It has often been said that the kitchen is the heart of the home. We all spend a lot of time in there each day, so you want to have it looking how you want it. I have just got a few ways that you can give your kitchen a stylish update. Maybe some of you are planning an update for the new year? You don’t need to change everything. A few small changes can make such a difference!

Tiles & Flooring

What kind of flooring does your kitchen have at the moment? It makes sense that it is a surface that is easy to sweep and clean, like laminate wood or real wood. Have you thought about tiled flooring? It can look so striking and would make the room look so different.

There are probably tiles elsewhere in the kitchen too. Around the sink perhaps, or used as a splashback. Tiles are easier to remove and change that you’d imagine, and cheaper than wallpapering a whole too. You could buy your cement tiles here and see the variety that is on offer. Changing a few of the tiles that are above the countertops add a whole new look to the room. Choose stylish options that compliment your existing ones and existing cabinets.

Space for an Island?

If you have a large kitchen, and there isn’t an island already, this is a great option to consider. You shouldn’t fill it with appliances, though. It looks best if it is open and free to use as an extra workspace. Again, if there is space, one or two tall stools nearby to make it a breakfast bar, will make it look completely different. One day I will have this in my home!

Paint Cabinets

It can be costly to replace a whole kitchen and the units. It costs a lot less to take the cabinet doors off and give them a repaint, though! This can be fun to do too. Do some research on colour wheels and what will compliment the countertops that you currently have. Then just unscrew the doors and go from there. The first step is to sand down if they are already a painted. They need to be cleaned thoroughly too using something like sugar soap. Then go ahead with your painting. It may be more labour intensive for you, but it will save a lot of money.

Lighting

A nice, bright kitchen is a must, I think. What lights do you currently have in there? I think spotlights can look great if you have the budget set to install those. But for cheaper options, think about getting a new light. Strip lights add more light to a room than just one single bulb. Just something to think about.

Another point on lighting is the window. Do you have blinds or curtains on them at the moment? Blinds do look much better on a kitchen, so this could be an inexpensive change. If you already have them, make sure they’re always open. It will add so much more light if you get the natural sunshine through!

I hope this has given you some inspiration to make a few changes to your kitchen. Think realistically about what you can afford and just go from there. Have fun!
