As winter approaches in the northern hemisphere, bringing with it colder temperatures and longer nights, you may find yourself thinking about how you can make your home more cosy. It’s often quite easy to do this in the living room or the bedroom, but we don’t necessarily spend as much time thinking about how to make the bathroom feel cosier. It can be hard to achieve due to the use of cold materials like tiles, but there are definitely some things you can do to make a difference. We might not spend as much time in the bathroom as in other rooms, but that’s no reason it shouldn’t be snug and warm!

Use bath mats

Bath mats are a quick and easy way to add some softness and warmth to the bathroom. They come in all styles – from sophisticated to adorable – and in a wide range of colours, so you’re sure to easily find one that suits your bathroom. As a bonus, they also reduce the risk of slipping on a wet floor when you step out of the bath or shower.

Have underfloor heating installed

To truly level up your bathroom floor, you might want to consider having underfloor heating installed by a company such as nonpareilsolutions.co.uk. This will distribute heat evenly throughout the room and works great in small spaces as you don’t need to have radiators or heaters. Your feet will most definitely thank you!

Use warm lighting

The type of lighting you have in a room makes a huge difference to how it feels. Clinical white light will make a bathroom feel colder, so instead opt for softer and warmer tones. This could be by switching your lightbulbs, but you could also use candles to add even more of a cosy vibe. Bonus points for picking scented ones!

Add plants

Another way to make your bathroom more welcoming is to add some greenery. Many houseplants thrive in the humid, moisture-rich environment that the bathroom provides, as long as you have enough natural light in the room to keep them happy. Ferns make a great choice and many species are easy to care for even if you don’t have a green thumb.

Decorate

In addition to plants, decorating in general can be an effective way to make your bathroom feel cosier. Splashes of bold colour – particularly warm hues such as reds or oranges – can make a big difference, as well as different textures and soft furnishings.

Enclose your bath or shower

To help you keep warm whilst in the bath or shower, enclosing the space with either a cubicle or a curtain is very effective. It keeps all the hot air in with you, leaving you to relax and enjoy washing more comfortably.

Buy super-fluffy towels

For staying warm once you’ve finished in the bath or shower, nothing beats a fluffy towel. For the biggest impact, buy large towels that completely cover your body, and pre-heat them on a towel rail ready for when you get out. Heavenly!
