Having a practical bathroom is a must for families and couples. Even single people could use a more practical bathroom. Although it’s important that the bathroom looks nice, you want to be able to complete your tasks for the day with ease. You should be able to freshen up and get ready for the day ahead easily. Here’s what you need to know about creating a practical bathroom:

Choose a Theme You Love

When you have a theme you love in the bathroom, you will automatically like spending time in there. Your getting ready routine, bathing/showering, and nightly routine will all become much more pleasant. For some, this might be the nautical theme. Others might prefer a more spa-like oriental theme. Whatever will help you to design the best bathroom for you! Having a theme can make it so much easier to pick accessories and colors for your bathroom, so it’s a good idea!

Use a Mix of Lighting

The bathroom always calls for a mix of lighting, so make sure you have multiple sources in there. You’ll want task lighting for when you’re doing your hair and things, but you’ll also want dimmer switches for when you’re relaxing in the bath. Spotlights are always a good call in the bathroom, as they are not fussy, go with any theme and they don’t take up much space. It isn’t like the kitchen, where you must have task lighting but dimmers just wouldn’t make sense.

Under Sink Storage/Hidden Storage

Under sink storage is the best place to keep things that you don’t want on display. Having too much on display in the bathroom can make the place look messy and unorganised. Keep a few things out if you think they look good, but get rid of as much clutter as you can. Under sink storage will allow you to easily grab whatever it is you need without messing the place up. There are other hidden options too. You can even get storage that you can find under the bath! Make the most of your space with hidden storage and your bathroom will not only look better, but stay tidier.

Let in as Much Natural Light as You Can

Natural light in the bathroom is essential for a number of reasons. For one, it opens the space up and makes a small room look so much bigger. For another, it is helpful when you do your makeup in the bathroom, or anything where natural light will make the best results. Doing makeup in artificial light is a big no-no, so you should avoid that at all costs!

Shower, Bath, or Both?

Now you need to decide which is more practical for you and your family. A shower, bath, or both? It all depends on how large your bathroom is and what you think you’ll all benefit from most. If you love taking baths, don’t opt for a shower just because you hope it will save space. You need your bathroom to be a bit of a retreat for you after a long day! You can get walk in showers to save space, small baths, jacuzzi style baths, and bath/shower combos. You can even transform the whole bathroom into a wet room if that’s more your style. By looking at the shower cubicles at Bella Bathrooms, you can get an idea of what will work best for you.

Floating Vanity Space

A floating vanity space will make it appear like you have more room in your bathroom, as it doesn’t reach the floor. This is a really popular and smart way to make it look like you have more space! How large the vanity area is will all depend on how many people you live with and your needs. Make sure you don’t skimp on size just to save a bit of money, or else you might regret it!

Corner Sink

A corner sink is a cool way to save space and make the a compact bathroom look larger. Not only that, if you curve it off, it can stop any accidents from happening. You can even have storage beneath it to save even more space. Of course this will depend on the space you have in your bathroom and the look you’re going for, but it can really work.

Use a Large Pattern

Using a large pattern in the bathroom might seem counterproductive, but it is actually a very clever idea. Large scale patterns will trick the eye into believing that you have way more space than you really have. Use it on your towels, bath curtains, a chair, and anywhere else you can to trick your guest’s eyes into thinking you have more space.

Floating Shelves

Floating shelving is perfect for saving space, and it can be used for a number of different things. You can place towels on here to make them easier to grab, or you can simply display a themed collection to add to the theme of your bathroom. You have plenty of options, but it’s a great way to make the most of your vertical space.

Expand a Mirror

A large mirror in the bathroom is a great idea for families. There are probably going to be times when you’re all in the bathroom together, fighting over space/the mirror. You can eliminate these arguments completely by investing in a big mirror. Of course, it also helps to have a large vanity space, but this isn’t always possible. If you can cover one wall with the mirror, then do so. You can never have enough mirror space when you’re trying to get ready while your husband brushes his teeth! It’ll also add size to the room visually.
