Disclosure- I was invited by Disney to attend this all expense paid press trip but all opinions are 100% my own.

A few months ago while I was in Los Angeles for the Captain America Event I had the opportunity to screen Disney’s 100th DCOM movie, Adventures in Babysitting which is an updated version of the 80’s movie with the same title.  This version gives a wink and a nod to the 80’s version with a few similarities but it has a different story and instead of one babysitter this version has 2 played by Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) and Sofia Carson (Descendants). I absolutely loved this newer version. I watched the older version to get ready for my trip because I didn’t really remember much from it. I guess I’m just a prude mom now because I didn’t remember things in the original version that made me cringe as a parent (a “dirty” magazine for instance) but I am happy to say that this newer version is perfect for all audiences and a great movie for families to watch and enjoy together.

About Adventures in Babysitting

“Adventures in Babysitting,” unfolds when Jenny Parker (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola Perez (Sofia Carson), two teen girls with distinctly different personalities, each  interview for a coveted photography internship and accidentally swap phones.  When the Anderson family calls Jenny’s phone looking for a last-minute babysitter, audacious Lola, in need of some extra cash, picks up and nominates herself.  Meanwhile, dependable Jenny is already set to babysit the Cooper family for the evening. Unfortunately, Lola’s first attempt at babysitting takes an unforeseen turn when one of the Anderson kids sneaks out to go to a concert. Jenny, determined to protect her reputation, and Lola with the remaining kids in tow, head out and have the adventure of a lifetime during one magical night in the big city.

The Disney Channel Original Movie also stars Nikki Hahn as introverted teen Emily Cooper, Mallory James Mahoney as young fashionista Katy Cooper, Max Gecowets as the rebellious Trey Anderson, Jet Jurgensmeyer as chef wunderkind Bobby Anderson, Madison Horcher as roller derby fanatic Alison “AJ” Anderson and Kevin Quinn (Disney Channel’s “BUNK’D”) as Jenny’s crush Zac Chase.

“Adventures in Babysitting” is directed by John Schultz (“Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer,” “Like Mike”) and written by Tiffany Paulsen (“Nancy Drew”). The movie is executive-produced by Michelle Manning (“Teen Beach 2,” “The Breakfast Club”) and Chuck Minsky is the director of photography (“The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” “Mother’s Day”).

In a heartfelt story that celebrates individuality, friendship and self-empowerment, the live-action adventure comedy made for kids, tweens and families, pays homage to the 1980s classic with familiar references and iconic scenes.

Hollywood Records recording artists Carpenter and Carson perform the movie’s end credit song “Wild Side” produced by Jens Koerkemeier, Emanuel Kiriakou and Andrew Goldstein.

The “Adventures in Babysitting” premiere telecast is sponsored by Post Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. It will be followed by the premiere of Disney Channel’s new comedy series “Bizaardvark.”

Adventures in Babysitting will air on The Disney Channel tomorrow, June 24th at 8 pm EDT so get your family together, pop some popcorn, and snuggle in for a movie that you can all enjoy together. Some of the hijinks in the movie remind me a little of movies like Home Alone with two “bad guys” (Ken Lawson and Michael P. Northey) chasing the babysitters and the children they are babysitting for.

A gala event, roller derby girls, green hair, a tattoo, a dog, a concert, and even a fire. This movie is packed with mishaps and fun!

Their night goes from bad to worse but along the way the two totally different babysitters find out they can learn from each other. My favorite scene is the one where they go into a club and have to rap so keep an eye out for that part.

We’re not quitters, we’re the babysitters!

After we screened the movie we had the chance to interview Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson and they were both absolutely adorable. Both girls were poised, beautiful, and it was so much fun to see them interact with each other.

One Big Family-
You could totally tell how much they liked each other and how close they had become as friends on the set of the movie.

Sofia-“We all became a family. We had little parties every weekend- singing, dancing, improv games. We had the greatest time.”

It was obvious that the girls not only enjoyed working with each other but also with the 5 children that played the children they were babysitting in the movie.

Sabrina- “The five kids are some of the most talented we’ve ever met. They were so professional and such a joy to work with. I wish I could babysit them.”

What’s So Funny?
We asked the girls the funniest thing about each other and their response was hysterical:

Sabrina: That she’s not that funny.”

Sofia: That’s what I was gonna say! I’m not funny.”

Sabrina: “No, but that’s what makes her funny is that she knows that she’s not funny. But with a script, she’s so funny. If she had writers for her all the time, she’d be so funny.”

Sofia: I’d be hysterical! Good thing I’m an actress. And Sabrina’s probably the funniest person you will ever meet. She doesn’t need a script.”

Stunts in the movie-
There are a lot of stunts in the movie and while Sofia was old enough to do her own stunts but Sabrina is a minor so she was only able to pretend to drive. Sofia told us how she even got hurt doing one of the stunts when we mentioned how it seemed that she was limping a bit.

Sabrina– “I don’t drive. We have a lot of bloopers of me in the car because I can’t drive. There definitely will be bloopers on the DVD.”

Sofia- “Can I mention it was the lamest stunt of the whole movie that I hurt myself. We ran in the rain the whole movie. I was in a factory hanging 20 feet in the air. I did all of that. But when they asked me to run and walk, I fell. It is the first scene in the movie.  Lola is running late. It was actually the last week of shooting. They had just wet the pavement to make it look nice on camera and I wasn’t wearing shoes with rubber soles. I had to run down the hill pretty quickly, jump over lawn [bushes] and then the second I hit the pavement, I just wiped out. All you hear was a thump.  And you just see me disappear behind the car. But now I get to say I fell doing a stunt.”

Personal babysitting adventure stories-
Sofia:
“I babysat my little cousins, but they were such good kids. They’re angels. I have no funny stories! We got ice cream. I got chocolate. They got strawberry and they went to sleep. It was very easy. Nothing like what we experienced in this movie…there were no ferrets involved whatsoever.”

Sabrina: I’ve never babysat, but once I locked a babysitter out of the house because I didn’t really like her. Well, it was me and my two older sisters. She wasn’t a great babysitter, though. She brought over her boyfriend. We were like, we don’t know this person. He was really, really nice, but still.”

Are you a Jenny or a Lola?
Both girls are more in between a Jenny and a Lola.

Sofia- “I would say I’m kind of an in between.  Lola is this really cool free spirited young girl who isn’t afraid to just live life, despite the consequences of sometimes making irresponsible decisions.  But she’s really passionate about her art.  And a very strong girl.  And I’m also very passionate about… I think we both are, about what we do about our music and acting.  And we’re both also… I’m just gonna answer this for both of us…independent girls.  Both we have a really strong, incredible moms.  And they taught us to be, you know, strong girls, or represent girl power.  And Lola and Jenny are both like that.  ‘Cause Jenny would know she’s a little bit more inside the box.  She’s still a strong, powerful young girl. We both save the day together.”

Sabrina-   “What she said.”

After the interview there was a little time to take some pictures with these lovely girls. I loved that Sabrina Carpenter is short like me. 😉
