The Odd Life of Timothy Green DVD Review, Videos, and More Fun!

Disney’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” one of the year’s most uplifting and enchanting family films, springs up on Blu-rayTM Combo Pack, DVD, High Definition Digital and On-Demand platforms on December 4, 2012. It’s the perfect, must- own family-film for audiences of all ages to enjoy and snuggle up to this coming holiday season.

From Academy Award-nominated writer/director Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape), and starring Golden Globe® winner Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Oscar® winner Dianne Wiest and CJ Adams as Timothy Green, comes this highly imaginative story about a happily married couple whocan’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. Then one stormy night young Timothy shows up on their doorstep. Soon they and the small town in which they live learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts. The story is written by Ahmet Zappa(“American Gangster,” “Changeling”).

What We Think- The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a heartwarming film to share with your whole family.  In this story a couple who cannot conceive a child on their own, Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim (Joel Edgerton) Green, write down everything they would wish for in a child, including the name Timothy.  They put their wishes in a box and bury it in their yard.  That night strange things happen.  It rains only over their house. Then a dirt covered little boy with leaves sprouting from his legs shows appears and says his name is Timothy.

Cindy and Jim realize this gift from their garden is meant to be their child and they immediately take him in as their own.  Timothy helps the Greens learn to be parents while making a few mistakes along the way.  The movie shares many touching messages including how family is who you make it.  I loved watching Cindy and Jim learn how to balance being parents while letting their little boy grown on his own and experience life.  That is always a challenge of parenting.  This movie is a tear-jerker so be sure to have tissues on hand.

This movie is rated PG.  My girls are (almost) 7 and 9 years old both enjoyed it.  The ending is sad but they both handled it well and it lead to a nice family discussion in the car ride home.  Overall The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a touching movie for the whole family.

“The Odd Life of Timothy Green” Blu-ray Combo Pack provides viewers with the chance to delve deeper into this captivating movie experience through never-before-seen bonus features, including the documentary“Family Roots: Bringing ‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ to the Screen,” which looks at this unique family story and the creative team that brought it to life; “Glen Hansard: Behind ‘This Gift” – the Academy Award® winning songwriter tells how he and Marketa Irglova crafted the moving end-credits song; “This Gift” Music Video by Glen Hansard; Five all-new deleted scenes; and a director audio-commentary.

Disney/PIXAR’s Brave Now On DVD and Blu-ray! Check Out These Fun Games, too! #Brave

Disney•Pixar proudly announces the Blu-ray™ hi-def debut of “Brave,” the year’s #1 animated movie and Pixar Animation Studio’s 13th consecutive hit, on November 13, 2012.  A breathtaking adventure that has entertained audiences of all ages, the stunning Blu-ray release of “Brave” includes hours of all-new bonus material, extraordinary behind the scenes features, extended and deleted scenes, a mysterious and exciting, new short film, ‘The Legend of Mor’du,” and much more.

An original and thrilling journey set in the ancient and magical Highlands of Scotland, “Brave” follows the heroic journey of the headstrong, young adventurer Merida.  Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida confronts tradition and defies an age-old custom that inadvertently unleashes chaos, and forces her to discover the true meaning of bravery.  The 5-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition (1 Blu-ray 3D + 2 Blu-ray Discs + 1 DVD + 1 Digital Copy) has something for everyone – from the home entertainment enthusiast who demands the highest quality, state-of-the-art technology offerings, to the family who enjoys the interactive and engaging bonus features that only Blu-ray can provide – making this unique and beautiful film a “must add” to any home media collection.

What I Think-
Brave explores the age old struggle between daughters and their mothers.  Daughters usually think their mother’s are too strict and just don’t understand and that is exactly how Merida feels about her mother in Brave.  The queen wants her daughter to act properly, not use weapons, and follow the proper rules.  But Merida has other ideas.  She is a smart, tough, and headstrong young woman who wants to be independent.  She loves that her father taught her how to use a bow and arrow.  As a woman who was once a feisty, independent young woman I could totally relate to Merida’s struggles wanting to be her own person and make her own choices.  But as a mother of 2 daughters I can also see her mother’s point of view wanting to see her daughter make the right choices.  Merida wishes that her mom would “change”.  What daughter hasn’t wished her mother would “change” every now and then.  But in Merida’s case the spell she got from the witch changes her mother in a most unexpected way.  My favorite scene is when her mother is first learning how to be a bear and catch fish.   I love how in the end Merida learns to appreciate her mother and at the same time her mother learns to appreciate the young woman Merida has become.  They learn to see things from the other’s point of view which is a wonderful thing.   Watching Brave with my daughters reminded me to give them a little more room to make more of their own choices but I also think it helped them realize that I just want what’s best for them.  Brave is a wonderful family movie for any family, but I especially recommend it for mothers and daughters to watch together.

The exciting home entertainment debut of “Brave” will be available in multiple ways, containing exciting all-new bonus features that extend the breathtaking movie experience.
