Leather wallets can be a great accessory to have, but only when you pick the one you need very carefully. The wallet you choose needs to be functional as well as nice to look at, so you need to consider a few things in detail before making your decision. Read on to learn more:

The Faux Leather Wallet

The faux leather wallet can look quite nice for a while, but as it’s fake, it can distort and look worn in a short space of time. Wallets are supposed to be used every day, so a high quality wallet is what you need to take with you on a daily basis. If you plan on getting a faux leather wallet, I wouldn’t recommend spending too much money on it, as it won’t last you a very long time. Faux leather wallets are only temporary, so don’t pay extortionate prices for them.

The Leather Wallet

A genuine leather wallet can look very stylish; like these Shinola leather wallets for example. They will last the test of time providing you look after them properly. There are different kinds of leather, so do your research so you know that the leather you’ve bought is of a high quality. To take care of the leather, make sure you treat it with leather conditioner regularly. You should also avoid getting it wet and overfilling it.

Durability

Any wallet you buy should be durable, so the sturdier it is, the better. Any material other than leather won’t be as sturdy, so genuine leather is always the best choice if you don’t want to have to buy a new wallet every few months. Although you need to take care of your wallet, a good leather wallet will be able to take a bashing and not look worn or old.

Practicality

It’s not good having a wallet that just looks good; you need a practical wallet that will hold everything you like to take with you. Cards, photographs, notes, change – a good wallet will be able to hold it all. Some wallets are designed specifically for notes and cards only, but it’s always good to have a space for change available, so it isn’t clanking around in your pocket.

Bi-fold, Tri-fold, and Checkbook

Depending on what you need, you can get a bi-fold, tri-fold, or even a checkbook style wallet. This totally depends on the style you like and what you need your wallet to achieve. In some cases a checkbook wallet will be too large to fit in your back pocket, so it’s useful to have a hold-all in this case to put your wallet and other belongings in.

You might not think that choosing your next wallet is such a big decision, but you’ll have to buy a new one every month if you aren’t careful. Put a little thought in and you’ll love your decision as it serves you well for years. Have you used this guide to help you choose your next wallet? Leave a comment!
