The people who market beauty and cosmetic products will have you believing that you need to invest big money in products that work. When you look on the shelves of beauty aisles you’ll see hundreds of products that claim to be the best for you. These will all come with their own varying price tags – and benefits! The problem is that buying all of these products means that the cost will soon add up, which can put it above budget for some people. Rather than worry about this too much it is worth considering which homemade beauty products you could make use of. These are often items you have already in your kitchen, so they cost next to nothing to take advantage of.

Skin

Everyone wants healthy, glowing skin. It can just be hard to know how to get it. Without a doubt the biggest weapon to help promote healthy skin is water. So many of us are guilty of not drink enough water each day. This will leave your skin feeling dry and looking lifeless. If you can up your water intake to 6-8 glasses each day, you’ll notice a massive difference.

Another thing you can look at is making homemade face masks. Honey is great for our skin, although it can get a little messy. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off. You can also mix this with rolled oats if you want to exfoliate your skin at the same time. Sea salt is also fantastic for using as an exfoliate replacement. Just beware that this can dry out your skin so you’ll need to moisturize too!

If you’ve wondered how to remove sun spots then you might be interested to know that things like lemon juice or raw onion can help. You apply this direct to the skin where the dark skin is. Leave for a few minutes and then rinse off. You should moisturize afterwards and this can be repeated a few times a week.

Hair

Your hair can really benefit from items in your cupboard so make sure you take advantage of this. For example, you can use a whisked (uncooked egg) to condition your hair. Use it like a mask and leave on wet hair for a few minutes before you rinse off. Mayonnaise is also good for this although it is a little messier. When you are rinsing your hair it is also worth giving it a rinse in beer every now and then as this helps to promote shine and give your hair a healthy look.

If you have hair that is particularly damaged then an avocado can help. Mash one of these and mix with an egg. It will create a thick substance which can then be placed on your hair. Leave this on wet hair for at least 30 minutes and wash off. You’ll need to give it a good rinse as otherwise essential oils could be left behind and they’ll make your hair look and feel greasy.

Nails

If you have brittle nails or nails that tend not to grow then you will want to help this. Cubes of gelatin are fantastic for nail growth and can really help to keep your nails looking and feeling nice and healthy. Not only that but it helps to make your nails strong and this encourages them to grow.

Eating well in general will also help your nails, especially a diet that is rich in protein.
