Who doesn’t want to be as comfortable as possible in their own home? If you find that you are somehow not managing to achieve this particular aim, it can be for a number of reasons, and you might need to approach it from a few angles at once in order to get it right. As it happens, there are a few especially common areas to look at in this respect, and that is what we are going to do in today’s post. With that in mind, take a look at the following ideas if you want to make your home a much more comfortable and cosy place to live in no time at all.

A Comfortable Bed

For most people, the bed is the most important place of all for gaining cosiness in the home. As long as you know you have a comfortable bed to go to at night, you can be sure of feeling happier about the home in general, and when you’re sleeping in particular. There are a lot of things you can do to improve your bed’s comfort levels. For a start, consider getting Amish quilts or something similar to add some extra plumpness – but you should also think about the actual mattress and whether or not it is as good as it could be. You can also improve its comfortability by making sure that the whole room is comfortable, something which a lot of people forget about. Do all of these, and you will have a much cosier time in your home at night.

Communal Areas

Just as important as the beds are the communal areas, even if you actually live alone. The living room and so on are especially vital if you want your home to be cosy, as they are your best opportunity to introduce as many comfortable elements into her home as you like. The basics – choosing a sofa you can enjoy comfortable, utilizing cushions and so on – are an important part of this, but so too is ensuring that you are including elements which you find personally comfortable for you. You need to make the space yours if you want to be comfortable in it, and this is something that is commonly overlooked. Yet it is hugely important if you want to be comfortable.

Warmth & Light

It’s not just about the objects in the rooms – you also need to pay attention to the warmth and light levels as well. If you get this just right, it can really affect your ability to be comfortable in the home, and make your home much cosier much faster too. The truly cosy home is the one which is warm and has the right amount of light as well, so make sure you do not overlook these essential qualities and elements if you want to be as cosy as possible in the home. Get this right, and you will find it5 makes a huge difference in the long run. Remember this if you are struggling to be zoy in your home.

How to Keep Your Dog More Active

Keeping your dog active is very important for their health. It also serves multiple purposes because dogs require stimulation to keep them mentally challenged and enjoying life. Playing games with them also helps make you feel young again because it may have been a few years since you played simple games with anyone other than your kids if you have them.

Here are several ways to play around with your dog to keep them busy.

Wear Them Out with Tug O ’War

Playing tug of war with your dog will give them a chance to get a workout by doing battle with their owner in a non-aggressive manner. It may at first appear with the bearing of teeth that they’re being aggressive, but actually they’re just focused on gripping the rope toy when pitted against you.

Be aware of your surroundings because sometimes they wrestle the toy free and it can go swinging around (or flying across the air). So don’t play tug o’ war in the living room with your big screen TV nearby unless you’re prepared to replace it real soon! Dogs who get to play this game improve their confidence and are better mannered.  Learn some other great games that teach them better manners by checking out mashoid.co.

Teaching Fido to Fetch & Drop into the Toy Bin

Dogs love to play fetch and sometimes they can be taught to drop the toy on demand. What you want to do is extend the usefulness of this activity by teaching them to return their toys to their toy bin when they’re finished with them.

Create a new command to teach them to collect their toy and drop it into their toy bin. Keeping their toys all in the same place makes it easier for them to find them and for you to put a lid on the box when it’s not playtime yet. They can get a sense of new found confidence when they manage to return toys to their rightful place and get a small treat for doing so.

“Which Hand is the Treat In?” Game

Playing the “Which Hand is the Treat In?” game is a fun one for inquisitive dogs because they love being teased and trying to find out what is going on. It helps to develop their sense of smell in isolating where things are. You can rub the treat all over one hand and place it inside a closed fist of your other hand to completely confuse them. This will teach your dog not to give up when failing to find the treat the first time out. This way they also learn that smells don’t always lead directly to the target. Developing your dog’s sense of smell is important for advance warning about intruders in the home, so it’s a useful game as well as enjoyable too.

Playing games with your dog to keep them more stimulated both mentally and physically is necessary for their development. Staying healthy for longer is helped when they are challenged rather than left to sit around inactive. Only small lap dogs that are used to being indoors with elderly people should expect to be less active.

7 Foods that Get a Bad Rap but are Actually Healthy

In our constant quest for good health, we often avoid certain foods because they are known to contribute to weight gain, high blood sugar, and other undesirable health effects. However, some of the “facts” that we may believe could already be outdated information or even just myths that just won’t die.

Here are just a few of such foods that get a bad rap but are actually quite good for you and don’t have to eliminate completely from your diet.

Nuts (in General)

Nuts like almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, and cashews are often misunderstood because most of them are high in calories and fat. However, nuts are primarily composed of unsaturated fats which are healthier for the heart. A study also found that people who include nuts in their diet are thinner and lose about 1.4 pounds more when trying to lose weight. Most varieties also contain plant sterols, which help lower cholesterol levels in the body. Add this to the fact that most nuts contain a host of vitamins and minerals, like B vitamins (including folic acid), vitamin E, calcium, iron, manganese, selenium, and zinc, and you have a rather healthy snack. Nuts are also chock-full of dietary fiber and phytochemicals.

If you are not fond of eating almonds and its cousins on their own, then including high-quality nut milks might just be the key to include more nuts in your diet and enjoy some of their health benefits.

Coffee

Coffee contains flavonoids, plant chemicals that contribute to many plants and vegetables’ vivid coloring. However, apart from giving coffee beans their distinct, rich hue, flavonoids are also known to protect cells from the effects of aging and also improve heart health. Studies have also shown that coffee may help reduce the risk of some diseases like diabetes, and even lower the risk of mortality. Just don’t go beyond four cups (or five, depending on your physique) a day, and go easy on the cream and sugar. If you want, you can also give the above-mentioned nut milks a try to give your cup of joe a new flavor.

Chocolate

Before you consume a whole bar of chocolate on your own, you should remember that the health benefits of chocolates depend on the type you eat. You want to go for dark chocolates with cacao levels of 60 or higher as these contain more antioxidants and less added sugars. Cacao has also been proven to decrease LDL or “bad” cholesterol, decrease blood pressure, and improve the health of blood vessels. Take note that chocolates, even dark varieties, are still high in calories. Limit your daily intake to 1 to 3 ounces unless you want to gain weight that much more quickly.

Butter

Butter is known be the great flavor enhancer that can turn a bland meal into a culinary piece de resistance. However, it also has the unfortunate reputation of being bad for one’s health because it’s filled with fats. To clear things up, butter is indeed full of fats but they are mostly of the healthy kind that help protect the heart and digestive systems. What’s more butter made from the milk of grass-fed cows also contain vitamin K2, which helps the body metabolize calcium, leading to better bone health. As long as you consume it with moderation, butter won’t do your body any harm.

Potatoes

It’s not actually the potatoes that are making you gain weight, it’s the form that you eat them in. Stick to baked, roasted, or grilled preparations instead of deep-fried. A hundred grams of potatoes contains only 77 calories. These humble tubers are also high in dietary fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. Potatoes are also a good source of resistant starch, an indigestible carbohydrate, which helps regulate blood glucose and also makes you feel full, thereby helping you lose weight as well.

Frozen Vegetables

Some people believe that frozen vegetables contain fewer nutrients than fresh ones, but numerous studies have proven otherwise. In fact, the freezing process actually locks in the nutrients, so frozen veggies may actually contain more healthful substances than fresh produce. This is because the latter tend to lose their nutrients the longer they are not eaten. Frozen vegetables also come with added convenience, since most of them are already pre-cut, making it easier to add healthy ingredients to your daily meals.

Eggs

Whether or not eggs are good for the body has always been the subject of debate, so let us end it once and for all: eggs are good for you. They are high in protein, vitamin D, phosphorus, and riboflavin, among other essential nutrients. Studies also show that people who eat high-protein breakfasts instead of high-carbohydrate ones have better appetite control over the course of a whole day. Similar to potatoes, eggs are often accused of being unhealthy because of preparation (e.g., fried versus boiled or poached) as well as the food they are often served with, like bacon or sausages.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is as much about keeping yourself armed with the latest information, as following a diet plan and an exercise regimen. When you’re well-informed, you can always make the right decisions for your health.

Practical Measures For That House On The Hill

Life is about hard work. It’s relentless, and it can feel like you’re purposefully putting the blinders on to get toward your goals. There’s no shame in admitting this to yourself as it’s something that is actually quite normal. But what is it all for is the question many people begin to ask as they get older. All those hours, days, months, years and decades of working hard and providing for yourself and your family; what’s it for? In reality, it’s the simple things that make a happy life. It could be great health for your loved ones, a nice sporty car and the ability to not worry about your finances. One of the biggest desires the majority of people have is their humble abode be grand and marvellous. That big house on the hill is what dreams are made out of. But how could you shift your life into a pathway that gets your nearer or implements these aspirations?

Pin down the location style

The location of your dream home is just as important as the actual house itself. What an absolute shame it would be to move into what you perceive to be as a magnificent home, only to find you’re in danger of flooding or perhaps forest fires. If you are married or with a long-term partner, both of you need to sit down and discuss the location. You could aim for a snowy environment whereby you’re a little isolated or in a small village in a part of the country that experiences long winters. You could aim for the opposite by only giving homes in sunbathed areas the time of day. Sometimes you’ll view homes that are practically perfect and just what you’re looking for, but the elements might keep you and your wallet on your toes. Get a good understanding of the local weather, natural disaster potential, wildlife and advances in logistics such as broadband etc.

The often overlooked challenge

Moving into your dream home isn’t like any other move. There’s a different mentality in the air that changes your behavior. Moving into an interim home has its own stressful scenarios, but the physical move has a less serious undertone. There are moving companies that can help you with the organization from top to bottom, big and small. A non-permanent move sometimes means you won’t bother to take the larger kitchen appliances or large furniture with you. Moving from apartments, shared houses and the like have their own moods because you’re not making such a big move. Your dream home, however, you’re making serious moves such as transporting heavy objects such as refrigerators, washing machines, and sometimes even air conditioning units. Don’t overlook the challenge in front of you when making a truly permanent move into a dream home.

There aren’t many things in life that have such a high prestige in many people’s lives. But the goal of chasing your dream home, that house on the hill, is a noble cause. Working hard all your life to then finally buy a home that you’ve always wanted is not out of reach. You just have to make the first few steps of planning foolproof. Look beyond or in fact around the home to survey the landscape and location. Be prepared to rip your current living space apart in order to move heavier appliances with you.

Ralph Breaks the Internet Remember that time that I voiced one of the characters from Wreck-It Ralph? Or when I got to go behind the scenes in the creation of Wreck-It Ralph? Needless to say, Wreck-It Ralph is one of my favorite movies so I am beyond excited that there is a sequel coming out in November. Check out this sneak peek:

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a website entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.” Directed by Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Phil Johnston (co-writer “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Cedar Rapids,” co-writer “Zootopia,”), and produced by Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Bolt”), “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-Ralph 2” hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018.

Make Your Bed the Coziest Place on Earth

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

Your bed is supposed to be your sanctuary and the place where you can go to relax and retreat from the rest of the world. It should also be there to help you get the vital restorative sleep that you need every night for both your physical and mental wellbeing. If it is not doing these things, it may be time to make one or two adjustments. Check out these tips to give you a helping hand in this area and turn your bed into the coziest place on Earth.

pexels-photo-279746Photo Credit

Invest in a Mattress Topper

Perhaps you have recently invested in a new mattress recently (in which case you should check out how long to air out new mattress) or you have had one for a while and you are looking for ways to make it that little bit more comfortable. One way of doing this is by getting a mattress topper which could be made of memory foam, feathers, or egg crate foam. This adds some extra support to your body and increases your comfort levels.

Choose Your Pillow Carefully

You will have undoubtedly noticed that pillows come in varying degrees of fluffiness and firmness. So, here is a general rule of thumb to follow if you are wondering what is the right kind of pillow for you. If you generally sleep on your side, you should choose a firm pillow; if you prefer to sleep on your back, a medium pillow is right for you; and if you like sleeping on your stomach, opt for a soft pillow.

Find a Good Comforter

A down comforter is especially nice during the long winter months, and the best kind feel both warm and breathable. And as an additional plus point, it can also help to make your bed look that little bit more stylish and inviting.

Add Some Extras

pexels-photo-763148Photo Credit

There are plenty of extras which you can add onto your bed depending on your personal preferences. To start off with, add some blankets and throws. You will probably want more during the winter months but you can easily start to remove them one by one as the weather gets warmer. Next, go for a few throw pillows. You may want to remove these when you are actually trying to drift off at night, but they are great for when you are lying in bed reading a book or watching a movie. On this note, a headboard can also be very good for these particular occasions. Use task lighting to create a reading nook for yourself.

Go for a Fluffy Rug

There is nothing worse than when that first step out of bed is onto a freezing cold wooden floor. So, try getting a fluffy rug to make your walk to the bathroom that little bit more pleasant.

Try using a combination of these different techniques to make your bed so cozy that you will never want to leave!

Better Quality Sleep Is Guaranteed If You Do These Things

This post may contain affiliate links.
Thank you for visiting Cori's Cozy Corner! Please make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to our E-mails!

We all need high quality sleep. Most people make the mistake of thinking that just because they’ve had 8 hours, they’ve had a good sleep. This is not true! If the 8 hours of sleep you have gotten is not high quality, you’re still going to feel like you’ve only had a few. The aim should be to get as much sleep as your body needs (all down to the individual), but ensure that it’s quality sleep at the same time. It’s not actually as difficult as you might think if you do the following things:

Don’t Consume Caffeine Too Late In The Day

Having a little caffeine early in the morning is fine, but consume caffeine too late in the day and you’ll pay the price when it comes to sleep. You might end up struggling to fall asleep, or you might end up waking up all throughout the night. Make sure you have a cut off point for your caffeine intake – around 3 or 4 in the afternoon should be the latest you drink a coffee, for example. Don’t forget that caffeine is present in many foods too, like chocolate!

Exercise During The Day

By exercising during the day, you’re giving yourself more chance of falling asleep soundly and staying asleep at night. You can exercise in the evening, but some people report feeling more awake come bedtime when they exercise then. If you exercise in the morning or early afternoon, you should experience other benefits too, such as more energy and less stress!

people-2537324_640image

Use The Right Essential Oils

Essential oils can be a great tool for lifting the spirits, but they can also be a wonderful tool for helping you to drift off naturally and stay asleep. The easiest way to do this is by putting your favorite oils or blends into a diffuser and taking them in that way. You can visit this website to get an idea of the sort of diffusers and products available. If you’d prefer, you can also buy personal aromatherapy devices where you breathe the vapor in through your mouth and then out through your nose.

Get Into A Routine With Your Sleeping Pattern

It’s no wonder you don’t get a quality sleep if you’re not in a good routine with your sleeping pattern. Ideally, you should go to bed at the same time in the morning and get up at the same time in the morning every day, even on weekends. This gives your body a chance to sync up properly.

Make Your Bedroom The Least Stressful Room In The House

Make sure your bedroom is as stress-free as possible. Ensure it’s the right temperature, that it’s free from technology, and that it’s free from clutter so you can associate the room with sleep.

Make Sure Your Bed Is Just Right

Is your bed comfortable enough for you? Does it have just the right amount of support? No two people are the same, so no two beds will be either.

Take An Hour To Wind Down

Make sure you take a good hour before bed to wind down. Don’t watch TV or scroll on your phone during this time. Simply relax, maybe read a little, and let your body get ready for sleep.
