Do you envy those people that can enjoy their garden all year round? Is it a magical mystery that they are still able to spend time out of doors and be comfortable, even when it’s winter time? Well, you might be in for a positive surprise, because it’s not so difficult to get your garden into a state where you can enjoy it all year round. Read on for some suggestions.

Late Bloomers

Many people expect that gardens to look barren and pretty ugly come winter time. It isn’t surprising we are just taught from an early age that flowers bloom in the spring, and fruit and veg comes in the autumn. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

Experienced gardens know that there are lots of plants that continue to flower during the winter months. You can try Sweet William or the Iceland Poppy to add some much-needed colour, when the weather turns darker and colder.

There are even some fruits and veggies that you can grow to be harvested during the colder weather. Just imagine serving your guest beetroots and artichokes that you have grown yourself in December! They will be marvel at your green fingers!

Shelter

Another essential item that you need if you are going to enjoy your garden all year round is some shelter. This will provide you with a warm, dry place to be, even if the weather is inhospitable.

If you live somewhere where you only have to deal with wind and rain then products like Living cafe blinds, can be a good option. They are both waterproof and will keep the off your veranda or patio, allowing you to still get outdoors when the weather is inclement.

If you live somewhere where you get the white stuff, come winter, and the weather is a bit more extreme. A heated conservatory or summer house might be a better option. In that way, you will have full protection for am all the elements and will be able to appreciate the views will still keeping warm.

Keeping Warm

Talking of keeping warm, having some sort of patio heater is a great way of using your garden space more in the colder weather. If it’s fine and dry but just a little chilly, it can be nice to head outside with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket and sit under the patio heater.

Alternatives to the traditional gas patio heater include a chimnea, which runs on wood. Or a built in fire pit. You can choose to fuel these will wood or gas. You can even use beautiful fire glass, so the flames seem to be coming out of these gorgeous crystals.

Keeping That Lawn Mowed

One of the biggest problems with sitting outside in the winter is the lawn. This is because you are not meant to mow the grass when it’s wet. Which it often is in winter. This is because it makes one hell of a mess and can blunt the lawn mower blades.

However you will need to do this sometime if you want to be spending time outdoors in the colder months. Just remember to sharpen the blades before you mow, and lower the mower, so it’s closer to the ground.
