dora
Nickelodeon’s most popular characters telling everyones favorite rhymes and tales? YES please! What more could you possibly as for in a children’s dvd? As a stay at home mom of two young children I am all too familiar with these wonderful characters like Bubble Guppies, Dora, Blue’s Clues and so many more.

photo 1

With all of the bright colors, music and endless entertainment both of my girls, ages 19 months and 9 had a great time enjoying this DVD. Perfect for the car for sure. We do a lot of driving and this DVD offers such a variety of programs that it is the only one we usually have to bring. With over 2 full hours of excitement that always kept their full attention. It’s very interactive so it’s always keeping them thinking as well.

The stories and rhymes that are displayed on this DVD really are timeless. Most of them I grew up with. It’s great to see such positive traditions being kept alive, with a new modern spin

Last week we started a garden.  I didn’t know if I would be able to actually grow anything because I don’t have a green thumb AT ALL, but things are growing!  The only things I am not sure about are the cherry plants.  They still look like sticks but everything else seems to at least be sprouting little leaves.  Please look at my babies below. 😉
The pictures on the left are from last week and the pictures on the right are of the same plant this week.

Hate cleaning with chemicals or thinking about making the switch over to green materials? Try this out! This what you will need:
1. 1 cup of Kosher Salt or Sea Salt
2. 1 Large Grapefruit

Cover the area that needs to be cleaned (shower/tub, sink, counters ect.) with the salt. Cut the grapefruit in half and scrub the salted surface with the fruit. Try and squeeze a little bit of the juice out as you go. Let the mixture sit for 3-5 minutes and rinse with warm water. You could also wipe with a wet rag. It will be clean and smell amazing!

We’ve Started a Garden!

Let me start by saying that I do not have a green thumb.  I never have.  I kill plants as soon as I get them.  I do well with pets and kids but I just can’t seem to keep plants alive.  My girls have been asking me for a while if we could start a garden and honestly I was afraid that I would just waste money and kill everything I touched.  Then I saw the blueberry plant offer for $10 and figured I’d give it a try.  While I was ordering the blueberry plants I went all in and also bought strawberry plants, cherry plants, raspberry plants, and banana plants.  When the plants arrived I went to Home Depot to get the soil and other supplies I would need.  As soon as I walked in the door there was a display of potted herbs for $2 each.  It’s like they put that rack right there to welcome me!  I ended up getting 2 types of basil, mint, rosemary, sage, cilantro, and parsley.

I had only planned on getting soil on this trip but my daughter asked if we could pick out some other vegetable and fruits.  We made our way to the fruit and vegetable section and picked out cucumber, cherry tomato, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon,  yellow pepper, and orange pepper plants.  I knew that the plants that I ordered from the blueberry plant offer would take a while to sprout actual fruit because there were all dormant sprouts so I grabbed a blueberry plant and a few strawberry plants that were already starting to sprout so my children could see the literal and figurative “fruits of our labor”.  It’s going to be fun to see which blueberry plant and strawberry plant grows better.  Of course that is only if I don’t kill everything first!
Really I don’t know what I was thinking getting everything at once and not just trying to grow a little something first.  But the ride has begin and I can’t get off now so follow me on my gardening journey.

We planted the herbs, strawberries, and tomato plant in 2 plastic containers and the blueberry plant in the front of our house since it was the biggest plant that we bought.

Above are the rest of the fruits and vegetables that we planted.  I know it doesn’t look like much but in the few days that it has taken me to get this posted I’ve started to see some growth.  Since these photos were taken we’ve added a plastic fence type border to try to deter animals and keep our plants protected.  The herbs and plants in the plastic planters are doing well.  So are the peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe, honey dew, and watermelon.  It’s too soon to tell how well the once dormant fruits are doing but I am hoping that they are taking root and starting to “wake up”.  Unfortunately the 2 banana plants disappeared.  One looked like it was starting to turn brown and die a few days ago and when I checked tonight both were gone.  I think they both either turned brown, dried up, and died or were washed away during one of the 2 heavy rains we just had.  So no bananas for us.   I’ll update soon so please check back.

If you have any gardening tips, please share them.  Right now I feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants.  Luckily my next door neighbor has 2 green thumbs and has given us great tips.

Do you have a garden?
What do you grow?
Have any gardening tips to share?

APRIL 14th UPDATE-  I checked everything out today and everything in the planter boxes look great.  The big blueberry plant looks ok.  A few leaves are a little brown but I think the plant is still hanging in there.  I hope!  The strawberries, cucumbers, and peppers in the ground seem to be doing well, too.  The blueberry and cherry plants look like they are starting to sprout a few leaves.  The cherry plants still look like bare sticks.  LOL  We had to move the cantaloupe, honey dew, and watermelon because I put them in the way of where the landscaping service will have to drive their lawnmower to get to the other side of my house and my backyard. DOH!

AppVentures iFirehouse and iDollhouse Playcases w/ Apps Review

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Children like to play with firehouses and dollhouses- they have for generations.  But AppVentures has brought playing with both to a whole new level.  AppVentures iFirehouse and iDollhouse are themed cases for either an iPad or an iPhone include a dollhouse or firehouse app to enhance the playing experience.

We were sent the AppVentures iDollhouse to review.  First I have to say I love that the AppVentures iDollhouse is a protective case so when my girls are playing with my iPad I don’t have to worry that they will drop and break it.  We’ve taken my iPad out with us while it was in the dollhouse case and received several compliments.  No one had ever seen a dollhouse iPad case before.  Both the physical dollhouse and the app compliment each other in a unique, fun way.  We’ve been keeping ours on even when we’re not using the app.

Once I put my iPad snugly inside the dollhouse and downloaded the FREE included app, my girls were ready to go.  The dollhouse also includes a little girl figure.  The figure has a QR code on it that when scanned by the iPad it brings the little girl inside the dollhouse to play with her.  Cute, isn’t she?

Once inside the virtual dollhouse there are 6 interactive rooms with lots of things to do.  Children can really use their imaginations to play in each room filled with colors, sounds, and fun.  Brush your teeth in the bathroom, watch tv, or even play on the see-saw outside.  You can add your own pictures to the frames on the wall and decorate the rooms how you like.  There are over 70 different interactive dollhouse activities that will entertain for hours.  And because this dollhouse is portable, you can take the fun along with you- in the car, in a restaurant, or anywhere else your little one needs to stay busy.
From The Sassy Little (9 year old) Blogger- I like that you can make pretend food in the kitchen for the characters and have them eat what you made.  You can also wash the dishes which is really fun.  (Insert note from Mommy- Why doesn’t she offer to wash our REAL dishes?)  You can also sit the characters down on the couch and have them read a book.  Another thing I like about it is that you have to water the plants to keep them alive.  My favorite thing is that you can have the characters go outside and play on the see-saw and go down the slide.  This is one of my favorite apps and the case makes it even more special.

The iDollhouse and the iFirehouse be hitting mass retail in the fall, but can be purchased here now: https://www.appventuresfun.com
Once you receive your iDollhouse or iFireshouse, simply download the app and you’re on your way (after purchase you get a rebate for the app so it’s FREE!).
