I’m usually not one for buying frozen food. Though it’s quicker than making food from scratch, it’s usually filled with all kinds of fillers that are terrible for you. When I was given the opportunity to check out Michael Angelo’s Italian Frozen Foods I wasn’t terribly excited. Of course I wanted to check it out, but not being a frozen food lover I just had preconceived thoughts about what it would be like.

So I headed to my local Walmart to look for the Michael Angelo dishes in the frozen food section. Took me a minute to find them, but once I did I was pleasantly surprised to see the huge selection they offered. And the prices were comparative to other brands. I grabbed the lasagna to try first since it’s a family favorite. The first thing I always look for when trying a new food is the ingredients.

I’m pretty sure that picture says it all. Look! REAL food!! The very first ingredient is TOMATOES… Not some weird thing most people can’t even pronounce. No bueno. I’m thankful that even my kids can read the ingredients. So now my next thought was how does it taste? Without chemicals and preservatives it can’t taste very good frozen, right? Wrong!

photo 3Hands down one of the best lasagnas I have ever had. I would have never guessed frozen could be this good. It’s just like homemade!! I love everything about Michael Angelo’s food and who they are!!

The Meat Lasagna, now available in 46 or 80 ounces, is a Michael Angelo’s best-seller made with Pecorino Romano cheese, imported from Italy. Fresh beef, vine-ripened tomatoes and a secret blend of herbs are sautéed in imported olive oil and layered with al dente, 100 percent semolina lasagna noodles and premium cheeses to make the best pre-made lasagna dish available. The family-treasured Eggplant Parmesan, in 44 or 80 ounces, is made simply with fresh, lightly-breaded eggplant and just the right amount of tomato sauce, topped with Mozzarella and sprinkled with a blend of imported Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Romano cheeses. Michael Angelo’s Baked Ziti with Meatballs is made carefully with 100 percent semolina ziti pasta and Sara’s beef meatballs, made with only ingredients found in any every day kitchen. Combined with vine-ripened tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese and sprinkled with Romano cheese, this Italian classic is a crowd-pleasing combination.

Here is their story:

We are a family-owned company with a 30-year heritage of creating the highest quality Italian entrées in the freezer aisle. Our founders are Michael Angelo and his mother, Sara, and every box carries our family name. Like any good son, Michael believes that sharing Sara’s home-style Italian cooking is the best way to deliver quality and convenience to anyone who truly cares about what they eat. In our family, authentic, Italian taste is everything!
