website to place my order.  A few weeks later I received my charm and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  I have received so many compliments on it.  It is so amazing how their drawing was turned into a charm and all the details are still there.
charm framedThe picture doesn’t do it any justice.  It looks so beautiful and it is so unique.  No one else in the world has a charm like mine and it is special to me because my girls made it for me.
What I love about KidzCanDesign is that you can get creative.  You don’t just have to use children’s drawings.  You can have a charm made from your own art, an actual picture of your child, or even a cartoon, logo, etc.  I plan on ordering a charm with my blog logo on it next.
Here are some more examples:

Check out more examples on the KidzCanDesign Facebook page, too!  You are only limited by your imagination.  I am already planning on what I am going to order next.  I have a few ideas in mind for myself and I also plan on ordering more charms as gifts because I know my family will love them.

Monsters University In Theaters NowMy family and I got to attend a pre-screening of  Monsters University earlier this week and we all loved it.  It was the perfect movie for both children and adults to enjoy together without the fear of having to cover your children’s ears or explaining things to them after.  There were lots of funny parts that made us all laugh out loud.
We were all eagerly anticipating Monsters University as Monsters Inc. is one of our favorite family movies.  We love Mike and Sully (and Boo of course even though she wasn’t in this movie since Mike and Sully met her years after this movie takes place).  I even painted a portrait of Sully and Boo on canvas a few years ago.
37671_411828006769_1899986_nMonsters University takes place years before Monsters Inc., when Mike and Sully first meet in college at, well you guessed it, Monsters University.  I hadn’t really thought about what Mike and Sully might have been like back in college but I was surprised to see that they we not only NOT friends but they were actually enemies when they first met.  Mike had been dreaming about going to Monsters University and being a scarer since he went on a school field trip to Monsters Inc. when he was a little guy.  He was a small guy that got bounced around and not taken seriously but he was determined to become a scarer.  Mike on the other hand came from a long line of scarers and thought he could just use his family name to get ahead without actually trying.
These two enemies have to ban together with the help of a few other unlikely heroes to try to get back into scarer program.  It was great to see Mike and Sully’s friendship develop over time and watch them finally work together to achieve their goals.
Monsters University is a fun movie about determination, friendship, working together, and of course the fun of college life.  It is a great movie to take your whole family to as there is something for everyone.  Don’t miss Monsters University in theaters now!

Disney's FrozenWhen I was in LA last year for the opening of Frankenweenie, I saw the initial storyboards for the upcoming Disney movie, Frozen.  They looked amazing and I am so excited that it will be coming to theaters at the end of the year.
Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio behind “Tangled” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” presents “Frozen,” a stunning big-screen comedy adventure. Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey—teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven—to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel- I LOVE HER!), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

Childhood Favorite Inspired Italian Sandwich #goodcookcom #goodcookkitchenexprt #giveaway

Mrs Bernstein SandwichAs a Good Cook blogger I was asked to share a favorite sandwich recipe.  I wanted my recipe to be meaningful so I knew right away what it would be.  When I was in middle school the mother of one of my good friends used to make the most delicious Italian sandwiches.  She knew how much I loved them so every once in a while when she was making one for her daughter, she would make one for me, too.  Now all these years later (I won’t tell you how many years!), I still have such wonderful memories of Mrs. Bernstein’s kindness and her yummy sandwiches.  It’s been a long time since I had one of her sandwiches so I tried my best to recreate it from memory and added my own twists.  I hope this post makes her proud.  This is for you, Mrs. Bernstein!
Italian collageIngredients:
(3-4 slices each per sandwich- I prefer Boar’s Head)
Hard Salami
Genoa Salami
Slicing Pepperoni
Ham (I choose Parmesan Pesto Ham)
(2 slices each per sandwich)
Provolone Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese (not in the original recipe)
Italian Hoagie Roll
Shredded Lettuce
Black Olives
Italian Dressing (I choose Wishbone House Italian because it has Parmesan cheese in it which compliments this sandwich well)
Italian Seasonings (optional- not in the original recipe)

Directions:
Apply Italian Dressing liberally to both sides of the bread but do not drench it too much or the bread will be soggy.  Put mozzarella cheese on one side of the bread and provolone  cheese on the other.  Layer meat (I like to folding each slice in half for a nicer presentation).  Add shredded lettuce and black olives and top with more Italian Dressing.  Sprinkle Italian Seasonings on top if desired.  Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before eating to allow the dressing to soak into the bread plus it tastes better cold.
Enjoy!
Sandwich-Kit1TEXT-copy
As part of this Good Cook Ultimate Sandwich campaign, we each received an Ultimate Sandwich Kit that included a sandwich keeper (which is tall enough to fit a pretty big sandwich, a cheese slicer, a purple sandwich knife (my favorite color), flexible cutting boards, and a slice-precise holder to make cutting easier.  I love how the cutting boards are color coded to help against cross contamination plus they are a great size for small jobs like cutting vegetables and such for a sandwich.  The sandwich knife is great for not only slicing bread and other items but because it is wide, it does a great job spreading condiments.  Using the slice-precise with the sandwich knife keeps items still without getting your fingers in the way and the cheese slicer makes quick work of slicing some cheese to top your sandwich creation.
