Once upon a time, most families had the same origin story. Two young people would meet, fall in love, and get married—or their marriage would be arranged by their parents as a way of making mutually beneficial connections. Once the couple was married, they would start living together and have children.

These days, however, many couples are choosing to cohabit and have kids together before they tie the knot. If you are a parent and are now planning your wedding, read on for some suggestions on how to make this special day suitable for the whole family.

Consider the Menu

When it comes to planning your wedding reception meal, you may be feeling ready for a break from chicken nuggets, chips, fish fingers, or whatever your family’s go-to mid-week dinner is, and keen to plan a more extravagant, gourmet menu. If your children are picky eaters, however, you and your partner might want to consider some fun catering station options, as the last thing you will want to be doing on your wedding day is spend the whole meal trying to convince your kids to eat something. A pasta bar, a popcorn machine, and an ice cream sundae station, for example, will keep your kids both fed and entertained while the parents concentrate on making memories.

Consider the Transport

The most traditional wedding day transport arrangement involves the bride and her father traveling to the wedding location together in one car, and the groom and his best man making their own way separately. After the wedding, the bride and groom would travel together to their new house or their honeymoon in their getaway car, complete with its bunch of noisy cans and ‘just married’ sign on the back.

You and your partner, however, may want to travel to your wedding and reception locations together and may see no need to arrange alternative transport for your kids. Traveling to your wedding as a family unit doesn’t have to mean renouncing your dream of a classy, vintage wedding car, however. The 1961 Austin, for example, can quite easily accommodate four people even within a relatively small space, thanks to its characteristic sideways engine. This makes it perfect for two spouses-to-be, a child and the driver. Just make sure that the wedding dress skirt doesn’t take up the entire back seat!

Consider the Schedule

When planning your wedding day schedule, keep in mind that most kids have shorter attention spans than adults and tend to become tired more quickly, and need to go to bed much earlier. As well as making sure that you have plenty of coloring books, picture books and toys on hand to keep your little ones entertained throughout the day, consider hiring a children’s entertainer for an hour or so during the reception, perhaps just after the meal, when kids will have had to sit through first a ceremony and then a lengthy dinner and are bound to become restless. If your trusted babysitter can double-up as an entertainer, you’ve hit gold: once the entertainment slot is over, they can take your children home and put them to bed while you and your new spouse hit the dance floor.

You don’t need all of the glitz and glamor when it comes to popping the big question. A viral flash mob or getting down on one knee atop the Eiffel Tower might do it for some, but if your partner isn’t into all that, why bother? Not to mention, if you are strapped for cash, it is probably best to look for something more low-key anyway. There is no right or wrong way to get engaged as long as your sentiments are heartfelt. Here are a few budget-friendly tips to help you propose.

Choose a Lab Grown Diamond Ring

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. If your partner shares this sentiment, then you really should indulge them with a diamond-encrusted engagement ring. Diamonds are the ultimate luxury gemstone, and they can cost a small fortune. However, lab-grown diamonds can be purchased at a fraction of the price. Lab-grown diamonds are every bit as real as naturally occurring diamonds; the difference is that they are cultivated in laboratories using advanced technology. As well as being good value for money, they are conflict-free and more ethical than mined diamonds.

Fortunately, retailers like Regal exist. They employ experienced designers who create unique lab-grown jewelry, and they can provide you with a bespoke experience. Visit regalhattongarden.co.uk to book an appointment and to view their ready-to-wear collection.

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

When it comes to popping the question, sentimentality can go a long way. Take your partner back to where it first began. This could be the place where you fell in love or the restaurant where you had your first date. Taking a trip down memory lane and proposing in this way will not only evoke feelings of nostalgia, but it is also a great way to begin the next stage of your relationship together too.

Breathtaking Proposal

If you both enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, a magical way to propose is during a hike at a beautiful spot. Whether it’s in a favorite area or a new place entirely, choose a trail with a scenic route so that you can get down on one knee with a spectacular backdrop. Proposing in nature gives you the flexibility, and time, to pick the right moment.

Propose in the Comfort of Your Home

Proposing at home offers much more privacy than proposing outside, and it is a better choice if your partner doesn’t like to be in the limelight. When it comes to decorations, you can fill the entire house with flowers, or you can simply light some candles and scatter a few rose petals around. The point is, you can be as extravagant or as modest as you like when you propose at home.

Involve Your Fur-Baby

If your pet is a huge part of your life, you should try to involve your furry companion in the proposal. This could entail fido fetching the ring box or attaching the engagement ring to your cat’s collar. Involving your four-legged friend is the perfect proposal idea for people who absolutely adore their pet.

Everyone loves a good cleaning hack or homemade stain remover. That is why this post is giving you all the cleaning hacks you could dream of.

Kitchen

Kitchens are home to some of the worst cleaning jobs. So, use these tricks to make cleaning the kitchen that little bit easier.

How to Clean the Dishwasher

In case you didn’t know, the machine that cleans your dishes also needs cleaning itself. When your dishwasher starts to get grimy, glasses come out faded, and plates are still splattered with last night’s dinner.

Solution:combine white vinegar with baking soda for a sparkly finish.

Refresh Chopping Boards with Lemon or Oil

Rubbing half a lemon across your wooden chopping boards is a great way to leave the board clean and hygienic between uses.

If your board is looking a little run down, oil can restore the scratched surface to look as good as new.

Cream of Tartar vs. Steel Appliances

Everything from the oven to the toaster can regain its shine with a good scrub and some cream of tartar.

Bathroom

Making sure your bathroom is clean is important. A lot of activity goes on in the bathroom, and it’s the place we wash off all the dirt and grime from the day. And this grime can easily build up in all the nuts and crannies of the room.

Lemon for the Faucet

The other half of the lemon used on the chopping board can be used to clean the faucet and bring back the shine.

How to Clean the Bathtub

After showering and bubble baths, you can feel the invisible grime around the bathtub by simply wiping your hand along the sides.

To clean the bathtub, mix together soap, antibacterial oil, baking soda, and water and get scrubbing.

How to Clean a Showerhead

As for the shower, fill a freezer bag with vinegar and tie it over the showerhead. Leave it to do its thing, then wipe with a damp cloth.

Around the House

While the bathroom and kitchen are the main areas of concern, there are plenty of cleaning hacks for the rest of the house.

How to Clean Makeup Brushes

Using baby shampoo will restore your makeup brushes and clean away the grease. Hang them with pegs on a hanger to let them naturally dry without becoming smelly or moldy.

How to Restore Leather Furniture

Cracks and fading can make leather sofas, and armchairs look less than appealing. However, you can use a matching-colored shoe polish to bring it back to life.

How to Remove Lipstick Stains

Spray lipstick stains with hairspray, then wipe with a wet cloth to remove them from furniture or clothing.

Getting Hair Out of Carpets

Even the vacuum is no match for hair and fur sometimes. But a silicone sweeping brush will do just the trick.

So, it sounds like you have a lot of cleaning to do. Good luck, and let us know how many of these hacks worked for you!
