Let me tell you about my secret weapon for saving money on Florida attractions, resorts, tours, and more. Make sure to read to the end to see how to get your FREE $15 credit. A few years ago a friend of mine introduced me to Florida Vacation Auction. It’s an auction site where you can bid on hotel stays, tours, attractions, and so much more all over Florida. The first auction I won was for our favorite hotel in Hutchinson Island, Vistana’s Beach Club. Each room in this hotel has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms including 1 with a hot tub, a huge living room, balcony, and full kitchen. It’s right on the beach so you can go right from your room to the beach and the pool. With the full kitchen we can cook our food each night as save money on going out to dinner if we choose. I won the auction for a 3 night 2 day stay at this amazing hotel for only $215!!! This hotel is normally $179+ PER NIGHT. It was such a savings! Just look at the view in the picture I took on our most recent vacation there last week:
Here are a few pics from our hotel room:

I WON 4 tickets to Museum of Discovery and Science for only $15!

Once I won my first auction I was hooked. I have since won tickets to local attractions such as Butterfly World, Miami Seaquarium, and Museum of Discovery and Science just to name a few! And when we travel to other places in Florida I always check Florida Vacation Auction to bid on attractions in the area that we’re going to. There are great hotels and attractions all over the state. Right now I see such fun things as a Ghost Tour in St. Augustine, Adventure Landing mini golf in Jacksonville Beach, Oceanside Hotel on Miami Beach, Jungle Queen Riverboat – BBQ Dinner and Show Cruise Ft. Lauderdale, Zoo Miami, Lion Country Safari, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Orlando, and so much more!

Just look at some of the great places you can bid on:

Disclosure- We sailed for free on the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure in exchange for this review. All opinions are 100% our own.20160723_145900

Bluefoot Pirate AdventuresThere are many hidden treasures in South Florida and we recently discovered one. Last weekend my family and I went on a Bluefoot Pirate Family Adventures children’s pirate cruise around the Intercoastal in Fort Lauderdale. When you first pull up to the dock the first thing you’ll notice is the big black and yellow ship flying a pirate flag. Upon arriving at the dock children can get their face painted and don pirate gear. The face painting is included in the price of the cruise and children can borrow a pirate themed vest to wear for the duration of the cruise. Want to get even more dressed for the part of pirate? For $7.50 you can purchase a Junior Pirate Pack which includes a plastic sword, eye patch, and pink or black bandana. They also have other goodies for sale.20160723_145508 My girls are almost 11 and 13 which, in my opinion is a little past the target age range for this adventure so they were too embarrassed to get their faces painted and dress up like pirates. TWEENS! I think the experience is perfect for pirates 10 and under. My girls might not have wanted to become pirates but that didn’t stop my husband form joining in the fun and getting his face painted.

Once we got on the ship the 1st Mate taught the little pirates the parts of the ship and some pirate speak as well as an enchanting tale of stole treasure. Meanwhile the adults got comfortable in the back of the ship while enjoying the cool breezes and the tales told by the captain of the history of many of the gorgeous houses that are passed along the voyage. It was very cloudy when we sailed so I didn’t need to put sunscreen on my girls but the kids do sit in the front of the ship where it is uncovered so make sure to bring sunscreen with you. If you get thirsty they do have water available for sale so bring a little cash with you.

My girls felt that they were too old to participate in all the pirate adventure but they both enjoyed cruising down the Intercoastal and looking at the beautiful houses and other boats along the way. I wish I had taken them on this adventure when they were younger. I know they would have really enjoyed it as much as all the young kids who were on our cruise did.

The expressions on the little faces when the “villain” Barnacle Bill sailed past us were priceless. They all got into character and were so excited to shoot the water cannons at Barnacle Bill to defeat him and get the treasure. My younger daughter stopped being a “too old tween” for a moment and had fun shooting the water cannon, too. 😉

The 1st Mate gives a thumbs up as Barnacle Bill surrenders to the little pirates.20160723_153619Once the special key is discovered, the treasure chest is opened to reveal the booty! Each child gets a baggie of booty (plastic coins and gems) to take home with them and a certificate to remember their adventure.

Even with my girls thinking they were too old, in the end they both admitted to having fun and we all enjoyed the cruise. As an added bonus when you go on the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure you can park by the Bahia Mar hotel for just $5 for the whole day. We took advantage of this and brought our beach gear with us. When we got off the pirate ship we were able to walk across the street and enjoy Ft. Lauderdale beach!

10 Things I Learned From the Wilderness Explorers Program at Disney’s Animal Kingdom #MonkeyKingdomEvent

20150416_091243 (1024x576)Wilderness Explorers is a FREE program at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Participants go around from station to station earning badges as they go.  We had the opportunity to learn about the program first hand on our press trip for the Monkey Kingdom movie that is now open in theaters.

20150420_203946 (723x1024)First take the Wilderness Explorer’s Pledge and fill out your membership card.20150420_204046 (670x1024)

Learn the Wilderness Explorer’s Call

20150420_204013 (576x1024)Start Exploring!

Here are some things we learned:20150416_090046 (2) (1024x704)

  • The Wilderness Explorers Program has been around for 15 years but has grown in size from 6 stations to 31 badges to earn.
    20150416_091630 (576x1024)
  • The target audience for the Wilderness Explorers Program is families with kids from 7-10 years old but families with older or younger children will also enjoy it.  We participated in the program without children and had a blast collecting badges so even if you don’t have children with you, grab a Wilderness Explorer’s Handbook and earn some badges.
    Wilderness Explorer Program
  • The beauty of the Wilderness Explorers Program is that it DOES NOT involve technology.  It uses cast members who present information and engage participants as they explore the park going from station to station.
    20150416_092620 (576x1024)
  • Participants are given a Wilderness Explorer Handbook at one of 9 Troop Leader Stations.  They are located all over the park so you don’t have to be in the front of the park to get started.
  • Exploring is a life long adventure.  Most participants average about 12 badges a day and come back multiple times with their books to earn all the badges.
  • The Wilderness Explorers Program connects families to nature and each other.  It shows them parts of the park they might not have seen and gets parents involved in the learning, too.
  • There are 3 types of cast members who give out badges- Trooper Leaders (interns who are trained in education or science), Merchandise Cast Members (who share all about various authentic merchandise that is available in the park), and Cultural Cast Members (who share about their native countries).20150416_093425 (576x1024)
  • Troop Leaders and other representatives don’t just give out badges, they engage the participants, ask them questions about what they have learned, and teach them new things, too.
    20150416_093601 (576x1024)
  • Find cast members with orange satchels or look for signs with W/E on it to find badges to earn.
  • When you earn all the badges you earn a special Senior Wilderness Explorer badge.

20150416_101056 (576x1024)The Wilderness Explorers Program at Disney’s Animal Kingdom encourages families and children to experience the park in a whole new way! As Wilderness Explorers, Guests participate in a variety of activities, such as hiking the trails, digging for fossils, studying gorilla behaviors, listening to animal sounds, learning how veterinarians care for animals, and interacting with Cultural Cast Members representing different countries in Africa and Asia. Completing each activity allows you to earn a sticker badge in their very own Wilderness Explorers handbook, which can be picked up from any of the nine Troop Leader locations around the park. Explorers can earn up to 31 badges, but are encouraged to earn these badges in multiple visits, since exploring is a lifelong adventure! Completing all 31 badges gives guests the honorary title of Senior Wilderness Explorer. The program’s goal is to connect guests with animals, conservation and culture while spending time together as a family, during and even after their visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Don’t forget to take your family to see Monkey Kingdom!!!
